I don't normally ask for advice as generally I don't run into issues rooting my phones or I solve them myself but I'm a little stuck here.
My cousin tried to root his one x using the method on onexroot.
He got to stage 41 but said he could not enter storage mode due to a sense update that apparently blocks him. This left him stuck rooting but he did unlock the bootloader.
At this point he thought it a good idea to try another method on theunlockr.
This time he got to step 7a, clicks the batch file and a cmd window pops up and gets to a point and freezing. Forgive my memory but I believe it said something about daemon. The process was left for 30 minutes with no progress on several occasions.
Afterwards the phone now does not boot past the HTC logo but will go into bootloader. I can't tell 100% what's gone on as I wasn't there but I take it there was an issue flashing his boot.img file.
The question is what is the best way of proceeding unbricking his phone. I have looked up several ways but all seem to reference a point where cwm has already been installed. Is there a way to sort this out using fastboot alone? If so does it matter where I download the fast boot files from and what commands shall I use.
Apologies for the length. I'm not into rooting htc's much and not really sure what I should be doing with this. Give me a nexus to root any day lol. Thanks for your help.

delete HTCSync (manager) completely
download this driver and install it
https://www.dropbox.com/s/rq4yxhn2q50l4v0/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
then you open a command window inside the fastboot folder and you put the phone in the bootloader.....then type
fastboot devices
serial pops up ? yes....continue with what you wanted to do.....
Make sure you use the original HTC USB cable and USB 2.0 ports. No USB 3.0 ports.....fastboot has trouble with that....
Maybe this helps !
Before trying the above, ive made a little bit of headway but im still bootlooping.
I downloaded CM10 nightly ROM and One X all in one toolkit. I used the toolkit to flash the kernel with the boot.img from the CM10 ROM then push CWM to the phone which i can now get into. I also installed the rom fine etc but rebooting the phone stil results in bootloop
Flash this boot.img and try again
http://db.tt/uDdWaAtH
I should also add that i cannot use those drivers you linked to (i have already tried) as i run windows 8 64 bit
Ah oke .....but flashing a kernel works now or do you need anything else ?

Hello.
I'm pretty sure i bricked my HTC desire yesterday when trying to flash LeeDroids Mod. My phone hangs at the three green HTC letters and it has been like this the whole night. I've tried taking out the battery and things like that but it still hangs. Even when triyng to do a recovery. So i searched the forum to find out how to unbrick the phone and i found a nice thread that explains how to get acces to the SD again and then how to unbrick the USB connection. But I havent been able to try this out yet since i cannot find out how to enter commands when in fastboot. I know I need to be connected with a USB-cable to the PC, but what else do I have to do?
Hope someone can help 'cause I would really love to have my HTC Desire working again so that i can try out more cool FroYo mods from this lovely forum.

you have to use adb, google the android sdk and start there
All you need to do is boot into FASTBOOT, plug in your USB and run an RUU to get back to stock (assumg one is available for your phone) and then root again, had to do it myself the other day
you do not have to do ANY of this
if you are using clockworkmod or any custom recovery then there is the option to mount USB storage in which you can put on a backup or any other rom onto your sd card, unmount usb storage, and flash it, all in one.

Have you booted the phone while holding the volume down and then selecting recovery, then when recovery boots, press volume up and power then select "apply update.zip" ?
The problem is that when i choose recovery it freezes aswell. The screen with the phone and the little red triangle freezes, so i cannot choose recovery.

So do what I said here...to get into FASTBOOT hold back and power it on
What is RUU?
Edit: Maybe I need someone to make a step by step noob guide? Im totally lost. Ive flashed my Desire lots of times before and ive never had a single problem, but right now i really dont know what to do and how to do?
If you're asking questions about RUU's then maybe rooting wasn't for you. It's basic stuff. You need a grasp of the basics before trying something advanced!
Basically it's the official ROM file from HTC/your phone vendor...
Okay. Thanks. I thought that RUU was something like that but I just couldnt see how i should be able to acces any files right now. As i wrote before the phone freezes at the picture of a phone with the red triangle, and i am not able to get any further that that. I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me how and what to do next?
I had the same problem a few days ago. For me it worked to just go through the rooting process again, you can find the steps on modaco (just step 1 of r6), I can't link them at the moment I'm at work and it seems I can't open modaco from here.
Anyways if you follow step 1 you can access the recovery again and the phone will boot past the HTC logo screen.
Also these steps are well documented on modaco.
Try this first since it will save you the step of running the RUU, which I wasn't able to (somehow the software complained my battery was below 30%, which it wasn't)
Good luck hope this solves it for you.

