Asus Vivo RT recovery files - Windows RT General

Here's the VivoRT recovery files for anyone who wants them.
To get this working you will need to create a recovery drive from Windows RT. It will still create the USB recovery system even if you do not have the recovery partition files on your C drive anymore.
So what you want to do is create the recovery then unzip the files and copy them to the USB replacing the files there.
That's it! You should be able to boot and use the recovery.
http://patcas.tech/share/vivort.zip
Hope that helps. And if it does hit the thanks button.

If anyone has the recovery files for the surface, i can host those too. Just PM me.

thanks. does this mean i can delete the recover files off the tab itself to free up space?

if you want to. I will have these up for at least a year or 2.

Ill pull these down tonight. You are a good man.

Glad i can help. Hope they work for you.

I'll be trying it out later today. Thank you! :good:
It makes no sense why Asus doesn't include it on their website. I understand it's a big file, but they should have a system in place to prove you own the tablet, so you can be allowed to download the restore files.

Thank you very, very much...I misplaced the USB drive where I'd backed up the recovery files, and now the TF600T is acting hinky...

Hi guys! Thank you! Could you explain to me how to use this recovery?

Anyone have a mirror? I started downloading it than it froze, when I tried to restart it I was asked for a UN/PW.

Sweet dreams
I can assume that I cannot install this over my Windows RT surface 32gb, right? That would be too easy to enable me to turn off secure boot and install an open OS, just dreaming...

You are indeed correct that you cannot install this onto a surface. Besides, why would you when there are surface recoveries available?
There is no open OS running on any of the devices so far

Thanks for the reply. I read that the UEFI could be disabled on other versions of this OS, that said I assumed that ASUS said to MS: we want the possibility of disabling this option, like LG and others. Windows, however does not wish this to ever happen until it goes to court and then an "update" will free us from their bloody claws. There is much work on the UEFI site in Linux, but it is stalled waiting for MS to 'approve' and 'sign' the open efi files for the rest of us to be able to use them, but this has been already a year now and I feel it may be a futile effort asking MS to approve to put something better on their devices... they will never to it. They are now worse than Apple in their politics, which is hard for me to believe that I believe, but the truth does not lie.

[Guide][TOOL] FASTBOOTROOT (deprecated)

(DEPRECATED)
I no longer support or care to support this is someone wants to take over and deal with this and the complaints go for it. It has not been tried on the 2.2.2 version of android in case you want to try it.
Tired of all those funky ways of rooting? Wanna just push a button and be rooted?
Guess what I've got something for you.
Introducing FastbootRoot (patent not pending) for the virgin mobile optimus v
FastbootRoot was designed with simplicity in mind. The easy to use ui makes rooting your lg optimus easy and quick without all those adb commands. It takes the guess work out ( is this right, what does he mean by that? ) of rooting your phone.
Features:
flash a custom recovery
this feature only flashes a custom recovery without rooting your phone giving you the ability to back up your current system without root. I put this in here in case of needing to return the phone for warranty matters
flash the entire shebang
This flashes a new boot image, a new system image*, and custom recovery.
Revert to stock
thanks to destundead we now have the stock system image and boot combined with my stock recovery we are good to go
New experimental install windows xp fastboot drivers
My goal is to fully automate this process and to make this as painless as possible for the new users. This new feature is untested and will either work or it won't. Give me some feedback if it does or doesn't.
--------------------------How to Use--------------------------
Download fastbootroot from here and place it on your desktop.
Download the usb drivers from here
On your phone turn on usb debugging by pushing menu, then settings, then applications, then development, and then usb debugging.
Install the drivers ( I find that rebooting after the drivers have been installed will install a whole new set of drivers. I recommend this method)
unzip fastbootroot and inside double click the fastbootroot file. Make your selection and your done.
Here's a video on using it and a little explanation
watch it here
WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS:
no need to install usb drivers
Enjoy this and remember this works fully on windows 7 and I tested it myself. No matter what there's always room for user error though in which case I take no responsibility if things go wrong.
PROBLEMS AND COMPLAINTS
Some people are reporting problems like drivers not installing or other things. First off if you have a problem you need to state exactly what operating system you are using (windows 7, windows vista, or windows xp).
This only works with the virgin mobile optimus v. Make sure you have the virgin mobile optimus v (not a optimus t, m or a picture of the v pasted on top of a w490)
Tell me what you did exactly don't lie. I know from experience when someone says, 'I did this I definitely didn't do that', whether or not they are holding something back. The more info you can give the better if your holding something back that's gonna delay the process.
This is free. I ask for donations but they aren't required at all. So when your asking for more things remember this is free.
Like my work donate to me herehttps://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=FEP8NQ8J49MX8
*the new system image is stock with root, flash_image and busybox installed

yep the only thing that you gotta do is download fastbootroot and the lg drivers. It will take care of everything else for you. I will say that I've tested this and my earlier variant of it quite a few times. I even made a video for the other one.
Downloading this now. will give it a try. Thanks!

