[Q] [PLEASE HELP!] Camera Not Working! - HTC One V

Please Help! My HTC ONE V cannot use a camera.
I bought this phone in july 2012...
My ROM is stock, no root. when I click the camera icon in homescreen, it's just back again to homescreen.. :crying:
Trying to Delete some APPS (games obviously), the camera back to work for a while, but after 4 hours, it is not working again!
I have tried Restore Factory Settings, YES, My DATA is GONE. But the camera? STILL NOT WORKING..
I browse the internet to find people that have same problem with me, but they still dont have any conclusion to solve this problem..
http://www.htconeforum.com/forum/htc-one-v-help/1566-htc-one-v-camera-not-working-please-help.html
http://www.htconesource.com/forum/htc-one-v-help/1214-my-cameras-not-working.html
PLEASE HELP ME..
EDIT:
1. I've tried to use another 3rd Party Camera App, -I used CAMERA MX- Downloaded from play store, and this is what I got: -see attachments- I tried to restart it several times, but still no change, still give me this error..
2. Formatting my sd-card and internal storage -it's empty now- still no luck -
3. Clearing the cache from camera app -settings-app-camera-clear cache, no effect, still back to homescreen after click camera icon..
*Is Root - ing and Installing new ROM can solve my problem?

Is this problem arising now or was it there from july?

Nope, this problem starting from 2 weeks ago.. until now.. can you help?? :silly:

This happens with almost all one v users
It will go away with time.
Go to settings-apps-camera and clear its cache.
Mine started on the second day and stopped by the 5th or 6th day.

Rooting and flashing doesn't help the cam get better, but it gives you many other privileges.

Uuhm.. okay.. what about flashing another kernel ?
-I also have samsung galaxy wonder, flashing the kernel help that phone camera getting better, and the picture from my attachment was taken by that wonder-
In your Opinion -- is this camera problem caused by ROM, Kernel or Hardware Fault?
-See My Attachment, I did so many restart, but the camera still not work, is it hardware fault? maybe type of the battery is fixed battery ? -

As waiting solved my same exact problem,I suggest you wait.It may be a kernel problem, not sure....

Anyone Here have same exact problem with us??

It could also be a corrupted jpg file in your pictures folder. Try copying them all off onto your computer and clearing out the folder on your phone.

...or just install 3rd party camera apk from play store and that's it...
Not to mention, root your phone, choose rom and you'll have "a device", not just boring hov...

hmm,, stock cam is the best.. but if I root this device, I need to unlock this bootloader from htcdev, that means void my warranty..,
But maybe there is a chance when I change this phone Stock ROM and Kernel, the camera will work again.. :silly:
I just confused what should I do with this phone..

It 'may or may not,or void some parts of your warranty'in terms of HTC.if you flash a custom Rom,cam will surely work, but in jb ROMs,the resolution is not 5mp and its a little buggy.

Flashing new ROM looks promising.. I've decided to root this phone tonight, and flash a new ROM. :good:
Do you have some suggestion for which ROM and kernel should I flash?

Don't hurry.take time.or you may do irreparable damage to your phone.when you're satisfied and confident, then only root.
I am currently using my sense rc2.0(full sense) Rom by the great dev ckpv5,I find it a very neat Rom.
but again, its upto you which Rom and kernel suits you best, whether you want a daily driver,or for fun or pure smoothness and responsiveness, speed and agility.
I cannot recommend you a Rom as I'm unfamiliar with your needs and usage.my use is moderate, some time on xda, calls, messages, little gaming, etc.I find my sense Rom very suitable for this type of use...

[Question] Can you put the EVO/Incredible camera app on AOSP rom?

I'm not a huge fan of Sense in general, but the Sense camera app is imo much better than the stock one so I was wondering if it was possible to flash the EVO or Incredible camera on an AOSP and be able to use the camera app. I tried searching the forums for this one, but nothing turned up. Thanks guys!

