[Q] Mac OS Yakju flash Help!! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello Everyone. I am completely new to android and i understand a bit but only a bit, not much. I have been trying to flash the newest firmware (4.2.2) and i got all of the files prepared and I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895<br /><br />[HOW-TO]%20[GSM%20&%20CDMA]%20Return%20to%20stock%20for%20ALL%20Galaxy%20Nexus%20phones%20%28latest%20JOP40D%29
I've rebooted my device like how it says (with the android guy open for surgery). Ihave all of the files ready in one directory, but i don't understand how to open a command prompt in the same directory which holds all the files like how it says. I really need a good and easy, quick response. Also, will i use terminal or console or something else??
Thank You in Advance!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP9ZDWmbLVM&feature=youtube_gdata_playerHere's a video I made back when I had my nexus s. Same presses applies to the galaxy nexus. Just follow the steps

thanks, but thats not what i was looking for, i want to use htis guide, and my only problem or question is how to open a command prompt in the directory i made as in step 1 part C. i just want to make sure the computer sees my device, but i don't know how to do this.

Could try this (found after a quick Google search)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366806
Obviously the file names will be different as the image will be the latest 4.2.2 as opposed to the one used in the guide but it still applies

You have to open a terminal window on your mac...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

OP do you know the path to your destination folder?
When you launch terminal window your default localisation is: YOUR_USER_NAME folder. I have no idea where do you keep your image files. Mine is located at Desktop/Nexus/Stock/422_jdq39* . The easiest way to navigate is in my case just to type:
cd desktop/nexus/stock/422_jdq39
once you're there you can start ./fastboot flash ....
*remember to copy fastboot file to that folder

HTC Desire Boot Animation [Ubuntu Guide]

Thought I would post as I'm not sure if anyone has tried this yet but I used the nexus 1 bootloader anamation found here and it works perfectly.
So for anyone who wants to do it them selves heres a guide once you have rooted your desire follow these steps.
1. Put the nexus-bios-boot.zip onto your sd card.
2. Load up into ubuntu.
3. Turn off your desire.
4. Turn it on again while holding down the 'volume down' button this time. The screen will look similar to before, but will say 'HBOOT' instead of 'FASTBOOT'. Use the volume buttons and the power button to select the 'RECOVERY' option. You should then see a screen with a red triangle - at this point, plug it into your usb.
5. Now you need to unzip the 'push files' zip that you downloaded.
6. copy pushfiles folder to the desktop
7. open terminal
8. type this into the terminal window
Code:
cd ~/Desktop/pushfiles
9. then type
Code:
sudo ./recovery-linux.sh
10. In the recovery image (moving around using the optical trackball), select 'Flash zip from sdcard' and choose the nexus-bios-boot.zip
11. Confirm then reboot desire.
I would like to point out that none of this is my own work I simply compiled all of the above information from others work to make a simple guide. All credits goto Paul @ MoDaCo for rooting and his guide and I am unsure of who actually made the boot screen. But the link is at the top of the post.
Below are all of the files you will need to get started
and here is a quick vid
nice one, thanks
Installed this too, looks smart!
Dont know if anyone noticed but as its booting it says nexus one lol I have posted in the original thread maybe someone who knows what they are doing will edit it and make one specifically for the desire.
Hi,
Great work!
Would this work for all Boot screens for Android?
Regards
Mo
I'm honestly not sure this is my first android phone. I saw the boot animation thread a few weeks ago an thought as soon as we have root I'm going to try it and to my sunrise it worked. I would guess any existing nexus one animations would work on the desire fine but I an not 100% sure. If you find any others I would be happy to try them and post my results.

Thanks buddy.
I'm looking forward to it.
It would be nice to have a bootup with the actual android on the screen lol
I quite like the Open Eclair boot animation. The one with the logo exploding into a million androids that fly at the screen.

as you can restore the original boot?
Thanks
I have not tried but as the boot animation is loaded onto the rom I would guess if you restored an original rom I would set it back to "how it was ment to be". I am jus grabbing the files I need now and will test a few more out and post my results + vids.

