Good news for those with bricked Google Wallets - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey guys, so I bricked my Google Wallet after forgetting to reset it the other day.
Unfortunately my nandroid was corrupted too.
Anyway, I reverted to stock unrooted and loaded up the r96 Wallet APK from here on XDA.
I then took the phone to the Sprint store to see if I could lie my way into getting a warranty replacement.
Unfortunately they said that because Wallet is not OFFICIALLY supported on the note 2 yet they couldn't do anything about it.
However, here is the good news. They also told me that and OTA is coming up that does officially support Google Wallet.
They also told me that if Wallet is still not working when the OTA is released they will fix my device under warrenty. If it cant be fixed then they will replace it under warrenty but they have to charge $50 as I dont have insurance. (Its free if you do have insurance.)
So in the end, we just have to wait a few weeks and shell out $50 to have fully working Google wallets again!

All Samsung phones come with a 1yr manufacturer's warranty. Anyone who purchased their phone less than a year ago can obtain an RMA directly from the Samsung website, and have a FREE replacement (no deductible) in 10 days.
For people who are out of the warranty period, Sbeam does not work properly once the Secure Element is fried, which allows you to demonstrate a phone problem without trying to explain Google Wallet to Sprint reps. Basically, if you borked your SE, you do NOT need to wait for official GW support before you can replace your phone.
*EDIT* The Assurian/Sprint deductible for the Note 2 is $200, not $50.

The deductible only applies in cases of Water damage, physical damage, or theft. Anything warranty related has no deductible when you have TEP. The $50 the op mentioned is IN STORE warranty repair (with no sign of water damage/physical damage) when you don't have TEP.

Never trust a sprint rep about OTA because they have no idea about OTA realses.

Incorrect, sir. Google Wallet is still not available via the Play Store for the SPH-L900, nor is it listed by Google as an "eligible device" (http://support.google.com/wallet/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1347934). It does work on on MA7, if installed as an untrusted app, but it is, as of now, still unsupported on the Note 2.

Well it works now unlike on ljc which just gave you device unsupported message in the past. Being that Samsung just added the support on this ota I'm sure it'll take some tine before Google updates its list.

It would be supported soon. If you goto your desktop browser goto Google and then Wallet if you check devices you will see SPH-L900 which is our phone. But our phone is not listed under there officially supported devices. I think it is in transition to be an officially supported device.

Ah so Secure Element breaks SBeam? Sweet, thanks for the excuse!
I suppose thats a good bit of info for everyone too. I'll let you know if they do anything.
Also for clarification, you can send your phone to Samsung for repair/replacement for this issue under warranty. There is no charge for this. The only thing is you must be completely stock and unrooted and it takes a minimum of 10 days.
You can also bring your phone to the sprint store and have it replaced under warranty on the spot. Again you must be stock and unrooted. If you have insurance on your phone then this service is free. If you don't then there is a $50 warranty replacement fee.
If you were to bring in a rooted phone and your warranty is void, then they will charge you the $200 deductible. You also must have insurance if this is the case. If you don't have insurance your out of luck in this case from what I understand.

That's because Pac Man ROM has Google wallet functionality built in. If you read his release notes you would know that. We are talking about the stock ROM here. No sprint store is going to work on a phone with a modded ROM on it.
Stay on topic and read the OP please.

rooting doesn't void your warranty unless they can show rooting is what broke the device. This is protected under the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act of 1975, the same law that states aftermarket auto parts don't automatically break warranty status on your car

I don't believe Wallet will work on any AOSP ROM. AFAIK, the NFC/SE drivers are proprietary, and thus unavailable.

Heard from several people that this worked for them. Of course I would never go through this much trouble but some people really want to use gwallet which I don't blame them since I live using it and wish more places accepted it or had the equipment for it.

Has anyone seen this or tried it? I'm a bit of a Noob when it comes to this so I don't know if I want to test it but thought I'd post to see if anyone knows about it. If it works for Nexus should work for us right
Geez Brain what do you want to do tonight? Same thing we do every night Pinky making the freshest ROM!

It won't come to the SGH-T989 unless there is a maintainer that steps forward to help manage it. I'm considering picking this phone up or the 4G Amaze. I haven't decided. If I pick this one up, I'll work on deving and porting CM9 for it and work on being a maintainer. But alas, this comes down to my contract on my Vibrant lol

I';m guessing we might get a ICS by summer because a lot of people have skyrockets.
Cyanogenmod said its "in the oven" for skyrocket and 989 but well behind the other devices they are working on. Mainly due to their build computers getting upgraded. They said a couple weeks and they will be back full speed. Full speed on our devices? Maybe not yet but its coming eventually.

