hi all,
I have been running koodo v4 since I got my koodo s2x and would like to update it to v5. I am trying to follow the flash instruction down to the letter, i.e. using app2zip to back up all my user apps. However, I am having problems with app2zip: it simply doesn't finishes backing up! As an example, I just did the following:
1) rebooted S2X,
2) make sure nothing is running (checked using task manager,
3) run app2zip
4) checked all user apps (around 40+)
5) press the "GO!" button.
It has been about an hour and it is still "in process" backing up youtube.
anyone else has this problem running app2zip?
thanks in advance,
hi,
any help is very much appreciated!
You don't need to backup every single app, it's way too tedious on App2Zip. If you have Titanium backup, it can back up all user apps. Otherwise, uninstall all the junk you haven't used in a couple weeks. Then take a note of what apps you have left that aren't system apps. If any app requires data that you don't want to lose (ie; has complex settings you chose, or log-in, etc), back those apps up in App2Zip. Otherwise, you can just download the apps again from the google market when you flash your new ROM.
Reading your post again, if you are upgrading from v4 to v5, I'm fairly certain you can just dirty flash. Make a complete backup of your ROM in your recovery. Then, install the v5 zip, wipe cache/davlik cache and reboot. If you get errors, just restore the complete backup and flash it using the method in the above paragraph.
Yes, I know there are other threads out there from people having this same message. But I read through several of them, and they have having different issues.
The facts:
Samsung Galaxy Nexus, running ParanoidAndroid 2.99 beta6 (JB 4.2.1)
I had forgotten to re-flash the gapps after updating to the beta6, so I just tried flashing the newest gapps using GooManager (comes with PA I believe...)
Anyway, that was a bad idea apparently. Using GooManager. Now, whenever I boot up, I get that error in the title, and when I hit OK, I get the constant message "Setup Wizard has stopped working." I can't access my home screen, it's just black, and I've tried doing a factory reset, then reinstalling the ROM and gapps using TeamWin Recovery (what I normally use).
I am currently in the process of wiping my phone COMPLETELY, and then installing the system and such, hopefully fixing it. Just makes me sad that I didn't have a very recent backup =(
Assuming that doesn't work, does anyone have tips for me? Or an idea of what I SHOULD have done FIRST, after the problem occurred?

Sound like drama I would go with your initial plan and start over again with a clean wipe. But before doing that have you tried fixing permissions to see if that helps?
could you tell us which gapps you are flashing? also do you use Titanium Backup to restore all your apps?
I wasn't really able to use my phone, when it was "broken". Couldn't access anything on the home screen (as there seemed to be no home screen at all) and the "Setup Wizard" pop-up just kept coming. So, I did not try fixing permissions.
Ummm... I was/am using the most recent gapps from goo.im I believe. I was linked to the gapps download from the PA thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619582). 4.2-2012 11 27
Anyway, it all works now. It took a few tries. I used the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit to flash stock ROMs (tried stock 4.2, but it got stuck on the Google boot screen [not animation] every time, so I settled on 4.0.4) and later flash TWRP so I could flash PA 2.99beta6 again. I did it properly this time, and all works well.
Sorry to bother the forums with this thread.
Oh! And I have NOT been using Titanium Backup. I tried using it, before I upgraded to PA 2.99 (required a format to go from the previous version), but it wouldn't back up anything properly. I eventually settled on using the GNex Toolkit (which also failed for me, but it was a fault on my part).
So to get my apps back, I've been doing it manually by going to the play store and going one-by-one to get the apps that were synced to my account. Really sucks losing all of my data =/
go to /system/app folder using root browser, and look for apks with incorrect permissions. All apk inside that folder should have 644 permission (owner read write, group read, and other read)
Or you could alternatively fix permissions from recovery or using other apps
i had this on stock 4.0.4 when i first got my phone.. flashed 4.1 and it fixed the issue
OP - I use mybackup pro from the app store to backup all my data/apps and videos etc. Simply backup then go into your phones system folder go into rerware folder and find your backup folder and drag it to your pc. Simply update your phone then just drop mybackup pros apk file to your phone again ..install..then drag your backup folder back into its rerware folder...if it doesnt have a rerware folder..do a little backup of your phone in stock and then you should see that rerware folder...anyway thats just the way i do it..works blissfully for me everytime!
This is for the Galaxy S2 on T-mobile, for the LG Volt StockWalk go here
What this rom is.
===========
This a rebuilt stock deodexed rooted base, with some added csc tweaks and build.prop tweaks.
I have also updated the apps to their latest versions and included a couple extra Google apps (keep, and voice). Also included is
Mi FileExplorer, and Adobe Flash.
But this rom will be kept as the stock Touchwiz feel, I didn't like the way it was debloated by some so I decided to do it myself. And
I like the result.

