Light and stable Desire rom recommendations please. - Desire General

Hi guys.
Can someone recommend a lightweight fast and stable rom for the Desire please.
My missus has my old Desire which i ran cyanogenmod 7 on (always the latest stable release). But she had problems with force closes constantly, i tried wiping and reflashing a few times but it was still playing up.
I tried paranoid android but didnt like. It is currently running a jelly bean rom (cant remember which just now) but it is also force closing apps so im looking for something simple that will run viber, skype, google talk, maps, sms and calls reliably.
Cheers

cm7 should have been stable, don't know why it gave force closes.
jellybean or ICS roms for desire generally aren't as stable as gingerbread roms. if all she wants is viber, skype, google talk, maps, sms and calls reliably, stock unrooted firmware will do this just fine . if it's a custom rom, then stick with an aosp gingerbread rom: mildwild (any of the 3 based on oxygen, cm7 or redux) is a good start. some solid gb sense ones too, but then again these tend to be slightly heavier.
whichever rom you pick, ensure you have correctly partitioned your sd card if required (use gparted or 4ext recovery only, not minitool or clockworkmod recovery), this alone could make cm7 stable if you're using a sd partition.also might as well have the correct hboot for maximum space, search for guides on all of these.

+1 for Mildwild - any of his ROMs are light and reliable. I'm currently running the latest Euroskank as a daily ROM and I've had no issues with it either. :good:

Any AOSP GB ROM should be good for you.
Try Mildwild, Oxygen, dGB, etc. Check out the Desire index. For CM7 that you're on, suggest wipining and installing it fresh. Shouldn't give you any FCs.

Thanks guys,
This is maybe where I've been going wrong. I have been using the recovery to do all the wipes (dalvik, Ext, rom etc), then installing the zip rom from there too. Maybe the sd card needs a good clean out and repartitioned. I will try the Mildwild rom as it looks good. Gingerbread is probably ok for the missus as she probably wouldnt use the newer features in android. It will be rooted though for titanium backup and mobile defense.
Cheers

Finally got it sorted. I went for the Mildwild CM 8 version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1453287
The oxygen version seems to have been taken down.
I think using gparted in ubuntu has set up the SD card properly.
Thanks for the tips.

Try this one: RSK Sattelite Rosie 8.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431908)
This is Sense 3.5 ROM. The fastest I've ever used. If you don't like the integrated blue theme, you may flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173786 to get stock look.
You may also try the previous version (RSK Special Edition Deodexed)
I hope you'll like it.

MildWild is best

I agree, Mildwild does some nice roms, GB-1 is very quick and light.
Regards,

This is the fastest Sense rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279016

cm7 v8
Two days ago installed CM7 v8.
This rom is very impressive. Very smooth and responsive.
Even in the basic android settings under apps, it sees my entire ext4 1gb partition as internal app memory. This is very helpful when using the PlayStore because it always seems to check this number before it begins downloading.

stable rom?

can anyone tell me the most stable rom, wit hall components working with no bugs , glitches or problems etc. i currently have stock on my phone, and have been wanting to upgrade, but although every few days something is released, or a new feature (sense 3) i dont want to install if bugs - i.e. i read in sense 3 the weather doesnt update, so bit pointless installing.
whats the best rom for me? im guessing all roms are cleaned up and sped up.
Start with Seraphics Stock (but rooted) HTC gingerbread. Its the 2.3 update with root access, everything works.
Try Leedroid 3.02 very stable for me and have all u need battery holds nice too.

Depends on what ur looking for, I had the same question a month ago or so and decided to go for the a Revolution rom, by now I never want to go back again. I just flashed the Android Revolution HD 5.1.4, seems stable, fully functional and fast.
Yup, another vote for Android Revolution. Faster, better battery life, and probably more stable than stock My opinion is, don't go for Sense 3 mods, except maybe USB Connection thing. 3.0 Lock screen is pretty much useless like stock one, untill they fully implement features from sense 3 (lock screen apps selection,...).
Make a backup of your stock ROM, and then install ARHD 5.1.4 or LeeDroid 3.0.2, if you don't like it after testing, just restore to your previous state and you're back (with the slow one)
I would go for ARHD i have been using i for quiet a long time now and havent seen a lot of bugs its very fast and easy to use when you come from stock ROM because of no visual chances i would not recommed that you install any of the mods or themes in the first place Hope it helps

using ROM Manager or clockworkmod recovery (ROM Manager is a GUI for CWM-R).
Just hit the backup current ROM.
You should perform a (NAND) backup every time you flash a new ROM etc. just in case something goes wrong.
to try ARHD is a good dission.
It's fast, stable and simply that what you're looking for.
My tip on you: read the quides carefully, you'll have no problems with the flashing.
Try RCMIX if you want sense.
Try CM if you do not want sense.

