I just upgraded aokp tasks 650 2.20 and I want to restore my nova launcher settings and screens. When I click restore no file to choose. I even tried moving back up file with astro....
Thanks in advance,

Do I need the prime version of nova launcher for backup and restore capabilities?
some recoveries, older versions for the most part, tend to put your files into a deeper level on your internal memory.
Example : /storage/emulated/0 becomes /storage/emulated/0/0
Check to see if this is the case, and if so move your files to the top level (/storage/emulated/0) and see if that corrects your problem.
Let us know if it works or if this is not the case so we can troubleshoot further. =)

OK so here are some scrwen shots. Sd0 is where nova saves it and I saves it to extsd when I formatted......

No, you do not need the prime version. The backup and restore feature comes standard with the free version of the app. I have used both nova and apex to perform backup and restores and I haven't paid for either launcher.
It's possible your backup got corrupted some how. To find out if its the backup files or the app, try the following:
1.) Make a current backup of what you have on the screen.
2.) Make some changes to the settings / screen.
3.) Restore your newly made backup.
Report back and let me know if this works. This will allow us to at least rule out an issue with the app itself.

So the restore worked. Changed some icons folder structure etc and it worked.....
So perhaps I am not putting file that I saved to external SD in the right spot on internal.

The original backup file should be placed wherever your new backup file was created. In other words, take the *.novabackup and place it in the same directory as the backup you just created. The path for nova backups should be /data/com.teslacoilsw.launcher/backup
If you do this and nova still doesn't read it, then there is a problem with the original backup. If that is the case, the file is corrupted and cannot be fixed.
I just attempted to backup, wipe my phone, flash a ROM, and restore using the same backup without issue by placing my backed up file in the path above. Its not nova, its definitely something with your backup file.
Also, make sure you didn't change the name or extension of the file. It should be named *.novabackup where * is the original name you chose for this backup.

When updating ROM versions I got this down so anyone point me in right direction for back up? I find when I update a ROM I sign in to gmail then all apps come down but everything else USB all messes up.

There's already a few pages of this so it might've been mentioned, but for me this works:
Copy files from main storage/0/0 to just storage/0. Then CREATE a back up...then go to restore and Nova should discover all your existing back ups.
Same problem. Easier with AirDroid

I've struggled with that problem as well. It seems that upon installing Nova Launcher on devices that the /data/ subdirectory isn't automatically created. I don't know if it's due to the lack of a removable SD card or what. I finally decided today to try creating the necessary subdirectories using AirDroid and connecting to my device that way. I suppose it could also be done with any file manager but since I had to factory reset my phone due to a bad CM 11 installation I didn't have a file manager available at the moment.
In AirDroid, you connect to your phone wirelessly (same Wi-Fi network) and then create the following subdirectories off of /sdcard/....
1. data
2. com.teslacoilsw.launcher
3. backup
If done correctly, you will be able to navigate to /sdcard/data/com.teslacoilsw.launcher/backup/ via AirDroid or any file manager.
Then add the Nova Launcher backup file in the backup folder, and...
After that when you initiate a RESTORE the backup file will show in the BACKUPS dialog within Nova Launcher.
HTC One Nova Back up Location>
/Storage/emulated/0/data ( there is 2 data folder one with .data and other only data, u go on data with out dot ) / com.teslac....../backup/ ( there is all you backup or past here if you backup online and want to restore it)

Why would deleting system apps affect whether Titanium Backup can backup user apps & settings?
For the record, I had the same problem as the OP, TB shows the line thru everything. But I believe it's b/c I didn't update busybox..? Why on earth would the program say it backed up the apps fine, only to give an error message (parsing error) after the fact when trying to restore? Seems like a huge flaw to me. It should not report a successful backup when it in fact backed up nothing.
You scared the bejesus out of me about losing photos. Those are intact (as they should be, along with everything else on the SD). How would it even be possible to lose those by simply wiping the phone?
I always copy my files off the sd at least once a week. I have another prog called Folder Clone that back ups all my data onto another hard drive. Same prg also backs up to a DVD once a week. I still have data files going back to my Apple II days. Always have a comprehensive program to keep your data safe. /rant
TB makes only data backups of system apps.

edit - I never saw a "problem" label that would have forewarned about the busybox issue negating all backups..

