[Q] LG Nitro HD sees only one network - LG Nitro HD

Hi everyone!
Just received LG Nitro HD which was bought on ebay.com (USA). As I live in Europe I can't use AT&T so I had to buy the unlock code and I did so. When I received the codes (NCK, NSCK, SPCK, CPCK, SIMCK) the Life's SIM was already in and I was doing some setup (can't remember exactly what, but not in wireless networks). So I decided do not reboot the phone and use 2945#*930#.
When I entered the code I get in the unlock menu. I pressed Network lock and the new menu popupd. I've entered the NCK and phone says that the Unlock was successful. Than I tried to press other menu items such as SIM unlock, Corporate unlock,... but without any effect.
After that I decided to continue my "exercises" and went to main screen and I didn't saw the network connection.
Than I've tried manual search, automatic search, other SIMs (from other carriers) - the only network which the phone can connect is life but connection loses in a few seconds. BT and WiFi works perfect.
I've tried to flash 10i.kdz, 10c.kdz, 10f.kdz, 18f.exe, 20c.kdz - only 10s and 18f.exe can start, others stuck on bootscreen.
Please help me how to connect the phone to other networks and make signal straight!!!

have you entered your apn settings for your carrier?

No, but they are received automatically somehow (maybe they are flashed at SIM?) for all networks I've tried. And they are correct - I've checked it on operator's sites.

Insert any sim and do a manual search. How many networks you see?
Also verify wether it is on 3G only or anything other than automatic cause in some devices it sticks even after full flashing. If that fails, best case scenario, antenna problem.

With any SIM or without any SIM, with manual or automatic search, with "2G only" set or not set it could see only the network named "life"
So I decided (the day before yesterday) to disassemble it and see what is happened inside. And I saw that some wire was not plugged but only putted on the board. I plugged it and powered on the phone - and IT HAPPENED!!! All the networks where found!!! So I've assembled it back and the problem was resolved. Sorry, I was so happy and didn't wrote about it.
The problem is decided, case is closed. Thanks for everyone for help.

rofl, yeah plugging your antenae in is kind of important

help to unlock XDA Exec

Following Buzz's installation instuctions I am stuck with these two items.
9. Activate Radio even without Sim in it saying something about no Sim)
15. Flash your original Radio ROM. Do not upgrade the bootloader until you restored an original radio rom.
I think I am just about there with number 15 (with the resource on this site) but can not find anything on #9.
I know a lot of people say that it is already unlocked, but it seems unlocked to a few networks.
Regards
hi, XDA Execs should be unlocked
Does it ask you to enter the unlock code if u enter another sim?
If it doesn't then it's unlocked as far as i know.
What makes you believe that it's locked to a few netwroks, maybe it's because you're trying to find a non-existent umts signal...
Turning the radio on means turning flight mode off (and for the purposes of unlocking you do that without a sim)
Hope that helps.
I take it the UMTS is another name for 3G. My BT account is a normal non 3G account. Is it a case that I need to alter some of the settings, the networks it lists are...
@VF-UK
@ O2-UK
@ Orange
Is ther anything I should try....
umm, what happens if you insert a non-o2 sim into your phone?
If it's continually searching for a signal, it might be trying to search for a dodgy 3G/UMTS signal
in which case try going to phone settings, then in the band tab , select GSM instead of auto or wcdma
In the worse case scenario, if/when you flashed the radio 0.00.00, you might have had some problem with your USB (See the unlocking thread)
Thanks for all your help.
I think I have now got to the bottom of this. The fact is that BT use the VF network. The phone logs onto this, so I guess this is normal. However the signal strength never gets above 2 bars, is this normal?

Not anymore, dude. BT sold BT Cellnet (now O2 plc) a little while ago, but now they have started their own mobile service again (called BT Mobile) BUT piggybacking Vodafone's network.