il add another vote for leedroids 3.0.3 it is very stable and everything works
thank you all, i will try revolution first, as it is downloaded now, then once i have done one i am sure i will be addicted and more happy to try others more often.
ok, thank you everyone, i have installed the rom, it seems faster, and no noticeable problems yet.
I followed the guides found on here. and today saw on another site that it mentions to factory reset and wipe data, and then wipe data again after install, which there was no mention of in guides here.
will this cause a problem? i dont want to reset /wipe data now as just set it up again how i like it.
Rcmix v6 is stable, the new kingdom port 0.2 has too much widgets problem for me.
+1 for leedroid but 3.0.3 with 3.0.4 kernel... Its smothhiie and works perfectly

which rom should i use

hey there guys, just wanting some advice currently i have mine and a friend i know using RCMixHD v3.6 i think its great, if a little problematic, but my friend whos phone i rooted and installed RCMixHD v3.6 isnt really any good at all this and if problems arise he has no idea how to fix it. So what im looking for is the best rom to get him using that is trouble free, but that also gives more space for apps, IMO the only problem with these desires is the lack of space for apps.
So guys you lot are the experts, whats the best desire rom that gives more space for apps, preferably i think without partitioning the memory card. cos i think thats whats causing the problems he gets.
If You don't want to partition SD card try one of AOSP roms, but the best way to get more spare for apps is to partition SD and flash A2SD+ rom.
Go s-off and flash either Oxygen or CM7 hboot then the corresponding rom. Personally I have CM7 because I find it better. Anyway, I'd you need to, you can setup A2SD later if need be but you do get 300+ MB of storage with these hboots.
I don't like to use A2SD because for 1, I have a slow card, class 2 and second, it can really **** up.

I'd rather go with Redux or Oxygen. and trick them out with apps.
I'm using RCMix S 1.6.1 A2SD+ and it's really fast and stable. I've got lot of, ~50 apps, and phone running without any lags. Updates are very often ~1-2 in a week. It's even work on s-on phones. Only condition is sd partition, but if you want a lot of space you need to have one.
Swyped from my HTC Desire using XDA App
If you want ROM with sense i would go with Leedroid 3.0.6 (stable, fast and has App2SD out of the box). If you want ROM without sense, i would go with Cyanogenmod 7.0.3. It doesn't come with App2SD by default, but you can easily install it.
Well, maybe you should just try out?
Start with oxygen or devnull, install apps, make sure sync all to cloud.
After that try other roms, everytime you flash new rom - get your apps and settings from cloud...
That's what I do when I'm bored and wanna try a new rom....

Might want to check on that, the RCMix team are responsible for some of the best, most stable, and most regularly updated ROM's on the HD/Sense3 side so they DO know how.
I would second RCMix, problem is it's by the same guys..
i go with reflextsense 2.05 by now, and downloading.
for me it's fast n stable.
thanks to Neo..
I have used cm, oxygen, insertcoin, leedroid, but my favourite of all is Reflex S by Neo. Currently using 2.0.5, but may switch back to 2.0.2 as I prefer the newer messages app.

I rooted my Desire I think a month ago now.
Since then I tried Modaco R26, Cyanogen 7.02, Redux, Defrost and since two days I am using F1 Cyanogen.
I like Defrost very much, it's Froyo (love the froyo white statusbar theme) and it's small and fast. I also like Redux, Gingerbread, but also small and fast.
F1 is Cyanogen based, stripped from lots of stuff that you can dl yourself from the market afterwards if you want. Very nice too.
Some odd thing (to me), I have one or two apk's, like simple clock widget, in some ROM's (Defrost) it will install in English and I will see it in English in Market too, in others (Redux and F1) it's only available in Chinese and if I install the same apk it also turns up as a Chinese version on my phone..

RcmixS v 1.5 vs insertcoin 1.02

Which one and why?

