Too good to be true? We'll see. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So I have a plan to water-proof my GS3 with ZERO bulk (okay maybe like 1%)
I'm sure if you've Googled anything having to do with waterproofing your GS3, you've seen this: http://www.iottie.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=1010&ProductType=320
In theory, it seems like a great idea. Until you realize that you have no way to charge your phone or plug in earbuds.
A couple weeks after I saw that product, I came across this article: http://m.webosnation.com/galaxy-s3-gets-cleanest-touchstone-mod-yet
Now if you see where I'm going with this, you're probably thinking "Well that solves the charging problem, but what about the headphone jack?"
After about 10 minutes of research I found this: http://www.jabra.com/products/bluetooth/jabra_clipper/jabra_clipper
Unfortunately this blows the $80 budget of a waterproof case.
So instead, I just found a refurbished pair of blue tooth headphones for $35 on ebay. (I bought these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004B...edirect=true&ref_=as_li_ss_tl&tag=chescifi-20)
So the idea is to combine these products (Jabra clipper is optional) and have a waterproofed phone. Is this idea too good to be true? I have ordered all of the items. I will post a video showing my results when I have received the items.

Although it says that it isn't meant to be permanent, it implies that that is only because it does not allow charging. Either way, I've bought the items. My point of view is that if the waterproofing isn't successful, at least I have some badass accessories now right?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

It says reusable. That means they intend you take it off sometime. The 5 sealing tapes are probably for wear and tear leaks but maybe they could be used for "panels" to cover those holes but I really think this is a temporary skin for if you're going out in a wet environment.

hows it working for you?

So far, the "case" itself is literally the only part of this experiment that has not shipped yet. Please be patient for a video on my results. I'm going to try to go as long as I can with one package worth of material. I'd say I can make it last 1-2 months. I don't plan on much submersion except maybe for a quick test.

I can take pictures underwater
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium

The idea seems great, but it would worry me a bit. Not to mention the fact that devices that were not built to be waterproof can get water trapped in non air tight areas. At CES they had a liquipelled Tab 2 that got water trapped between the glass and the display. Not fun. This technology is used more for accidental exposure to moisture.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

He says he can take pics underwater and still say that you think it's not a good idea bc a tablet(that isn't built like a phone) got water under the screen... That means tablet wasn't sealed properly no?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium

Technology that was not designed to be waterproof may not play nice with that. I'm not saying that nothing will work with it, I'm just saying that it may not be the best idea in all cases.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app

I have received all of the materials today, I plan on making a video by tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
[EDIT]
My camera is broken. -.-
I'll figure out an alternative soon.

Not sure this is something I'd ever consider doing. However, it's sure going to be interesting to see how it works.

Ugh. I have not made a video for this to this day. This is a dead thread and I apologize. My plan worked to an extent. It stayed waterproof and charged normally, but was cumbersome to use because of the odd shrink-wrap feel of the case.

Didn't theangelofmusic (the technology nerd) do this with her GS3?

Mosh pit approved case?

This may seem like an odd question, but i need a case that can survive hours of moshing. I'm going to Warped Tour this year and don't want my phone getting broken in any moshes. I saw on the S4GRU forums that someone on the forums had an Otterbox that got demolished on a mosh pit, so I want something more durable than an Otterbox. Any suggestions?

Are Leather Pouches Just For Ladies Purses?

i do not want to use a traditional case on my s3. i love the look and feel of the slim phone but i am worried about getting scratches on it in my pocket. my question about leather pouches is this: is this for ladies purses or do men use these too? can't have my wife making fun of me
There is nothing wrong with a guy using a leather case at all. Indiana Jones carried a satchel. Haha. All jokes side, leather cases do make it look nice, but I don't like the added step of flipping it open. If your wife gives you grief about it, a strong backhand should do the trick. Haha just jokes.

Have you tried a different cable? Some cables are made to only supply power, sometimes cables just fail because of cats and their diabolical ways.
If she wants an iPhone, let her get one. I am preparing to push my wife to get one. I just think she'll be happier with it. Ain't no shame in this game. I will only be reinforced in my dislike of Apple if my wife gets one, but the point is she should like what she gets.

Still alive. I'll report back on how my nephew does on replacing the cracked screen. He is mechanical, but i think i might be supervising the fix. It was pretty cheap to get the parts $17.95 on amazon for the screen + digitizer, t5 & t6 torc screw & pry tool, & adhesive tape. I thought that was pretty cheap.
Finally got the parts needed for a USB repair on one of my Inc2s! seems like a common issue on Inc2 after x amount of time.

True! So rather than close the thread we should switch it up into something productive. For example:
· Why you would recommend the UAG
· Why you chose the specific color UAG
· Or post a picture of your S3 in your UAG
This way it doesn't turn into a copy of the other 1, 000+ thread but we still get to see the case owner's participate. Just an idea.

SGSIII Camera: Capable of Capturing a Speeding Bullet? YES!

I snapped this yesterday at the range, and as a fluke, it happened to capture the speeding bullet. I would not have thought this possible on a phone camera. This is a Ruger SR9c (9mm), 115 grain bullet traveling somewhere around 1100 feet per second, I think. I don't take many pictures so this is stock app with stock settings. Cheers.

It's burning gun powder. It's not flying forwards, but at an angle away. It's muzzle flash. Considering you can see the weapon in three stages of recoil in the image, note three images of the gun, at that range by the time that happened at this picture was taken, the bullet had already came to a halt inside the target.
I estimate that target is about 30 feet away, with your rounds, that bullet was reaching the target in about 0.027 seconds. Far, far faster then the shutter on our device.

Even so it is still a pretty cool shot (no pun).
It's burning powder because you can see the lit up other specs of it in various other directions. Unless you're shooting tracers or you have a kicka$$ high speed cam setup, you're not going to get the bullet.
However, that being said, it doesn't take away from the fact that it's still a cool action shot that did capture the burning powder and all.
Now do the same with the shotgun!
Yes the shotgun would be even better