No backups under cwm 3, not running cwm period. Likely rooted before cwm became part of the basic root package here.
Just running 2.1 stock, rooted, and TB.
Is extracting the backups (TARs) directly on my PC a possible rescue? (or are they corrupted TARs due to an earlier version of busybox?)
They're readable in WinRAR! Looks like I have a saving grace! Wonder why TB doesn't like them, even though it made them?
Oddly enough, when I first made the backups, TB was on default compression (gzip) and I noticed all the gzip files it was creating were 0 bytes. Luckily I changed it to BZIP2. When I saw that the backups now had file sizes, I assumed all was well..
On a separate note, is it still the case that TB doesn't backup SMS? I see conflicting reports on google searches. I already backed them up a different way, but was hoping TB would take care of that too, it didn't.
The one and only thing TB backed up and restored fine were my browser bookmarks (which is yet another pickle, why did that go fine, but game saves were corrupted/parsing error?)
TB also seems to like the "usb debugging" box to be checked under the main phone's settings->applications->development menu. Though when I don't have that checked it usually just hangs on an indefinite loop when restoring rather than giving the error you see.

update: i was able to locate my backup file and it is saved in /storage/emulated/legacy/data/com.teslacoilsw.launcher/backup.... yet i cant find this folder within android file transfer ugh
I use Apex Launcher and I am betting it works the same. When I flash a new ROM it doesn't have my backup of the desktop or settings to restore. BUT if I then restore Apex Launcher DATA ONLY with titanium backup THEN CHOOSE restore desktop data and restore settings within Apex then it is back to my saved backed up copy.

I did a search to try and find an answer but couldn't find anything, so apologies if it has already been asked/answered..
Alrighty, so I got my shiny new Nexus 7 Flo for Christmas, and rooted it straight away. Everything seems to be fine, but just realised i hadn't done a nandroid backup yet. Once the backup was finished, I rebooted so I could move the backup to my laptop to free up ~4gb from my Nexus, but the backup location is different from the normal /sdcard/ClockworkMod/Backup, and I finally found it (using a root file manager) in data/media/clockworkmod/backup.
SO, my question is this..
Since it is apparent that Nexus 7 doesn't support USB Mass Storage Mode, I cannot access said nandroid backup without using a root file manager to move it to my MTP-accessible /sdcard folder, then moving to my laptop. That being the case, if something funky were to happen to my tablet and require me to restore the nandroid backup, how would I be able to put the nandroid backup back onto my tablet, since it would require the root file manager to move (which I obviously wouldn't be able to use if I'm in a bootloop for example).
As i was typing this I thought that mounting USB storage in recovery might do the trick, but nothing appears in My Computer when I select mount USB storage in CWM..
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks

if you have adb set up correctly and the path variable set - just navigate to where you want to save your Nandroid and type:
Code:
adb pull /data/media/clockworkmod/backup/
To put it back on your device you can use adb push for single files or the entire directory contents to wherever you want to put the files on your device.
Code:
adb push /path/to/saved/file_or_directory /target_dir_on_device
Then restore using cwm or twrp as needed.
Alternatively you could also use fastboot to flash your recovery images.
hope this helps,
Cheers!
Ahh i didn't even think of using adb pull to work around this, thanks heaps!

USB is not native on the Nexus 7 Flo so USB only works with an stick mount type app. I don't know if any will do this without root but you can't mount USB in recovery regardless. As to how to get a nandroid to your tablet, adb is your friend. 4GB is a an unusually huge nandroid. I always recommend keeping a nandroid or at least a ROM zip on you internal memory to flash. It save some hassles.

I'm not referring to mounting a USB stick to the tablet, I already use stickmount for that. I'm talking about mounting the Nexus to the computer so files can be moved to it while in recovery.
As for the nandroid file size, it's 4gb because of my apps/app data backed up within it.. If there is a way to nandroid backup without also backing up /data folder I'd love to know how (but I'll also feel like an idiot because I've been trying to work out how to do that for a while lol..)

