[Q] Why do I have duplicate files in internal storage? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I plugged my gs3 into my PC and using Windows Explorer and noticed every single folder is shown twice. It doesn't seem to be the case if I look at it on the phone with es file manager. I'd appreciate anyone's insight here. Thanks

OK. I have an idea of what's going on,but no idea how to solve it. I flashed liquid smooth jb 2.1. When I went to restore my apps with romtoolbox, there was no back up. This led me to es file explorer and noticed a folder "0". My entire internal storage is in this folder now. I found this http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-7-tablet/225362-doubles-everything.html which is my exact problem and it also includes pictures of what I mean. I read something about emulated...which means nothing to me. I'm screwed. Please help.

[Q] USB connection issue/Files and Folders Invisible

Hi everyone, I'm having a real problem when connecting my LTE GNexus to the computer. I wanted to copy the TitaniumBackup folder to my desktop then replace it with the one I copied over from my old Droid Incredible, but when I look at the TitaniumBackup folder on the internal storage of my Nexus, it shows as empty, containing zero files. This is impossible, as I've done a backup already and even checked with ES File Explorer that all of the backup files ARE in fact present within the folder. However, the folder appears as empty on my PC and when I copy it, only copies an empty folder.
Furthermore, I then deleted the ENTIRE TitaniumBackup folder via ES, and the computer then showed the folder was gone (so it it's not like it's not reacting to changes made). I then redid the backup, which recreated and populated a new TitaniumBackup folder, but when I plugged it back in to my PC, the new folder didn't even SHOW UP. So now I have an entire folder that for some reason is completely invisible to the PC.
I don't know if this an issue caused by the Nexus or ICS specifically, the MTP protocol it uses to connect (instead of USB mass storage), or maybe even Titanium Backup. All other folders appear to be visible and the files inside are present (to my knowledge). What in the world is going on?!
PS: Please don't just give me a workaround for the current situation like "just upload it to Dropbox". I need to know how to fix this bigger issue for future use. Though if someone could recommend to me a way to upload whole folders to the cloud somewhere (Dropbox, Gmail, anything that allows me to pull it down via a PC) that would obviously be appreciated, as every app seems to only want to upload individual files, even the new DB. THANK YOU!
Hi,
I just had the same issue with the TitaniumBackup folder not showing up in windows explorer after the first backup.
Restart of the phone helped!
Cheers
Simon
its MTP, this has been bugging me too, but for now i got a workaround (i know...)
get SDrescan, its free. it will force your phones media storage to rescan your files. once you do, you'll see your files appear in the explorer. rebooting your phone also triggers this
Thanks everyone! Man, MTP sucks...

SDRescan did not work for me. Sits there forever saying "preparing" (I did let it sit for 30 min).
So, is there any solution for that?
Missing many files/folders on MTP.
This is really ****ting me up the [email protected] wall. I've trie everything, even sdrescan does **** all. Why does this issue exist and why the **** has't it been fixed
Using wifi, I've worked around it by using some of the features in AirDroid (sets up a web server on your GNex and you can login via a web interface on your PC). File Expert can also talk to windows shares on the same wifi network, I've used this to move around some large files as well.
I'm also having this issue, I've already tried fix permissions in recovery, did a symlink (not sure if I did it correct though) and now I'm trying sdrescan.
I'm thinking of going back to cyanogenmod backing up my entire sdcard to pc flash jelly bean and put back every file...
Cause pictures I've taken with Jelly bean are showing up in the gallery and via usb, so i'm guessing copying everything back to it will do the trick.
Most annoying thing is I can flash a new rom whenever and where ever I want and be able to fix my issues, but this sdcard thing is way out of my league...
I find a solution here :

Hope it fixed the problem, I had exactly the same one
Easy workaround : in the app X-plore file manager, long-press on your TitaniumBackup folder, choose "Create Zip", then Ok (doesnt matter where you put the zip, you will cancel/delete it soon)
VoilĂ ! My files appeared instantly in Windows as soon as X-Plore started creating the zip file. So, cancel that dialog, and enjoy your titanium backup files.

Restart phone as previously stated. Worked for me too. :good:
Reboot didn't worked for me.
I tried through ES File Explorer to copy the Titanium folder in my computer via LAN.When it started copying files, then the folder magically showed its content. Then transferred via MTP as it's a lot faster than 802.11g.
Hope someone finds it helpful.

Cant find files after Jelly Bean flash

Hey guys,
I was hoping for some advice. I installed Jelly Bean and I cant find my music files or my pics. Now if I run root explorer I can find them in the SD card menu but if I just open gallery or music they will not be there.
Now I wanted to move them so I can actually access them and have tried two ways. Using root explorer and copy and pasting the folder. That did not work. And then I was going to just move the files around by connecting my phone to my computer. When I do this I cant even access my SD card for some reason. And yes USB debugging is on and checked.
So how do I get these files to where I need them? Any help would be amazing. Thank you in advance guys.
This is for development only . But files should be in there unless you partitioned the SD card. Maybe try using a different cord or plugging in a different USB. Happens to me a couple of times so I have to locate file in my computer.

