[Q] Can't flash smelkus... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am rooted s-on, have been flashing roms for about a year. I have downloaded a couple of recoveries renamed them pc36img, but when i boot into recovery and try it use them it parses them. Is this because of s-on?

Yes. Download,Flash Image GUI,by Joey Krim from Google play. Then download the image file for the recovery you want and flash it that way.

No the file will have a "name_PG36IMG.zip" just delete the name part and put the pg36img.zip on the base of the SD card and go into boat loader and let it unload...

Assuming you're rooted, download the zip and flash from recovery. After wiping all appropriate caches.

are you checking md5 for the entire .zip package or are you opening up the zip. Do not open them. You flash .zip's in recovery. After you download move to your phone. Boot to recovery and flash it

If you can still use your USB port, I would recommend the link that Petrovski80 posted.
If you cannot use your USB port, then it is a bit trickier. You will have to:
1) Ensure you have root and a custom recovery;
2) Lock your bootloader using BootUnlocker
3) Flash the stock kernel in recovery
4) Flash the stock ROM (i.e, the /system folder) in recovery
5) Flash the stock recovery in recovery.
EDIT: I posted how to do this somewhere, but I can't remember where it is now. A quick search should find it.

What the steps in your case should be, by my knowledge:
- Try extracting the .tar containing the actual img files by using an app like ZArchiver on your /sdcard
- Lock the bootloader using Bootunlocker app
- Reboot into recovery
- Flash appropriate img files
- Reboot into Android OS at least once so android will overwrite your custom recovery with stock
Disclaimer: none of this is tested, just theory.
If i can unzip it i think mobile odin can flash it i guess

This is the Sprint section correct? Sprint phones are US variants right? My sig says I support the S3 and Galaxy Nexus right? Your signature says SPH-L710 right? Too many rights for it to be wrong.
If you sprint phone is not one of the new ones with the issue mounting storage then yes this will work for you. This updates your bootloader, fimware/modem to the latest md4 updates.

You downloaded that file right? When you boot into recovery click on flash zip from internal storage that's where it should be. Then look in the download folder.
When you download files you should be able to choose the download path, so that you know exactly where it's going.
I download everything to my external storage (sd card) then using root explorer I move it to my file system which I set up, roms, kernels, apps, mods, so on....

That's because you have flashed a 4.2 rom and your internal storage has moved to a different location. It's there you just need to find the correct path.