Hello? Please someone be there who can help me!
The detection sequence you describe did not work, Windows is not finding the drivers properly. Is it safe to reboot the machine while in fastboot? Can I unplug the USB without bricking my phone?

I removed the battery and the phone restarted without issues. Not sure why things did not go the way they're supposed to--could it be because I had the drivers from the ROMTOOLS package installed before? NOTE: Prior to trying this procedure I uninstalled all of those and rebooted before installing the drivers linked here.
Another thought, OP says he is running Windows Seven; I am on Windows XP. Could this have anything to do with my trouble?
--bornagainpenguin
UPDATE: I tried installing the drivers included with the ROMTOOLS package and my phone was recognized again. No luck when trying to run fastboot. Not sure why this is happening or why I am unable to use the drivers OP linked to. They seem to install when clicked but the system doesn't seem to think the drivers apply to this phone for some reason...
Okay what happened was your fastboot drivers didn't install correctly I'm in the process of uploading a video to show you how to install the fastboot drivers.
I wrote this while before your last post yes there is a problem with windows xp. It doesn't download them like it would on windows 7. I can test all day long on windows 7 but not on xp. The method in the video should work for xp users

I appreciate the effort, but unless the video is closed captioned it may not do me much good. I am hard of hearing (one of the reasons why I picked this phone was its high T4 rating which works well with my hearing aids and telecoil adapter --think headphones for hard of hearing people) so cannot always hear audio on videos very good.

I've integrated the fastboot drivers into the next release for windows xp I need a beta tester before I release this.
Does this just root our existing system, or does it install a whole new rooted image (requiring us to reinstall all of our programs and settings)?
I have XP, by the way. If it just roots, I would be willing to beta test (but if it doesn't work, if it doesn't work, I want to be able to get back to where I was as my phone works well).
This is F*****KIN GREAT!!!! Thanks!!
I'm having bootloop issues and I see a post here which suggests that one way to fix the situation is with fastboot. Do you know if fastboot can help me? If so, how?

[Q] What should I do to restore my Nexus 7 (2013) to work on which I tried to root?

Hello,
I tried to root my new Nexus 7 (2013). I am not able to post the link of the tutorial which I followed (from androidrootz). I tried contacting the author of that tutorial - he did try his best but was not able to change the state.
When about to complete the entire process, close to the finish - I am not able to get inside the "Recovery Mode" to install Super User SU. i.e. When I press recovery mode in the bootloader I get the Google logo and it stays there till battery runs out.
Now when I start the tablet normally, I get the Google logo and the nexus logo. Then nexus logo stays there till the battery runs out.
I am a developer and I kinda need the tablet to run. My main purpose of rooting the tablet is to use certain admin feature and install a custom ROM.
If I could straighten up my tablet to work the way it does - that would really great. I am not bothered about the loss of data at all.
I could use both Windows and Mac to get things in order. At this moment I am not sure what the problem is nor do I know what to do.
If someone could guide me thro' to get the tablet up and running the normal, I highly appreciate it.
Thank you and regards,
Karsnen.

So I'm using a Mac OSX 10.8.4, and the new Nexus 7 (2013) version. I unlocked my bootloader, but I cannot get it into recovery mode, and I'm a little nervous. Can any of you point me to an extremely thorough guide on how to both fix my current issues, and then properly Unlock, Recovery, Root, and Flash Custom ROMs to this tablet?

Are the commands the same in terminal, or should I run windows in a VM to use the command line?
The only cmd in that post is flash-all
It is the same. Get into the directory and enter flash-all when you have to, in the terminal.
When I'm in the VM in windows, I go to the directory, but then it says "flash-all" is not a valid command. What am I doing wrong? It won't work in Terminal either. Can you please walk me through it. I feel so stupid as is, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

ok so heres what happened. forgot my phone was rooted. i tried tmobile ota update. kicked me out into twrp. i messed aroun and bascily now i have no os or anything. i accidentally formatted everything in the phone. its the white 32gb tmobile version if that matters. to make things worse, i use ubuntu 14.04 LTS. no windows. cant even figure out how to get windows on the pc. and no i cant go buy it. noodle budget. i also messed with the fat32 thing and it said unable to make fat32 partition. basicly. its screwed. i need to know what to do about this. i have the lg flash tool, the original .dll and .tot ready to go. but theres the linux thing. everytime i try to connect it to the computer in download mode it said could not mount adroid device or something like that, now it wont even come on for me. i dont know what to do about this. no i couldnt get adb sideload to start, i couldnt mount in download mode, i could get adb to recognise the device but thats about it. i pushed a couple roms to it but nadda. after installing succesfully it just went right back to twrp. i need a video or something that i can slightly understand on how to fix this.
Your best bet is to set up a virtual box and virtualize it. I guess in twrp if you can still get access to it. Is to wipe system and all that fun stuff so it can reformat it to ext4 then try to adb sideload the rom that matches the update as close as possible. The only thing I can think of is that the update messed up partitions so when you flash a rom it can't all fit like it used too.
Sorry if I didnt help I'm just trying my method I had to do when I had my g2

From what I've seen on the G+ community, you can install it but it will only function as a viewer on devices over 10". Because of that I have not bothered with it, but I will look and see what I can find out for you.
EDIT: It installed fine for me, but it does function only as a viewer with an Office 365 subscription. To install, I just opened the Google + app. Went to the Microsoft Office for Android Tablets group. You will need to join it if you haven't already. Once you have accessed the group, click the drop down on the header and follow the links in the instructions to become a tester and install the apps.

