I got my T999 (Blue 16gb, latest CM10.1 nightly) in July and noticed it had a weird issue with the font having extra pieces added to it, this was using TouchWiz. I figured it must be an issue with TW. I rooted and put CM10 on it and it was still there, and its still there with CM10.1 Also when playing videos using HBOGO, MAXGO, and MX Player (streaming videos via the TV Portal app) I have horrible video quality, it looks like the video isn't being decoded correctly. My dad has the same phone as me, but running stock and has the same issues with video as me. Has anyone had the same problem with video or with the font, if so what did you do to fix it? I really don't want to have to deal with support of having to get a new device and restore this one to factory settings, as well as resetting the flash counter. I've included some screen shots of my problems.
You should try to flash to a stock rom or Odin a factory image back to the phone. That way you can tell if it is a software issue or hardware. Remember to wipe data/ clear cache/ clear davik cache/ and fix permission too for good measure.

Just did an Odin factory image as well as clearing everything and fixing permissions. The issues are still there.
Then it looks to be hardware defects. No choice but to do an exchange.

Wow had mine for 6 months. Started lagging real bad a few weeks aho. Rexently started getting glicrhy just on the homescreen not even playing video. Also having data and wifi connectivity. Pretty pissed I even spent money on this for it to be this glitchy. Going to do a warranty exchange or see if thwy can offer me something else.

Hey everyone,
When I go to use facebook via the stock browser, it brings up the old Mobile Facebook UI. This has only started happening recently, after installing ProxyDroid and activating it for the first time over my university's network. When I was simply rooted and had AdAway activated the current Mobile Facebook UI (that's similar to the Facebook app) would be displayed.
Why is this? Nothing's really changed. Is there any fix for this? Googling gets me nothing.
It started for me today too. I'd rather use the mobile site because the app sucks and is a huge battery hog.

I was speaking to a friend of mine, and he has said that despite uninstalling ProxyDroid, it may still be messing with the Nexus' proxy settings. So I'm going to install it again and clear all the settings. If that doesn't fix it, I'm considering going in and removing any trace of ProxyDroid from root (or just in the Android folder over ADB).
If it's an issue with Facebook though, well... That sucks.

I just had to clear the stock browser's cookies and cache a few times. Not sure why didn't fix it the first time. Oh well.

Thanks for that mate ... I was having the same issue on my Galaxy S2, didn't know why it was happening but it just suddenly started doing it. I thought it may have been 'cos I had recently flashed a new rom. So I flashed back to stock but that didn't fix it.
I then came across this thread of yours and did as you did, cleared cache and cookies a few times and it seems to have fixed it
thanks again.

Worked for me. Damn that mobile site is a killer. I actually installed friendcaster because of it ! LOL

It reverted to the old UI for me again after updating to IMM76I. Wiping cache and cookies did nothing, so I went into CWM and wiped my cache and dalvik cache. That fixed it.
Hey folks,
Is anyone else noticing fairly frequent FC'ing of apps in JB? Generally when closing them or something?
Some issues are to be expected, just wondered if anyone else is experiencing it.
Using the stock bootloader, radio image too.
Before install I cleared caches + davlik too.
Everyone's having FC issues with JB.
It's a new version of Android, you should expect that. The apps just need to catch up to it.

I half expected it, just wanted to make sure I wasn't alone. It doesn't happen often enough to be a great concern.
No...no.
Not everyone is.
I never did. And I ran it for three days...with heavy use.
You should really be wiping data as well, my friend.
This would probably be why you're seeing FC's.

I did.
I wiped cache, factory reset / data and the davlik cache in CWM before I even installed the rom. There is nothing else I could have wiped. lol

OP led me to believe you only wiped cache.
My apologies.
I have flashed like three JB roms within the past week and a half, and have used each of them heavily. I don't think I have seen that force close pop-up yet. So yes, not everyone has these problems, and fully wiping is a great thing. I always: wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, format system, format data, flash SuperWiteLite, then flash my rom (exactly in that order) and have never had a single problem with JB in general.
I've only had one app force close.
if you're having multiple apps force close, it may help if you fix permissions.

I'm only getting FC's on the twitter app.
That explains it. Twitter and Facebook app. Those are the two I've noticed it on. Nothing else.

Specific apps just aren't playing well with JB. There isn't even a full 4.1 SDK yet. Give it some time. Gotta remember there's no official JB updates yet, so you can't really expect apps to be updated for it.
I expected issues. What I am looking for is confirmation from other users of these crashes and that it isn't just my handset.

My battery had been better lately, but today it seems pretty bad. I checked my battery and it says "media server" is taking up the vast majority at 48%. Screen is next at 13%. What exactly does media server encompass?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
For some reason it seems like the process that scans the ohone and sd for media files gets hung up. Not really sure why though. Haven't had it happen in a while so its hard to investigate.
Try wiping dalvik and cache on media server in app management.
If that doesn't help, nandroid backup, then wipe cache, dalvik and fix permissions in recovery.
If that fails to fix then try copying all your data off the sdcard, reformat and tgen out your data back on.
In dev options tick show cpu usage and you'll probably seed that media scanner process at the top.

Thanks for the reply. I looked and can't see options to do that. I'm assuming it's because my phone is still stock. The only things I've done to it are the update and running Nova Launcher. I'm not rooted, I haven't gotten the courage to do that yet, although I think I'm pretty close to deciding to do it.
It's not going to find many media files...I delete photos after they're uploaded to G+ and I don't even have any music stored on it, I use Google Music for that.
Will rooting my phone and deleting all the media hub and allshare junk fix this problem? It hasn't happened to me before, but today it wasn't getting used much, that's why the battery drain really surprised me.

