Galaxy s3 i9305 won't turn on after installing custom rom (AT&T LTE 4G version) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

After installing the rXTREME v6.2 ROM for the i9305, I selected restart from Recovery and it never turned back on. The battery was fully charged before I installed this custom ROM.
- I have removed the battery for an hour and then tried again turn it on - no success. Can't get into Download mode using the 3-buttons.
- When I plug it into my laptop via USB I hear the 'connected sound' and when I remove it I hear the 'disconnected sound', but I do not see any ability to access the phone via Windows Explorer. The driver is found and connected too.
- I tried using Odin and it say's "Added!" when I connect, but the COM:x field is 'yellow', not blue. (Keep in mind I can't get into Download mode on my phone, but I still tried with Odin) I load the right PDA file (I9305XXBMA3_I9305MEOBMA1_I9305XXBLL5_HOME.tar.md5) and have 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time' checked. Odin message stays on status "SetupConnection..". I've left it this way many times, one time overnight. But with no success.
Any advice??? Please help :/

You are hard bricked. You flashed an international ROM to a us phone (or vice versa, your thread title is a little confusing on what device model you have)
JTAG or send to Samsung.

I'm not sure he's hard bricked. Hard brick means no signs of life. Odin can see it, so there's obviously some sign of life. You need to find the proper stock firmware for your phone and try to flash back to stock

ODIN also detects hard bricks. It usually shows up as an unknown device with no drivers and can't be flashed. I've been there and done that with my own hard brick.
As his post says his phone won't boot, even after a battery pull and can't get into download or recovery. That would be no signs of life.
I have seen it happen too many times with people flashing international ROMs to their us devices. 95% of the time it is always a hard brick.
Unless he provides us with an update showing that the phone can boot, at all, even a flicker of the screen, its a dead phone. =/

if the phone won't turn on by any mean... you got yourself hard bricked.
people should really read before they actually flash a new rom... what you flashed is an international version.
but that's also weird... if i recall, some people mentioned when they flash international roms, they only got themselves soft bricked..

I concur. Too many people gloss over the thread to flash whatever they feel like it. (even saw people using a vzw app to unlock their att boot loader.. which isn't even locked. also hard bricked. )
The lucky few do get a soft brick. Those lucky few were able to see the Samsung boot logo though. It all depends on the ROM. For instance if you flash the international foxhound ROM its a guaranteed brick. 3 different people in a 2 day span I helped not too long ago. all flashed foxhound all hard bricks.

I really feel XDA should implement a test on reading comp and flashing basics before you are allowed access to dev forums for ROMs.

people should really do research before actually doing it in any way.

Do you get any signs of life on the screen at all? Either Recovery or Download mode? The Galaxy S3 splash screen? Anything at all?
If not, then it's a hard brick and you can get it repaired via a JTAG service (check eBay).
However, if you get ANY signs of life on the screen at all, even if for just a moment, then you might be able to repair things yourself.

What happens after you do a battery pull? Try that leave it out for a few seconds and see if it turns itself on again, essentially it shouldn't be able to unless your hardware button is stuck/sticky.
Is your phone insured ?
If you are on a custom rom it could be a bad download. Check the MD5 checksums and verify that your download was legitimate. Other than that. If you ARE NOT rooted, I suggest you read MULTIPLE tutorials and root your phone in addition to adding a custom ROM.
May I suggest Juggernaut V5.0. Or if you like ICS I suggest Blackedition or NexusMod
Best of luck

he means that the power button might be stuck. try booting into recovery, and if your phone automatically selects reboot, you know your power button is stuck.

Give this a go... Back up your device beforehand.
Download Samsung Kies. Put you phone into download mode. Open Kies, and under "Tools" menu, select "Emergency firmware recovery". This will completely restore your device to stock. If you still have issues afterward, its a hardware problem.
Edit: You WILL lose root with this method. But you'll also get a definitive answer...
Unroot it and install stock

[Q] Sprint Galaxy S III Rooted/Installed ROM... Now won't power on. Help!