I have just tried all three and get the same message saying... E: No signiture E: Verification failed
I also tried another from the original thread I linked to the nexus-boot-apple 1 and it worked fine. Possible they need signing properly and then they would work but dont really know enough about android phones atm to really sepectualte.
Edit: Just been told that the files you linked to do not get flashed but you push them over via adb.
bootanimation.zip
Just a wierd question.
I tried to create a bunch of png files to create an animation.
Numbered from 00001 to 00009
I placed those in a folder named android.
Edited the desc.txt file to:
480 800 1
p 1 1 android
Zipped this to bootanimation.zip and placed this zip file in /data/local
When rebooting the phone i get a nice black screen.
Now what am i doing wrong in this progress?
Greetings from a vastloper
You need to re-sign the package. To do that just zip up the 'data' and 'META-INF' directories then use the following guide to sign it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3175518&postcount=2
i signed it also.
Didnt work either.
Do i need to change the meta.inf file ?
Thanks for the reply
It shouldn't be a file called meta.inf, it should be a directory named META-INF.
If you use nexus-bios-boot.zip as an example (from Post #1) then in the META-INF directory should be a few signature files:
CERT.RSA
CERT.SF
MANIFEST.MF
(delete these - they will be recreated when you sign the file)
and subdirectories com -> google -> android containing the update-script
(which can be left alone)
Do you have the update-script in the correct place? Zip it all up, sign and apply. Any change?
Might be a problem with bootanimation.zip actually.
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/25774-custom-boot-animation-figured-out.html
I think the folder with the .pngs needs to be called part0 and part1:
"the folder part 0 is the part that does not loop. part 1 will loop after part 0 plays and while phone is still loading."
Final tidbit...
You could always just use adb to push the bootanimation.zip to the correct place.
No need to worry about signing or update-script! Of course you have to do this from recovery mode after mounting the system, so the full code you would run:
Code:
adb shell mount /system
followed by:
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/

CRT Screen Off Mod

Here is an interesting article that will help you if you want CRT screen Off animation like in Nexus S:
http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/enable-crt-animation
Worked with no problems on my SGC with Rogers ROM.
I actually used NinjaMorph to package the modified resources.arsc into framework-res.apk, but I assume the original method will work too.

Probably no. Most likely you will end up with phone freezing on the Samsung logo at boot. framework-res.apk files are not interchangeable between models, maybe not even between firmware versions for the same phone.
Can you post a step by step guide then? I can't really understand anything here
The step-by-step instructions from the link in the first post are pretty much what i did. Read the comment by ravenstark - if you mount the filesystem with root explorer there will be no need to execute the commands in red in section 8.
The instructions from the link in your post cover steps 3-7. You still have to download the file to your PC (1), decompile it (2) and upload it back to the phone once you are done with it (8).
For the first step which terminal do you use??
(Free Your Android guide)
adb. If you don't have you can download it from here. It is part of the SDK and probably the most essential tool.
The command is exactly as written there

What do you mean? If you're using a Windows PC, then just open up a cmd prompt. You should read the guides at the beginning of that page so you know how to setup adb and the apk tool.
The big picture is this. Connect your pc to computer, pull file from phone to PC using adb, modify file on PC, push file back to phone using adb.
For what it's worth, here's a thread I wrote quite a long time ago, some is not applicable for the Glide, but most of it still applies. If you're going to be mucking around in your phone it's best to know how to do a few things first. Read Before Flashing.
When I try and open SDK or AVD (what's the difference :| ) then I just get a quick terminal screen that closes.
It would be appreciated if someone could just create a flashable CWM version >_<
I hate my inexperience @ this. It keeps saying this isn't "adb" isn't recognized, but I've downloaded it! How can I check?!

Ok, so what have you done so far?
What should be done. Assuming you're using Windows, install the Android SDK. Once installed, launch the SDK Manager. Then from the list of installable options, choose the Platform Tools and I always like to get the drivers. Once done, you will have this path, CrogramFiles(x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools, now you could add this path to your variables in Windows, which would be easiest, or copy the Platform-tools folder to C:. Then plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
Now, if you added the Path to your variables, just go Start>Run>cmd, and at the cmd prompt type adb devices. If you see a device you're good.
If you copied the Platform-tools folder over, then Start>Run>cmd, and in the cmd prompt type,
C:
then
cd platform-tools
then
adb devices
Beyond that, can't really help, never use apk tool. Good luck.

Attached to this post is a CWM update with CRT Screen OFF and battery icon with percent for ROGERS ROM. I'm not sure this will work on AT&T ROM.
Make a backup before applying this update so you can restore if you end up stuck on SAMSUNG logo on boot.
Apologies to the author of the battery mod - I couldn't find his post to link to here...

Hopefully the file tcfx44 posted works for you. Either way, I highly suggest you learn how to use adb and some other tools if you plan on flashing your phone in the future. It could prove useful some day.
Will this apply over OsiMood? I really am not sure if I am using the Rogers, but apparently I am because in XDA App it says I927-R and same with a benchmark.
Doesn't work for OsI mood 2.1.30 or whatever version was released today. I don't want to give up the amazing UI and stuff of OSi. I'm working fine though, so doesn't look like the install failed or bricked. Any revisions?

