Can't wait for Windows Phone 7 Series, but can't hack the emulator, either? Don't lose hope, Windows junkies -- you can still bring some semblance of WP7S order into your life with this Metro UI-inspired desktop HUD. Based on the open-source desktop customization platform Rainmeter, the "Omnimo UI" will overlay your desktop with a minimalist, tiled interface not unlike the one you've been drooling over for weeks, with live hooks into many useful services (including Gmail, iTunes, Steam, Twitter and SpeedFan) as well as the usual widgets and a host of program shortcuts. The best news of all? It's available now for all versions of Windows since XP, completely free of charge; simply follow the source links or flit over to Lifehacker, where good folks will teach you how it's done.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
How-To Make Your Windows 7 Desktop Look Just Like Windows 7 Phone with Rainmeter
If you haven’t heard of Rainmeter, it’s a popular freeware that enables some of the rich customization on your Windows desktop.
This is the tool that can push the desktop customization to the maximum. If you are really interested, be sure to check out their documentation first, as they have a nice explanation on what the whole product is about, and beginner guide for you to get started.
Yes, you can use Rainmeter to create your very own customized Windows Desktop.
Some basic customizations you can do with Rainmeter are
•add different skins;
•perfectly styled widgets, e.g. CPU, RAM, Network monitor, one click music player, RSS feeds, etc. on your desktop.
Although, it may sounds very much the same as the default Windows gadgets and sidebar, there are a fundamental differences:
1.You can use Rainmeter on Windows XP, as well as on Vista and 7.
2.You can have a totally different look for the widgets on every theme.
3.You can create your own widgets/themes/skins.
This is what the finished desktop looks like. Lets begin customizing your Windows 7 desktop and make it looks and feels like the Windows 7 Phone running on your desktop.
First, download and install the Rainmeter, be sure to download the right version if you are running on a 64-bit edition.
Next, download the additional Omnimo UI. This is the skin for Windows 7 Phone which you need to have to make it look like the picture above.
Run the Rainmeter first before doing anything, which creates the default directory for skins, themes, and backup. Do not run the Omnimo UI if you have never run Rainmeter before.
Now, exit the Rainmeter and launch the Omnimo UI Rainstaller.
Choose Express Install if you don’t want to change any default directory settings.
Once you’ve done this, you should now see Rainmeter launch with the newly added Theme called Omnimo UI. And this is exactly what you see on the first screen shoot.
You can now customize, to show which widgets, feed URL, clocks, weather, etc. you would like to have on the desktop.
Finally, enjoy your Windows 7 Phone theme on your Windows 7 Desktop

Installer Version Rainmeter 1.1 - (32bit) - (64bit)
Download Omnimo UI here
Using it on my laptop at uni, looks pretty cool esp with the supplied bridge wallpaper
Do any of you know how to change the icons in the program menu of Omnimo?
Theres a folder asocciated with that panel, if you open it up you'll find a bunch of icons you can use, but theres not many
its awsome looking ,but I have noticed it drains the battery on my laptop .. not worth to be kept for me .
thanks

Setting up the RemoteDroid server on your PC
Here are the steps for downloading and running the RemoteDroid server software on your PC. Before you begin you must already have a wireless home network already setup. You will also need Java SE Runtime Environment 1.5 or higher. Last but not least you will of course need a phone running the Android OS.
Go to http://www.remotedroid.net and download the latest RemoteDroid server zip file.
Extract the downloaded zip file to a folder on your PC. (example: C:\remotedroid)
Now open the location to which you extracted the zip file and run the file RemoteDroidServer.jar
The IP address of the PC RemoteDroidServer is running on will be displayed in the window you have just opened. Remember this IP as you will need it later in this guide.
Setting up the RemoteDroid app on your Android device
Now that you have downloaded and ran the RemoteDroidServer.jar file on the PC that you want to control it is time to configure RemoteDroid on your phone.
Go to the Android Market
Search for the RemoteDroid app, download it, and install it on your phone
Open the RemoteDroid app that you just installed
Enter the IP address of the PC you want to control (This will be the IP from Step 4 above)
Tap Connect
That is it! The large red square on your phone is the mouse capture box, the left green box acts as the left mouse button, the right green box acts as the right mouse button, and the keyboard icon between the green boxes brings up the keyboard input window to allow you to type on your PC.
Enjoy your new wireless mouse and keyboard.

