HI and thanks for quick response!
When i plug in to charge i get a single red flash on the further left light, then the battery image appears witht he spinning circle but then it freezes there, the usual green battery filling doesnt occur. When i disconnect the screen is frozen witht eh battery picture on screen.
In download mode i get:
Odin Mode (in red)
Product name :
Custom Binary Download :NO
Current BInary : Samsung Official
System status: Custom
Thanks again

Sorry to say but yes its bricked, and this is happened due to bug in older rom. It's sds (sudden death syndrome)
Another thing your binary counter on download mode is 'no'
And they can't reject earranty claim, you have to convince them. Otherwise you have to pay for it and you will need to change motherboard, which is costly.

Ok thats a shame, pretty poor in my opinion..
Has this affected many others? and was it caused by the OTA update failing or something?
Thanks for the help and i assume that you are certain that i cant fix with software?

Yes there are lots of people affected by this bug just search sds /sudden death in forum. This is purely poor samsung crap and s3 and note2 both devices have same bug (badically faulty emmc chip), you can't fix it with sw once it bricked, latest rom 4.1.2 released in 2013 have fixed for it, but that just can prevent device from getting bricked, who already have bricked have to just replace motherboard.
Sorry and I can feel for it. But you should not put down and let them to know about it to reclaim warranty.
Your downloaf mode information don't suggest you had custom rom, and all the sds victims have same information and got replacement.

really annoying but... im sure in time i will get over it!
thanks for the help and the reply.
just one last question - when the system status says : custom , what exactly does this mean? and what's the difference between that and official. i am asking as i want to make sure im armed with enough information should they decide to get all official with me!
thanks again.

It should official but
I have seen lots cases who never have flashed any custom stuff and having status Modified, so I think they won't Stand up with argument. Yes if your binary download is non zero then it certainly proves you have flashed custom stuff. I have seen more than 20 sds cases on note2 and I really not remember if anyone have status 'official' and I believe this sds issue itself causing status Modified.

So do we have a solution as of date? what can be done or something?

Just upgrade your FW. Fix has been implemented since January, 2013 in Samsung FWs.

I have the same problem

Hardbricked Galaxy W

I know that my current question will be so funny. But is there any chances to revive a hardbricked Galaxy W? I saw some post said that they can revive their bricked phone, but without any detailed information
Unless you can the device is under any of the status below:
1. Still can be on, and bootable to either CWM or Download mode. (flash in stock rom using odin)
2. Power port failure, unable to charge battery at all phone cannot be on due to battery being empty completely. (send to ssc if warranty still present or use external charger like multi pin supporters).
3. Battery issue, battery is dead. (get a new battery).
Or else, if warranty is present, send to ssc, in all odds they should not detect a rooted phone because all available interfaces are hidden.
Or else, send to local phone repair shop or ssc if they provide phone repairs and see if the price to repair it is worth it and try fixing it.
(in my country, likely the price is insane )
Lastly, to the trash it goes.
Click thanks if suggestion or solution is found useful

[Q] NEED SOS/HELP with N7100 SDS and FREEZE ISSUE

Model: GT-N7100
Baseband: N7100XXDLK7
Build: JZo54K.N7100XXDLK7
eMMC Chip:
Type: VTU00M
Date:08/2012
FwRev:0xf1
So I bought this phone back in Oct2012 and from last month I am start having this so called "Sudden Death" "Freeze" issue so check with EMMC app and yup the result is Insane Chip. Now from last 3 days I have tried all the kernels including(persius and XDLL7) and bunch of other recoveries and ROMS and nothing is fixing this problem. Now this is "Made in UK" version and I am living in USA so Samsung Mobile USA has declined to honor the warranty so Samsung UK has suggested to me to contact Samsung USA. Now I have spend $700 for this so called flag shipped device and all I have got is brick for this price. As this point I am so mad at Samsung that I have decided to go "DARKSIDE with APPLE or WP8 NOKIA" as they honor warranty worldwide does not matter where it manufactured . One thing I dont understand though it was perfectly fine for first 4 months without having any problem working like a charm without any root or custom rom and now suddenly its start behaving so crazy that almost unable to use. If any one can suggest me the solution so I dont have to waste my $700. Thanks so much for all your support and efforts in advance my fellow XDA members
No its not relate to sds.
Do a mega wipe and then flash the latest stock rom.

Thanks . I am trying mega wipe now
If you're checking with the app eMMC BrickBug, it will show that you have an insane chip regardless of whether it has been fixed or not. This is because the hardware inside your system cannot be changed.
However, if you stay on a recent version of any kernel/recovery, you should be fine. Just don't flash any ROM/kernel older than Jan 2013/LL7, and the bug won't affect you. eMMC checks hardware, not software, but the bug has been fixed in the SOFTWARE.