Try installing this with Astro/ES/Root Explorer.
Disclaimer: I am NOT a dev. I pulled this from a ROM zip I had on my computer. If something happens to your phone because of this, not my fault. That said, give it a shot
I know CM6 has tap to focus in the camera app. Not the sense camera, but a much better stock one. You could even tap to focus taking video. Maybe it will make it to CM7 sometime down the road.
It wont work

Nope, didn't work. It was designed to replace the camera on a sense rom with the EVO version, but figured I'd give it a try anyway.
Guess someone has to code it
good luck finding a solution. that was my main reason i couldn't stay with an aosp rom.. the sense cam is much better. hopefully someone could code it to work.

I'm going to say no because the evo sense camera is based on HTC frame work which is incompatible with ASOP framework. Then again, I could be wrong.

same reason for me...I know IncredibleDoes had an AOSP ROM with the Sense camera, I just wish there was a way to make an update.zip or a working .apk for every AOSP rom.
It's been done on the nexus one, on Enomther's TheOfficial NexusOne rom. There is an update.zip for adding the HTC cam, and restoring the stock cam. Do a diff on these update zips, and try to find the differences (most likely found in framework files), and apply them to the rom of your choosing.
This may require some smali/baksmali know-how, but it's achievable.
Original Thread
HTC Cam
Stock Cam
NOTE! DO NOT FLASH THESE ZIPS, THEY PROBABLY (read: MOST LIKELY) WILL NOT WORK. You have been warned.
If you want to flash it, do so with a nandroid backup of your current rom on hand.
PS This may have already been done for CM on the nexus, but I can't remember correctly where (or if) I actually saw it.
There are supposed to be nice replacement camera apps in the market, although I haven't tried any of them.

I might give this a shot, def prefer the Sense camera. Can I verify the link though, both download htcmusic_2.14.1.zip and have the HtcMusic.apk in them
Fixed the links in my post.
The camera requires some hooks/drivers in the kernel, so a ziggy kernel may work, or you'd need to talk to enomther. I would attempt this myself, but school starts tomorrow, and I have no more free time.

[JB][ICS] CRON-o-GENMOD9 / CronMod CM10: General Thread

General thread for the JB CM10/AOSP based rom by cronmod dev team here and the ICS CM9 based rom here.
Check the respective rom sites for a what's working/not working list, features and download links. Discuss general things about the rom here such as a2sd scripts and any issues
As requested by the dev for the ICS rom:
What's NOT working?
Code:
[LIST]
[*]Camera force closes while recording video
[*]Hardware decoding for video playback -> laggy playback of 720p (use software decoding in Mx Player instead).
[*]Home/Search key (use the fix over [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34075493&postcount=131"]here[/URL])
[/LIST]
Anything that isn't said there is working fine. Will update the list if others find anything that doesn't work. Before asking for help do check you have the right hboot and that the md5 is correct after you download the rom. Also make sure you perform a full wipe when migrating to these roms.
Bear in mind that ICS was not made for our devices. Do not expect the stability of GB but the devs have done a great job on this and it is quite stable and quick for daily use.
Installation for CM9 ICS rom:
Code:
[U]Full wipe recommended before each flash from new version and is NEEDED if coming from any other rom.[/U]
Partition SD card so you have less than 1.5gb in sd-ext partition and the rest as FAT32. Gparted is recommended.
Flash the rom from recovery.
Grab m2sd from [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342387"]here[/URL] (credit to dk_zero-cool) and flash it from recovery using whatever options you want (recommended by to choose apps and dalvik).
Wipe cache/dalvik and reboot :)
You can use cron's INT2EXT scripts as well from here and just flash in place of m2sd.
Feel free to ask any questions here but keep the dev threads on topic.
Anyone using the JB rom if you could post a not working list from your tests that'd be great .
Since corey moved on to JB the cron r2 hboot isn't available on the website anymore. The current version of the ICS cronmod rom still fits on to the 183mb system hboot so I thought to put this up here for those that want a bit more space in data
WARNING: The size of the system partition may increase in future so the hboot might not be compatible with future versions of cronmod cm9.
Check md5 before flashing and flash through fastboot using "fastboot flash hboot filepathAndName.img"

Its quite usable as a daily rom. At least I use it daily. But don't expect the level of stability like gingerbread. I mean, The kernel is still under improvement. Best way is to use it for a few days and judge yourself.

