I enjoy Android 4.2 tones better than TouchWiz tones. I converted the audio for alarms, ringtones, and notifications into mp3 format in case anyone doesn't have root or has difficulty listening to them. They are originally (.ogg) format. Once you download, put them in a folder labeled "audio" on your SDcard (Internal or External) whichever you prefer. Afterwards, they should appear whenever you're trying to make an alarm, ringtone, or notification sound selection. Reboot if they don't appear.
The files are on this link:
http://www.4shared.com/folder/X_mq1OWc/Android_4.html
Enjoy.
Cool. Thanks

Hey scampos, can you upload these files to a host that doesn't require a premium account to download them? I'd love to get these audio files on my S3 but don't want to pay to download (unless I'm completely missing something....)
Thanks!

I was wondering if somebody could create a guide to create ringtones that won't cause my phone to FC. It does not FC with some of the system Ringtones but it does FC on some of the larger files.

You can put any mp3 file on your phone's sd card and click on it and choose use as ringtone. Or download any one of a number of apps to make ringtones like Ringdroid.
Do you BONSAI?

Yes I do? I am running Bonsai 4.1.0.B9. But anyways what ringtone maker are you using when I try to create a ringtone I get FC. I am using Ringdroid.
The soluation to my problem convert your mp3 file to ogg files.
What I did is I converted mp3 into ogg files. They are the sound files that are native to android. Ogg file work a lot better than mp3 files. I download a free program from cnet called FreeMp3WmaOggConverter to covert my mp3 to ogg files. Now my phone does not FC anymore now I have to find a program to edit my ogg files.
I've used sharetones on the market. U can make your own ringtones

Mp3 for some reason don't play well with my cell phone. Either my phone sometimes locks up or it just does not play at all. I am using the midnight rom 5.2 and mp3 are very inconstistant with my Samsung Epic. Ogg files on the other hand work 100% of the time it does not matter weather they are long or short they flat out just work.
It is fun funny that am the only person who is having issues with mp3 files as ring tones.

Actually, I've been having issues lately. On the ringtone selection screen, the phone would seem to lock up and then FC on me when I would hit "OK"
I'm going to try to convert my mp3 ringtones and notification tones to .ogg and see if that helps. I'm using SUPER http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
Just finished converting to .ogg and tested it out.
So far so good!
@jamice4u, thanks for the suggestion!
I have had this issue before. I was running SRF 1.1.0 at the time. To fix it, I backed up my entire SD card, formatted it from my PC, then very selectively put files back on the SD card.
Resolved my FC'ing that happened when I selected a ringtone, set an mp3 file as an alarm, playing with RingDroid and anything to do with mp3's other than using the stock music player.
Fixed my FC'ing

Yeah, I thought it might've been something corrupt on the SD card. I pulled it, backed it up, then formatted it and re-copied everything to it, just as I had it laid out before. Still had the same issue. Converting the files over to .ogg seems to have done the trick.
SGS3 Media Files
Included Files:
-Alarms
-Ringtones
-Notifications
-UI Sounds
If you know how tou use then:
-Must work with any phone...
-Must work with any froyo-GB-ICS...
-Must work with any ROM (Stock-Custom-CM7-CM9-MIUI-AOKP...)
Using Files: First extract ogg files from downloaded rar file...
Copying the ringtones into the SD card folder may enables the files to show up in the ringtones selection. If your phone can not play ogg convert them to mp3 with using any 3. party program...
For Samsung Phones: Coppy ogg files into the correct SYSTEM/MEDIA/AUDIO folders with any root explorer then RE-BOOT. And make sure set permission to rw-r-r by root explorer.
Converting ogg to mp3:Get foobar and Lame encoder - then drag the files into the foobar window and then right click on the files (select all), convert (to mp3), and walk through the prompts (you need to download LAME too - try freecodecs.com)

For the ringtones just put it in the /System/Media/Audio folder of ringtones.
I replaced the UI sounds and rebooted but I get that paper ripping sound when clicking on things (old android sound) and I was hoping I was going to get that water ripple sound like the S III...
Update: I fixed it. It seems the nice bubble sound was a notification sound and not a UI sound. I found that weird because in the SGS III reviews you would hear a bubble sound with every press on the screen (those are usually the Effect_Tick.ogg) which are UI sounds. Anyways, I just renamed the bubble notification sound as Effec_Tick and override it in the UI sounds using Root Explorer. Now I have my bubble sound.
link isn't working.
The link is working...and thanks...will try and install it on my Play... Was always a Galaxy Fan, cannot wait for S3...in my hands...