You should be able to still clear data/cache on media server. Settings > App Manager > All tab
Find media server and you should be able to do it there.
You don't need lots of files to have the process hang up. It could be looking for a folder that's not there, or any number of things. That's why I suggested formatting your sdcard and see if it still happens. Otherwise since you're not rooted your only two other options I can think of are factory resetting, or odin flashing the stock FW. (Btw if you do that you may as well use MrRobinsons root66 fw. Then you'll get root at the same time! Very easy and safe to do)
If you want, get aLogcat from the market and run it, and save the logfile. Post it here if you like and me or someone might be able to find a clue as to what's happening. If you do this, also use the show cpu usage option to verify that the top process is in fact com.media.xxxx or something like that. It'll help to know what to look for in the log.

So I've been fighting with Touchwiz force closing quite often since the JB update. I flashed the full official ROM from Telus, as well as 2 other Telus based ROMS, all suffered from the same problem. The only thread I found pertaining to a similar issue is HERE.
Issue:
Touchwiz force-closing (stopping), when creating folders, or moving icons on the homescreen (like to delete them or move them to another homescreen).
In a nutshell, myself and 2 friends all have GS3s. 2 of us were having the issue, myself (rooted) and my friend (unrooted, completely stock), where as another friend (rooted) was not having the issue.
After much hair pulling and testing (3 different ROMS, using different computers and cables to flash, having my device flashed by my friend who was not having the issue), I came to the conclusion that Touchwiz was force closing ONLY when the App Drawer was in "Alpahbetical List" view type. When it was in a "grid" view type, there were no issues.
I was wondering if anyone else could do some testing and let me know if I'm on the right track with this.
I ask that you change your App menu to "Alphabetical List", and use it normally for a few hours or days, and let me know if you see any instances of Touchwiz force closing. If I see enough response, I'll start looking into how to place a bug report on this.
Thanks.
Did you wipe/factory reset? You should not be having issues like that if you did.I don't see any of that.

I wiped, factory reset, cleared caches, etc several times, as well as trying 3 different ROMS like I said.
The only way I could fix it was to clear data from Touchwiz Home. But the issue would still come back after a few hours.
So you are on JB, and are using "Alphabetical list" without issues??
Did you back up system and maybe restored the data wipe titanium by accident? If you have a clean install with nothing restored yet does it do this? If not install back all your apps one by one widget by widget to see what is causing this. Could be an app compatible issue. I tried to replicate your issue and could not at all.

Essentially a clean install, nothing installed or restored with titanium, and the issue was there. I think the only apps I had installed were Chrome browser, Go SMS (or Handcent, I tried them both because I thought maybe one of them was causing the issue), and Facebook. Other than that, I was on a stock rom (rooted).
I was just able to re-create the issue by doing the following:
1) Switch app list view type to "Alphabetical list".
2) Go to task manager, do a "Clear memory"
3) Go to homescreen, grab an icon, as if to remove it from home screen, and let it go.
Touchwiz force closes (Unfortunately, TouchWiz Home has stopped). As soon as I set it back to "Alpahbetical grid", everything works as it should.
Note: I do have a folder in the shortcut area on the homescreen (bottom, next to the Apps button), not sure if this makes a difference, but it usually starts when a folder is created...
I was able to recreate this problem on 2 Telus devices, and 1 stock Rogers device, all running JB.
Followed that and I still unable to recreate this. I also have a folder on mine in dock for email with Gmail and email in it. I am at&t though. Even though I am not sure if it matters.

Hmmmm, interesting. I was thinking of perhaps trying an AT&T based ROM (all I've tried were Telus based, and was able to recreate the bug on a friends Rogers device as well...). Maybe it's Canadian devices only? I did notice that it doesn't seem to be a very widespread issue. Although there was a thread about it, there were very few responses...
I'll see about flashing an AT&T ROM, but for the moment, its working properly in grid view, so I'm good with that.
Thanks for the input though!
I'm not able to reproduce this issue on my SGH-I747M (Rogers) running stock (not rooted) Android 4.1.1.
If you factory reset/wipe data on the stock ROM, configure the phone without installing any third-party apps from the Play Store (heck, don't even bother signing in with a Google account initially for this one), then set the app drawer to alphabetical list and attempt to reproduce the issue as per your earlier steps does it still occur? Just curious.

Thanks for trying it out.
I was actually able to reproduce it on my friends stock Rogers 4.1.1 OS.
I was able to reproduce it with a minimal install of third-party apps (mentioned in another post, I think I had Chrome, Go SMS and Facebook installed...).
Perhaps I'll give it a try if I flash a new ROM anytime soon. Right now, my device is working well, and I only figured out it was the List option causing me the problem after installing a bunch of apps and customizing. Don't feel like resetting right now just to try to reproduce it, lol.
Tested on Rogers Stock 4.1.1 root injected, no issues at all here.

I don't have this problem. Do you have Adobe Flash installed? Try disabling that or uninstalling it to see if the browser gets better. Last resort would be to clear thhe data/cache (doing so will erase all your user settings though).
It seems to be hardware related, i instaled browser2ram and now everything is fine

I cleared data too and it didnt help