Oh, excuse me. I though you was the developer.
I will report to him soon.
Thanks for share the app.

probably worth mentioning somewhere near the top that you're not the developer of this app?
Nobody else uses this app?
Do you think it's possible to have an app with this features which works in 3G/data? In other words which don't only work in Wifi.
Connection would be made with a QR code flashed on the phone from a java programm or a website on the computeur.
I don't say ‘this app must exist' but i ask myself if this network connection is possible
Thx

this app is very useful when connecting desktop/laptop to tv and control it.. no wireless mouse/keyboard required.. multitouch also works for scrolling up/down web pages, only its missing pinch to zoom function..
thanks op from sharing
Just what I was looking for.
I was gonna buy a mini Bluetooth keyboard for my PC but this does everything and more. I actually found it by accident when Slashdot did an article on 'Droidmote' running on an MK802. Never did get Droidmote working. I found I had to turn off predictive text to get the keyboard working but that's no biggie.
The only thing I could wish for would be calibration for the touchpad or, better yet, ballistics (fast swipe for large movements and slow swipe for fine movements) so I'm off to the developer's website to suggest it.
This was right on time. My logitech wireless key board died on me and this will work fine till I can get a replacement.
nice!!
this is a very nice app...
but the keyboard does not work...
So I have been looking for new and cool apps that really compliment the Note II and I think that it's worth having a thread to have a list of the top apps to help with productivity, maximize use of the larger screen and overall get the most out of the Note II.
One that I've recently found and that is perfect for the Note II is 'Relaunch'. Screen shot below:

This app is super cool and allows for quick app changing in a new intuitive way. With the S Pen and big screen it's super useful.
Another good app is Floating Browser! Allows you to do something similar to Samsung's Pop up Browser, with full flash and content (more robust)

8. Download: Pop-Up Browser Invoker (Pop-Up Browser as actual listed app)

14. Download:
ROOT REQUIRED >>>
1. Download: Directory Bind (Use MicroSD for apps)
2. Download: GL to SD (Gameloft games to SD)
3. Download: GMD S Pen Control (Custom S Pen Gestures)
Let's get a good running list.
Just saving second post in case the list gets long.
There is also a floating terminal app. It costs a few dollars, but if you're a terminal junkie, that's probably worth it.
I think there's also a floating calculator.
What else do we want to see in floating windows? There's demo code available for that-- so hopefully we'll see more applications like that.
I recently discovered that the Pulse widgets, with the right homescreen app-- (with resizeable grid and the option to overlay widgets)
Make for a slick looking homescreen page devoted to news.
And of course, with an S-Pen, drawing apps like MagicMarker and Sketcher are invaluable.
Some people may find this split/floating keyboard useful :
There's also the WOW split browser, but since we have MultiWindow, its obsolete.
I thought I might have a few more suggestions, but that's really all I have for now.
GpcSOFT kicks so much ass.
Super Manager and Super Video are both really great apps.
And you can do much much more with Super Video.
If you use a wallet case or a flip cover, I found Intellicover - it allows you to turn off and on the screen just by opening and closing your screen. It can even disable the lockscreen on opening the screen.
Taskarou is another one that I've been using frequently.
I like LilyPad HD (Pop Up Floating Chat) on my Note.
It's a floating messenger client, which lets you chat with your Facebook, Google Talk or Windows Live Messenger contacts from anywhere in your phone.
been using swipepad on my previous phones, but i like the looks of relaunch. ill be trying that
Wave Launcher is my pick for launching apps, plus you can put widgets and have access to them no matter what you have on screen
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilemerit.wavelauncher
Overscreen is my favorite floating browser, although I had to sideload it since the market doesn't want to play nice
Sketch-a-bit has been on every device I've owned that runs android, if you like drawing then just go download it, it's like it was made for the Note, even though it's from 2010
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.superfiretruck.sketchabit
I posted a couple really nice apps in another thread you should check out. One invokes the pop up browser, another let's you set up commands for the spen, and light manager to adjust stock led notifications. Links are in that thread.