Anyone having problems powering off and crashing GO Launcher? (then run through media scanner, etc..)
Could you remove the battery mod? I don't like it compared to OSiMood battery >_>
Finally, sorry for demanding so much, could you also put CRT on and ICS animations here?
Sorry!!!!!

can someone help me update without losing root?

ok, i recently got galaxy nexus.
it took me 6 hours to unlock it and root it. (yes i'm a total noob.. i followed the guide exactly but my computer won't install the drivers and took me more than 10 tries to finally do it).
so my nexus is rooted and running 4.0.2 NON yakuju build.
now i want to update to 4.0.4 yakuju build without losing root.
what's the simplest idiot-proof method of doing this?
i searched all over but couldn't find a simple guide.
please help me, thank you.

Geez 6 hours...it takes me no more than 10 minutes to unlock and root. By the way this is a question so next time you might want to stick this in the Q&A threads.
Anyway, if your unlocked you should have a recovery or something on your phone to flash ROMS, I think there is a stock rooted ZIP floating around you can use to update. But use the search and browse the development threads I'm sure you will find something.

thanks but my phone is not verizon.
i got it from wind mobile... one that needs sim card inside..
is there a guide for wind mobile galaxy nexus?
Just use OTA RootKeeper to backup SU and restore it after you update.
ok i downloaded ota root keeper.
but how do i update to 4.0.4 YAKUJU?
sorry but i need a step by step instruction..
Now that you have the drivers installed, updating to anything should be easy. If you lose root, then just use the GNex toolkit to get it back. Using the toolkit, it should take somewhere around 90 seconds to root your phone.
ok that's good,
but is there a clear step-by-step instruction on how to go from 4.0.2 non-yakuju to 4.0.4 yakuju without losing root?
because all this is pretty confusing to me.
i need a step by step guide... for example:
step 1: go here and download this file
step 2: connect your phone to your pc
step 3: put this file into ...
etc..

If you want to switch to yakju 4.0.4, see here.
If you want to update your non-yakju build to 4.0.4, see if the update is available here.
To root, after either method (given your bootloader is unlocked), follow method 1 here.
thank you efrant,
so if i understand correctly, i should follow your 2nd link and just skip the 1st link, right?
and how do i find out what version mine is?
i know it's not official yakju but i don't know if it's yakjuxx or yakjukkk or something else.

No, that's not what I was saying.
I was saying if you want to convert to yakju, follow the first link. You will be on yakju and 4.0.4. I would recommend this.
If you do not want to switch to yakju (i.e., you want to keep your current non-yakju build), then see if the 4.0.4 update is available for your build in the second link.

hi,
ok i'm stuck.
i'm doing the part C of your guide.
you said extract the file and there should br 6 files ending with .img.
so i got those 6 files and put them into a folder (i named the folder 'yakju').
but where does this folder go?
do i put this folder onto my phone's sd card? or do i just leave it on my pc (they are inside my 'document' folder).
then your guide says : 8) Open a command prompt in the same directory and do the following:
but where do i open a command prompt?
in C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools?

Everything stays on your PC. You need to put the files from the attachment in the same folder as the .img files. Then you open a command prompt in THAT directory.
Did you read the whole post before starting like it was stated at the beginning?

ok i open the command prompt in that directory and when i type 'fastboot devices', it says 'fastboot is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file'.

That's probably because you didn't unzip the files in the attachment into the same directory.

ok, i followed your download link, and downloaded 'Factory Images "yakju" for Galaxy Nexus "maguro"'
then i got 'yakju-imm76i-factory-8001e72f.tar' file... but your guide says .tgz file?
so maybe i downloaded a wrong file.
anyway, then i unzipped it with 7zip and i got this folder called 'yakju-imm76i-factory-8001e72f'
inside that folder, i get this file 'yakju-imm76i-factory-8001e72f' with no file extension.
then i upzipped that file with 7zip and i get this folder named 'yakju-imm76i'.
inside that folder, i have bootloader-maguro-primela03.img, flash-all.sh, flash-base.sh, radio-maguro-i9250xxla02.img and image-yakju-imm76i.zip.
so i unzip image-yakju-imm76i.zip and i get this folder called image-yakju-imm76i and inside that folder i have 5 files : userdata.img, android-info.txt, boot.img, recovery.img, and system.img..
so where do i open a command prompt?
right now my folder structure/tree looks like this:
libraries -> documents -> yakju-imm76i-factory-8001e72f -> yakju-imm76i-factory-8001e72f~ -> yakju-imm76i -> image-yakju-imm76i
ok i think i may have found the problem.
your guide says: '2) Download the attachment from this post and extract the contents to the directory created in step 1.'
but there is no actual link.
can you please verify?
Lol. Think of the bright side guys. At least you're not doing it for him. You'd probably be getting calls at 4am. No offense op. First time is the hardest. But after the first the learning curve is easier.
let it be.
hi @rbiter.
can you please verify?
efants' guide says "'2) Download the attachment from this post and extract the contents to the directory created in step 1.''
but there is no actual link... right?
Scroll down and download that. Extract those files, platform tools into the folder you just made. That platform tools will be very important from here on out.

