I'm using Swifkey 4 (BTW, if you aren't using this, you're missing out) and randomly the keyboard started to revert back to the default after I reboot. Very annoying.
Any suggestions?

It's an issue with SwiftKey. It's not sticking with reboots. Hopefully they fix it in the next release.

In the meanwhile (I don't think it's Swiftkey's problem) All you need to do is freeze the stock keyboard and it'll stay on whichever keyboard you assign. You are not the only one having the default keyboard always muscle in after a reboot!
Good Luck!
Aloha.....
Yeah I'm having the same issue, was working fine on SwiftKey Flow Beta. I just uninstalled the android and swyoe keyboard that came with wicked.

If it's not a SwiftKey problem, my phone just coincidentally started doing this the second I installed SwiftKey 4.. And coincidentally stops doing it whenever I set a different keyboard as default.

How do you "freeze the stock" Keyboard?

Either uae titanium backup and look for the keyboard, click on it and you have an option to freeze. Or go to settings>application manager> swipe all the way to the right and look for the keyboard, click on it and it gives you the option of disabling it.
Also I did a fresh install of my rom and now it's sticking after reboots

It is a Google problem that primarily affects people using Android 4.1.1. The play store encrypts paid apps to mnt/asec. The problem is that when android 4.1.1 boots up, it establishes services like keyboards before asec is mounted. This means that SwiftKey isn't seen until after the default keyboard is established. It is supposed to be fixed in 4.1.2.
I cannot speak for the previously mentioned workaround (either for our against) , but I have one that has worked for me. Backup your SwiftKey installation with TiBu, uninstall it, reboot, then restore SwiftKey with TiBu. I hope one of these solutions work for you.

I've the same problem with android 4.1.2 MA2 and galaxy s3.
Probably it depends on Swiftkey and not Android itself....

FYI: I had he same issue with SlideIt keyboard on 4.1.1. Froze it with TiBu as suggested and it is gone now. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just noticed this was the T-Mobile galaxy s3 forum, but I found this through Google, but on my stock at&t I747 when I reboot not only is Swype no longer default, but most of my defaults are reset, so I asked someone @ the at&t store, and they nonchalantly replied, "yeah that's normal". So, reading this response that it's a 4.1.1 issue on xda puts my mind at ease.
I can now just chock it up to another one of those wonderful phenomena (bugs) on this device.
Please excuse any typos, as I wrote this using my gs3 using chrome
If you are rooted, the problem is quite trivial to resolve.
Thank God the guy you spoke to was intelligent enough to give you the right answer. Hes right. Swiftkey Team said any OS under 4.1.2 was affected by that bug.

I use ADW paid launcher and when I reboot, I have to choose the default launcher each time. I have Swype and I have the same problem. I've reset the device to full factory a few times and the problem still comes back. I thought that it was only me.
Glad to know I'm not alone.
I reinstalled the rom and didn't choose samsung keyboard but the other one listed, nothing else selected and reboot the phone. Installed SwiftKey and don't have problems anymore with swift not sticking after reboot.

I am tying to use gingerbread keyboard but it keeps switching back to swype .... Should i just use the samsung keyboard and wait for the update? Or is there a way to make it stop switching to swype?
You can go to settings and uncheck swype keyboard if you don't want to use it.
I have done that several times and it keeps going back to Swype ... Its like my phone is forcing me to use swype when im using the gingerbread keyboar.. When i keep on the samsung keyboard, it seems to stay on that . And it doesnt switch back to swype... But i dont want to use the samsung keyboard, it sucks!!

If you are rooted, freeze Swipe in Titanium Backup or some other utility. You could also uninstall it (still need root).
If you are not rooted, search the Market for another keyboard and install it and use it. SwiftKey is great (imo).
This is why many root their phones.
Thank you so much!! Forgot that i have the ability to Freeze apps now that i have rooted my s2.... i love this forum! Very active and helpful ...better than any other android forum website.
So i uninstalled Swype ... Nowni am trying to use gingerbread keyboard , but keeps switching back to Samsung keyboard.... Seems like my phone keeps rejecting gingerbread kb ... Is this a app issue?

Not sure if it is, but you could also freeze the Samsung keyboard to stop it. Just make sure you have at least one keyboard installed.
I don't know if you have tried it, but, the Swipe Beta has Dragon speech recognition build in. I am using it and I hardly ever have to correct it. It is really good. If you want to try it search the internet for Swipe Beta. You will have to register with them but it really worth it.
Also, as mentioned in my last post, Swift Key is really good. It uses the email and texts in your phone to help its prediction process turning the typing process into only a few taps per message. Definitely worth a try.
Problem solved .. thank u .. close thread
Youre clearing tasks... so that kills the gb keyboars. So it goes to smasung keypad

Edit: I turned off word prediction and it works again.
I updated Swype Beta and now I can't add words to my Swype dictionary. It doesn't give me the "Add to Dictionary" option and holding the word I want doesn't bring anything up. On top of all that I can't even add words in the Swype settings. Any ideas?
The newest beta should add a word automatically once you typed it in the first time.

