Yeah it seams to be way better then before. Also have you tried the new experiment Google has? Here is a link for it.
http://chrome.com/supersyncsports/
You interact with chrome on your desktop with chrome for your phone to play a fun little mini game. Any you can play with friends whore can see your computer screen. I was pretty impressed with it.

Just tried it and it feels a bit laggy and not as quick as stock version. Opening a page I get a slight out of focus just before page loads. Revert back and all is good.

Agreed. Performance seems worse to me and the rendering engine seems broken. Everything is blurry as hell. Made my 720x1280 screen look like 480x800. Reverted back to the previous version of Chrome.

Stock is the way to go. Chrome eats battery

Pretty much my experience - scrolling isn't as smooth as on the AOSP browser, and the text is blurry. They should just call the old stock browser Chrome and be done with it.

Horribly blurry now. reverted back and thinking of giving Dolphin a try

Syncing between all devices and my desktop plus tab swiping is too good to leave.
However the new version does suck. Where can I get the previous one? What was the version number?

Reverted back to the previous version. Typing in forums was pretty buggy

If the stock browser is Google product, why not eliminate the chrome app and incorporate some of chromes features into the stock browser?

I've had to revert back with titanium backup as well.
Fonts on it was way too blurry. Almost got me blind.

Because it just works, doesn't get upgraded and still syncs your bookmarks. Chrome development on the other hand has multiple personality disorder.

Lol @ doesn't get upgraded being one of your plus points.
It doesn't matter though, use the one you like. I just don't like the old fashioned style of aosp.
Sync bookmarks is one thing sync tabs is another. Can it do tabs? I don't think so but if I'm wrong can you explain. Maybe I will try it again.

[Q] How to get Galaxy Nexus to have a hardware accelerated browser like the GSII?

I switched from a Galaxy S II and the browser on it was super smooth like the iPhone. Now that I have the Galaxy Nexus I'm noticing it's laggy and stuttery at times with both the stock and Chrome browser. I'm on the GSM model and have hardware acceleration checked in the developer settings. I am running the Android Revolution HD 2.1.5 Rom.
It is h/a browsing on the Galaxy Nexus. Use a different ROM and if its not a ROM issue you have a defective unit.
Just bumped into this thread through XDA app, I don't have a GNex but I'm using ICS on my NS4G and I'm pretty sure it is what it is, no way to get around the stutters every now and then. I think the browsers awesome coming from stock gingerbread but just my opinion.
Maybe a future update will optimize the browser more but who knows lol
PS: its not that your phone is defective, its a software issue and if
flashing different ROMS doesn't fix the stutters or lag then it just assures that its how ICS's browser works
The GN is the first android phone that has hardware accelerated browser, aside from the galaxy s1 and s2 custom jobs by samsung. In fairness the GN does show the new tile method, and it is silky smooth because of it on most websites. But yes it does stutter on a few sites. But its worlds better with the new hardware acceleration than prior.
Chrome though was laggy for me so i dont use it.

Yes there is GPU acceleration in stock.
Setting > developer options> Force GPU rendering
There COULD BE some problems with certain apps but I have encountered none. Btw, running stock 4.02 here and there's no lag.
Keep in mind the sheer pixels this phone is pushing. Based on the specific implementation Android 4.0 uses for hardware acceleration across the entire OS (and any 3rd party apps that support it), I am wholly convinced that the phone's slow (relatively speaking) GPU is at fault here. The CPU is plenty fast, but the GPS is a bit of a slouch compared to other SoC's GPUs.
I'm sure a phone with an OMAP 4470, or late this year/early 2013 with OMAP 5xxx (or Krait processors or Tegra 4 "Wayne") would be virtually lag-free because of the huge bump all of those processors have in their GPUs. Just an educated guess, though. Pushing a 720p resolution is hard work, even when lots of the work is offloaded to the GPU.
---------- Post added at 08:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:26 AM ----------
Also, FWIW, I have no lag or issues in my browser (Chrome for Android 4.0+), and my phone is not overclocked (the GPU is, though).
Thanks for your input. If the iPhone 4 is able to scroll smoothly then so should the GN. It's smooth but there shouldn't be any jerkiness for a Google flagship phone.

I have plug-ins set to "on demand".
Try turning off Force GPU rendering, browsing feels smoother to me on stock 4.0.2 with it off.
If both browsers are already hw accelerated, I would imagine turning it off saves a little bit of memory.

Take your iphone open the browser and enter engadget.com and while it loads press your finger on the screen and hold it for about a minute or two... Ideally try to scroll the webpage while it loads. In the meantime do the same on your galaxy nexus and see which 1 will load the webpage faster. Iphone is storing everything in the memory that's why it is so smooth. However, because Iphone has to store this in a memory any other actions that will interrupt this process will make iphone unable to load the page. There was an explanation somewhere on the Internet how hardware acceleration is working on iphone

We have a team rom in testing, with a basic overclocked kernel I built. But I can tell you that we have not dropped any unicorns into the kernel or rom that would boost this kind of performance.