Install and run SDRescan from the market.
Go to the folder where they are stored and look for ".nomedia" file and delete it from the folder and then the galley and music app should find them

None of these options worked....and no its not my cord because I can access files just not the ones I need.

Well there is at least someone else with my issue. Now can anyone tell us how to fix?
The problem I am having is my photos do not appear after I take them, but if I go and sort out display options in the gallery by date they appear. All of my music is there and no problems. I didn't have this issue when I first went to jb. BTW I have a gsm nexus

I guess nobody has a answer
Hi,
Do you see your specific files in ICS?
Have you tried Menu > Refresh?
Have you tried clearing Gallery data?
Have you tried fixing permissions in recovery?
Think out of the box

Could also be ROM related. Have you tried a different Jelly Bean ROM?
Here comes probably a solution
Guys, for those having issues with Media process, where Pictures & Musics don't show up, here's the solution that worked for me:
I got it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21746289&postcount=2 (thanks Chrono_Tata).
Based on what Chrono_Tata wrote, I decided to create a ".nomedia" file in my main personal directory, where contains pictures, musics, personal files and so on.
(For those not familiar with Linux, the ". (dot)" in the beginning of the filename is very important! It means that it's a hidden file. You can create it through ES File Explorer)
For testing purposes, I copied some musics / pics to directories out of that my structure.
Then, stopped and cleaned data for: Gallery, Google Music and Media . Afterwards, restarted phone.
Bingo. It did work, and I could see the pics/musics outside my main directory (although it takes a while to re-scan everything, so wait! Gallery and Music will show nothing until scan is complete).
Well, after I realized it did work, I continued in the following way:
1) Delete the previous ".nomedia" file that I created
2) Create a new one under some sub-directory.
3) Repeat process for re-scan
I did it until I found which directory had an issue (btw, my pictures directory).
I think it might be related to thumbs.db file created by Win, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I still have to check carefully my structure to find the issue.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Adriano.

Storage is... not in a 0 folder?

So after re-rooting after a month of being on stock TW I expected all my files to move to an emulated/0 folder or something along those lines. However, when I got into it using ES File Explorer it was empty. Looked around in other folders and can not find them still. Idc if they are lost, I care that about 8GB of my onboard storage is un locatable and I have like 2 gbs left I really don't know where they could have gone.
So I tried a different root explorer thinking that ES wasn't showing them, found them using Root Explorer by JRummy Apps. However, when I look inside them they are all empty and cannot be moved. I want to try to save them incase anything may actually be in there (photos, music etc.)
Any insight would be appreciated.
Edit: Phoneboot got stuck in bootloop, going to Odin back to stock.
As for the files, they are not deleted, they just aren't shown by default. To find them, go to /mtn/shell/emulated. That should be your stock storage and then you can move, delete, or whatever you want.

Can no longer see files in my internal memory!

I can no longer see files in my internal memory!
They were present when I connected my phone to laptop and copied some files.
There was an empty folder named /storage/emulated/0 inside the original /storage/emulated/0 directory.
As it was empty, I tried deleting it but it was taking a long time so I cancelled the process.
After I disconnected my device, while on ES File Explorer, I discovered that majority of my files weren't showing up. I selected all the files which are displayed and saw their size, a mere 20MB, and the Homepage on ES File Explorer shows usage to be 2.35GB/12.80GB.
Is it some sort of virus that created a seemingly empty folder inside the actual directory? And what about the files that were showing up previously alongside the folder?
I believe that I may have deleted my files when I tried deleting that folder. And why would that folder seem to be empty? Please help me out here!
Not a solution but might help
Well, almost same thing happened to me a few days ago. I too saw that empty folder and couldn't find the files I needed. I too deleted that folder. Except I deleted it completely. After disconnecting I realized that my phone was empty. There was nothing in the internal storage. Finally I realized that it's actually a virtual folder that won't show any files in your pc but that exactly where all your files are. So, NEVER EVER delete that folder.
Never delete dat folder
Android supports multiple user accounts and store their files
Storage/emulated/0
Storage/emulated/1
Etc
Sometimes that folder shows up when u connect to pc, dont know its a bug or not.

I've learnt my lesson.
Anyway, I was able to recover my images by cloning the userdata partition and mounting it on my laptop and running Recuva on it.
Thanks for you responses.

Internal Storage empty?

I have a VS985 and I flashed the 47A update earlier today. Everything went pretty smoothly, until I tried to look for something I downloaded. I couldn't find the download folder. In fact, just trying to look at internal storage, it would tell me that the folder was empty!
Everything shows up fine in Windows. All of it. But ES file explorer and the gallery app and most other things don't see data there, and so they tell me it doesn't exist... (interestingly, the built in file explorer sees it fine.)
Why is this happening? And what can I do to fix it? All of the data is right there, it writes it without issue, the phone just won't see it! (Even after it immediately writes. Like a download will just disappear. It's still there, but it's not there...)

Did you set the storage permissions to those apps in order to read the storages?
