I must have mixed up between cwm and stock recovery.
I think I have stock recovery, cuz I have stock rom and rooted the rom with cf-auto-root.
how do i get cwm?

Download this and flash with ODin for PDA tab (this is for N7100, if you have N7105 let me know)

I have the same issue like yours few days ago and i manage to solve it. The problem lies with the root file. Try not to root with cf-auto-root file, search and get CWM (cwm6-root-n7100.zip). It works like charm after the installation.... Good Luck Bro =DD

Problem is not in root file, problem is not understanding by yourself
Cf Auto root roots device but keeps recovery stock
while rooting with CWM , it adds advanced recovery to device.
Here is difference between different method of rooting

NANDROID error

Okay, I used the toolkit to NANDROID backup, 3x 5 minutes apart to be safe. Now that I want to go back after flashing a rom that is force closing eafh restore is throwing an error from the beginning using CWM. Im wanting the stock kernel and rom.
I am aware this was probably user error, nevertheless I need a few pointers.
Thanks in advance,

Yes, I use Twrp with N8013. But if I'm plan to flashing all time I use CWM which is very easy to use and if I want for warranty all I do restore to stock. Toolkit , Twrp ,CWM are same depend on your experience and your taste.

How can I flash? Do I need root? If I flash 4.1.2 then after a while make a factory reset, does it reset to 4.1.2 or 4.1.1?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
If you want to flash full rom, no factory reset needs. Just download rom for your region (not compulsory from your region, you can flash any) flash rom using odin. You don't need to have root.
After flashing rarely your device gets stuck at samsung logo, in such case you have to reboot to recovery and have to factory reset. Once you have updated to 4.1.2 it will remain 4.1.2 even after factory reset.

I believe you can still use the adb method. You just need to flash the previous version on top of the one you have right now. And you should be done.

Yellow COM indication is an older (but usable) version like v1.85. You must have used v..3, where blue is the new yellow. It's ok.

Indication of a bad download. You could try redownloading the update. MD5 & SHA Checksum Utility can save this trouble by checking downloaded files before attempting to flash.