1. Backup type: use "CWM Full" or "CWM Incremental"? What's the difference?
2. Being that the CWM Recovery nandroid location is /data/media/clockworkmod/backup, should I set OBackup to save to this location or leave it at the default /mnt/sdcard, and if I do, will it still be recognised within recovery to restore said backup?

The example here is for a backup without the data partition.
You can save the nandoid to the /sdcard/ directory - because I use TWRP mine go to /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/<device serial number>
For CWM I am not sure of the option but it would be custom if you only want certain partitions.
regardless as long as you know where it is you can restore it. If you use nandroid manager it will scan and find your backup paths for you and restore them, or again you can just point your recovery to them.

oh and I never bother trying to save uncompressed backups to drop box they take forever. I usually just adb pull them to my desktop then stash an archival copy on dvd . zipping and uploading to drive/box/dropbox are also good options but as you said they take a very long time. It is just easier for me to maintain multiple copies on different computers and media in the house...

I think that cwm looks for the backup in a oddball location. Cant remember exactly where off the top of my head. Its late and I'm tired. Nandroid manager should be able to find it though.

There's no option within CWM to select which partitions to backup, or to select backup/restore locations, but it has the advanced options to restore selected partitions, which doesn't really help for now..
I'm more concerned if I get into a bootloop, and my recovery can't find my nandroid backups to restore to..
Yeah I understand your concern. If I am not mistaken the reason you cant see the backup is because it is in protected storage. I think cwm does this by design now... Have you tired booting into recovery and looking for it in cwm?Once you figure out where cwm saves it you can tell online nandroid to save it there, or you could just boot to recovery and do your nandroid directly from cwm. Personally I prefer to do it "online" so I don't have to reboot...
I really cant be of much more assistance directly becuase I don't have CWM on the device right now, but It looks to me like you pretty much have it licked. I'll check back after I get some sleep and If you are still having issues I'll flash cwm and see if I can be of any further assistance.

Definition: APN stands for Access Point Name, a setting on your mobile phone that identifies an external network your phone can access for data (e.g., 3G or 4G Internet service on your phone).
So last 2 days after getting home, I lost lte connections (using cm11 kitkat 2/20 update)...rebooted, nothing, restored, nothing...restored stock rom, instant connection. So I had to update the prl/profile and even did ##72786# refresh just in case...backed up that rom state, restored cm11 and worked. So, there has to be an easier way:
Apps needed:
titanium backup Play Store link
apn backup and restore Play Store link
any root file browser/manager MY CHOICE
Roms required:
your rooted stock nandroid backed up with above listed apps
your cm11 or other kitkat 4.4 + nandroid backed up with above listed apps
Stock rom steps:
-after installing the needed apps, open titanium backup and go to backup/restore
-locate the app apn backup and restore, long press on it and choose to install as a system app
-once a system app, open apn backup and restore and ignore the message stating your device isn't supported
-press the menu key, select to disable ICS check (error message will no longer appear)
-reboot the phone
-once rebooted, open apn backup and restore and choose backup apns, once done exit app and reboot in recovery and restore your 4.4 rom
Kitkat rom steps:
-after installing the needed apps, open titanium backup and go to backup/restore
-locate the app apn backup and restore, long press on it and choose to install as a system app
-once a system app, exit titanium and go to your root file browser
-navigate to: system>app and locate the apn backup and restore apk, long press on it and select move or cut (depending on your browser)
-press back once to return to system folder and navigate now to priv-app folder and paste the apk, exit your browser
-open apn backup and restore and ignore the message stating your device isn't supported
-press the menu key, select to disable ICS check (error message will no longer appear)
-reboot the phone
-once rebooted, open apn backup and restore and choose restore apns...it should locate the stock apn backups right away, once they're restored you must reboot your phone 1 last time for them to take effect
this may seem like a lot to do now, but once you perform all the above 1 time start to finish, this shouldn't be needed to be done for quite some time...but when the time comes and you wanna refresh your signal data it's now always handy.
when you want to refresh the apns, back up your kitkat rom to its most current state, restore your stock rom backup, update the prl/profiles and/or ##72786# refresh your phone. backup your apns when done, backup most current state of stock rom, restore kitkat and restore the new apns and reboot...done, my lte has been completely solid since doing this after 2 days of glitching (plus I flash roms a lot lol so it's good to keep handy)
Thanks a bunch!
I've been looking forever for a guide like this! I needed to restore the apns for 4g and mms on my virgin mobile, and it worked perfectly!