[Solved] Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network

Solved for me @ post #5 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10865272&postcount=5
I've searched, read, and called my mobile provider (3 UK) to no avail, so I'm starting a fresh thread on this issue.
Relevant details:
Nokia E65 + 3 PAYG sim = ok
HTC Desire unlocked (from T-Mobile) + 3 PAYG sim = "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network"
HTC Desire above, + O2 + Virgin sim = ok
From what I've learned this has nothing to do with Android os, ROM or RUU etc., and is purely a setting/sim/connection/whatever problem. Or is it?
I bought an unlocked T-mob-branded Desire which works with o2/virgin sims, but selecting my 3 network results in the "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network" message - yet same sim is fine in my Nokia. Which I cannot work out as that implies it's a combination of phone+network, surely?
When I first got the phone, unpacked it, 3 sim in, it worked, so I rooted w. Unrevoked it and it still worked, then I Nandroid-backup'd (which I still have), then I tried I think Cyan rom 6ish, and Oxygen 2 rc6 with a Goldcard in place [goldcard has nothing to do with sim/connection, just flashing, correct?], no service/not allowed on network; same with oxygen rom. So I nandroided-restored and still no luck.
I unrooted by RUU-ing with:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release_signed.exe
(I'm on 3 so tried RUU_Bravo_H3G_UK_1.22.771.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.
02_2_release_127568_signed.exe to get a '3-rom'd phone' but I can't downgrade-which is fine by me)
so I'm back to Froyo 2.2 stock/whatever it's called, and no luck still. I mention this as I'm sure all this rom-ing has absolutely nothing to do with it but would like to be clear.
Has anyone any idea what causes this occur - not connecting that is - would 'disconnecting from network, romming, loading a new rom w/ sim, connecting and getting maybe kicked off' be the case? Or is this certainly a problem with the sim and this phone and the network; or can somehow a phone be unlocked only on certain rom and not transfer (certain this is not correct) to another - unbranding via goldcard + RUU 2.29..... has been done numerous times by people yet I seem to get this problem.
Long post, but if someone can definitely help it would be greatly appreciated - while comments like 'have you rebooted' are nice, yes, I have many many times, wipes settings, factory restored data, input apn settings, *#4636#*#* doesn't show anything I can really find of use (I tried selecting GSM only, WCDAM only, neither work) and I've tried manually/automatically connecting to network but am plagued with my "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network" message. Which ultimately makes my £300 phone as much use as an iPhone 4 being held wrong.
I cannot understand how my sim worked before on the same phone, but now after tinkering (nothing of which I think can effect this problem) it's not working again. Apart from my old Nokia.
goto *#*#4636#*#* and post your signal strength (in dbm) and LAC and CID values. It will also be good if you could attach output of logcat -b radio.
This is a well known problem with a no known answer.
Is the number stored correctly - i.e. it hasn't lost the '+' from a number starting 44?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I had the same problem two weeks ago when I returned from my holidays. I put in my 3 UK sim and it refused to connect with that same error. Sim worked perfectly in other phones.
Finally 3 UK advised me to do a factory reset on my from the Settings->Storage menu which resolved the issue. You seem to have done a full restore from a RUU which probably should be equal to doing a factory reset. But it's probably worth while doing it anyway in case the issue was with the /data or cache partition which for some reason might not have been cleaned by the RUU.
Well, I *think* I've fixed this (for me at least) - just waited a few days and tested to make sure it wasn't a 'ymmv' quick quip fix.
Basically, I'm on 3 - 3G only - and phone was set to 'WCDMA (3G) preferred' - with low signal/reception (-113dbm) it seemingly tries to get the 2G signals around (Orange-whom 3 piggyback[ed] on in low 3G areas; and O2) while changing to 'WCDMA Only' forced it to only try 3G networks - 3.
So, try this:
Key in, but don't 'call': *#*#4636#*#*
Select Phone Information
Near bottom, Set preferred network type to: WCDMA Only
Fixed it for me instantly. Three mobile UK still has -111dbm as it's best reception here but now at least I can connect to it
Let me know if this fixes it for you (clearly, if you're on a 2G-only network selecting GSM only (2G) may work).
checked your IMEI matches from *#06# and the back of the phone?
Yep, IMEIs match. I think it's (been) purely a network choice/connection issue, at least for me.
hi all. I was as usual using my xperia j but 3g signal was low so I installed signal booster app and after boosting signal the app asked with a popup window to enter network unlock password. I without thinking anything entered 12345 and after this it said wrong network password. since this happened I am getting error on Xperia J (st26i) that your sim doesn't allow connection to this network. I tried with many sims but no signal. It always shows all networks when search for network manually. But gives that above mentioned error when trying to connect to any searched network. I checked if my imei is blacklisted but there's no problem about imei. its clean. I flashed stock rom, custom rom but nothing helped. how to solve this strange error.
Mehul (nope imei does not match)

