Noob question - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have a really quick and easy question. Im planning to buy an at&t gs3 phone from craiglist but im planning to use it on a different carrier, gosmart, what are the things I have to look for? Im sorry this sounds very elemental but I have always used sprint and I really dont know much about sim card.
Thank you very much for your time!

At&t phones operate on gsm. Make sure gosmart is a gsm carrier. Also, depending on the carrier, you may not see LTE speeds

Well i assume you would have to unlock it which is now illegal without carrier permission so you would have to call at&t and have them unlock if it doesn't already come unlocked

Gosmart uses a sim card( tmobile) but im not worried about lte speeds. What im worried is at&t claiming back their phone. Now this guya in craiglist says he bought the gs3 and then his job gave him the iphone, so he has no use for it. Will at&t will automatically unlock it when he got the iphone?

Also how can I tell the phone its unlock or not? Anyway to check that?

Take it for a ride around the neighborhood. Maybe take it for some ice cream.
It's a phone, bro. Do what you do with it.
Wait... what??
Won't work, different cell technologies

It works, just pop in the sim and power cycle. Theres a non verizon sim notification, but i'll figure out how to get rid of that soon enough. I would assume flashing a tmobile rom will do the trick

Never flash a ROM not meant for your device.
The Verizon phone looks for a cdma network that T-Mobile doesn't have, they use gsm. Two different technologies

You can flash roms from other provifders if the models are identical.
AT&T and T-Mobile roms can be flash back to back just make sure your modems are correct for your provider.
U CANT DO IT.
SELL UR GS3
AND FIND A TMO MODEL ON CRAIGSLIST!!!
I know it sucks, but thats just the way it.
Okay n00bs leave..
Seriously do some research before posting. My SPRINT HTC touch pro 2 works just fine on T-Mobile. So stop giving false info.
I found this. it may enable more than just roaming on GSM. I haven't read the entire thread or tried it myself well cause I has T-Mobile.
But it appears there may be some way to get it to work.
However from what I read.. seems you would be better off selling and buying T-Mobile (or possibly at&t if your area has T-Mobile 1900MHz) off Craigslist.

okay so a smartphone on edge = it WORKING?
ur the noob, who the hell gets a 2012 smart phone to use 3rd world data speeds?
GTFO here with that non-sense.
Doing whatever method posted is a waste of time.
Sell it, buy a T-mobile GS3 is the BEST option and there's no denying that.
Calling ppl noobs... is this 2005?
I had brand new windows phone from verizon before I moved to T-mobile and sadly i had let go my wphone, but I'm happy with my droid way way happy, sell it and you be fine just let it go.

Lol yes smart phone on edge does mean it works! In 2012 not everyone lives in a 3g/4g zone not to mention of one doesn't have a data plan or the 200mb plan wouldn't really matter. You were wrong so just admit it and don't be a sore loser

Global ready?

Hey. Sorry im really for the Verizon forum but I have a quick question. Im about to root my friends phones who are about to go back to bolivia and I was wondering if this would be needed at all or is the at&t phone already global ready meaning they can just put a sim in the phone and it would function perfectly?

Rooting doesn't unlock the phone... His phone won't work on other carriers unless it is network unlocked.. Completely different from rooting.

Also in the forums in here are the instructions to do just that as well. The unlocking can be done without root from what I remember.

It also depends on the frequencies Bolivia uses. If it's the same as the US/Canada, it should be fine. But as others had mentioned, make sure the phone is carrier unlocked to you can slap on a SIM card and rock and roll.
hey sorry about the late response but how do you go about getting a phone carrier unlocked?

[Q] Questions about unlocking and more.

I have an iPhone 5 and I'm on AT&T and have it up for trade.
Someone has a tmobile note 2 and wants to trade
He said he can get them both unlocked. And the tmobile will work fine
On AT&T.
My questions are will it work and if I want to flash custom Roms will this mess up the unlocking?
I have searched all over and can't tell some people say everything but LTE works and some say not.
It's confusing. I need the phone to work on AT&T and not have to worry about messing up the unlock.
It should still be unlocked but you should get the code just in case.

Once it's unlocked, it's unlocked.
Just make sure that note is fully paid for or you may end up with blacklisted phone

Flash for Verizon?

I'm sorry if this is in the forum somewhere but I couldn't fine it. Is there a way to flash a LS970 to verizon? Not 4g since I am not going to solder on a sim tray but for just 3g service?
You might be able to get it to work on page plus but certainly not Verizon without doing something illegal I think. Search around, I'm sure you'll find your answer

I'm guessing you can ESN Swap, Or "ESN Clone" with an active Verizon phone. But Verizon LTE operates on the 700mhz Spectrum, This phone is programmed only for 1900mhz LTE.
I dont care about verizon or page plus or who ever...
I just would like to learn how so when and if the time comes i put this to rest i can flash it to something else and dump it off....

[Q] help with galaxy s4 not registered to network

gf reported her phone lost because it was cracked, samsung sent her a new one so now i want her old one. I put in my sim card but it says "Not register to network" im thinking maybe t-mobile blocked the phone somehow since it was reported lost but I figured there was a work around. Friend told me unlocking the phone and setting it to international radios may help but i have no idea how to do this since im new to the android community. Switching from iphone to android! So yeah, please help!
White T-mobile Galaxy S4 on jellybean, updating it to kitkat though.
Yup, T-Mobile blocked it.. There's no legal way around it, maybe your gf calling T-Mobile to unblock it, but they'll probably charge her full price for the one they sent her.. You could try using a different carrier, but it could end up being blocked again.. You could also sell it to someone in another country, blacklist won't go past the US

international radios, gonna unlock the sim. My gfs mom is probably going out of the country so if i unlocked it, she could use it outside the US right?and if she can i take it as she'd have to use a carrier other than t-mobile to do this though?
You can't use international radios.. And I don't know, but I would think so, using a local carrier should be fine

There are services that will fix this for you. I payed 35$ for my blocked tmobile s4 to be repaired.
I did this with an HTC EVO 3D. It was locked for 2 years so I flashed the phone to a different carrier and it worked. You might have problems with different features but it is posibble to still use the phone. Find a cellular store that will flash it. They normally charge around 50 dollars, give or take.
