Hi everyone!
I will be purchasing a Kindle Fire for my friend on Christmas, and wanted to become further informed regarding custom ROMs on the Kindle Fire.
Specifically, the newer Kindle Fire 2nd Generation, which was available at a lowered price for a day on amazon. (upgraded 1GB RAM, 1.2GHz, running Amazon OS over android 4.0 vs. older gen which ran on 2.3, with only 512MB RAM and 1Ghz processor)
There are currently no custom android ROMs for this new model Kindle Fire, but there are masses of ROMs for the first Kindle Fire.
Would it be possible for myself to modify a Kindle Fire AOSP-based rom for the new Kindle Fire? (unoficcial CM10, Jelly Bean ROM tablet optimized, etc.)
They have very few hardware differences, perhaps I could implement the new additions into the source code and attempt to run?
I would like to know if this idea is feasible for a person with little android developing knowledge, or if it would be only for higher-level devs.
Thanks!

Did anyone ever get the bootloaders on the new Kindle Fires unlocked so we could boot an alternate kernel yet? (I know Hashcode was working on it but I haven't been keeping up)
Still locked, making the second generation a white elephant.

Isn't this the wrong forum to post this? First of all, the title says Kindle Fire 2 (misleading), second, this is a question.
this "question" belongs in the Q&A section not development...

Kindle fire, kindle fire 2, kindle fire hd. I know the HD is different by screen resolution but what is the difference between the original kindle fire and the kindle fire 2?

The Kindle fire had 512 MB of memory, a 1ghz dual core processor and ran a custom version of Gingerbread 2.3. Firmware versions start with 6.
The Kindle Fire 2 had 1GB or memory, a 1.2ghz dual core processor and a custom version of Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. It was said to be up to 40% faster. Firmware versions start with 10.
Roms and tools are generally not interchangeable, so you ate always best looking in your devices specific forum.

I like kindle fire very much, simple and easy to use. The problem is the HD 8.9" screen is still a little smaller, will amazone consider a bigger screen for the next generation?
I am considering Apple ipad 2 or kindle fire HD 8.9, has very limited budget. If the kindle fire next generation release soon, maybe HD price will drop some. Any idea?
Your on the wrong forum. This is for Amazon Kindle Fire 1st Gen. Search for the Kindle Fire HD forums. And to answer your question I don't know, but a 10 in. screen wouldn't be bad.

Hi,
They do not sell fire TV on amazon.
So what's the next generation device to replace fire TV ?
Hello! Last year i bought fire tv stick for 10€ of ebay. The remote was second gen so I assumed it was second generation. Although it turned out it's just first generation with remote from second generation. It's laggy as ****. Is there any custom rom or something that i can do so it runs normally? Thanks