major unlock fail

Phone is an S3 for T mobile running 4.1.1
I've been in phone unlocking hell for 4 days.
Closely followed the "free" unlocking in debug mode method-trouble was phone will auto lock back after a couple hours or calls.
Tried turning the flag on and off, factory reset, all kinds of stuff and still no luck.
I broke down and bought an unlock code but can't get my phone to prompt for it.
I can't seem to undo the service mode change or find a way to enter the unlock code.
The phoen will not prompt me for an unlock code no matter which way I try to reset it.
Have you tried to odin to latest jb stock ?

Are you inserting a non T-Mobile sim card into your phone? ( I am assuming that your cell phone is the t-999) That is the only way your phone will ask for the unlock code.

yes, inserting non t mobile sim- it doens't prompt for unlock code
If I root and flash a different rom does does it bypass all hte lock/unlock BS or am I still going to have to figure out how to get that code entered
Also tried reinstalling drivers from kias- just rooted phone-it wouldn't be much trouble to install a different rom if that is the fix.
also I bought an unlock code but don't see a place to enter it in
Not 100% sure but I was under the impression the simlock feature was null on sgs3. I have no issues with mine using straight talk wireless full unlimited ($45 per mth). Aside from that, if you can give me some info on what you have done I might be able to help more. There are a few settings that need to be changed as well as phone based service menu changes.

ok
Inserted foreign (non t mobile sim)
Got a prompt for an unlock code, which I didn't have.
Used Google, found a way that looked promising by going in the service menu.
*#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone
Ok did that then phone worked. Kinda. It works for about an hour or a couple of phone calls, then the phone says "searching" and I don't have any network connection.
Also tryied turning the SHA256 back on, back off, intializing, every combination you can imagine, same result, phone doesn't work.
Bought an unlock code but can't get the pop up to come on to ask for it so I guess it is worthless.
Tried reinstalling firmwire via Kias. Same thing.
Rooted phone thinking that might be the answer. Worked for a day then same thing.
Spent countless hours on google and these forums trying to figure out a way to fix it.

What APN's do you have?
never mind got booted off again...

internet was off
this thing is crazy
It will work just fine then all of the sudden nothing-move sim over to my flip phone and it works fine.
It's like the phone is shutting itself down.
Have you changed your service address? Sounds like your sgs3 isn't finding the correct path to your new network. ....
In your Phone: Go to settings<more settings<mobile networks- then touch the option network operators to scan the available networks in your area, wait for some moment, let your phone scan, a list of available networks in your area will appear then, select the network name of your service provider to register it and you are done. You can restart fore more efficient use then.
This is from another site, I have cm nightly so my options are a lil different now. That being said after manually selecting my network with stock rom, setting my APN/WAP had no issues. With the cm nightly I didn't have to change anything. I'm thinking one of the os updates might have made it hard to access or change this option. Will try to grab a dev friend to look into this for ya.