You guys are sure in a hurry for s broken os no ics works perfectly except for the galaxy nexus and nexus s. Which still have major bugs why google put updates on hold. All other devices still have major or bugs. All you guys do here is cry that older devices have it before our device. The longer time you have to develop and work with something. The farther the development team has already have gone.
CM team doesn't not want to be responsible for you not being able to call 911 incase of emergency. Guess what the alpha cm7. People can't hear each other. Unless you have gps on. Which doesn't work all the time. That's a really big major issue. Don't you think?
I mean you can learn how to develop and make your own cm7. But oh wait good luck with that because Qualcomm have their hardware data sheets closed off to the general public. That means even cm team doesn't have access to them. They are waiting for samsung because these are proprietary driver which means even samsung has to wait on Qualcomm.
If you go get a new device you will. Have to wait till source code is released regardless. For the new processors. What's that you will be waiting again for cm yep. While older devices will be running CM9? Yes that's right! Unless source is released.

I don't think that is correct information. The Galaxy S has issues because it was brought over with very little testing, fixes have been pushed to it.
The GNexus is no longer considered a Google device because of the issues with Verizon. It will no longer get updates from Google, only the carrier. Any bugs that have yet to be fixed already will get a update some day. Thats why all the GNexus people are frustrated with Verizon.
GNexus has already been sent to the FCC for approval for Sprint and that one will be the official Google phone.

I believe you are partially correct. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as it is right now there are two versions of the Nexus: CDMA(Verizon) and GSM. So yes, the Verizon version is no longer supported, but the GSM one still is. That would mean the Sprint version and the GSM version are Google phones.

You would think Google would...
You would think Google would include a utility that would reinitialize the secure element when needed. Nothing to access the contents but just erase everything and format it like new. But, it would probably leave an open door for access somehow.
So no one who rooted get the money yet? That was one of the main reasons I bought this phone was so that I could get the extra $50. I don't want to lose it just because I flashed a ROM.

I guess they wouldn't consider it "secure" then lol.
The secure element contains a bunch of unique keys tied to your MEID that are used to facilitate secure communication with the servers. If you wiped its contents, you'd lose those keys and you thus access to google wallet.
The secure element has countermeasures that are designed to prevent somebody from stealing those keys and therefore being able to steal your money. If the secure element detects tampering, it destroys itself to protect that information.

[ROM][Blended] GB Rocket - GS2ET - Abridged version

Hi fellow XDAers,
It have been picking the best of both working Droid roms that has come down lately from Sprint to get phone in working order.. Instead of working from ICS backwards, I've worked GB forwards on the main parts... Forgive the choppy sentences... Not enough coffee yet lol
1. Odin'd back to EL29 OTA proper and rooted. Which rebooted.
2. Odin'd the FF18 modem. Rebooted.
3. Re installed a few utilities - ghost commander, quick reboot, Ti (to pull zipped apk's of the better parts of ff18 and email them to my laptop. whet I plan to integrate them. Also planning to do the same once I get the GB portion s downloaded)
4. Integrate into new ICS or JB stock ota
So far got 1 & 2 completed. Running to the hospital for a bit to visit my mom and then have to do some house work (a woman's work is never done.... I hate cleaning! lol)
Then back to my geekdom (for world domination (j/k))
And see if I can make headway on next items..
Screen print attached.
EDIT: speed test, battery shots jusy attached

@ rocket. Thanks for the hard work. I try every room out there and tweaks and rarely comment but this people taking trash here should stay away. Once your work is available if they don't like it then just move asking, I never talk trash on their treads even when some roms out there should only be themes. Your project is actual development and not just changing colors. Really hoping to see this working soon.

Actually, I think the OP is running an EL29 rom with all the apps she wants in the ROM, and then will wait for official OTA ICS/JB update, and then release that as her rom....?
Thats how I understood it. Not really development, but hey, I'm not a MOD....

No, i'm not releasing it as my own ROM... That would be illegal, now wouldn't it... Please read the entire thread. I am reverse envineering it to make it work with what was stable in GB EL29. And thought I would share to be kind to the other SSGS2ET owners who just got screwed by sprints preemptive release of ICS 4.0.4.
If a Mod want to change the title and remove the word ROM that's fine by me.
I'm just trying to give a hand.

Thank you!! See there is a voltage issue that keeps turning off 4G when on wifi... There's also a runaway program that i'm still trying to find and change the timing on so it doesn't use up the battery and there is also something that prevents reattachment to Ti for one thing and that its goggles fault for changing the key with every install... Most apps can handle it but there are slot that don't recognize the phone and creates a problem especially if you've paid for it... its the guts basically that is causing the problem sort of like crossed wires throwing voltage.
Hope this helps, and when I get a chance, I will write a proper dissertation for those that don't unbend and insist on flaming me.