More ringtones?! w00t!
so I went ahead and put the folders alarms, notifications and ringtones under the directory sdcard/media/audio and everthing is fine. I have all the notification sounds as well as alarm sounds and ringtones...
now for the UI files I went ahead and used root explorer and went to system/media/audio and copied my original ui folder and then replaced it with the new one...I have the unlock sound and lock sound working fine as well as the camera snapshot sound and a few others...i think. the touch sounds are the same and i noticed that there are files named keyPressspacebar, poweron and tw_volume_control. I do not hear these sounds when i perform the action on my phone...any reason why? other than that I cant complain and thanks for sharing!

Original permissions
Hey, guys. What I did was went into the /system/media/audio and I moved the 4 folders (alarm, notification, ringtones, and ui) onto my Sd card just incase something bad happened. And then I moved the new versions. I set the audio folders permission to rw- r-- r--. and I left the 4 folders permissions alone. Was I supposed to change each folders permission? And if any one knows, what are the original permissions for the folders, thanks, because now, my ringtones are not working. Thanks

Oye Boriqua!how to instali the different media pack tha my device can recognize?
thank you
Is the Galaxy Nexus .ogg files compatible with ringtones etc.?
Or do i need to convert it to mp3?
Why do i have to copy the ringtones, alarms etc.. into the "SYSTEM" folder on Samsung phones?
On the sdcard there is a folder called media and audio.
Should work on this folder too i think?!
Or is the Galaxy Nexus not "Samsung" like?
thanks!
Do you know how to extract mp3 files out of youtube videos?
the only thing I found to make ringtones was this here, but it must work when you do it first as a exe file. good luck!
Thanks for sharing.
What is the system default ringtone of SGS3 (like SGS2 had "Mirage of you")?
ok so today i was playing with my phone and you know im a type a person who like to put lots of ringtones from other phones into mine so all this time i been pushing all the audio files from different roms into my phone(adb push .../system/media/audio/ringtones ).. DONT NEEED TO DO THIS NOMORE SINCE OUR PHONE HAS AN EASY WAY TO PUT WHATEVER AUDIO FILES NOW INTO THE INTERNAL SDCARD..
SO IF YOU WANT RINTONES ON YOUR PHONE DO THE FOLLOWING!!!
1.CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO PC (ROOT IS NOT NEEDED!!! NOR CUSTOM ROM OR KERNEL)
2. GO TO YOUR INTERNAL SD AND YOU ARE GOING TO SEE 2 FOLDERS INSIDE 1 FOLDER NAMED "RINGTONES AND THE OTHER ONE NOTIFICATIONS", ) JUST DROP WHATEVER FILES YOU WANT IN THOSE FOLDERS ANY AUDIO FILES WILL SHOW ON YOUR RINGTONES AND NOTIFICATIONS NOW!! WOW HOW NICE IS THAT..
I've been able to do this since owning a G1. Files can also go in a folder called 'media' (which still works up to this day on the S3) with subfolders titled 'ringtones' 'notifications' 'alarms' and 'ui'.

Is it possible to customize the phone app in Task650? I'd like the stock phone app from 4.1.1 where the display is
larger and the name of the caller is also large.
Is this possible?? Otherwise, I like the Task650 ROM (finally loaded).

I am not actually responding to this question but to the question you posted about using an mp3 file as your ringtone. I have one that I created years ago with an app called Ringroid and it let me capture part of an mp3 and set it as a ringtone. After every complete wipe, I drag that file from my external sd to my internal sd card and I can select it as my ringtone (it does not have the same extension, nor does it appear on the list as the other ringtones). I can, however, using ES file explorer select it as my ringtone (it lists all of my music, including the clip I use as my ringtone).
Thanks. I did that and it worked. Now on to the dialer issue.
Suggestions?

Stock 4.1.1 dialer will be touchwiz, which won't work on aokp roms, at least without some heavy framework modding. Even then I'm not sure it's possible. Best to look at dialer alternatives in the play store if you don't like the one in Task's rom.
Thank you. I've taken a look and nothing really jumps out.

Forgive me if i dont understand right but you say the stock ringtones and notifications are there in system/media? If not what is there? Do you have a noise happening when notification or call comes in? If so just change them by either using music player and selcting use as ringtone, etc or just add your own files with sounds or music to the same place in system/media where the stock ones are. Make sure they are the right file type. Then you might see the option under settings tab. If not then save stock sounds to a folder on your sd card and the ones left that you just put there should now be your new sounds. Let me know if this worked please. Good luck

How many ogg files are showing under system/media/? Just one? If so adding another may give you an option in settings. If not try nova launcher and go to settings again and options may show. If not look for app that converts files to other kinds of files and the oggs might be able to be turned to another format that makes it show up in music player. If not try flashing newer nightly update and see if it fixes itself in the next build. Let me know
