galaxy note ii running latest nightly cm10.1 (20130221)
otterbox defender
callers are complaining that they hear themselves echoed back
when i remove the outer rubber skin of the otterbox, problem goes away
on previous phones, disabling "noise suppression" has fixed the problem (problem seems to come from the noise suppression mike picking up the earpiece sound in the otterbox)
turning on/off "noise suppression" on cm10.1 on gn2 has no effect
i'm wondering if perhaps disabling "noise suppression" is broken on current nightlies
if so, does anyone know of any way to manually disable it?
I cut out the covers on the headset and charger jacks and it helped.

Hello
I ordered 2 tpu gel cases from ebay and now i have aserious echo problem, the other side can here himself speaking.
If i could post links out side of this site (i'm anew user here), you could see the cases that i taking about.
Do you know this problem?
Could you suggest me how to resolve it? maybe to cut more space for the mic or something like that...
thnks
Anyone?
Anyone?
Do i the only one who have this problem?
when i remove the case, the echo gone.
but i need the case..
I have a TPU-case but not such problem. Mayne yuo could make the holes bigger...
There's a small hole on the top near the earphone jack for the noise-cancelling mic; maybe the TPU case is covering it. You could try peeling back the edge of the TPU case near the jack so as to expose the mic.
If that makes a difference, you could punch a small hole in the case to accommodate the noise-cancelling mic. You could use a small plastic or metal tube -- maybe the end of a ballpoint pen's ink reservoir -- as a punch.
Echo problem as well here
Hello, I have the same problem with my SGSII. Just got it yesterday. But here I have the problem with or without the TPU case. My TPU case has a small hole near the headphones jack.
Any ideas? And is your problem solved?
EDIT: Tried also speakerphone, then it is all normal. Speakerphone uses the mic on top near the headphone jack, I just found out. It looks like a faulty mic to me (or covered with something).
EDIT 2: Fixed, although people say that with my previous phone the quality was better. Reset to factory defaults did the trick for me. It seems that the firmware update the other day (used Kies) had messed something up, that is my guess.
New device
Well, I kept holding the problem. Yesterday in the morning all was fine, in the noon people kept telling they hear me with bad quality and an echo. I went back to the store, explained the situation, they gave me a new device. I can clearly see the difference in the microphone hole .. the first phone it was closed, here it is more open. Problem should be solved now, I hope. I can say that I tested the quality myself and I can hear the difference. The sound of voice is more clear and louder.
Same problem recently started with mine. Gel case and upgrade with KE7 around the same time. Now everyone that calls complains of echo. Case off to test that when i get home from work. Hopefully update tonight.

I have the same problem with my galaxy s ii
I have the same problem, with tpu case.
Hello,
I have the same problem with case, when I remove it everything become normal.
How did you solve the problem? Please share your experiences.
I have exactly the same problem. I was first using one of the TPU cases with a small hole on the top. As people on the other side was heavily complaining of echo I replaced it with one which is completely open on the top and on the bottom like this. It is actually a very nice case, but I realized that the problem is less evident but it is still there...!
Even if it not obstructing at all any of the microphone/speaker holes, if I raise the call volume I tested without any doubt that a (low but present) echo can be heard on the other side. The echo completely disappear if I remove the case
Actually what really makes me wonder is how this can happen, and I will really appreciate any suggestion...
I have a TPU case, and when noise reduction is turned on, it echos on the other end like crazy. However, if I take the case off there is no issue, ditto with turning the noise reduction.
However, I'd like my phone to be protected and I don't want to have to manually turn off noise reduction every time I get/make a call.
Anyone have any experiences?
the problem is with the phone. not all s2 will behave like that. i had the same issue. got the phone replaced and it was fine after that
What style TPU case do you have? I have the SGP Ultra Capsule and the person on the other end doesn't complain of any echoes.
Check to see all of the microphone holes are open...
Every case I use causes it to happen..the mesh one is probably best one to go for, certainly don't notice complaints of echo when using it.

Have/had the same issue, echo for the other person with every type of case (including official Samsung Mesh case). Permanently disabling noise reduction is the only thing that helped with me. I used the fix from VillainROM's VRTweaks which seems to solve the problem.

It is the case meshing which is responsible, it covers the noise reduction mic and hence, the echo! for this either disable the noise reduction feature OR cut a good size of mesh around the mic! @Tiim - you are quite right!
I have a full body skin on my ATT Galaxy S3 (bestskinsever).
I noticed that when I make phone calls, the other party cannot hear my voice. Is it possible that the screen protector is causing an issue with the proximity sensor? Anyone else having this issue? Any ideas to fix?
with the what? lol. Make sure the protector is not covering the camera. aha
Check if the mic is being covered by the protection or something else.
Good catch! The skin was covering the tiny mic-hole on the bottom of the phone. Either the skin was cut wrong, or I put it on incorrectly :good:
Hi,
I've recently moved from a SGS3 to GN2 and I've noticed that people I talk to are constantly complaining about the poor sound quality, including echo of their own voice and cracks... on my side (GN2) the call sound quality is great...
So I did some closer tests, and figure out that yes there is some echo on the caller side, but not always.
But worse, the caller hears a lot of cracking and scratching sounds... and I just realised that this is when I move my phone or move my hand/fingers along the case (I have a cheap silicone case covering the back and side of the phone).
When I remove the silicone case, the annoing scratches and cracks (caused by my fingers manipulating the phone) are almost gone !
So, I'm seeking for:
- advice about a good protective case that wouldn't create amplification of sounds in the mic, notably when I touch the case or move a finger around it
- a way to reduce mic sensitivity during calls, because the GN2 seems to capture the faintest noise and amplifies it to the caller...
Please help because this is killing me, I don't dare to use my GN2 for phone calls
Other than that, I love my GN2 !

I advice you to try another Modem. By the way, what is your region? Have you sure you are using the proper Modem for your country or region? There is a thread where you gonna find all available modems out there (at least almost all).

Thank you for your help. I don't think it it's the modem.
But I'm increasingly convinced this is related to using a protective case. I've already tested with two of them:
with a protective case all surrounding noises are strongly amplified through the bottom microphone including the caller's own voice (hence the echo during calls). When I remove the protective case, then the sound quality is just perfect on both sides. Also, if I am using the protective case but switch on the speakers, then my issue disappears too because then there is a switch from the bottom to the top microphone...

Hello.
I have a gsm galaxy nexus and about a month ago it started to make a strange noise when buzzing. Like some plastic resonates. I took off the back cover, strengthened the screws, checked if the battery resonates but nothing helped. The sound cames from the buttom of my phone.
+ My girlfrend has the same issue with her galaxy s2..
I wasn't brave enough to disassemle it but maybe I should try it? It is the fault of the vibration motor? And if it is can I replace it by myself?
Thanks for every answer!