This argument should really be handled with PM's, not in somebody else's thread. I try my best not to get in the middle of things, but this is getting ridiculous. If you don't agree that it's development then report the thread and let the mods decide, don't attack the OP's spelling and time with XDA.
My Wicked Sensations rom is one of the roms that people are referring to as more of a theme and not development and I agree with them. But every phone section has themed roms just like this section. I don't consider myself a developer, and I have stated that on many occasions. I just try to share something that I like with others. But I do respect everyone else's work and don't insult it. If I don't like it, I move on.
So please respect somebody else's thread and don't trash it up this way.
I've cleaned this thread. However, it will remain closed for now. "Placeholder" threads are not allowed. As you probably seen why. Once a download link is provided and verified, then it will be opened.
Until then, I'm serious about what I said when I talk about it spilling over. Vacations will be handed out (again) if it continues. I don't care who you are, how many times you have pm'd me, how cool you think "you and me" are. Rules are rules.

NO ICS OTA Update

I've been patiently waiting to get ICS updated since it was officially announced two weeks ago..and still hadn't received the OTA update. Then after looking at some forums...there was talk about how Sprint/Samsung suspending it...due to various issues being report...I'm kinda glad i didn't get it...but still was wondering when it would arrive to my phone. So I started looking at various sites for some indication that the OTA was really suspended.
But there was never any official announcement..from either companies. So Today, I let my impatience get the best of my without knowing about Sprint announcement today about fixing the known issues and re-pushing OTA update...I called Sprint tech support...they had me do the normal stuff ("Update Firmware, Update PRL, Update Profile, Update Android") and still nothing even though they said they would force the update to my phone...well....I still don't have the update...the tech suggested taking it to the sprint store to have them do a manual update.
The tech put me on hold to consult with another higher level tech and came back with "The OTA is being pushed in waves and that I would eventually get it". I proceed to ask if she knew roughly the timeframe and she indicated that its based on ESN number but she couldn't tell me when it would be pushed to my phone.
I even asked if she knew about Sprint suspending the OTA due to bugs and she indicated that she had nothing in her alerts/records that indicated such...so today hours later I finally see the posting on various sites indicating that there was a suspension of the OTA, Sprint fixing those issues and now re-pushing the update again.....however I still have no update yet.
Anyone still waiting on the update? When do are phones check-in for updates? I'm curious to know what's going on...considering do a factory wipe but not sure if its worth doing? I keep my phone very clean "Stock"
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
They did suspend it due to the Swype force close that many users reported to them which appears to be fixed in the 7/31 re-release of FF18.
Unfortunately all the other issues people are having (high battery drain, WiFi will not connect after sleep, etc) have not been addressed.

Well the firmware update button is not what you think it is anyways. I can never remember which button is which off the top of my head but one of them is NOT for the OTA update.
RainMotorsports said:
The update should not install directly over EG30 OTA? Each update zip is a patch to the last OTA. Did your update message actually say FF18 or did it just tell you you have an update. It should want to do EK02 and then EL29 before letting you do FF18. I could be wrong but we have never been leaked an update zip that was for anything other than the last OTA and then the full tar of course for service.

I still have yet to receive the OTA update...is there way to force your phone to check for any updates.
On some phones such as the Nexsus 4G you can enter *#*#2432546#*#* in the phone dialer and your phone will actually do a checkin to the OTA servers and pull down any update OTA updates.
I've tried this on the Epic 4G Touch and doesn't worked.

Hi!
I got a galaxy nexus from my boyfriend like 2 months ago and I really didnt used it, i was happy with my iphone, this week I started using it and I liked it more and made it my main phone.
I was reading some forum and it said that the actual version for the GN is JB4.1.1 or at least what most ppl have.. I tryed to check for system updates and it says my phone is up to date. I've tryed a trick that i readed in this forum that if i close some app and use some number to force update it will update, didnt work
About phone shows this:
Model Number: Galaxy Nexus
Android Version: 4.0.4
Baseband Version: I9250XXLA2
Kernel Version: 3.0.8-gda6252b [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 13 11:35:09 PDT 2012
Build Number: IMM76K.I9250XWLD2
Aparently as i read my phone is from europe, =/ why I have an europe phone if im not there is a mistery
Anyways, I tryed to use search but wow this forum have so much info and is really confused to a person who is really new and not very familiar with android, if someone can tell me at least how to start, will be helpfull
thanks

Well, I think it tells you which version you got in bootloader, but since you got it from Europe, I'm pretty sure it's not yakju or takju
The chances of damaging your phone is really low. It's barely there if you follow his instructions properly. I did this 2 times with no problem (One for myself and one for my friend)
One thing you need to know is that if you don't have the bootloader unlocked, you need to unlock it, which wipes the WHOLE data on your phone and voids your warranty (You can get your warranty back simply by re-locking it.)

Assuming you don't have 4.1 I'm guessing your Vzw. The only way to get it is root, it's really simple and I recommend Jabukabu's method which uses ADB to root.

I know there are variants but I have no idea what these yakju things are? Why are there so many terms? Just say vzw, Sprint, and not sure about the other carriers name. This is why don't like variants, I like exclusive phones.
