Has anyone got this to work?
I uninstalled Wifi tether and used the built in hotspot. Worked fine after a reboot.
Oh boy, you posted this in the wrong place
What about the carrier check?
Yup, the wrath of khan is about to come down on this misplaced thread

The built-in tethering works fine for me. I guess since Verizon hasn't touched this ROM the hotspot works as Google intended.

Same question here because I will use it but I don't want to be charged for it and I have never tried using it in the past so I don't know if you get prompted or not if you use it.

You have to sign up for hot spot to be able to use it. If you haven't added this to plan, it won't work. Therefore, its free.

I have tried using the built in hotspot, and my iPod seems to connect to it (puts a check mark), but it never gets the signal bars in the status bar, and doesn't actually gets internet.
I have also tried the newest version of wifi tether, beta 14 from their website, but it won't even show up as a network using that.
Does anyone know of a way to get wifi tether to work on jelly bean?
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean via Xparent Cyan Tapatalk 2
The built in Wi-Fi hotspot works well for me. JB v3 with Franco 217. 4G on with WPA2 security to Windows 7 on my MacBook. All sorts of things running unintended software, and it all works like a charm. =)
Edit: VZW Galaxy Nexus
Edit2: I don't pay for tethering, but it shouldn't matter, as I'm data-capped either way.

Hmm, maybe it's an issue with the rom I am on, or the kernel it has. I am running on vanir v5, and it has a 3.0.31 popcorn kernel.

I rooted my tmobile S3 today and it worked fine. Later I installed a cyanogen nightly sang noticed it was only getting 3g, so I did a restore to the stock rooted firmware through ROM manger. With that I got just bars, no indication of 4g or 3g. The phone wouldnt go to the internet, it said no connection available. I had to restore back to cyangen to get the phone just to work... but regardless of which settings I chose the phone is stuck in 3g. What is the fix? I'm going crazy here

I don't know much more than you sorry. I know imei can get corrupted when flashing and it causes problems like that.

3G on cm is the same as 4G on tmo stock rom.
Try checking your apn settings on the stock rom since I think your imei is fine, without it you wouldn't have gotten 3G at all, even on cm.

Wait, are you just looking at the icon without it doing anything. Many aftermarket ROMs will show 3G when the phone is doing nothing. It will show 4G or H when you make it work.

I take it you're on Verizon, if so do you have the Verizon login apk? if so then make sure when you login the first time that you're on 3g/4g and not wifi or else it wont let you login. needs to be able to tell you're on the Verizon network. Thats all i got without knowing exactly whats not working for you

Seriously..for the life of me I can't figure out how this question still comes up. We've had leak after leak and in every thread for every rom this is asked dozens of times. I'm not usually one to chime in on things like this, but it's become so ridiculous it's borderline laughable.
OP, this isn't really a dig directly at you, but for everyone that keeps asking. Simply searching or even reading a thread would have given you an answer.

I hear you..that's why I said I wasn't really directing at you. More venting about the clowns that are in those threads still asking. You searched, so my hat's off. My apologies. Personally, I don't see a huge advantage to the upgrade. I'm staying on ICS for now. For me the battery has been better and can indeed tether if needed.

someone special just needs to "mod" the stock native sprint wifi app. its been done on past devices, epic, evo, etc., just don't get why the S3 is lacking when it comes to getting the native wifi app working, neither on ICS or JB.
it's annoying having to rely on third party apps and having to jump through hoops to get one working.
i'd gladly donate funds to make it happen if need be.

Simple solution just use an Aosp rom "WiFi tether for root users" app from play works great on any of em. I'm on Blackbean 6 now and use it all the time. Flawless rom, more customization than anything made & tether works.

Yeah, it's by using the fox fi app, from what I've heard. No wifi tethering but at least bluetooth is something.

WiFi Tether does rely on some features of the kernel to work. Perhaps they (Sprint?) changed he Touchwiz kernel for Jelly Bean that broke WiFi Tether.

I think the GSIII for U.S. is not included in the program's driver list. The International version works though. However, there's a program you can download from the PlayStore called Easy Tether. After downloading, follow the instructions to download the Windows (or whatever your OS is). Transfer the program onto your computer and install. Then connect your phone to your PC and you'll have tethering thru USB.
One other thing. The free (unregistered) version will let you browse the Internet but you cannot access Secure sites. You need to upgrade to paid (registered) version in order to access the Secure sites (emails, etc.). It's only $9.99 (one time purchase).

People didn't seem this quick to yell in the epic ROM threads.
But the same thing happend with Bluetooth on the OG Epic and Android 4.2.2 the driver stack broke BT, but it was not always listed in the op.
But I'll become a helpful S3 forum member as i learn more.

It's wouldn't be in the OP, because HDMI mirroring has to be supported at the kernel level for it to be present at all. It has absolutely nothing to do with the rom.
I think this is why you're not getting any straight answers because you're asking the wrong question.

Devs don't add this to their OPs because it's not a ROM related issue. In fact it's not really an issue at all. The simple fact is that vanilla android, also known as AOSP does not support HDMI-out and with that said there's no need for any OP to state that HDMI-out isn't supported because it's known across the board with AOSP. This also includes the Google Nexus devices since they have no manufacture overlays and are pure vanilla android, which is why I suggested looking into Slimports because I heard they provided HDMI-out support for some Nexus devices but don't hold me to it as I never purchased one so I'm not sure if that logic is true. If so, they might work on othe oem devices running AOSP ROMs but again don't hold me to that. You should look into it though.

I understand kernel vs rom. But IMHO if a device does not do x (Hdmi bt etc...) that it did stock it should be said just for the fact that there Would be less confusion (noobs & new ppl to said device)
I don't even have an HDMI thingy, but i would like to use it at my one friends house

It might be known across the board to devs that HDMI mirroring is not supported by AOSP, but the majority of people are ROM users who wouldn't know that. It should be stated in the OP of every AOSP ROM, otherwise their threads are gonna get filled with these types of questions. Thanks for the info though, knowing is half the battle. However, I seem to remember running a few different AOSP ROMs on my GNex that did support HDMI out, not just Slim ROMs. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
