I am pretty sure to do the ruu you have to relock your phone and I think with fastboot you need s-off for most commands.

ok well lets start off with what you can currently do. Can you boot into recovery? Does it make it past the splash screen and to boot animation? What is your HBOOT version?

I had one that did that I could not get it fixed myself. I sold it on eBay and the buyer did fix it. Long story short I doubt I can help you but it could be possible to fix. I doubt it will be an easy fix though.

yes i get a image update error
and if i try to flash pc36img i get a data length is too large
or password verify fail

Ok, since your bootloader is unlocked you can use fastboot commands
So download the latest recovery (smelkus is probably best) and flash it through fastboot (make sure you are in fastboot mode on the phone, go to bootloader > select fastboot and select with power)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery nameOfRecoveryHere.img
And once thats done, just flash a rom and you should be good

when i do that i get another box that pops up saying cmd has stoped working i also tried smelkus on sd card renamed PC36IMG but that goes through and loads and the parsing but then it stops and returns to bootloader

Ok, try reformatting your sdcard to FAT32
Make sure to have a backup, of course, then restore files when formatting is finished
Then try the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sdcard again
Also, if it says "cmd has stopped working", thats a problem on your computers side, nothing to do with the PC-phone connection...if possible, try running those commands from another computer

I have this issue also and have the same stats as the OP for version, etc.
I can add a small amount of additional info, but I am unsure if it will be helpful.
I RUU'd with the Sprint_GB_4.54.651.3 file after lockibf the boot loader and had success. When relocked, HBoot States. "Locked status, not "Relocked OOW" as I have sometimes seen posted in Root/S-Off guides.
Additionally, I have used fast pot to flash partition by partition for a PC36IMG . Other than System failing GB die to excessive size, most or all of the others were successful.
When using fastboot to query CID, I get a status: Malformed error.
ADB is unusable for my device.. were it accessible, I would attempt TacoRoots methods, or use a modified downgrade strategy as employed with gFree and fr3vo, where one borks the device's version info and uses the temporary unsteady state to downgrade to known good software.
I have little to substantiate whether or not that would be possible or successful, but I have a hunch about it and in a perfect world would have the skilled means necessary to try to employ it.
I unfortunately do not.

[Q] Bricked Desire plz help

hello everybody...
a friend of mine just gave me his desire, he bought a used one and tried something to update its rom, but now its bricked and its in my hand to be fixed.
the problem is that it doesnt boot at all... i mean when i press power button to make it on, the htc logo appears and starts again and again with a little VIBRATE. so i can say that its in a boot loop.
ok when i press vol down and power button it goes into the boot loader, where it is written that its S-ON with boot loader .93, and when i click on recovery it goes into the boot loop like i wrote above.
i also have a Desire HTC and it is rooted using unrevoked and i m running an HD rom over it. its a complete packaged phone...
i have a knowlege how to root and etc. but in this bricked desire case i dont know what to do. coz it never happened to me... i also searched the forum for a solution, didnt got any.
please help me in this matter... ask me question and please give me a solution,/

i tried to install the rom by downloading this RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
i think it is working, but it says while installing that from image 2.33..... to imrage 2.29.... and then it tries to push everyting i mean tryies to run its setup and within 2 min it says Customer ID error, try someother package...
edit 1: i itried your way also by copying that zip file and then pasting it on the sd card... i sucessfully loaded in fastboot but i think the same error as above,,, CID error...
now what can i do?
edit 2: Have also tried unrevoked in fastboot mode... power on fastboot usb and then starting unrevoked, but unrevoked keep saying to connect device and enable usb debugging mode. nothing happens
thanks Hassan
1. Download this:
http://www.multiupload.com/LEJCW182AH
2. Follow this guide to get the ZIP out of the RUU and flash off the SD card:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10509780&postcount=102
Assuming the phone is unbranded it'll work, or at least get the phone booting again. If it fails flashing the ROM for any reason then it's a branded phone and you'll need to speak to the seller to find out where it's from

I think that easier way not loosing the root would be flash once again recovery were you using clockwork recovery? Beside if the phone is branded you will need a goldcard
so i think you should instal adb http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
then you need to recovery image which you can find here http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-ha...a-recovery-ra-desire-v2-0-1-27-11-2010-a.html
put recovery on c drive sdk folder and open cmd on your windows and put a command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
U can try to put ur phone on bootloader, then plug it to ur pc and run the RUU from windows..It should restore all, after that u can root it with unrevoked and do what u want..

i have written clearly that the phone is not going in recovery nor it is booting in to some sort of rom or recovery that i flash new recovery.but if you tell me or direct me to some tutotial to flash recovery in adb mode, may be i can unbrick my device. but c i cant boot into recovery. i can just boot into fastboot.

Trying to unroot

Okay, so S-OFF on my phone. I tried to do the forever unroot zip, but that didn't work..so i flashed the stock PC36IMG.zip file. Now the phone doesn't boot at all..it gets stuck at the white htc evo 4g screen. Recovery mode is inaccessible (has the evo with a red triangle). Is there anyway to fix this?
Yes, but need more info from your bootloader, especially your Hoot version and radio numbers.

