I have searched for this for a long time and have found nothing on it
when I install anything other than stock I can not connect to wi-fi
it says the signal is great but will not connect to any - tries to connect - says it is obtaining IP address then fails
I have gone back and installed stock modems but still the same thing - I have tried several different ROMS including paranoid and CM
when I go back to stock it works great
any Ideas?
possibly fixed - still testing
typed in *#197328640#
hit menu and chose wi-fi
it brings up the wi-fi info and an off-on button -wi-fi power saver mode - click off and it connected as soon as i did that
not sure why but i will play with it some more - i am running a stock MA5 7105 based rom
pa3 now works - had to go into settings - wi-fi- advance - keep wi-fi on during sleep - turn to never then back to always - it connected right away
its the wi-fi power saver mode that i turned off and it has to be redone at each reboot
now that I have figured out that its a problem with the wi-fi power saving mode - and that it must be reset each reboot - anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
not sure if a script could be ran automaticaly at boot to reset it so that i would not have to go in and do it manually each time
I have no Idea even how to write one

What kernels are you using?
So far Perseus Kernel has been the most reliable and snappiest kernel but will not work with CM10 or AOSP. Perseus and Jedi roms have been great combos. I didn't like the Saber kernel as I had issues with the 5 ghz band, as well as in and out Wi-Fi connectivity.
Today I'm going back to AOSP hoping they've added some features since the unofficial days, combined with the FORCE Kernel.
ALSO: Make sure you fully wipe your device when changing roms. It's not common for most people, but I format every partition when flashing. I have run into way fewer problems with that approach, but make sure you don't accidently reboot your device before flashing. You'll have to odin flash at that point.

I think I know the Answer to your issue!.. Check out the Threads I stared, by clicking on my profile , in the SGS4G Forum..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957920
Or try these two things.
1)If you are using WPS Connection Make sure you are holding Your WPS button for at least ten seconds before releasing it to ensure you "have it scanning Your Devise".. it had been so long for me between stock and custom I "Thought it only took 2 seconds..
2) AND MOST LIKELY YOUR ISSUE.. If you were using a "Password" and entering it forget entering it. The "Password" is no longer "working"
Instead. Click on your Wifi Icon on your laptop or PC. Then Left click Your Wifi Connection. Now Right click Properties. Now CHECK the box under network security key (you will have to be an Administrator to do this) and you will see YOUR WIFI SECURITY KEY ie (aed566fgd1cbi34hjk77i) and input that in as Your Password instead of the "old" Password you had which could have been your dogs name or your first cars name..
Sorry for the lack of technical directions..
Your password (I think) is no longer what you set it as. IT IS as what shows in your WIFI Properties Network Security Key on your Laptop/PC.
Let me know please.
not looking for wi-fi calling - trying to figure why the wi-fi will not connect to my home wi-fi when installing custom roms I know the WEP password by heart and have tried several Roms - stock works - custom does not - I always do a clean install - I have had several androids - all rooted and find a clean install tends to work better - its not something installed later (apps) as it will not log in when i am setting up at first start up or after rebooting
I shut down wi-fi security on my router - still can not connect to it when open - tried 2 different custom roms
I am going to try a stock based custom rom and see if the problem continues - all the ones i tried are 4.2 ports or based on at&t roms
Frosty - based off stock LL4 works
JediX - based off 7105 rom does not work for me
none of the "stock" 7105 roms from teshxx are working for me - they install great - everything works but can not connect to any wi-fi

While the phone is trying to connect to WiFi, unplug the router and plug it right back in, WiFi should allow you to connect when it's done resetting

Re: [Q] wi-fi not working with custom roms
Could be a problem that started at root. I would odin back to stock reroot then try again. If it was settings or user error you would be making the same mistakes on stock roms. But you say it works on stock roms so it would seem that's not the case.

I'm serious though... for years now, whenever I try to connect to WiFi after not being on it for a set amount of time, I'll try to connect and it will get stuck at Obtaining IP... All I do is unplug the power cable from the back of my router (not the modem you get from the ISP) for like 1 second, plug it back in, and viola, devices connect perfectly

Same issue for me. Nothing is working for me.
ok - Odin back to stock - fresh start no root - wi-fi works great -root with CF-auto root - all good triangle away to remove root count
clean install of Paranoid 3.0 - wi-fi does not work at set-up - will not connect
clean install of CM nightlies - wi-fi still not working - install LL4 stock modem - still nothing
teshxx MA5 - same thing
went back to LL4 based Frosty - wi-fi connects right away
wi-fi connects with any true stock based roms but no ports or ASOP based ones
I don't even get past initial set-up - I can tell right away if it is working