PrecieUX: Opulence is a one-click-applicable home screen decoration pack for BuzzLauncher users. Even if you have never used BuzzLauncher before, you can easily apply this beautiful home screen on your own device (whichever phone it may be) with a few clicks. If you do find it appealing, how-to-apply procedures are prepared for you at the bottom of this post.
Before moving on, please watch the teaser video I've prepared for you. I took time and care producing this video, so please watch in HD!
As the video read, certain privileges are available to only a number of special people. . . people like you. Opulence will bring the luxurious life-style that you deserve to your phone.
Ground up photoshopped matching pixel-to-pixel accuracy, tile-icons boast elegant details in even the phones with the highest resolution available in market today: Full HD (1920 x 1080). Designed and developed using Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4, Opulence is compatible with devices with other resolutions such as but not limited to HD (1280 x 720) or WVGA (800 x 480). Do not worry whether Opulence is going to look the same on your phone, because BuzzLauncher will automatically adjust layout and size of icons for your phone, whichever screen-size or resolution it may have.
Opulence is composed of 3 tabs: Main, Media and RSS. When you're in each of the three tabs, bottom of the tab you're in will glow to indicate the tab you're in. To switch to a certain tab, simply touch the tab you wish to switch to. Switching tab-to-tab is simply gorgeous: it feels like turning on a light-bulb by pressing on it.
The first tab of Opulence is "Main". Graceful widgets intuitively deliver to you information regarding date, time, your schedule, location and the weather. It has never been easier to see the important information so conveniently and so tastefully. Bottom third of the screen has short-cuts to the most necessary functions of your smartphone: downloading new applications, contacting your friends through social network services (folder containing short-cuts to different apps) and using your telephony services. The bottom dock is constant in all 3 tabs. Left tells you the percentage of battery you have left, and right tells you the time. Pressing the "Apps" icon will summon your phone's app-drawer that has all of your applications.
The second tab is your playground. It is worth a lot to live up to tight schedules, but sometimes you should enjoy good music or watch sensational movies. A big album-art of the album you're listening to decorates your second tab, so this tab will be automatically personalised to you individually according to the music you prefer. Without having to leave your home-screen, you can control your music player using the stylish control-icons already prepared for you. The Internet icon connects you to Google Chrome (but the short-cut can be directed to another application if you prefer another browser), and the Multimedia icon is a folder that contains apps most frequently used when listening to music or viewing your pictures and videos.
The third tab, as its name implies, has a gigantic RSS reader widget. Just pull out your phone from your pocket and unlock; the information you want to read will be updated and ready for you. (Press the bottom right corner of the RSS widget to add/remove RSS feeds). If the website you like does not support RSS, you can also choose to make bookmarks to your favorite websites and store them in the Bookmarks folder on the same screen.
To have PrecieUX: Opulence as your home-screen, please follow these steps:
* for convenience, you can choose to access http://www.bluepremium.co.kr/entry/PrecieUX-Opulence-Global. Then you can simply press on the following links.

3. Press "Download"
4. After applying Homepack, you can apply icons as you wish by downloading the icon pack for Opulence from the following link: http://bluepremium.co.kr/attachment/[email protected]
5. If you like Opulence, please take a minute to press the "like" button on Buzz Launcher. I've thoroughly explained the process in the following link.

nice thanks.
The Verizon Ellipsis 8 was pushed into Android 5.1.1 with only 1GB of ram. And though there are rumors that this device can be rooted, the default OS allows all but 2 apks to be disabled from the home menu so I chose not to explore rooting. Once the apks including google play and google play services were disabled, I was able to painfully, due to graphic issues, play a game of Cannon Spike on RetroArk at near full speed. The device is compatible with all versions of RetroAarch as of now (which is at 1.10.0_GIT). The problem is, RetroArch has a slight bug when it comes to a very low number of devices. Devices such as the Verizon Ellipsis 8 have a navigation bar at the bottom and the status bar at the top that automatically hides in Android 5.1.1. This seemingly un-adjustable autohide feature prevents apks such as the RetroArch menu screens from reregistering touches correctly.
There is a work around (it requires 2 hands) to navigate the menus in RetroArch on a Verizon Ellipsis 8 (after the game is launched, the apk works as normal).
1. Launch RetroArch
2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to activate the temporary navigation bar (remember it autohides).
3. As the navigation bar is deployed at the bottom, touch and hold the bottom right or bottom left of the screen (don't worry if the bar eventually disappears).
4. Continue to touch and hold the corner of the screen the entire time (I use my thumb as I hold the device itself).
5. Now you can navigate the RetroArch menu with your other hand.
Below are the apks that are running on a stock build of Android 5.1.1 with 1GB of ram that can at least boot Dreamcast games. Using a practically bare system, I was able to play, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Expendable, Power Stone, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure 2, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater all with near flawless graphics and speed (turn sound down). Hope this helps!