Hello,
I flashed this ICS rom just before Yasir took over and I must say I'm happy with it.
It is a bit slower than my previous CM7 rom of course but nothing dramatic, and it somehow seems more stable for some reason (GPS works, for example!).
And I still get a quite big amount of space on data thanks to the cron r2 hboot, which is great!
And I also love the CM9 tweaks.
So overall a good surprise for my first jump from CM7 roms.
But I tested Chrome and discovered it is so laggy it is unusable. Do you guys have the same issue?

I don't need video recording myself so I wouldn't know. But any camera app should work. I've heard good things about ICS Camera on market. Very close to stock camera app as well.
I'm going to be linking my friend this ROM soon-ish (once beta comes out) and she's using a BravoC on Ntelos. What kind of prep would she need to do on the phone before flashing the ROM? Like a wipe script or something to repartition or what? Want it to go as smooth as possible.

I suggest you to use INT2EXT+ with this ROM, take a look HERE.
I noticed that when i install a new app (from the market or an .apk), the system hangs for a while, sometimes it even pop with a system error, but if i select to wait the system then starts to work again, i have installed INT2EXT+ script with a 512 sd-ext partition on a Class 4 8 GB SD card. Could the low SD class can cause this problem? SD read cache is correctly set at 2 MB.
Could you amswer me whats working and whats not working in your cm9 rom? Cant find it

current issues with turbo kernel 3.1

Here's what i can see what glitches i can find in turbo kernel 3.1
-screen animations and are disabled and is not to be turned on [ICS]
-Video playback is buggy, regardless what video player you use, youtube included. [ICS]
-camera does not work (FC) on launch on stock based ICS rom, required patch is found -> HERE <-
-Sometimes becomes complacently unusable, sometimes will not go to recovery menu and will just freeze. a complete FTF Flash and kernel install is required to fix. Sometimes after kernel install choosing TWRP recovery hangs on loading TWRP, presumed fix, remove SD card and place in a external reader and delete the the turbo folder "WARNING - THIS WILL DELETE ALL OTHER SLOTS OTHER SLOTS OTHER THEN SLOT 1" place SD back in phone reboot back into TWRP and wait a couple of minutes.
-Visual Glitches [GB]
-camera completely doesn't work in [GB]
-More to report as i find them.

solution given by Cosmic Dan in the thread when changing kernels..no need flash ftf..just mount the card, delete folder called turbo and flash new kernel.1 mnt to do so.

i dont..but its already discussed many times in OP by Cosmic Dan..since he is gone, i find really hard to fix anything..for the moment..but nickoltus maybe take this kernel and make it even better or Dan if he wants to finish his work(he already has work done in kernel 4.0 i think)..but in JB and CM9 based roms work all fine..just stock ICS and GB have some little issues that everybody knows now, and there are some fixes (like you releasing that patch for stock ICS camera, thanks for that) or GB (i find a solution too for camera in GB,just look in MIUI classic r3 GB i put it there..should work on every GB roms in turbo kernel)..way easier to fix somethings in roms than in kernel..a few could do it.:good:

To 4th point:
When this happened to me, deleting the turbo folder didnt fix it.
If that happens you need to wipe /cache and /sdcard0/turbo.
No need to flash ftf!

AOSP Front Facing Camera

Hi, all. So, I was wondering if there are any fixes for the front facing camera bug for third party apps when using AOSP ROMs. When I use front facing camera in third party apps, causes force reboot. I hear this is a common thing with AOSP ROMs, and there has got to be another thread on this (which I've yet to find that offers any real answers). Not sure if this problem affects Hangouts yet, but I'm pretty sure it would have the same problem.
Do a google search for note 2 camera4.3 apk. you'll have to uninstall your existing gallery and then flash the apk file . then reboot into recovery and fix permissions. I use this on my d2att and camera works great.. focal and photosphere.
Thanks!

