I was messing about with my phone and to cut a long story short I need my original boot image. When I try to go back to my backup, It doesn't seem to help.
I was on stock Orange 4.1.1 I think? Whatever the latest was.
Does anyone know where I can get the boot.img please? I can do the rest myself I think
So you did a nandroid backup ? You mount the sdcard as a usb diskdrive and look in the backup folder. The boot.img is in there
So I'm in recovery - mounts and storage. I click on mount USB storage and it says unable to open ums lunfile?
Update the recovery to this one and that problem is gone

Cheers, I sorted it. Thanks!

Hi, when i use Rom manager to make a back up, it automatically boots into recovery and and attempts to back up and fails.
It says
Waiting for sd card to mount (20s)
E:Cant mount /devblock/mmcblk0 (or/dev/block/mmcblk01)
(no such file or directory)
Waiting for sd card to mout (19s)
SD Card Mounted....(and then it creates an error log file)
I used to be able to back up like this, but for some reason it does not work.
I currently back up manually, booting into recovery and doing it that way.
Any Ideas??
Andy
Please do not use Rom Manager!!!
For Nandroid Backup / Restore use your recovery, for backups of apps and system use Titanium Backup. They are better and more matured.
Ok thanks for the advice,
Is there a way then to modify the file name so i know what ROM version etc i have backed up?

Yes. Go to Rom Manger -> manage and restore backups -> long press the backup that u want to rename -> rename
Ok thanks. Knew I could do it this way but wondered if could some how do it in a certain recovery or something.

Check the 4ext recovery in my signature. It automatically names your backup using the name of the ROM and the time the backup was created.
This is another one of those "noob help pls!!!1" threads, and I am incredibly sorry for making that dreadful pile bigger.
That said, allow me to explain my situation:
Flashed from ARHD 2.0 to ARHD 3.0 without reverting to stock rom for OTA update. My HTC ONE X is stuck at boot screen (I did flash boot.img via flashboot).
I'm trying to restore one of the nandroid backups, but I've renamed the backup folder to something like, "ARHD 2.0 w LC_MOD2.75". I read that apparently the folder can't have spaces in it, or it will fail the md5 check.
Unfortunately, I can't find a means to rename the folder from the bootloader screen or Clockworkmod Recovery. SO: Is it possible access the internal storage without actually booting the device?
I'm doing this because I want to (hopefully) keep my data intact as well.
Not at the moment I don't think we can mount USB storage via recovery as of yet. Try flashing your original RUU from the dev section that may help.
From CWM thread:
Code:
Cant mount USB in recovery
No charging while in recovery
Cant flash from Rom Manager
Will doing that format the Virtual SD card as well?
UPDATE: SDCARD DATA INTACT.
I'm using a Singaporean HTC ONE X, in case anyone is wondering: Asia_WWE RUU
UBER THANKS nikzDHD!
Hey guys, really hoping someone can help me here - my phone can't seem to boot into any of my nandroid backups - it just gets stuck in a boot loop.
That's only a fraction of the problem, the way I want to fix this is by installing a ROM from fresh, but that obviously requires me to be able to transfer the ROM to the phone - I can't seem to do that from the bootloader. And remember, I can't actually get into the phone OS to do it from there
Huge problem, basically... is there any way for me to transfer files to the phone from bootloader or recovery mode?
Really hoping someone here can help - thanks for everything.

Ya surely can help
U Need to boot into ur custom recovery.
There will be a option called mounts and storage.
Select Mound SD card(While phone is connected to PC)
And mount the ROM
But why did your backup fail ?
Did a factory reset and wiped all you could in recovery ?
Flashed the boot.img from the nandroid backup ?
You saved my A...S ~!