1.0.2, I use this rom and it's perfect.
It's is also updated very offen
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
But did you use rcmixs?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I did on daily base... Insert Coin is great, I use v28 Nightly, but also love Robocik's work. The best thing is to try both of them and decide which one is best for you. InsertCoin seems stable and fast... but then again Baad... used RCmixHD as start point...
I'm kinda curious as to the differences too.
Yes I also try RCMix S rom, try them to have your own opinion, try InsertCoin Cm7 Hboot Version
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
Well you wouldn't beleive but there are some differences. First of all depends which HBOOT u r using,,couse rcmixhd makes it pretty fast and stable on both stock & cm7 hboot. If u are stock u can try robo's new script x-a2sd and u get over 300 mb internal to start. But feels like InsertCoin somehow perfected cm7 rom ver, while stock is still stuck with some lags. Depends on lot's of things. I use louncher pro always, and it requires strong and stable rom to run smoothly. The differences you can feel...
Maybe i can ask different. What things made you choose one of them after testing them both?
Speed or stability or shiny stuff?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Well I've been sorta switching between both of them for a while because they are in my opinion the two best Gingerbread Sense ROMs around for the Desire. There aren't in fact any major differences between the two to be honest since they both strive to do pretty much the same thing. InsertCoin gets updated more frequently I find than RCMix since custom ROMs are created by ordinary folk who have other commitments. Both ROMs have few bugs though what happened recently is I used the latest RCMix to find that the maps app kept crashing and then I used InsertCoin to find Paypal and the Collins dictionaries I bought had disappeared from the Android Market. My advice would be to try both and see which one works best for you. If you have Rom Manager Premium, you can also get OTA of InsertCoin which seems to be the most up to date one these days though Baadnews has now created nightlies for InsertCoin as well as a stable version which is also very handy I think. I reckon when the official Gingerbread Desire ROM gets leaked, there'll be less bugs. Anyway have fun!
The Insercoin 1.02 is perfect,
but i had got 1 problem, it's the TTS service can't use
Well, I am using InsertCoin 1.0.2 and I only encountered some minor problems: Facebook for Android does not work properly and the name of my operator changed back to the earlier one. Other than that, I like this ROM.
Agree with Iunoma. I keep flashing InsertCoin's Nightly ver for few days now and call me freaky but somehow feel that InsertCoin's even Nightly rom is faster than RCmixHD. My first choice speed, then stability, then extra stuff... So, there you are. I would rather flash perfected froyo then GB and Kingdom port if they gets slow. And I did at first, then flashed lots of rcmixes and InsertCoin's Nightly at the end... But the most helpful was flashing CM7 over stock HBOOT...

MildWild V2.2.1 (Oxygen Based Rom) with Data2SD

I've been trying out quite a few differnent ROM's recently and have decided to stick with MildWilds Oxygen based ROM until a stable ICS ROM is completed.
The rom itself is quite fast, very stable and gives good battery life.
I installed Data2SD using the extremely stable latest Sibere Data2sd scripts giving me an internal memory size of 2GB! Quite easy to do on most AOSP and Sense ROM's, just install the ROM, input email address, wifi details etc, to get you to the home screen, then immediately reboot back to recovery, run the Apps2SD killer zip then the data2sd zip and reboot. Done. 2GB internal memory and a smooth OS. Hardly any lag at all, practically no force closes to speak of. All in all a Great ROM wit a great Data2SD script.

[Q] Which CM is best for Wildfire S ??

I have had rooted my device, Now i just want to select CM. which CM is more stable on wildfire S Cm 9.1 or Cm 10 ?
And if i partition the card with ROM manager app ,is it safe will it delete my data from the card ?
I haven't tried any other CM but CM10, so I cannot tell you wether it's more stable than CM7 or CM9, but I can tell you that it is fully satisfying! It's smoother thand the original sense 2.5 rom on your WFS and most problems that occured with CM10 are solved or are being solved thanks to the devs... So I would go for the latest CM, which is CM10...
I tested modpunk's CM10 Alpha 2 and ParanoidAndroid 2.54 JB and Jelly King 1.2 and I have to say that Jelly King is probably the best Rom I have ever used! Go for it!

I flashed Jelly King and I must say it's very good rom. Fast, smooth etc.
But in my case voice search and other voice service doesn't work. I don't know why is that Rom fault or gapps.

Since buying my wfs I stayed on stock only for a little bit. So for over a year I've been using various cm and cm- based roms.
Right now I've found cm10 builds to be somewhat snappier. Cm9 based roms a little more stable imho. (Still, the most stable for me have been cm7 based roms.)
To your second question now, if you're going to be partitioning your SD, do take the time to backup first, definitely.