Per App DPI settings without Paranoid Android

Hey, guys! Firefox Beta is currently my browser of choice, but due to the DPI settings of our beloved Nexus 7, the app uses the Phone UI. Just look at it!
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now, let's take a look at it's layout when it sees a proper tablet DPI.
Fabulous! Now let's figure out how we can achieve this...
First of all, we need to install a framework called Xposed. This handy app can modify your ROM without touching an APK or having to flash anything. If your interested, read more about it in its OP. Speaking of the OP, you'll be downloading the APK at the bottom under attachments
You'll find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Open the app and touch the 'Install/Update' button. It should install successfully and request that you reboot your device. Do so now.
Now, we need to grab the app that will allow us to change the DPI settings per app. The app will also allow you to deny permissions to apps, but that's not why we are here.
You'll find the app in the attachment section of the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072081
Install it and then open the previously installed Xposed Installer. Switch over to the Modules tab and checkmark the Xposed App Settings. Reboot.
Almost done!
After you've rebooted, open up the Xposed App Settings app. Scroll down to the app you would like to modify. In this case, we'll be changing Firefox Beta to tablet mode. Select Firefox Beta when you find it and enable it. Once enabled, you'll be greeted with the following screen:
Yours won't look exactly like that, but you'll need to make yours look like that also. Your DPI can be anything between 160 and 177. Once you've applied those, touch the wrench icon on the top right and force stop the app. go back to the app and touch the icon to the left of the |> icon. It'll ask you if you want to kill the application, do it again for good measure.
Success! Touch the |> icon to start the app and it should be laid out in all its tablet glory!
Bonus: You can also get the tablet, dual pane version of the Settings app by setting the resolution to 1000x1600 in Xposed App Settings.
In closing, take a look at some before and after pictures for some apps that don't have tablet lay outs by default.

As you can see, most of the text is squeezed together in an undesirable fashion. I switched it back. I also believe Pulse has a tablet layout, but I'm not sure.
If you know of any more apps that do this, let me know.
Tried and followed instruction,was able to change the UI but i think changing the dpi doest work thanks for sharing

I like it myself but as I don't have any problems with Google Chrome on my phone. I think the biggest thing that will keep me as a chrome user on my android phone would be the syncing between my desktop, laptop and mobile device. I doubt opera would ever allow themselves to sync their bookmarks with chrome.

And now the chrome has a bad text rendering making the text so unsharp, then Opera beta is absolutly my choice until Google fixes chrome.

Like reskinned chrome without tab swipe, or other device sync. So not really similar at all lol.
I guess it's ok. Nothing of interest to me though. It's just a regular old style browser with no features that seem useful.
Angel browser seems most interesting to me but it's pretty buggy and no dev support... And no other device sync... Man that's a good feature.

Well to be fair it is in beta. The feature that opera advertises to put them out of the crowd would be off the road feature.
We all think it's chrome because it uses webkit which is what chrome uses. And chrome is the leader of webkit in terms of putting it out there on the map.
Mozilla uses gecko and the old opera browser uses trident.
I'd say it's a pretty successful beta 1 and looking forward to see what else they have to put out there.

Presto.
Pretty much using it as my daily driver with no issues. Which is more then Chrome was able to do on its first "stable" release.
All the features I need are there and work. And if its little data saver counter is correct then it is certainly friendly on a mobile network like old opera mini.

I want to start with saying that this theme is an paid theme through google play but I attached the uzip for the widget to left.
In other word, that one is free of charge and modifiable!.Just wanted to let that be said before anyone goes rampage cause I put a lot
of work in making this. The 4 months of wait for UCCW to implement high resolution support was terrible (not complaining!) ;_;
The last screenshots shows the beta version I created. As for now, the theme takes up the whole screen as you can see in the other screenshots.
To emphasize, I tested this on my Nexus 7, the widgets should fit perfectly.
If you're a N4 user you might have seen it over there as well. I thought I maintain a thread here as well since after all, I'm a N7 owner!
Installing uzip theme files:
Download UCCW and add a UCCW widget to your homescreen, select "uzip" and browse and select the theme.

I hope you did not do it cause it's just a zip with pngs inside xD
I'm using AOKP rom so the feature is built in to the settings where you only have to choose which image to replace with.
please post the full version here
thx

I have other free themes that I've created, this is the first one that I charge for.
Links don't work?

Works for me, I'll reupload them to dev host when I get home, just in case.
Looks pretty sweet, may have to give that a try sometime.
Ok, one issue I changed some hotspots, now the widget shows up blank (white). I assume just remove the widget and set it up again? Didn't see a refresh setting in UCCW.

Did it work out in the end? Sometimes uccw shows white widget when refreshing for a split second, but it should get back to normal right after that.
Didn't do it on my vibrant, so just removed and readded it and edited it all at the same time. Had a few moments where it just showed image place holders and no images.

Did you maybe consume all the ram available? Another thing, how does the widget look on the vibrant? It got a display of 480 x 800 after all and the theme was recommended to be used on a 720p screen.
Who knows, vibrant i know is pretty much empty software wise. Screens attached.

You can see the ram consumption in settings, sometimes uccw can take up to 80mb which is one of the reason I recommend this on a phone with at least 720p (those phones usually have decent specs). Thanks for the screenshots, how does it look in real life though? I will assume the text is barely readable?
369mb for memory under the settings.. Running Paranoid Android 2.54 (android 4.1.2). Text ain't too bad, I have it setup in phablet mode anyways to get more space on the home screens.

That should be enough! You might want to send a letter to the UCCW developer as I never had this issue before. And thanks for telling me that the text was readable, I havent personally tried it on that resolution yet.
still cant be downloaded?
Yeah, I have no idea what is taking google so long to review my account. Just sent them another email (an hour ago) asking them if you're even working.
Gotta love Google... I know one of their things, if an app is downloaded from any updates have to be done through them as well. Not to mention anything within the app can't be downloaded from outside sources either. Do I sense, Apple's methods coming to the play store? lol

Yeah, they became very strict about that. Just emailed them earlier today and they said they never got the information about my identity so I had to send them again....