THREAD RULES
============
i have some ground rules i wanna throw out early on so that everyone knows. I know there are rules and guidelines on xda about searching and whatnot before you post blah blah blah.
screw that... in this thread these are my guidelines (xda is total law over these obviously... what a mod says goes...) i suggest.
1. chit chat is cool as long as it semi-pertains to this rom. I've gotten great ideas and suggestions from chit chat.
2. if a total noob asks a total noob question, don't rip his/her ass for it. answer it or stfu and i will answer it. I don't care if the answer was one page back or in the op... be nice about it.
3. suggestions, feedback, and criticism negative or positive is encouraged. ESPECIALLY NEGATIVE CRITICISM. i'm super serious. the whole point of the rom is to rid all of the crap that annoys you.
4. I will always update the OP (original post, first post) whenever there is an update. and while i am working on the rom i update it super often (every few mins sometimes)..
5. eta requests are allowed.. and ill give one... but know that the e in eta stands for estimated.

New build is up. let me know if you find any issues at all. I cant find any yet.
I liked at but I had no play store. Installed an apk but that didn't work either, would just close immediately. That was the only issue I found.

try the new build, its completely rebuilt, but as an fyi on the 1.0.0 version the playstore was working for me and phonesky.apk is in the preload folder and updated, along with gmscore and the others. also if you didnt let it settle for a couple minutes that may have been an issue. just try the 1.0.1 and lemme know. im running it now with no issues.
having trouble with superuser not asking for permissions on apps, any suggestions?
thank you for pointing that out. it may be the version of superuser, im gonna try another one and get another build out tonight.

cool, i will wait, like you i hate volume rocker wake, at least on this phone...lol
edit: if its not to much to ask or i can do it when downloaded, but i also dont like on, off sound but if you do thats cool i can do it...thanks for the hard work and reply
yeah n/p ill remove the startup sound this go round, im deodexing again with the kitchen but this time im rooting with chainfire instead of chainsdd. manually replacing the superuser.apk and su binary fixes the root issue, i still want to let it finish deodexing the new build for that fresh build taste though. his superuser asks for an update on boot tho in the play store, so im gonna bundle it in so it doesnt ask.

Hmmm, flashed the latest and still no Play Store. I am also not able to add a Google account. I waited 15 minutes after flashing. I am using Clockwork Recovery. I get stuck on the boot screen us TWRP. I did the appropriate wipes before flashing and cleared caches after.

4.1.2 is havinf trouble when wiping caches afterward, either dont wipe or use the cache wipe file from Jamison904. i dont wipe after flash anymore now...hope this helps
here is the link to it...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235141.
just a helpful pointer if you think it gets stuck after wiping cache on twrp, it stays on the end of that loading bar what seems like forever but eventually does boot, so try giving it a little time, you may be thinking its stuck when its not. shouldnt take longer than 5 mins though.
btw new build is uploading now. root and flashplayer are working.
edit.... please read second post, the wipe scripts should solve our issues.
if i'm on ICS stock rooted, can i flash this in TWR to switch on over to JB?

i would reccomend you flash the newest radio beforehand for no issues (radios can be found here) UVMC6 should be at the top, also be sure to nandroid a backup first.
(note, im not certain if the radio is required, but its the way im using it, perhaps someone can clarify.)
Also... New build up... this should be the one to rule them all, very careful tweaking from here on out. please let me know of any issues you can find, also be mindful of how you wipe due to the symlink partition (read post 2)...
that being said i wiped normally even after flashing a kernel and i am not having any issues other than having to log into my google account again. and thats only when i wipe through twrp. but it does boot regardless if you wait. using the scripts should eliminate that problem though.
reflashed after downloading from my dev host link through the phone and i can flash dalvik cache and cache just fine again through twrp. so this is looking very promising and should turn out to be a stable base.
installed just fine, setup went good has superuser..set up to my liking now, using tiberus kernel with kernel tuner set both cores to max=1836 min=192, smartassv2, scheduler=row, and sd to 4096..only have internal sd so ( dont know if that matters but placebo effect makes me think it does...lol )......no volume rocker wake=awesome...no boot up or shut down sound=awesome.....steup screen to 220 density.....rebooted into TRWP recovery wiped cache/dalvik cache using Twrp advance wipe option installed miui player, s-voice, and transparent accuweather widget...running smooth and fast, wifi calling works...will report back after some more time but for now running great...awesome work, Thank You for the hard work!!!!
I got the phone as a gift from my uncle in China, it's working fine except I need google apps. From what I've read here and elsewhere I can download the correct version of GApps for my version of android and simply flash it by saving it going into the SD card and entering recovery mode.
I have some questions:
Is there a specific GApps file for the Desire 816 or can I just use any one such as from team android for 4.4 KitKat?
Will this procedure void warranty and how risky is it?
Should I do a back up of the stock OS? Nandroid requires root access and I don't want to root the phone unnecessarily. Also the methods for system back up without root such as holo backup seem unreliable for some devices. Has anyone done a back up for the Desire 816 with holo/Ultimate Backup Tool?
Device Specifications
Android Version: 4.4.2
HTC Sense 5.5
ROM 1.31.1403.1