Thanks for the advice! I'll give that a try. I couldn't figure out how to fix permissions in CWM, though. I thought it was supposed to in "Advanced", but I couldn't find it.

OK. Apparently, the only way to fix permissions for CWM is in the ROM manager app, which I already have. This lets you pick and choose which apps you want to fix permissions for. I'll look into it further and give it a try. If I have to use TWRP, then so be it. Just not really familiar with it. Thanks for all the help, though. I'll post if it works.
Installed, but same problem.
So... first I'd like to say Photosphere is AWESOME! However, I still have the same problem with the front facing camera. If it works at all, it FC when picture is snapped. I think I need to figure out how to set the flashed camera a default or something. I don't know.

Yeah... I understand this is a pretty common problem with CM 10 and AOSP roms. I gotta wonder if there is a solid solution to this or if I just did something wrong. I replaced the stock camera/gallery with the Note 2 camera 4.3, but it still does the same thing. Tried wiping dalvik cache and fix permissions, but nothing seems to have worked. Now running Dandroid cyangenwiz ROM and that works fine, it just isn't smooth and nice like AOSP. Love some of the features, but miss the buttery smoothness of CM 10.2. You said that you haven't had any problems with front facing camera?

LOL , I never use it... but yeah... I tried it after you posted fc... .Try to download slim rom and take the gallery apk from there and drop into your rom. front camera works, but I don't think you'll have photospere.

Yeah, I'm not real concerned about the front facing camera, except when it comes to hangouts and skype. Haven't had the chance to really test it.

P8000 can't connect to camera

Hello everyone!
I'm having trouble with the P8000 camera.
Every time I open the app, it says it can't connect to the camera and that I should close any apps that may be interfering with the camera or flash. Other apps that may use the camera give me a generic message telling me the camera can't be found or is in use.
After many, many hours : I have so far tried :
- Eragon 3.0 + camera fix (neither worked)
- Vibe 2.9
- Flyme
And I have also tried these stock roms :
- K05TS-A.A.vA0W.E1.150909 (which is the most recent available)
- K05TS-A.A.vA0L.E1.150725 (an older one since I figured I could try a downgrade)
None of these ROMs have fixed my camera that used to work fine when I first got the phone :/
Has anybody got a solution to this problem?
Thank you very much for your time
Did you format and delete caches ???

If you really made a WIPE before installating Eragon and/or Stock ROM it sounds like there might be something wrong with your phone as both of those are confirmed to work well with the camera.
And i assume we are talking about the original camera app, not any 3rd part apps?
Anyway, the original app should work even with 150725 as the camera fixes was only to address problems with 3rd part camera apps...

incorrect you need to delete caches using custom recovery then flash eragon 3.0 because ive never had any problems with eragon 3.0

Yes I'm talking about the original app
Ive played some heavy games that made my phone hot in the upper part, is it possible the heat damaged the camera?

Hello,
i have the same problem. I change the rom into 20150909 and didn't fix it! I used only original apps and neither camera nor flashlight doesn't work.
Anyone know a solution for this problem?
Thanks so much for reply!

Sounds like you didn't flash it well or something because my phone works with eragon 3.8
Sent from my Elephone P8000 using XDA Free mobile app
Thx for Your reply.
Before flash, the problem was the same. It means, neither cam nor flashligt doesn't work. In that reason I have to try flash into newest version.
Do you think the flash with eragon may solve my problem?
Now when I want to switch on my cam (icon in original theme) I can see alert "Device is not installed", but when I use a nova launch, support from cam doesn't exist and I can't find it.
best regards

If both cam and flashlight not working it means there is camera issue. Without camera flashlight does not work.
Check the camera connection if it is ok then need to replace the camera.