I have read it somewhere that it is only for the tablet with a size of 7 inch to 10 inch. So you have to wait till ms comes up a new version for all kinda devices.
I just downloaded Word, Excel, and Powerpoint from the Play Store and it runs great on the Note Pro. I have a valid Office365 Subscription and I must say it's actually much better than the Hancom suite that's on the tablet.
tdetroit, can you save a file to the SD card with those programs? I'm having a heck of a time trying to save a file using hancon or office suite 8. Both of those can not save to the SD card because of kitKat. Office Suite doesn't even save back to Dropbox and once you open a file that was on a SD card it seems impossible to save it anywhere. Until this problem is fixed, we can never use this tablet for real work stuff.

Sure you can. If you are rooted install xsposed and there is a module you can download and enable to allow full access to the ext sd. . The is also a guide here that can show you how to go into the build.prop and edit some stuff to fix. However i didnt have luck with that like others but the module works like a charm and i can save to external with all my apps on kit kat
I m xsposed download just search kit kat external and you should find it. .or kitkat sdcard

Would you mind giving some advice as I have the same model as you p900,have read some tutorials, some say you have to select files for the exact same compile version you have, others that its enough by selecting the model type, and have read that once you root you can start having blue screens.
You can be cautious and still brick this device. Still scared here.

Would you mind giving some advice as I have the same model as you p900,have read some tutorials, some say you have to select files for the exact same compile version you have, others that its enough by selecting the model type, and have read that once you root you can start having blue screens.

It's been a year since I rooted and when I did so I just followed the CF-Autoroot thread to do it. I'd have to completely wipe my tablet and start from scratch to give a better guide than that. Whichever way you go, as long as you're following a root method that someone specifically wrote for your variant you should be fine.
Often where I've seen people get into trouble is flashing entire images of systems onto their devices that were meant for another variation of the device. In those cases if the system files are different it can cause instabilities and whats worse is if the partitions are different causing the device to soft brick.
When Lollipop comes out for the SM-P900 I'm guessing guides will get updated to reflect root methods more clearly for it. I'll likely full wipe my tablet at that point and try to document the process.
As for the blue screen issues, I can't say what's going on with that . . I've never seen it on my device. I've had random crashes when I didn't completely disable Knox but once I did that I was golden . .

Got so much to research then about disabling knox and rooting, looking forward for your guide when lollipop comes out.

is there any way to root without twrp?

Yes, it's me again. Yes, I have written about this already. Yes, still the same problem.
So, as some of you may know, I have a huge problem with flashing TWRP. No matter how hard I try, no matter what my pc OS is, I get this problem every time, when I try to move from official MIUI to any other ROM.
At this time I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but it gets to the same point as on Windows. I reboot to bootloader via ADB, my device is on fastboot devices list, and when I enter 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' or 'sudo fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' - nothing happenes. Terminal is like frozen, there is no information what's going on (no sending recovery). When I had Windows, I used to reset (to be clear - format) my PC, and then it worked for some time. Theoritically I could do the same with Ubuntu, but hey guys, I think we can all agree that it shouldn't work like that, should it? Right now, the only way for me is to root my phone first, then it would be easy. But guess what! Root requiers TWRP, TWRP requiers root. Annoying LOOP.
I'd be really thankfull if someone answered this thread, even wrong, trying is what counts, right?
Download TWRP app and try flashing using the app. Never tested it. Your best bet run window simulator on PC or go library or use someone's computer. Takes like 1 min to root. I have bricked my phone million times already, piece of cake to bring it back to life.

Sounds good. Very easy once you have it setup. Keep in mind you have to reinstall TWRP and root every time you update MiUi OS. For me the global update is like every Friday so I have to reinstall TWRP and Root every week.

After some time, I gave up. Last hope was to try one more time on my brother's PC, and luckly - it worked. Everything ended good for me, but I still don't get it why sometimes my PC decides to go along and work with me and sometimes it just doesn't care. I am aware that flashing official MIUI wipes custom recovery, that's why I usually don't come back to it from any other custom ROM. Anyway, I'm really thankful for your help Asheque, thanks for all advices, and I think one day I will come back exactly to this thread and read them again. Appreciate it!

I am glad it worked out Make sure you install Magisk apk and flash Magisk.zip for root access and pass safetynet if you want to use Google Pay. Also, highly recommend you download GBoard Theme module from Magisk. It's the best, makes Google Keyboard freaking awesom.