My service provider is Cellular One.
I have three options
Select automaticly
Default setup
Search now
Selected search now
It has two
T-Mobile
311040
I selected 311040 and nothing....still got the "searching".
then selected "T-Mobile" and my phone connected to "cellular one".
please please please let this thing be fixed!
Ok we are getting somewhere.
Last night after I "registered" to T-mobile the phone did fine.
Today I stopped in at Cell one on the way home and told them I thought it was fixed and what I did.
She said that isn't good because I will get booted off when my bill comes because 50% of my useage has to be on cell one network.
So she scanned there at their store and set it to cell one.
I get back home and I'm booted off again. I tried to put it back on T mobile and I get an error now that says my Sim does not allow to register on this network.
Is there anyway to get ALL of T-Mobiles stuff off of this phone?
Would flashing a ROM do that?

No network issue after repair

Hi there,
I recently sent my phone back to HTC because my volume button was stuck, which resulted in it not being able to boot (as it always went straight to recovery). They repaired it, and after three weeks without my phone I know received it back. They 'replaced parts and did a software update.'
Problem is, now I have no mobile network connection. The phone recognises the SIM fine, but no signal and search networks results in "Error while searching for networks."
I'm blaming the software update HTC did, so I send them another email. The thing is, I don't want to send it back AGAIN, I had the phone a full 2 weeks before it broke and haven't been able to use it since. Is there anything you guys can think of that doesn't involve rooting it and losing my warranty (which I will probably need now)?
Thanks a bunch

have you tried to switch between the network mode; only WCDMA or only GSM? (Settings->Mobile Network->Network Mode)

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have, no effect. One other weird thing I have noticed since first posting: at the about -> Phone Identity screen, the phone number does not match my actual sim phone number. It reads the SIM fine though, as all my SIM contacts are available.
Could you use/try another SIM Card to check its work with a different one?
Is WiFi working? Any interruptions druing a regular call?

Regular call is impossible, as I have no cellular network at all. Wifi works fine. I am currently unable to try another SIM, as I'd have to cut a microsim out of a regular one and people around don't want to have their card cut up.
The sim works fine in my old nokia though, so I don't think that's the issue.
I'll try to find a friend with an iPhone 4 to try their microsim, but I'm not really counting on it.

As stated already , the signal could be weak in your area. Type in the dialer key pad ##3282# and you can also look to make sure all the bands are enabled on your device. I don't see why they wouldn't be though. A handful of users have stated bad connectivity with the M9, but that's on the sprint network I have been reading about.
at ##3282# it say only OK.. nothing about enable bands and i tryed sim of my friend (vodafone 4g) he have m8 and 4g working... on my m9 doesnt..

I have same problem with my M9+. In Manchester Area UK
I had perfect 4G with my old M8 but with new phone only 3G!!
Let me know if you get any answers. HTC and Vodafone couldnt help me either.
Check access point names, make sure only one is listed and selected.
Go to networks and search for network, click automatic.
Open the connectivity selection and make sure that the scalable option is chosen (2g/3g/4g)
Are you using one Base with the wrong firmware? Make sure they match up.
Find a friend on the same network or shared network and see if they have 4g in your location.
Test the sim in another phone.
Call network to check for issues in your area and or if there is an error against your account, may need a new sim if that one is old.
Test in major parts of the city center next time you're shopping..
Perform a speed test to see what speed you're actually getting, hspa is up to 20mb, 4g AFAIK is around 60mb, I've had 48 before. Anything over 20 could be considered 4g, you will very very rarely see a 3G tariff go over 19mb, which is the most I've ever seen.
Good luck.

I tried my sim with my wife's iphone and i got 4g without any problem. It's not a sim issue. Whatever the problem is, it's with the device (hardware, software, settings). I remember it also took me a few weeks after getting the M9 to get a 4g signal, but then one day it just appeared so there's that to add to the mystery.

Reset your network settings mate, set to manual then back to automatic.
Make sure you actually catch the network on manual first before manual. You will find it, it's just a case of going through the motions.
Also click menu, reset to defaults in access point names.

1. How do you "reset network settings"?
2. set to manual - you mean in 'Network operators' menu select 'Search networks', select my network, then go back and selecting 'Select automatically'?
3. What do you mean "just a case of going through the motions"?
4. Should I reset APN at the last step or at the beginning?
I'm trying to understand your steps as clearly as i possible can because this no 4g issue took a lot of time and effort from me and it still doesn't work. Any help is very much appreciated.

