its obvious that partitioning SD will format the SD card.
I don't remember the name but there's some apps for file recovery in android.
search for that apps in Google and play store. it worked for me very good.

As far as I know tthat only works if you delete a few files, not if you formatted the whole sd card, than its really gone

Such programs worked for me when accidentally formatted my HDD. I recovered about 2/3 of data. Why wouldn't it work on Android?

Trying to free up some space on my external card and realizing I have no idea what folder the backups are stored in, running clockworkmod based recover v5.5.0.4
never mind, found it, but for some reason every time i back it up, the date is all wrong, just backed up and it is 1970-01-04.06.58.12?

Check clockwork folder and inside there should be a folder that says backup
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app
Backups on this phone will always have the incorrect date. The recoveries do do not have access to the time.

That's weird, I made a backup with CWM before switching to TWRP and there's nothing in that folder.
Another question, where are the backups stored from TWRP? I can see them while in recovery, but not in any file explorer.

Make sure again ur preferred install location is ext sd card...Try formatting the card ..Still doesnt work try with a different memory card..May be the sd card is corrupted..
On formating it will work but some of them say that main cause is rooting...

Not because of rooting. Of-course, this can be resolved only by root option. The same problem happened to me 2 or 3 times while i install it manually from SD-card (App downloaded from other website and not from playstore).
Follow steps for installing manually from SD-card
You need
ES File Explorer
Rooted Phone
First Open ES File Explorer
On the left Tab you will see Tools
Click Root Explorer
Click One Key Install
Navigate to location of the APK file
Just click the file
***Grant permission from Super User ****
This worked for me. If it works for you too. Press Thanks :fingers-crossed:

So I'm new to the s3 I successfully rooted and installed cwm. I made a back up of my stock 4.1.2 ROM but when I installed a new ROM my back up went away. On my previous phones in cwm when you wipe data it didn't wipe any backup. Now it did. How can I prevent this from happening and and does anyone please have a 4.1.2 stock t mobile ROM cwm backup!? Would be very much appreciated

It should be on the root of the internal storage. To prevent this, stick to one version of the os. No one is going to give you their backup/nandroid. Go through the development section, there's a few 4.1.2 stock Roms with root.

It would be under the /0 if op made the backup after flashing and booting up the ROM.

What do you mean stick to one version of os. Does anyone have a backup without logging in to a gmail account. So its completely stock

In my past experience with cwm wiping data always wiped the internal storage.. So one way to prevent it from happening is to make backups to the external sdcard instead of internal.. I don't know how it works now because I've been using twrp for a while now.. And there is stock ROMs in the development section, you can just download one and flash it

Normally rom backup is secured and will not be wiped
You can download es file explorer and give root permission
Go to /device,- mnt folder - shell folder - you will find cwm folder and in that backup folder containing your all backup
Try it

[Q] About Rooting 4.1.2

Will rooting a T989 delete anything in the phones memory or on both internal and external sd cards?

Rooting won't delete anything, but you'll need to have a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) to root device and once you have custom recovery it's really a good idea to also do a nandroid backup with it, that way if anything goes wrong with device you can restore it.
Im glad u mentioned that, exactly how do u perform a "nandroid backup"?