got specifics? I've done this a few times on different roms and never fails me...skipping any steps or not rebooting as I wrote step by step for each rom while I physically performed the steps myself?
Well I load the peoples rom which fixes LTE . I install apn. I use either titanium or system file converter to change it to a system file (titanium hangs sometimes). I back up the APN. Clean install cm11. At this point I will have LTE until the first time I drive into an area that it's not available. Either way I reinstall apn back up. I Crete a folder called ApnBackup in the 0/system folder because the program does not create it itself. I copy the apn.xml files inside. Then I go to the system app folder as you suggest but the apn (long name) is not there. I check the priv-app folder and the apn app is already in place. So I lunch the app. Delete existing apn files, restore from the back up. Reboot and still no Lte

Not likely effected I can make let Come back by down grading to a touch wiz. Either way I think tonight's nightly might be a step in the right direction as the are separating the gsm and the cdma ril files

yeah their latest d2spr zips are crap and lte dead, you need the d2lte zips now...I just posted links in the last page of the nightly thread actually
I'm using the cm11 2/03 build and never get lte losses or anything, solid for me in every way so I'm staying put on that build release
File not found error
I followed all of your steps, and even reset my PRL and profile (successfully). I rebooted, made APN backup/restore a system app, told it to skip the ICS check, rebooted, and told it to backup apns. It prompted me for a filename, and I chose the default "apns-<date-time-string>.xml".
It then failed with the following error:
Backup failed: file not found: /storage/emulated/0/ApnBackupRestore/apns-<date-time-string>.xml: open failed: ENOENT (No such file or directory).

Thanks for the write up.
great guide finally helped me with viewing and editing the apn's on the slimkat rom i installed.
i had to do a couple different things though.. i used apn manager pro and i had to change its permissions to 777. then it would work.
Titanium Backup always hangs on me while setting APN Backup and Restore as a system app. It stays on processing and nothing happens. :\

Try using a file explorer app to locate and move apn backup and restore from /data/app to /system/app or to whichever directory u need. But, could someone here please upload their apns that were backed up with apn backup and restore? I would like to try this to see if I can get lte. Thanks. I really hope someone replies to this soon like I did lol.

I am getting the same issue. Do i need to use titanium? as it says i need to donate to convert to system app.
Instead i tried rom tool box, converted to system app. when look for apk in system > App its not there, and data> App its not there either
I notice it uninstalls it. i have to reinstall it.. So what i did was i installed it. i copied the apk to my sd card. converted to system app, but when i try to paste to system > Priv.app it says failed..
i dont know what to do anymore. I am running beanstalk 4.4
Edit:
I just tried titanium and it just hangs.. 40 mins no progress.
Are we suppose to wipe any data before recovering?

Same problem, though I'm on Stock rooted MK3, on Sprint.
If on a 4.4 rom make it easy on yourself, quit using titanium... Locate the app in data/app, cut and paste to system / priv-app, click to make sure it's installed then reboot... After reboot and disabling the check within the app it will backup your apn no problems

Hello everyone,
yesterday i installed the latest nightly of CM13.
Everything works well so far but i encountered some Problems with Titanium Backup.
The Format of my SD Card is external (as in CM12) and TB has no write Permissions for it. ("This Folder is not writable")
I had the same Problem in 5.1.1, workaround was to edit the Permissions in the platform.xml file.
But in CM13 this file looks different.
Has anyone a Solution for this?
Thank you!