You don't need to go into recovery! boot into FASTBOOT and then leave it at that. Plug the phone in and it will then say FASTBOOT USB. Then run the RUU your phone came with originally. You don't need to go anywhere near Recovery
I am pretty certain that ive found a solution now. I deserve a fist in the nuts for being so stupid not to press volume up + power when trying to get into recovery mode. But fortunately dnlgee asked if i had remembered this. Now that ive gotten this far i should be able to solve the rest. I will however return if im still unable to solve it.

Ah I missed that part, I couldn't access recovery either. Only thing left working was fastboot for me. All other options would hang on the HTC logo screen.
OK i just got the evo 4g tried rooting it and failed during the bootloader check on the autorooter so i had to pull the battery and tried to run the ruu as stated in the autorooter tutorial and now i am getting error code 170 in the ruu i ran in compatibility i ran it also as an administrator and i have tried it in the recovery mode and still no connection tried adb devices and the serial number pops up but the ruu will not run because of the ec 170
You running windows? Try grabbing the htc sync drivers from their website. Error Code 170 is something like it cannot detect phone through usb or something.
i have tried this and still getting nothing i hold down the power and volume up rocker to go to hboot and try it from there and still get the error code...
is there a command to boot the phone so i can run the ruu ?
did you try going into fastboot from the bootloader screen to run the ruu?
adb to reboot into bootloader: adb reboot bootloader
otherwise you want to hold volume down and hit the power button while the phone is off
when i run the fastboot all it says is fast boot usb and then i run the ruu and it still gives me the error code 170

Glad you were able to finally get it to work, were you able to root properly afterward? Everything needed for adb is included so the sdk is not necessary for the script, some have said installing it can interfere with it but I made it on a computer that has the sdk installed without any problems.
Now that I was finally able to root my phone using the autoroot method and a few kind folks answering my rookie questions, I seem to have become even more confused!!
What exactly did the autoroot put on my phone? Obviously it is a "sense-like" ROM??
When it created the Nand backup, what exactly did it back up-- how it was AFTER it booted and completed the root process for the first time? ie, before I re-installed a few apps and threw a few widgets up
Also, I've downloaded ROM manager. I've read all over the place that it makes flashing ROMs very easy. I guess that is why I'm asking what the autoroot method did? When I click on "Download ROM" in ROM manager, it says I must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed before I continue and to install it through the ROM manager.
Seems like I read something about Clockwork not being good (no 4g???)
If all this is the case, then is ROM manager completely useless.
I feel like I'm missing something here. So when you stop laughing at me for being a clueless rookie, could somebody kindly help here!?!?
clowork rom mananger
clockwork works just fine for me when you in rom manager let it flash the latest version of clockwork for u and ull be just fine, the latest version backsup 4g. i been using it for months and flashed various roms and mods and never had one problem with it or using one of my nandroid backups. Just let rom manager refalsh the latest version. I wouldnt tell u nothing that isnt factual or i havent done

Hey all and sorry for this thread as i know you ahve probably seen them before but for the past week i have been trying to root my Wildfire S which was given to me after i sold my other phone.
Now i have read many posts and tried many things but so far i have gotten no where and i have no idea what im doing wrong, i have been to the HTC website and signed up i have then downloaded the right exe file (o2de/en if i remember right) started to run that then when the phone reboots the applicatin dies and the white screen i get when i unplug the cable is "ruu..." and thats it no other text.
I have also tried installing zip files onto the sd card and running them but these have failed too specially when it comes to the root.zip al i get is a red triangle with an explanation mark (up +power > install from sd = nothing)
Can someone help me out, i basically want to try soem roms out i have teh one thats on i have been using go launcher with ICS on it but it does not work fully to my likening plus if its possible i want to change the start up screen adn also get rid of some of the bloat wear.
Thanks in advance if someone is willing to take the time to look and help out. Im near the end of my teather and re-installing go launcher and evrything else (wiped the phone clean before attempting to root)