You can't flash that zip, because your HBOOT is a newer version than the one which you're trying to flash. Red triangle, is the recovery, stock recovery. If you push vol up + power, you'll see android recovery system. Try running an RUU of the stock ROM you want.

Only way of doing that is from within an operational phone, Android environment. Or via custom recovery. Since yours isn't booting. Boot your bootloader, choose fastboot and flash a custom recovery via cmd prompt. From within the recovery you can mount the phone, turning the SD card in your phone into a flash drive on your computer.

A RUU is an executable file that runs on your computer environment which will push the ROM to your phone via sync cable. RUU= ROM update/upgrade utility.
Must you have S-On, to switch carriers, or do you just need the stock ROM on your phone?

I didn't see that you had clockworkmod as your recovery before. That's probably why it didn't work. I agree with the above; I'd just flash a stock rooted ROM. Just download the PC36IMG.zip for RA-supersonic v2.3 and put it on the root of your sd card (you can take it out of the device and connect it to a computer using a card reader) to flash in bootloader.
My phones touch screen is acting up..and i think it was the rom.
Fastboot > RUU > PC36IMG (hboot 2.16.00001 S-ON) > RUU. Best way in my opinion.

Help stuck on bootloop!!

Man, Ive really screwed up now... I didn't back up the stock ROM, tried to root her phone using the HTC Sync method described here.
I successfully unlocked the bootloader and rooted, but still have S-ON. I have HBOOT ver 0.98, by the way.
Then after installing a Cyanogenmod 7.2 ROM through ClockworkMod Recovery (no errors there), the phone freezes on boot at the white screen with green HTC letters.
I tried flashing another ROM (several actually), but they all do the same thing. Freeze on the white boot screen, doesn't matter how long I wait.
So in an effort to get it back to stock, I tried flashing a stock RUU through the bootloader, and I get an error "Main version is older!". Checked my version through "fastboot getvar all" and the main version on phone is 6.01.605.05, so apparently I can't flash anything less than that. The latest version RUU that I've been able to find for download is 5.10.605.9.
Im fairly new to this, but I don't think I can use ADB commands without booting into the OS, is that right?
So in short:
-unable to boot to OS
-can't find a custom ROM that will boot
-can't use ADB commands to downgrade HBOOT or get S-OFF (or can I somehow?)
-can't flash an RUU because my phones version registering higher than anything I can find on the net
So does anyone have any ideas?
Calm down, did you flash the boot.img through fast boot?

Yes, I tried but it keeps failing. Do you know if my phone has to be unlocked before I flash the boot.img? Also, I am still s-on and don't know how to get s-off from a 6.01.605.05. I am stuck in bootloop and can't get into recovery only hboot/fastboot. Will the Roms you mentioned work with s-on? Should I try flashing the boot.img, system.img, and recovery.img from one of those roms?

I had the same problem and flashing the boot.img does work. Make sure your fastboot and boot.img are in the same folder and and you hold shift and open command prompt from there. Also make sure your drivers are working properly. After you flash your boot image to you phone the clear all data/cache/davsik and then instal cyanogenmod!

Bootloop on Desire HD

Hi Peeps. Appreciate any help here.
Recently got 02 faulty Desire HD from someone. No idea what he did. One of it has a bootloop, while the other is just stuck on the HTC logo. I will just concentrate my problem on the device with the bootloop as it seems to have a higher chance of recovering.
Was able to boot to HBoot and shows me this screen. I will type it out as I have no access to camera for now.

Have you fastboot flashed a recovery?
Firstly. is there anything to make it S-OFF? Couldn't find a method that works. Most of it I found requires to boot into Android which is impossible for my case.
Also tried to put PD98IMG.zip in SD card to flash it, but give CID incorrect error.

I will try my best to explain cause I have no idea what's happening...
1. used fastboot using CMD to flash CWM to recovery. Error: signature verify fail.
2. Tried RUU.exe to flash. Simply says the update could not be completed.
Is there any thing I could do with Hboot or Fastboot that could revive the phone? I think I tried almost all methods... unless there is other ways that I have not tried...

1. I'm on s-on. Does it matters?
2. Bootloader should be unlocked after flashing the unlock.bin from htcdev.com. I saw the *** UNLOCK *** when I go into HBOOT.
3. Command I used was *fastboot flash recovery recover.img*. The recover.img is actually the CWM recovery.
4. HTC Sync is installed.
4. Yes i did. It gave me FAILED status. Error: Signature verify error.
I will try to snapshot whatever process I did to make my explanation clearer later part of the day.