I toggled the moble network off rebooted and wifi came on updated mt apps rebooted and it was off like a &^*@ tease! I am frustrated as hell because every phone I own is running PA3. My T-Mobile phone is just for podcast while im driving and I only download them via wifi! before I leave to work. I dont even use as a phone. I went to stock and have full wifi, rooted and have wifi updated to pa3 and no wifi. every costom rom I use I get no wifi unless I go to stock. is there a newer modem I should flash. I tried everything else and I don't care if I even cant make a call on it I just want wifi. Ad no the unpluging router did not work and all 5 of my other phones with modded roms work and 2 with pa3. 10 seconds till I throw my phone through the window and I am at the pont that I don't care that I miss spellled everything I typed

Hello all,
I'm planning to go back to 4.1.x (AOKP milestone 1) since the WiFi tethering on 4.2.x is broken.
I still have the AOKP flashable zips and gapps. Do I just simply copy the ROM and GAPPs to the root of my SDCARD (when mounted via USB on my PC) and start flashing away when in recovery mode?
I now the 4.2.x has a different file structure compared to thd 4.1.x so I'm hoping that the contents of the SDcard root (seen via the PC when connected to the USB) will not be deleted when I flash back to 4.1.x.
Is my understanding of flashing back to an older ROM correct?
Thanks.
WiFi tethering isnt broken on 4.2. Maybe it is on the ROM you are using but it has worked fine for me on CM 10.1 and Carbon ROM. But if you want to go back, I cant say for sure what will happen to your files since I have never downgraded. I assume your personal files on your "SD Card" will be safe and will be there after downgrading though.
I tried Bigxie's deoxed, tried Android Revolution HD 10.x, and Rootbox's 4.2.2 nightly including both official releases with the same result where WiFi tethering doesn't work. In my case, the client that is trying to connect will connect, IP is assigned but it won't be able to access the internet.
As of yesterday, I also tried Muzzy's ROM with the same result. I'm hearing that 4.2.2 changed how the tether flag is set, and gives the carrier more control over it.

Hmm. I'm not sure. I am on Verizon. I dont know if another carrier would cause problems with it.
Thanks for the repsonses JS. I'm still googling away to find out any more fixes. Worse comes to worse, I may just rever to 4.1.x.
I used bigxies deodexed until rasbean 4.2.2 was released and tether regularly with no issues on either. My N7 just works, for my laptop I have to set security to WPA2, on open or WPA it won't gain internet access. Have you tried that?

It's working just fine on me gnex. CM10.1
Thanks, I will look into rasbean 4.2.2.
I tried setting the WiFi tethering to open, WPA and WPA2 with the same results. It connects to my phone, but no internet connection.
I'm beginning to think this may have been set/limited by my carrier recently.

I borrowed a friend's SIM card, installed it in my GN and enabled wifi tethering and it works. It looks like it has something to do wtih my current carrier.
My assumptiom that it worked on 4.1.x and stopped working on 4.2.x may have coincided with their wifi tethering policy changes.
Now I can stop looking for that special ROM. Case closed.
HELP! I have tried manny methods and fixes, but for some reason I cannot get my WiFi Tether to work!
The log shows, everything has passed, and it should be started. I do see the Download and Upload meters at the bottom, however it will not broadcast an SSID for my devices to see!!
I have tried manny settings on it, but in the past the ones that worked were
Generic ICS/JB (wlan1)
Netd(master)
WiFi Reload 2
But so far nothing is working. I have downgraded SuperSU, Downgraded the wifi app itself, tried diffrent versions nothing seems to work!!
Hell even the native tether on the ROM itself is bugging out. First time It connected, but the data would start freaing out, closing connects etc when a device was trying to use it. Now as soon as the tether enables it dissables itself. There is another wifi tether mod that came with the app, but I refuse to pay $15 for more than 5 min of ussage per day. I think that is just dumb.
This is what I have
Sprint Note 2 L900
Carbon Mod JB v1.6
Android 4.2.2
I really dont want to flash a diffrent rom. This is the FIRST one I have actually got it to work this far past a stock rom. For some reason every 4.4 ROM I tried, the modem does not work. I tried new modem drivers but still nothing. All other JB Rom's I have tried 4.1 - 4.3 each have diffrent issues for some reason. So I need to stick to this if at all cost. If you guys can reccomend a very good stable rom I might try it but I need WiFi on my devices! Help ! THanks
I've been having regular issues with my data connection dropping out, sometimes 2 - 3 times a day.
Most of the time, the data icon is still visible in the status bar, but no pages load. The status bar data toggle off / on gets it connected again. Sometimes however, the data icon goes away and only a reboot or toggling flight mode brings it back.
I'm running Ditto Note 3 (KK), but had similar issues on previous custom roms and stock 4.3. I don't remember having any problems with the original Jelly Bean. A friend also has the same issues which started around the same time, on stock unrooted Samsung 4.3. We're both on Orange (UK).
Is this a software issue, or could it be anything to do with the SIM card?