Yeh tried that tutorial before and always got stuck on this part: C:\Users\[YourLoginNameHere]\AppData\Local\Temp\{82B23FCD-D5D0-45CA-A3A2-5350D3926551}
Anyway finally got round it by using CCleaner and finding the right app an now installing the SDK. Dunno why i didnt think of clearing out the temp folder before doh! Will report back if i have another issue. =)
Nope stuck, this was the issue i was having before. I thought i just fixed it but nope not getting any further.
I am upto fastboot oem get_identifier_token, the issue i had was i would plug in the usb cable get 3 short fast beeps from the computer (not recognized) which i have since fixed so it makes the correct beep. But soon as i do the following:
cmd
cd \
cd android
fastboot oem get_identivier_token
I get "waiting for device".
I will have another shot tomorrow been a good hour now iphone was alot easier to do lol
Guess im staying unrooted then im stuck =(
waiting for device means it's not connecting in fastboot mode.
you need to boot the phone by holding vol- and power, then after it's finished reading the sd card, press power again to select fastboot mode (the writing at the top should say "fatboot usb" in re writing.
is your phone bl-unlocked or s-off? because i think you need one of those first before you can try flashing custom recovery?
::EDIT::
if you're having problems with HTCdev site etc....I think there was a tool floating around somewhere that could unlock bootloader without HTCdev site....
::EDIT2::

try this tool for BL-unlock without htcdev.
Hi guys, well I'm a new HTC One X owner and I just jumped ship from the iPhone. I had jailbroken my iPhone several times with only minor problems in the past so I thought I'd give it a try on the One X. Unfortunately, I think I've really screwed something up and now when i boot it up, it vibrates and then hangs at the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. So here's what I did:
I downloaded Hasoon2000's HTC One X All-In-One v.1.1 kit. I followed the instructions and as far as I could tell, everything worked fine. The bootloader was unlocked and I was able to root the phone. However, after installing a couple of apps which all crashed when I tried to run them (it made the phone restart), I decided to do a factory reset and do it again. So i held onto the power button + volume down and went into the Bootloader and tried to reset it which then took me to the CWM 5.8.4.0 screen. I then did the factory reset there which led me to where I am now.
Could someone please tell me where to proceed from here to bring it back up and running normally again? As you can probably tell, I know next to nothing about Android so I would really appreciate some patience and step by steps. I've already scoured Google looking for a solution but I could never understand what people were talking about. If you need any more information to give you a better diagnosis, please let me know and maybe tell me how to find the information
Thanks a lot people, any help would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not sure exactly what you mean. By that, do you mean did I install a non-stock OS? If so, then the answer would be no. I did flash the recovery with CWM 5.8.4.0 but I have a feeling that, that's not what you meant.

Thanks a lot man! Could you...please tell me how to do that? I saw a few threads discussing soft-bricks and they suggested downloading some stuff and then plugging the phone into the PC and typing some commands into cmd. But when I connect my phone into my PC i get no response, even when I'm in the Bootloader screen.
And also, does it matter which version of the official firmware i get? I saw people mentioned RUU files but it had to match my phone's version. Does this have anything to do with that?
I believe you should just plug the phone and run your factory ruu and that would do it and bring the phone back to stock.
Heres where u can get the ruu, am not sure whats the codename for the international hox but i think this is it. Please make sure you are using the correct ruu for your phone.

