So I bought one of these cable thinking it would work with my Nexus but it doesnt. The Micro usb plug seems to be to long and doesnt actually touch the pins. Do you guys know if other such cables for the s3 work with the nexus or is there a specific one for the Nexus??
Thank you.

I've heard that the Nexus supports MHL, but looking at the images of the Nexus it appears to, at least physically, look like a standard Micro USB connection.
this is the cable that comes with the Rezound:

As you can see, the end that plugs in to the phone is different. i personally like it as it's a very secure cable and doesn't "wiggle" at all if you're moving the phone around while it's plugged in.
So, does anyone know if you can use that same cable in the Nexus?
The Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2 both use microUSB-B ports. That cable looks like it uses either microUSB-A or something non-standard to me.
That's an ExtMicro-USB cable, it has nothing to do with MHL. It'll only work with HTC's ExtMicro-USB devices.
Anyone know if a MICRO USB to FEMALE USB cables are available? I posted a link below of what Im talking about but it is a MINI USB to female (example)
I'm trying to hook up a keyboard and a mouse to my galaxy nexus so im looking for a splitter that has 2 FEMALE usb ends
http://www.staples.com/Staples-4-Po...:Cables_Hubs_Adapters_&_Switches:715440:36302
I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking of making my own dock and having this apart of it would be pretty sweet.
i know im trying to find something like that. I was able to use an OTG Host Cable and i plugged my logitech wireless transmitter to it for my mouse and it worked on my Nexus it was sweet so i started thinking what if I can find a cable with 2 female ends so I can hook up a transmitter for a keyboard and one for the mouse.
Very interesting!!!
Motorola makes a micro USB to female USB. They sell it as an accessory to the Zoom. Use that with a USB hub.

You can find micro usb to mini usb adapters on ebay. ($0.99)
They are mini usb (female) to micro usb (male).
Connect them to your mini usb cables/devices and make them

Look for OTG (on the go) cables, like these:

I am typing this on my Logitech DiNovo Edge keyboard. It is a bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. I use it for my theater PC/seedbox/home server.
I paired it to my GNex and everything works great, mouse and keyboard!
It is a little expensive, but no wires, and its a gorgeous piece of hardware.

Also it will leave the port open on the phone, so you can connect to your
TV. Really looking forward to Ubuntu's news today!

Thanks for that it looks really good and you're right I would still have an open port so i'll probably use an MHL adaptor that can charge at the same time.

Thats looks good. now I just gotta find a mini usb to full usb in a Y cable with two full usb ends so I can hook up usb devices to it.
or a Y cable that has two mini usb female ends and the other one would be male mini usb
I'd second the USB hub idea. I've got a small 4-port hub with a memory card reader built in that I connect via an OTG cable. The side benefit is that it's a powered hub so I can connect an external battery or AC adapter to it so USB devices will pull power from it instead of the phone. It's really not much bulkier than some weird multi-headed cable solution and when I only need one device (which is most of the time) the compact OTG cable works fine.
FYI, I don't think you can split the USB to support HDMI on one side and USB on the other, to my knowledge the chip in the phone only supports one at a time. Once HDMI is enabled you need to look at Bluetooth devices.
yea makes sense for the hub. I was just trying to avoid using bluetooth because Im sure the HDMI would draw power to push to screen but then again it would be plugged into the side for AC. I think that bluetooth keyboard mentioned earlier sounds like a good idea. It's got a mouse pad and keyboard all in one.

It actually works really well. I highly recommend it.
Also like someone said I don't think it would be possible to push HD video a keyboard and a mouse all through a hub.

Ive since moved on from the atrix but kept the lapdock to see if i can use it for a hdmi monitor and charger. I now have the galaxy nexus and wanted try and use the lapdock with it. Im going to order the MHL adapter for the galaxy nexus to connect to the lapdock's hdmi with a female micro hdmi adapter. Ive read that the lapdock can receive HDMI input from other sources besides the atrix but will the lapdock accept HDMI source from a MHL adapter. Another problem is that in order for the Samsung MHL adapter to work it needs to be plugged in to a micro usb power source. I need to be able to use the micro usb from the lapdock if i want this set up to be portable.
i bought a micro usb extension and tried that but it doesnt charge galaxy nexus or Optimus P500. Unfortunately i sold my atrix before i got the cable so i cant test it with that but the micro usb extension charges all my phones fine when plugged into an AC adapter. So is it possible to mod the lapdock or micro hdmi cable to charge my other phones?
I can't speak for different phones made by different manufacturers (samsung, etc), but the atrix lapdock can be modified to work with other motorola weptop enabled phones. I am typing this on an atrix lapdock plugged into my Droid 4. I had to modify it when i bought it in order for it to work, but it was a simple 10 min job and it has been working well!
All I had to do was unscrew the cover of the hdmi/microusb ports, and flip over the connectors that were upside down for my use, and put it back together. A bit of shaving the plastic in the corners was necessary, but was not difficult. I am a happy user since this keyboard is a bit larger than the lapdock 100, and it was cheaper on craigslist than a lapdock 100.
Now I just need to see if anybody has managed to find any happy ways to hack/modify the atrix lapdock for greater functionality, like multitouch or scroll areas. If you have happened to see someone getting this to work, please do tell!

no need to mod!!! there are two powered usb ports on the back of the unit. when it senses hdmi, it turns on the usb ports and you can charge or power your usb device assuming 500ma is enough. not sure what it outputs, but it does charge a phone.
Where i can buy the lapdock charger?

does it matter if you are looking for an hdmi to mhl coverter cable and it says for s2.......does it matter or does it have to specify s3? Or will it work no matter phone as long as cable connects to phone?
The MHL adapter is specific to the S3 as the pinout changed in the micro usb port on the phone.

To add what he said, Standard MHL adapters work with all phones that support MHL accept the GS3. The GS3 requires a special MHL adapter for the GS3 OR an adapter to go from their 11 pin micro usb to 5 pin micro usb for standard MHL adapters.
Basically the GS3 has an 11 pin micro usb port thus making the industry standard MHL adapter useless.
Thank You Samsung. LOL

will any mhl adapter work? or does it need to be a specific mhl adapter for samsung note 8?
I'm currently using the MHL adapter for S3 and Snote 2 for my Note 8 and works flawlessly. I think in order to works best, you need to plug in with the power adapter too which is a faeture of Samsung's MHL adapters
the power adapter?

Every mhl adapter requires you to plug your charger and micro usb cable into the adapter to provide power to the phone while using the mhl adapter. You have to make sure you purchase an mhl adapter that is compatible with Samsung devices. Samsung uses an 11 pin micro usb/mhl port where as HTC only had a 5 pin. My mhl adapter that I used with all my HTC phones will not work with my Samsung devices.

That is not what you need, that is to convert a non-samsung mhl adapter to work with a Samsung phone or tablet. Just search for Samsung mhl and look for one that says it works with a Galaxy s4 or s3 and it will work with the note 8.

Sorry to revive an old thread. I am in the position of looking for an MHL adapter for my Note 8. Can you share the exact model of the one that you have? I would very much appreciate that.
Thanks.