I have the most current version (I actually updated for the second time in a week today), but still new words. I did notice sometimes it will add the word to the Android Personal Dictionary.

Strange that turning next word prediction off would do the trick... glad you found a workaround.
This sounds like an issue that would be resolved by re-installing, if you are looking for a more long-term solution, though.
I would suggest backing up your dictionary via "Backup & Sync" and then going for a fresh install of the Swype Beta.

I agree it was a strange solution, but what i noticed is with word prediction the "add to dictionary" option would flash for a second and then disappear behind the predicted word.
Other than that it worked great until i updated. After the update the option to add to dictionary was missing again. I used TB to restore the data and that fixed it for now though.
Let me know what you think.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the install prior to the update was a fresh install.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled Swype and left word prediction on. Works fine adding words to dictionary.

For some reason, it still doesn't work for me. I am running Android build JOP40D on Nexus 4. Swype version is 1.3.5.10176. Tried unchecking "Next word prediction" and "Detect end-of-speech" both as well as individual option. Does anyone else still see this issue?
For the lucky folks who could resolve the issue, can one of you please post your Swype and Android versions?
Thanks!
I've been having the same issue for the past few updates. I wanna say since JB 4.2.1. Wiping data or reinstalling will temporarily fix the problem, but after a day or so I'll notice words like bootloader aren't able to be swyped and I'll check the dictionary in Swype settings and it'll be blank....
I've checked the Swype forums and others have this same issue.
Also with the latest 1.4 Swype it's starting to hang when I start Swyping.

Got latest Swype update notice this morning. After upgrading to new version Beta 1.4, the dictionary seems to work. Finally, I can see "Add to dictionary" option and it actually added stuff. It also recognizes names from Contacts. The full version string is 1.4.0.11523.
The lag I mentioned seems to have disappeared....
How'd you get it to recognize contacts?

The contact names is working automatically. I don't see any way to enable/disable it either.

there's been some folks dealing with this same issue. i've attached the most recent thread. i posted a fix that works for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064541
correct. since the play store installs apps in a location (on your JB device) that is not immediately scanned during the first part of boot up, thats why the stock keyboard is loaded. however, to fix this on my wife's unrooted/stock S3, i found the actual swiftkey apk then downloaded and installed it onto the phone. this placed the apps info in the correct storage location that is seen on boot up. i do not condone downloading apps you have not paid for however i did this for her as she and i have both paid for swiftkey on all our phones/tablets when it initially released on the play store. i dont have this swiftkey issue on my s3 as it is running a custom rom. cheers

I have tried everything. Clearing the settings, Restarting, shutting down, booting into recovery, but nothing gets my auto correct back. Just to be clear I am referring to when I, for example, would type 'hellp' into messaging, and it automatcially gets fixed when I hit the space bar. I'm on Wicked btw
Any ideas?

LOL, I spend hours looking for menu to turn it off, since I could not type any word that was not in dictionary and corrections were almost always wrong, for your example hellp could be misspelled hello but also help, hell etc. So stupid question: is it still turn on?
Im not sure what you mean , "is it still turn on" ?
Dictionary? I dont even have a dictionary app in this rom.
Ive tried all the settings, including resetting them, so every thing *should* be turned on

Have you changed keyboards? I had this happen on an HTC and reinstalling the stock keyboard worked for me even though I was using swiftkey.
I assume it worked when you first installed your custom rom?
I think the other guy meant the built in dictionary that's part of the OS or keyboard, not an app. That's the library that lets auto-correct work.

I hadn't changed keyboards, but I have now
I installed swiftkey, and its working the way it should.
I don't know how to re-install the stock keyboard btw - do you mean just switch the keyboard and input method to Samsung keyboard, or is it something else? Also, yes it did work when I first installed the rom.

I just asked this awesome community for the stock HTC Sence keyboard .apk and they served it up within hours, for the Gnote3 just do a search for the latest touchwiz keyboard and that should turn up an apk.
But it sounds like swiftkey fixed it and I'm pretty sure you'll like it more than the stock keyboard, letting it learn from old SMSs/facebook/twitter/gmail/etc will help it a lot too.
Here is a quick tutorial:
I get an error trying to install this over the stock google keyboard.
Try this.
This is the one which was available in Google Play Store, but was removed...
You don't need to uninstall stock keyboard, just install it as another app...
The guy who posted it on the google play store who got it removed because it was the actual stock android L keyboard and thats not allowed, posted it on amazon's app store. This one can be alongside the google keyboard with no problem.

I've been facing some problems using that keyboard since 3 days ago (before that it worked flawlessly.) Every time I press on a text field the Google Voice Input screen appears. I had to uninstall it so I could use the normal keyboard.