Signature check is failing or the .img file is flaw (try downloading again) or your bootloader is not unlocked in its whole. That happens from time to time. Try using this recovery image (touch CWM):

Help, can't flash any KitKat ROMs! [How to update recovery]

This seems to keep coming up so for those of you who can't find the fix, please don't create new threads or post all over the developers forum
The most likely reason you can not flash 4.4.x and newer ROMs:
You have an old recovery
why would this matter?
Basically the way permissions are handled in the updater-script (what tells your device how to flash the ROM) have changed
and thus if you flash a newer ROM with an older recovery you will more than likely see a similar error to this:
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed

So how do I change recoveries?
you need grab a flashable.zip of the new recovery and then flash it in current recovery
or
a better and safer way is to use fastboot to flash the new recovery
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
*note, change 'recovery.img' accordingly if this is not how the image is named

two other quick notes:
*you can just fix the updater-script yourself to be able to flash a new ROM in an old recovery, but really this is time consuming and poitless
*another method to flash the recovery is to create a PC10IMG.zip and place on SDcard then boot to bootloader to flash, but more work than needed

Which recovery to use? 4ext is problem free, the other two have slight issues but all should be fine for the most part

Happy Flashing!
Silly mistake led to softbrick..
Could you please help me with this problem?
I had CWM 6.0.4.5 flashed in order to install Flinny's CM11 Alpha 5, FC were very common so I was really excited for PureKat ROM
but then I didn't read the instructions carefully enough and switched the phone off instead of rebooting the system after leaving Aroma installer...
Now I'm stuck in a bootloop which constantly shows me the HTC splash, sometimes 2 seconds of CWM and then HTC logo again. I can get into Hboot menu but Factory Reset and Recovery lead back to bootloop, and my laptop (Windows 7 Professional) won't access the sdcard. Silly me also disabled USB debugging but that shouldn't be a problem because I did a full wipe before installing PureKat, right?
Anyways, I can't seem to establish any connection between PC and my DZ in Hboot, otherwise I would have tried to flash a new recovery just as you said
Any help is welcome, thanks in advance!
First thing to do would be to boot into bootloader and write down everything from that screen here, actually here

Is it safe to install ClockworkModRecovery 6.0.4.5 on HTC Desire Z (HTC Vision / G2)? On ClockworkMod site I found only 5.0.2.7 for HTC G2.
Yes it is safe, but not 100% perfect. The reason its not on the cwm site is that it isn't official and hasn't been submitted to become official, maybe some day.

For fastboot commend we need : eng hboot OR unlocked hboot from the htc website (limited commend, but enough for flash a recovery).
So , if some DZ user were too lazy like me , and didn't flash the eng Hboot, but did all the other steps from the wiki to get the root (including s-off), and won't to go through the wiki again, just use the demkantor PC10IMG file from post #30 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728208&page=3
It work for me. Downside : current rom will bootloop. Can't do restore CWM from 4ext. only fresh install.
Good point @overdose
I do highly recommend an engineering hboot and radio s-off for many reasons, but yes simply unlocking your bootloader will allow you to flash a recovery, but most fastboot commands will still be unavailable

I'm getting 'not allowed' error when trying to use fastboot flash command. I think I did made all steps when rooting and unlocking my phone, but is it maybe connected with 'wrong' hboot?
You probably have a shipped bootloader, boot into your hboot and write down everything from that screen here

1.> Put the "PC10IMG.zip" into "C:\" drive..(u can put it into any other directory)...
2.> Now restart your phone into fastboot mode...
3.> Plug your USB from PC to Mobile..(now it should say "FASTBOOT USB" in red text in Mobile)..
4.> Now open CMD...and type "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
5.> You should now be on the black screen with the HTC logo so now type "fastboot flash zip c:\PC10IMG.zip"...
(NOTE:If you get a message saying 'Failed, repeat immediately'.......just re-run "fastboot flash zip PC10IMG.zip")
Now you should see a green status bar on the black screen
And You are done!.....

Wait, your instruction is for ZIP files and you did put link to IMG file. Will it work for IMG file, or I should just use zip file from here for example: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ucdfd91qn7h1dbm/kTTY8yOJLN/PC10IMG ?

Actually I planed to do so. I'm curious if your instructions applies to IMG files to (directly or with small modifications)?
Until you have an engineering bootloader most fastboot commands are unavailable. Grab the .zip from post 30 in that link and follow the directions there.
Alex was having a similar issue to yours earlier but he couldn't get the PC10IMG.zip to work on his SD card so he used the rebootRUU method, which could also work for you. I would advise to understand both methods as they can be helpful to learn down the road
To answer your question directly, you must use the .zip, .imgs will not work with either method

I was sure method with sd card would work fine so tried rebootRUU and it worked. Below is method that worked for me. It is simply whole instruction for getting new recovery when starting without eng HBOOT. This is just 'compilation' of instructions from Alex Mitter and demkantor.
Download DZ_PC10IMG.zip from demkantor dropbox
Connect phone to PC (adb devices to be sure it is recognized properly)
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
to switch to HBOOT. I didn't need to switch to fastboot as it was already in fastboot mode. You might want to use fastboot devices to be sure it is recognized properly again
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Code:
fastboot flash zip DZ_PC10IMG.zip
to flash eng HBOOT
Code:
fastboot reboot-boootloader
to get back to HBOOT and validate it.
Download CWM recovery from 1st post in thread
Code:
fastboot flash recovery CWMrecovery.img
to flash freshly downloaded recovery
switch to recovery from HBOOT to verify version and proceed with PureKat instalation from there