[Q] Gnex stuck in fastboot mode

Hi XDA users,
I am in a strange position right now, it is already two years I browse the site, and root and install custom roms on my phones.
Right now, I have a problem with my galaxy nexus, the device is rooted, I can access CWM recovery, but I did accidentally wipe my internal SD , which means no backup to restore from. I know it s silly, but it had to happen. So I can enter fastboot mode, recovery mode, but as there is nothing to use on the recovery , I d rather go for the fastboot way.
But what I am asking help for is , how can I inject the stock image? I feel the phone is not dead, at all, but I don't know how to proceed, I would gladly try the toolkit, but I m on a mac, 10.8, hence I can't run the toolkit. Anyone to help me get out of trouble please?
I can of course reach a PC, if absolutely needed, but I can make proper procedure on my laptop, it would be better.
Thank you in advance for any direction , advice , one could provide me with.

Hi, many thanks for your reply, however, when I use terminal on my mac, the device is not recognised, there is no response . Still I m looking at my phone with the droid on his back, belly open. The main thing is I don't know how to get it recognised by my mac.... rrrrrr !!!! I m confident it will work out some time, but now, I m still stuck. And I m not really easy with adb, but willing to learn...
When in terminal and I type ./fastboot-mac devices it reads " no such file or directory, so what am I doing wrong? Maybe a question , in terminal, when I want to indicate in which folder is the platform-tools-v6 folder , ijust drop it in the terminal window... Am I right or completely wrong?
Usually I tend to read tens of pages in xda, and it is not like I want to be spoon fed, but since yesterday I m trying to go through all the troubles I have, but so far no luck!!!
Thanks anyways to whoever will help me out.

When your in a terminal window you want to change directories to where you have the platform tools & image files before typing in the commands. I'm not sure how you do that on a Mac. Inversely you could copy the platform-tools files & the image files to where ever the terminal window opens.
Well, yes, but it drives me crazy to not know where the terminal is looking at... However, I managed to connect to my phone in fastboot, there was a script I pasted in the terminal window, which I have executed several times, and which made the phone reboot in fastboot mode.
So there is some kind of progress... :fingers-crossed:
What mistake have I done yesterday.....
I also tried through heimdall 1.3.2, which detected the device, but could not load anything properly, so I gave up that option , back with the fastboot mode.
So I m not sure how I will manage it, but I m not done with it now.
Edit: Finally, I managed to get control of the the phone, thanks to the work of Techfanatic9 and his Gnex toolkit for mac. What a relief, but in the meantime it got me to deal with adb, and I guess I will certainly dig deeper in this way to interact with phones .
So, of course, many thanks to 3rdstring for being so helpful and so fast ! All is well that ends well.
this is the link that got me out of trouble , so if you happen to be a mac user and get a bit out of control with your phone , check it out.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus ADB side load help

Phone Was working fine on latest PA rom until battery died. Upon charging and rebooting up, the Rom some how got corrupted i guess, because it now just boots logo forever. I don't have any roms on the device itself so can't reinstall anything through recovery to try to fix whatever may have got corrupted. I know there is a way to Side Load with TWRP, but am running into difficulties. I do have the drivers for the nexus installed. I can't directly drop files through windows because it doesn't read in recovery and read up upon researching the Side load function. So I downloaded the ABT bundle zip folder and placed it in C folder, but that's where i'm stuck. I've tried looking a few things up but every time i try to run Adb command in the platforms folder it just opens and closes within a second. not sure what i'm missing. i've tried looking at other ways but most other phones have the capability of just throwing it on to the SD card which helps other people. thanks in advance.
Tl:dr Need to get a rom file onto the Nexus, to install and repair my corrupted rom.
you run adb from COMMANDLINE, it sounds like you are trying to double click the adb.exe....that will never work. adb is a commandline tool
ok, i'm pretty much a noob, don't know how to do that but i'll google it first before i bug any more. thanks again.
Since you are using windows, while looking at the explorer window that contains the adb/fastboot exes, hold down shift and right click somewhere in the blank space within the folder...OPEN COMMAND WINDOW HERE
once you have a DOS prompt open in that location, type 'adb devices' without any quotes to see if your device is being recognized.
there is an entire thread dedicated to walking you through this whole process.