Hey I am here to solve all your problems, hehe... hopefully.
You need to change the way that the app accesses your SD card. Go into the Titanium Backup preferences (Menu > Preferences) and click 'Backup folder location'. Then click on 'Storage provider' and then 'DocumentProvider storage'. Then just select the root of your SD card. You can then use TB to set your backup location on the SD card.
If that doesn't work, check that TB has storage permissions (Settings > Apps > Titanium Backup > Permissions > Storage).
Hope this helps.
works like a charm, perfect
What about the "Auto-sync TB settings" option?
I cannot find a way to set the Directory manually. It says "..TB will auto backup its settings to your SD Card..." but its not working.
TB also does not recognize my old settings @SD-root/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
Thanks

Yeah I'm on the same page as you on that one, I haven't been able to figure it out. I guess you could try moving the settings folder to internal storage, although that is a complete guess. Anyone else?

Another alternative is to install the following xposed module, it will allow apps to access the sd card like in older android versions:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.defim.apk.handleexternalstorage
Or. Just install TB as a system app. Copy after install file to system/priv-app.

Okay thanks for that, I think I know what's happening: you may have picked your actual backup location in the DocumentProvider storage window instead of the root of the SD card. Click Storage provider and then 'DocumentProvider storage' and make sure you select the root directory of your SD card (instead of the location of your backups), then use the window back in TB to set your actual backup location.
If you did pick your SD card root originally and that is where your backups are stored, it might be that the app doesn't like the backups being there and you just have to move them.

***UPDATE: I got it working. Here's how.
I followed the recommendation on the TB FAQ:
There is an elegant way of giving TitaniumBackup write access to the external sdcard, without having to forfeit security (as in method 3 below). Since the time of Android 4.3, Google uses a very clean security-solution by giving apps that request write access to external SD, permission only to their own folder – not to the entire card! In order to get TitaniumBackup to work without compromising security, you can simply create a folder on the external sdcard, using the following folder-structure: /storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
Click to collapse
... so I created a folder in that location, and copied all of my backups there. I'll miss having a TitaniumBackup folder right on my extSD root... but this works, so I'll get used to it.
I then found the folder on my phone's internal storage where the NEW settings backup had been stored:
[Internal Storage]\data\com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup\
... and copied over all the files in it with the contents of
[External Storage]\data\com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup\
... where the settings had previously been backed up.
Be advised that the only files in these folders were a "settings" folder (containing 1 XML and a handful of database files without extensions) and a licensing-cache.xml file.
In my case, I had made a backup of my external SD card before formatting it as portable storage Android 6... so I copied from my backup over the files on my phone. I'd like the settings to be backed up to my external card, but for now... this worked.
I then uninstalled TB and reinstalled it. When TB started, I went into preferences, and used DETECT! to find the backups I had copied into
/storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
There was no problem accessing these files, I didn't have to choose the root and then browse to the folder or anything... so the FAQ was true to this being an elegant solution.
When I backed out of the preferences, the app reloaded automatically, and all of my settings and backups were restored.
I hope this helps!
***END UPDATE
Did everybody here fix the issue of TB not restoring previous settings?
I'm having lots of trouble getting TB back to how I had it on KK. I'm actually doing this on CM13 on a Note 4... but this G4 thread describes my problems exactly -- I couldn't get the right (write) access to my TB backups on my SD card... nor could I get TB to restore the settings from before I made the switch to CM13.
I think I understand how to get my backups and the folder to be accessed again... but I still can't get the TB settings to restore. I have EXTENSIVE time put into app labels, so I really don't want to lose it and start over.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That was the solution I gave you in post #9 above. You did not need to copy your files there, all you had to do is use a file explorer and move the main folder there after renaming it. There is no need to copy the settings as there is a setting inside Titanium Backup that auto-sync's your TB settings to the external SD card so it will be restored on any phone as long as you use the same SD Card or a copy of the same SD Card on any phone which is under the Menu as Auto Sync TB Settings.

I followed every post in the thread... and noting worked til I did what I did above. Maybe in some cases, I wouldn't have had to do everything I did... but, that wasn't the case this time.
I did have to copy over the settings files. Something got borked, and all my settings were overwritten with fresh empty ones. It's a good thing I backed up my entire 128GB card before starting the Marshmallow update.
I took the time to articulate everything I did in case, like me, someone came by and tried what you had written and it didn't work. Now they have two options.
Merry Christmas