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for a little help today.
I rooted my new Sprint Galaxy S III using Odin3-v3.04, and CWM_SuperUser_v3.0.7. Afterwards I rebooted and all was good.
I then downloaded I9300_Omega_v6.0_XXALF6 ROM and loaded on my phone and rebooted into recovery to install the ROM. I went through the install process, selected remove bloatware and installed. When finished I checked the reboot phone and clicked finish. The phone turned off and didn't ever turn back on.
I have pulled the battery and tried to power on using recovery, download mode and just power but nothing works.
Anyone have any idea what I can do?
Thank you for your time and help.

New phone on the way!
I was able to get a replacement sent from Sprint. Had to go to a corporate store and have a tech look at the phone and they agreed it was toast...
Luckily they didn't know it was due to my failed attempt to load an unsupported ROM.
Lesson learned... new phone should be in by the end of the week.
I'll be waiting for a supported ROM this time.

What happened is that you flashed a rom that was meant for the international version of the S3 and your on the US version. The only fix I have found is to send it to mobiletechvideos.com. I did and they say they can fix it and maybe save my data I have on it ( I just sent it in)
My fingers are crossed for the data recovery but as far as the phone I am going to send it for a exchange anyway.
Welp, I'm sad to say I just did the same thing too. Should have read. I'm a stinkin noob at this. I installed the I9300 version on a US version phone. Has there been any more development on this? Is the hardware fried, or is there a fix through that mobiletechvideos.com that was mentioned? What was the outcome of that, Taygutta, if you don't mind me re-bringing back up a potentially painful topic?? This thread made me a little sick, since it's my brother's new phone (someone else that knew what they were doing rooted it for him but he didn't like the rom, so I thought I would help him find a few other options to try flashing.)
Anyway, any confirmation that I'm buying my brother a new phone (so I can emotionally prepare for the purchase) or are there some other options?
There's one more thing you can try. There's a little device called a USB Jig. It was made for SGS-2 to clear the yellow triangle and reset flash counts in ODIN mode. It also puts your phone in ODIN mode by simply plugging it into the USB port of a powered down phone. Once in ODIN mode, you can reflash a stock ROM, recovery, etc. You can buy these for around $20 or less on the web.
If this does not work, I'm afraid nothing will.
Good luck.

[Q] Bricked T-mobile S3 can anything be done.

Ok so long story short my S3 is hard bricked. This was my first try at doing my own root and rom install. Im not sure where I messed up at.
1. I got a toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682
2. Backed up all system files with the toolkit, and saved pics to my computer.
3. downloaded oden and clockworks restore (cant remember the name)
4. did factory reset
5. cleared cache
6. then installed the S3 rom I got from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663656
I followed all the instructions as best I could and it still messed up. is there anything I can do to reset it back to default??
Nothing comes on. no lights, no screen, no sound. only thing I get is if I take out the battery and plug it up i get a led light for about 12 secs.
That rom was for the SGS3 i9300--the international version of the phone, which has different hardware. There are many threads here in the Sprint SGSIII forums with warnings to not flash roms for the i9300 on our phones because doing so will permanently brick our phones...

[Q] I think my S4 got bricked

Hi all,
from a big smile to sad face... that is how it's been for the past 24 hours
I rooted the phone then went to back up the stock rom after that wiped data, cache, dalvik then went on trying to instal Omega 4.0 and suddenly i got this message my external sd is unreadable. rebooted the phone and noticed that it takes me directly to the downloader screen. i tried to fix the phone by bringing it back to it's stock condition but no luck. I used Odin and so far it's the only thing the phone responds to but no luck with fixing it... I am trying to download the official stock fw hint this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267895
but it stops and never finishes the whole amount of data... this seems the only way for me revive my phone back to life!
any suggestions what should I do now? it stopped showing the downloader screen now since I flashed the kernel drive for the S4 through Odin and now shows the black screen with the "Samsung Galaxy S4" writing.
by the way it keeps telling me that my phone isn't rooted but I did root it! am using twrp recovery.
I just got the phone from t-mobile 2 days ago and am debating on returning the phone back to them as the phone is still bootable to the recovery and that might revoke my warranty "i guess?"
Is it possible just to walk in to t-mobile store and swap the phone with another one since it didn't pass the 2 weeks returning window? I also got the phone insurance for it.
Please help, I sure need my phone back in working condition...