If you want to install the Gaaps, you should have clockworkmod recovery for sure, which requires unlocking your bootloader and rooting. Once you do that you will loose warranty. But do you really think that you ever claim for warranty ? I have used 11 smart phones so far and never went back to the vendor for any issues. I completely relied on XDA forum and never got disheartened. Anyways, thats your choice, whether to live without google apps in your smartphone until your warranty period expires and live like a king by rooting and installing the gapps? If you choose the later option, then start with unlocking the bootloader, followed by rooting, followed by custom recovery installation and then gaaps zip installation.
Btw, use the gapps from the following link http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=10238 rather than the one you found that are for cyanogenmod roms.

Thanks for the advice. I wound up rooting the phone with Clockwork Recovery Mod. I've tried flashing the gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip file that you linked, the flashing completes successfully and the phone boots. However as soon as I try to go past the lock screen the error message "Setup wizard has stopped working" is repeated on loop. I did a system restore, tried a package from here to the same effect. I saw a post where someone had a similar issue and did something along the lines of wiping user data and dalvik however for the life of me I can't find it again.
EDIT******
Nevermind, I did a full system restore, wiped Dalvik, Cache, User Data then flashed the modular gapps package I got from the second link I mentioned. I then wiped everything again and started the phone. Went through initial set up and now everything seems fine. Will update if google apps starts playing up.
EDIT # 2
Play store doesn't work properly Will try again in the morning using the package you suggested.

Sorry to note the hiccups you are facing dude. I should have told you about setupwizard thingy, which I learnt about it ages ago. My sincere apologies. Flashing gapps on chinese roms will corrupt the existing setup wizard. So the work around for this is to, backup that system apk, using titanium backup or any other popular ones and then reinstall it once the gapps are installed. But now that you confirmed it working, I am now bit relaxed. But yeah so sorry for that.
Re your play store apk, Google has updated his play store apk recently. Try the new version apk from http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...issions-bigger-buttons-and-more-apk-download/ and then go to Apps, playstore and delete data and cache. Wipe dalvik cache (optional) from the recovery and then try if it works. I am sure it should work without having to delete all this caches and data, but yours being chinese version mobile and had troubles before with it, try those tricks.
All the best.

Thanks again, I followed your advice and my apps now seem to be working ok. I think play store is a little unstable still, I occasionally get errors attempting to download apps (Error 904 I think) but those go away if I just restart the download. I had Facebook messenger force close once but that was when it was going through its tutorial mode. It's now also working fine.
Unfortunately this process seems to break the FM Radio app which is a minor blow, attempting to back up and restore with Titanium Backup gives the message "App was not installed". Same applies when restoring setup. I'm not sure if having a corrupt set up wizard will create problems for me in the future.
The only thing I can think of which would cause the problems restoring system apps is that I didn't apply the wp_mod.ko which is recommended as part of this root procedure. That's meant to allow me to write to the system. The instructions for doing so weren't particularly clear and everything else seemed to be working at the time so I skipped it (I know, probably not the best idea).
Any advice would be appreciated, however right now I'm pretty happy with the rest of my phone working with google apps! I'm also investigating whether spiritFM will work as an alternative to the stock radio app.

Thanks for updating us with your issues. I think by your description, i can see that it could be cache's problem. What I usually do is, when you install any rom via backup, I try to do factory reset twice from the systems setting and security. This will eliminate all the cache issues that you are facing with google play and fmradio. If you cannot restore the factory settings for any reason, I would then try going to settings --> Apps --> find google play app - -> delete the data and clear cache. This will make you to re enter your google account again. Hopefully, your google play should work fine. Apply the same trick to your fmradio too and see if it makes any difference ?
Hit thanks if it works, so that others would learn from your experience and know that this trick worked.

Hi, all
I'm a newbie who recently installed a custom kernel on a tablet (without flashing ROM), and used Trickster MOD to make a few modications.
I'd like to seek guidance from fellow forum members on two questions, namely:
1 If I reset the machine via "Backup & reset > Factory data reset", would all the custom kernel, unlocked bootloader, the rooted state, etc be gone, and I would have to do the work afresh?
2 Is there a way to delete the current Google primary account and ceate a fresh one, without having to root, install the custom kernel, etc from scratch?
Thanks in advance for any feedback or pointers!