You should probably read up before trying this again. If you can hold the power button and volume down. It should bring you into a menu. You should press the volume down button until fast boot is highlighted and then press the power button to select it. Download htc sync and install the drivers. Go to the one x development section and download the ruu for your device. Then run the ruu.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys. That link you gave me says that they are ROMs for Endeavor, is that the same as a ruu? And also, how do i figure out which ruu is right for me? I'm in Switzerland and my carrier is Orange but I see several ruus there under orange but none of them are for Switzerland and there are even different version numbers. In my current state, is there a way for me to find out which version I need?
By the way, when I try to connect my phone to my PC in fastboot mode and open cmd prompt and type in "fastboot getvar cid", i get "'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." If i click Fastboot on my phone and then HBOOT whilst plugged into the PC, i get a few lines on my phone saying that it "Failed to open USB master mode" and then "please plug off USB".

okay, I didn't realise I had to install fastboot on my PC. So i just configured it following the directions here: http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/2153...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/

cid: None
finished. total time: 0.004s
So what does this mean?
Download an app from the marketplace and see what that comes up with. Also go into settings about phone software information then software number. What is the software number?

You are going to need to find out wich ruu version u need. I dont know how carriers identify themselves on europe. After you identify it get into the bootloader menu get on fastboot and the open the ruu you downloaded the software should do everything by itself. Btw if you do this your going back to stock that means no root no cwm or wtever you had your going to have to do everything again but at least you got the phone working. Once you identify the ruu you need i would not download the latest version just in case the carrier fixed the root method or something. Again i dont know much about how europe works and how bossy carriers are about rooting/unlocking bootloader. You can try asking on that same thread for the one you need. Someone elsr might have an answer. Good luck.
Ps. Am not sure if you are going to need to relock the bootloader in order for the ruu to run. Can someone shed some light on this?

Well the thing is, I'm not 100% sure what I did. First I did a factory reset on CWM and everything worked fine, but when my phone rebooted, I realised CWM was still there. What i wanted was to go back to square one, as in no recovery and no root. So i went back into recovery and wiped some other stuff, and that's when this happened. I know, I'm a total idiot, I don't know what i was thinking
Yea a different rom to what you had maybe that one had problems. ARHD is Android Revolution HD any other rom would work though. Just pick one from the development section.

Well i just took a look at the ARHD thread and I'm stuck on the second line of instructions: "Download "Super Wipe" script & place it on your SD card (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)"
I have no access to my SD card, when i plug it into my PC, nothing happens because all i can do is go into recovery and bootloader.
Just a question, if I try to use the wrong ruu, what would happen?
I was trying to root my htc ONE x as I wanted to run an app that needed a rooted phone. I managed to unlock the bootloader using the One x all in one kit and then went on to the rooting. I followed a guide found here: knowyourmobile.com/htc/htc-one/17426/how-root-your-htc-one-x to the letter.
At the end it said it would reboot twice then once again so I waited patiently. 13 reboots later and it was still going so I disconnected it from the USB (the cmd window closed after 2nd reboot) It is now stuck in a reboot loop and I cannot get it out. I can get to the fastboot menu using the down volume and power but have no idea what to do from there. Tried flashing a stock firmware in this mode but it says my battery is below 30% and I can't get it to charge as its constantly rebooting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...sorry again to be a pain. I have read and read and I am getting more and more confused

Rule number 1 when reading a guide: always make sure to read the comments of the users too, before following the guide.
On the link you provided, there are a lot of people saying the ADB file is out of date and it bricked their phones.
I remember seeing an old post about charging your phone while in fastboot mode. After some searching, I found it:

Oke new thing to do.
Put this file in the fastboot folder
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aaah8gqz8j024xz/Batt script.bat
Leave the phone in the bootloader/fastboot usb mode and execute the .bat file with admin rights.
Select the .bat file with the right mouse button and select
Run as administrator
It will restart the bootloader continuously and charge it little by little. Leave it going until it reaches around 3800 mV
Then flash the recovery and enter it !

I can't confirm this since I've never tried it. Mr. Hofs has to confirm if this method still works but if you still have some battery left, it's worth a try I guess.
If your battery is charged enough, flash a custom recovery and enter it. Then, from the options choose "power off" and wait until someone more knowledgeable than me can help you.
Classic 20, IT WORKED! Thanks man you rule!

No problem at all. Glad to have been able to help you!
Also, did you manage to finally boot the phone or do you still get stuck at the logo?
I installed a stock RUU in fastboot and heaved a sigh of relief