If your software is WORKING, and you UPDATED IT BEYOND LL7,then it isn't affected by the bug so long as you keep it that way.

[Q] Galaxy Note II N7100 Bricked, Cannot enter download mode, USB JIG not helping

I used heimdall to flash stock rom (extracted the varios bin and img files from N7100XXDMB2_N7100OXEDMC2_SER), and missed out sboot and recovery. Once it finished, I tried restarting the phone -> and it wouldn't do anything. Now I cant enter the download mode.
I tried a home-made USB JIG (300k ohms b/w pin 4 (the left out pin) and pin 5 (ground)), and it wouldn't kick the download mode either (does nothing).
I am seriously stuck and have no clue on what to do. If it helps, when I try to boot (with any combination of keys), the indicator (left) blinks red once.
Begging for help right now... Please tell me what to do. I love my phone, and I have a decent understanding of Computers/Electronics - so it's okay if you go all technical
More Info:
Extra Info: Verified that the USB JIG is doing the same thing, i.e after 3 seconds or so, the indicator blinks red... (and so on after every 5 seconds in a loop thereafter).
Good chance of SDS
You have messed up bootloader so won't get download mode
But if you have heimdall and some techy here is guide to flash bootloader blindly, if you succeed to flash it, you will get download mode and subsequently use odin to flash stock rom

You have to attach the wires directly to the nand or internal memory chip or whatever it is(could be memory controller if there is any). Then you have to connect it to a box? I don't know much about it. You can check on the internet. You have to flash sboot.bin I guess

Best answer if samsung guys ask you, tell them it was happened when I got OTA and after getting update device never started, there are cases reported bootloader can't update while on ota and device fail to boot further.
Just don't show them you are technically sound, and behave like noob, they will install it with jtag.

Note 2 won't boot or start recovery mode

Hey,
I'll try to be short and descriptive. I'm pretty familiar with Android ecosystem, but just want to clear things up.
I've just purchased a refurbished Note 2 (I already knew it couldn't boot properly). I can't boot it into Recovery, it goes to "Galaxy note 2" and stays there. I tried it 3-4 times but without success.
But I can boot it into download mode and it stays:
Product name:
Custom binary download: No
Current binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
I'm currently reading other similar treads (where users can boot only to download mode, and it doesn't show anything under product name) and as I can read, it's a SDS, the Sudden Death Syndrome. Is this correct? Should I try using Odin and use the stock PDA file or?
Thank you!
Try flashing with Odin, if it end with PIT mapping error, it's SDS and send to service station.

Do I need any sort of paper when giving the phone to the Samsung Service station or I can just give them the phone and explain the problem?
Also is there a specific region I should look for?

Just a query doctor.
If it is SDS, would the Service station repair for free of cost?
It's you have warranty, they will.

Nearly half the price of device.

Don't waste time, nothing will work in SDS.
You can understand sds is just failed hardware, no software can do magic isn't?
Jtag works if you have messed up bootloader and device doesn't get boot/download mode.

When you open up ODIN, make sure you "Run as Administrator" and the Sammy usb drivers are installed, above PDA, theres a box PIT.. click the box and browse to the PIT file on your PC and select it.. it appears in the box next to PIT button, then put a tick in the box Re-Partition, put the ROM in PDA then click Start and off you go.
So far as I know, you only use ODiN for stock roms, plus,. Im pretty sure Stock Roms are All in one PDA file now.
Anyway, hope that helps
Good Luck

By the way, which ROM you were using before this has happened?
As you do not have Custom Binary counter set, I hope you can claim the warranty. So just go ahead in claiming warranty,

The phones with SDS issue will have blank in Product code field as well as the Binary status will be custom.. You shouldn't have any problem in claiming warranty if you have it's bill/invoice/warranty card...
By the way, din't you check the phone before buying? You said that it was like that while buying.. You should have returned it to the previous owner itself.. Incase you do not get warranty, this will cost you huge money to repair as the motherboard replacement is the only solution... Instead of that, its better you put some more money and buy new.

First off all that blank in product code problem i had it, and i buy the phone on the web in second hand, i try to reach the guy who sell me the phone and as it was from expect he didnt had the bill/invoice/warranty card, correct me if im wrong or being dumb, but if they released the phone only in 2012, September, even i buy it on the first day, didnĀ“t past 2 years yet,
i took the phone to they, and they make a couple of questions like if i rooted the phone, i asked them what is rooting (ahahha), and they said, that will give it a see and then call me,
About the possibility of buy a new one, that only cost me 130 pounds, about 154 euros, so it was a nice deal, if they charge me more that 50 euros, wich i think they will i will buy a Jtag Riff box and repair emmc myself, or buy the chip here and solder him myself at home, but if that happens i will spread everywhere that samsung sucks and show my indignation and anger about them.