I am trying to help you.
There are no steps it's just a case of trying everything to do with the network. If what you say is true and you've literally just had this issue occur out of the blue then it has to be a difference on the handset, especially seeing as you have tested the sim in another phone and it works.
Reset to default is with apn, doesn't matter when you do this just reset them, make sure it's checked and cycle mobile data on and off.
Clarify that your device is set to 2g/3g/4g within network mode (I believe it's called)
And I was referring to setting network selection to manual within mobile network settings, then choosing your network, then researching and selecting automatic.
The path is: settings / mobile data / network operators / search networks, wait for yours and select it, cycle mobile data (turn off then back on) if that doesn't work, switch back to automatic.
Reboot your phone after making changes, perform the full shut down method instead of the restart or power off methods, it's power and volume up AFAIK, hold for 10+ seconds, might be 15.
Going through the motions refers to checking anything and everything which influences the network, one of these setting will get it working..
Might be seen as overkill but a factory reset (if it's not been tried already) good luck.

I know you are trying to help me, and I very much appreciate it. Truly am.
I tried doing all the steps you listed, but no luck. Even tried at some point to force lte only in 4636 screen but that resulted in no signal at all. Trying to manually select a network in that setting only gives me the other 2 networks that work in the area but not vodafone which is what I use.
As a complete overkill I RUU earlier to the new 2.11.617 firmware without signing into my google account or restoring anything, and still no lte. What I did saw however, in the select network screen, was that next to my network, it said 2g/3g and next to the other 2 networks here it said 2g/3g/4g. Obliviously I can't select them as it's a vodafone simcard.
I added here SS from LTE discovery app while i was on 'lte only' mode. You can see signal is there but it cannot connect.
Any wild ideas or suggestions? I'm opened to try almost anything
Just out of interest, have you tried a different sim card? I know you said that your sim worked in another phone but I'd still be tempted to contact voda to get a new sim and to see if everything is set up on a network level, you may have to tell via that the issue is persistent in different phones or they may make you pay for it.
Also, might be something to do with the association between your phone and your sim. I once had a sim that blocked my missus, she could call me but I couldn't call her, no active diverts of any kind, I could call anyone and they could call me, got a new sim and it was sorted. Very strange, but anomalies like this do occur.
Have you got any mods or are you at stock at the moment? I know you said ruu. Oh and lol click thanks BTW.

Very strange, but anomalies like this do occur.
Have you got any mods or are you at stock at the moment? I know you said ruu. Oh and lol click thanks BTW.

Well the thing is that my wife's sim card in my phone only gets 3g. On her iPhone it's 4g. My sim card in my wife's iPhone gets 4g. On my phone only 3g so it seems like a very specific problem with my device.
Shortly after ruu I installed viper 3.5 without any mods..
Can it be that my device is somehow blocked by the network towers or something of that nature?
Maybe a hidden setting somewhere that blocking the phone's 4g capabilities? This is getting ridiculous..
Thanks for your help mate. Can't believe I forgot to press the thanks button [emoji2]

No worries fella
If you've already tried another sim and it's still not happening, the firmware matches the rom, your sim works in other phones with 4g. Then I'm really not sure mate..
Give Lee droid a whirl that's what I'm using at the moment.. A simple but great rom..
I'm pretty much out of ideas now, if all of the above has been checked then it's something that I'm not aware of.. Sorry mate..
for the record it is a weird one, something should have got it working by now..

Thanks for the help mate.
I can't return the device as it was bought in the states and I live in Europe at the moment.
I think I will try to change my sim card for a new one just in case, and will change back to stock 2.11.617 for a couple of days to see if that can make any difference.
Will post an update if i will have one.

Good luck fella, hope it all works out for you. With it being bought in the states would the band frequency of the device make a difference? Just spitballing there. Good luck..

Yes it would. He probably bought a cdma and has to have the correct bandwidths unlocked.