So I'm actually a little bit curious, what official n900w8 rom are you talking about. I've been looking for one for some time now and nothing. Please link if you can.
With regards to the WiFi. I have heard of this before. People with S5 have reported almost similar issues and solution was a script edit.
There has been ports of the new N900t lollipop rom that after a proper kernel "lean kernel" and a S5 WiFi fix. All this has worked on the n900w8 however video recording and nfc don't work.
I'm really curious as to what your set up is.
I went back to 4.4 because I use nfc so much and video recording is a must.
Thanls so much

I have the same problem. I tried editing the build.prop file as suggested on some posts for the 900T but it seems that my phone is not detecting root correctly, so even editing the file reverts when power cycling the phone

Fix Wifi
Edit build.prop ro.securestorage.support and ro.securestorage.knox from true to false. If they are already false change to true and then back to false. Reboot.
You must fix your root issue first, before you can apply this fix...

Now with 5.0 and with lean kernel my passwords save.

What bootloader and modem was your device on before attempting to flash 4.3 with Odin?
In which order did you do step 3?
Was step 3 only the baseband (modem) or did you flash baseband and bootloader?
The 4.3 flash probably didn't work because Odin was protecting you from bricking your device by downgrading bootloader and modem.
If step 3 was only the modem you are fortunate the phone did not hard brick.
If your device was on either NJ1 or NJ2 before the attempt at flashing 4.3, I would recommend reflashing both the bootloader and modem it was on before the 4.3 attempt. If that was the NJ1 version flash it and be ready to go on to NJ2 if that doesn't correct the wifi issue.
My regards, brother.
Thanks for your answer.
The bear had was 4.3 UCUEMJB gave me the motherboard of I747.
I never connect to wifi.
Step 3 did so:
1) install UCUEMJB_to_UCUFNE4_Firmware_update (not connected wifi)
2) install slimkat between the system (not connected wifi)
3) install d2att_I747UCUFNJ1_bootloader_modem_4.4.2_12-3-14 (ADVANCED wipe, reinstall slimkat not connected the wifi)
4) 12.1 cyanogenmod pass (not connect)
5) then went back to try 3 slimkat kernel (not connect)
wipe now advanced.

The wifi only 50 cm connected modem is slow and unstable.
even after the disable power saving * # 0011 #.
Can it be a hardware failure?
It could definitely be a hardware issue, but I am not sure how to test.

Have you tested your phone's wifi against routers other than your home router?

My regards, brother.
Thanks for your answer.
The bear had was 4.3 UCUEMJB gave me the motherboard of I747.
I never connect to wifi.
Step 3 did so:
1) install UCUEMJB_to_UCUFNE4_Firmware_update (not connected wifi)
2) install slimkat between the system (not connected wifi)
3) install d2att_I747UCUFNJ1_bootloader_modem_4.4.2_12-3-14 (ADVANCED wipe, reinstall slimkat not connected the wifi)
4) 12.1 cyanogenmod pass (not connect)
5) then went back to try 3 slimkat kernel (not connect)
wipe now advanced.

Have you tried it while running full stock rather than slimkat or another custom rom?
Not exactly sure what you meant about the motherboard, but if you changed it out, make sure you connected the wifi antenna correctly and didn't damage the plug.
If it doesn't work on full stock it's most likely a hw issue. Very possibly that antenna.

Greetings friend.
* Thanks for your reply.
* I have tried several custom rom,
several key modem without key
* I have several antennas have connected, keep doing the same
with wi-fi signal maximum is turned on and off.
They tell me that you can not repair hardware.?
I'll have to buy another card or I can I do?
It does sound like it's a hw problem. Unfortunately, I don't think it is something repairable. You'd first have to find the correct chip/radio and then replace the one on the board. Neither would be easy.
Your best bet imo, is to get a used replacement motherboard. You can find them online. Ebay usually has plenty. (Look for the motherboard and for working devices with broken screens).
Just make sure the imei is clean (not blacklisted).