Ok, so for a few months I had been running a rom on my phone (AOKP, I think.) Then the other day it died on me, totally. SD Card, CWM backups, the whole lot. Totally gone.
Anyway, did a bit of raking around and managed to get it restored to stock using the relevant RUU file. Then, instead of learning from my lesson and using backups and so on, I proceeded to install the latest OTA. You can probably see where this is going. So, got the rom installing again when the phone decided to crash again. Now sitting with a phone that will load into fastboot, but which goves me no access to the filesystem. Cant do another RUU update as there is no RUU available that i can see for what I have, which is:-
version-main: 2.17.161.4
and
VODAP001
Had a look at a few other threads but I couldnt see any that was relevant. Any help would be much appreciated.
download this nandroid backup
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5rart6rb2jsi5yx/Vodafone UK 2.17 VODAP001 2012-12-10.16.53.18.zip
unzip it looking like this on the phone sdcard
clockworkmod\backup\*time and date folder*\*the backup files*
time and date folder should be inside the zip (or whatever its packed with)
you can enter the bootloader, from there to the recovery ? mount inside the recovery the sdcard as a mass storage device and copy over the backup
copy the boot.img file from the backup to your fastboot folder and flash it. then perform a full wipe inside the recovery (except sdcard) and restore the nandroid backup
then you flash back this recovery
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wbav46spkbznovp/stock recovery 2.17.img
and you can start updating the phone to JB again. use the manually update in settings - about - softwareupdates
Excellent, thanks.
The other problem I have is since this happens, explorer no longer picks up the phone when I connect it and I have no idea why.
You mean when you mount it inside the recovery ?
I've obviously gotten myself so wound up trying to sort this I'm missing something obvious.
No, when I plug the phone in via USB it only detects it as a removable drive, but then doesn't open, instead prompts me to insert a disk into the removable drive. Must be a problem with the internal SD card as I've installed the HTC syns programme so I'm guessing the drivers should be up to date.
Ok, so I can still access CWM via the recovery, Ive mounted all the drives I can see via the mount options in there. Now I get two drives in explorer, E: and F:, neither of which I can access.
Don't mount all the drives, only
Mounts & storage - mount as mass storage (the most bottom one)
Then it should pop up. Don't touch any other option
---------- Post added at 10:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:43 PM ----------
And deinstall the sync manager and leave the drivers installed
Sorry for wasting your time, starting to feel i should have left well alone.
De-selecting everything other than the above. Now I get "failed to open usb master mode" on the phone and nothing on the pc..
Also, mentally enough, although nothing shows up in explorer now, its in devices and printer as an optical drive..
Hmm reflash the custom recovery
http://db.tt/Krlm4dPs
When I go to mount the usb storage i click it, the only options i get are unmount and go back.
Yes and if you see that the drive should come up on the pc ... if you go back or tap unmount it closes/unmounts the sdcard as a mass storage device
Ok, so got the files in a row. Did the boot flash, restored the nandroid but when i go to flash the restore doing fastboot flasf flash restore recovery.img i get:- FAILED (remote not allowed). Any ideas?
Scratch that. Rebooted an all fine. OTA installed fine as well.
Thank you so much for your help.
Nice

Hi there,
I was running a RR rom and got a msg about an update for my ROM. So i thought i would try it out. I made a full nandroid back up and after that updated my ROM. After the update my homebutton didnt work anymore. So i thought, lets just restore my back up again. I did a fully factory wipe, i flashed TWRP again on my OP3 because for some reason after the factory wipe i got the Cynogen recovery mode. So i put back TWRP, put my back up on my phone from my laptop, but when i went to "restore" nothing was there. I tried to move my back up from the "sdcard" directory to the root directory but i got an error which didnt specify what the problem was.
Can any1 help me restore my OP3 again?
so when u went to TWRP -> Restore, there was not backup found to restore? but when u check ur phone through file manager its there?

Thats correct. When i go in the file manager, i see the backup in the sdcard directory along side the TWRP directory. I tried to move it with the file manager, but it gave me an error which was not specefied.

ok now i extracted all the files from the tar files, but what is the next step? I tried putting them on my OP3, but that does nothing. My OP3 still doesnt see a back up.
Another thing is something i saw is that in TWRP, when i shut down my OP3, TWRP says that there is no OS installed. Is that normal?
No that is not normal, the extraction is there so u can reinstall things, I will have to take a look at it again, do u know what all partitions u had backed up and did u move the backup location?
Lately backup in twrp recovery sucks.
Yesterday, i want to test another rom. So i wipe cache/dalvik & backup in twrp. I select all except rom img (3gb) and cache (zero). Try the new rom. Does not work for me. So wipe all except sd card & restore my backup.
Error..
I use only twrp 3.0.4.1, so it can not be a conflict in different twrp's versions. It's not the first time....
If you wipe youre phone, including sd card, go to recovery, backup and choose the smallest size file to backup. Recovery creates youre backup folder in TWRP directory. After that you can erase the that backup.
I flashed back oxygen (OMG I forgot how ugly oxygen was) last version, so I got a working phone again but ofc without all my media. I just find it weird that I make a full backup (I had everything checked) and I can't do anything with it.
I did full factory reset, so maybe that's the reason my OS got deleted aswell. What partition has the OS installed?
When I reboot my OP3, I get a msg saying that dm-verity has not started in enforcingmode and may not work properly. What does that mean?