your bricked, im pretty sure flashing stock wont help you (hasnt from my past experience) but doesnt hurt to give it a try.
i dont think will just give you another one, even though its in the two week window, because its your fault and not the result of hardware failure. the age old "oh i updated and not it wont turn on" probably wont wort because there are little to none reports of that happening. plus (and this is me assuming, correct me if im wrong) but when in download mode it probably shows custom status, which auto voids any warranty. but once again, doesnt hurt to try.

would you suggest me instal the CM? I am debating over here and for sure I will make a good use with the space that can free if I do... hint I have a 64gb msd installed on the phone
the motochopper root didn't go through by the way so I used odin and patched twrp plus did the SetUID restriction thing.
thnx

Well if you want to flash CyanogenMod, make sure its for the m919. I'm kinda lost though, did you still want all the features that Touchwiz has like air gesture, motions etc? Or you don't care for those?

am not really decided about that, does it really matter? all i care about is the blazing speed, low battery consumption and for sure the freedom of moving all the apps to the extSD ... I think all these new features are gimmick and it may take another generation for it to get the best of it. I picked S4 over the HTC one just because the 1080p feature and the funny thing is that I missed on there is no HDMI port on this phone! lol no biggie
tell me more about the touchwiz kernel, is it worth it? I don't see many CRs out there at the moment

Well right now I don't think CM is as stable compared to a TW ROM. FYI there are a lot or ROMS as of now. You have Wicked, Infamous, Darth Stalker, Deathstar. There is also faux and ktoonez kernal available for TW. As for the extsd, you will need to format the card to fat32 for the phone to read it properly.

[Q] I747 Won't boot, even into recovery

Well, I screwed up. I went to install Omega ROM from my rooted Galaxy SIII ATT. I was lazy, and downloaded the first thing I found that looked like a flashable zip, but it turned out to be for the international version. The AROMA installer worked great. It finished, and I pressed the reboot button at the end of the installer. The screen immediately went black. I figured it was no big deal because I had up-to-date backups on my external SD card of every ROM I had flashed. I tried to boot into recovery and restore a backup, but the phone doesn't even start to turn on. The screen stays totally black.
I tried a firmware recovery with Kies, a wipe with ODIN, and a wipe with adb, but none worked because I can't get the device in recovery or download mode.
Like I said, I have all my data backed up, so I have no problem with wiping my phone or getting rid of root and re-rooting and restoring. However, I would like to avoid driving to the nearest AT&T store or shipping my phone off to Samsung because I'm pretty sure my warranty is void.
Sorry for the lengthy post!

Sounds like you hard bricked it. You can try buying a jig but I guarantee you need to ship it off for jtag service

Yeah, sorry to bring it to you, but flashing a different firmware on your device has probably hard bricked it. Maybe try anything you can to reach download mode and ODIN stock firmware. If that fails, try to find a way to get it unbricked, maybe mobiletechvideos, as I've heard good reviews about them. Wish you the best of luck!

Thanks for the reply. I was kinda afraid of this. Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S Download Mode JIG off of mobiletechvideos could help? Or would you just recommend bringing it in to get fixed? Incidentally, should I bring it in to the AT&T store or send it off to Samsung? I hear custom ROMs and the like don't void your Samsung warranty, only your AT&T one.
Thanks!

If your phone is truely hard bricked, a usb jib will not work. I hard bricked mine when a kernel flash went wrong. I sent it in for jtag repair, it only cost me 30 bucks or so to send it in. I sent it in to this person http://www.ebay.com/itm/281117528352?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 mobiletechvideos is a little steep IMO at 60 bucks for jtag.
Well, you guys are great. I took it in to my local AT&T Service Center and they fixed it in 5 minutes for free, even though my warranty was void. I gotta say, I was pretty surprised with the awesome service.
Thanks a million!

good for yu, and lucky they did it without asking unecessary stupid questions cuz you didnt have a warranty
anywz lay off the rooting and try stock for a while, its stable, not as fast as custom Roms, crazy battery life (depends on how yu, use it but nothing to worry abut stock has the best battery performance), samsung killa features and its completely safe and better than custom roms that might sht your phone after a while...........:silly:
