Since we now have Recovery fully working its a lot easier to root the device. I have made a simpler package for easier rooting and installing busybox.
Steps:
Download the: SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip and save it on phone (external sdcard)
Just flash any kernel which contains recovery (for stock based ROM) [e.g.: Advanced Stock Kernel]
Boot into recovery and flash that file "SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip"
now reboot and the firmware will be fully rooted with SuperSU and Busybox installed!!!

How did you get that FW? I just have 6.1.A.2.50.

About root: You can flash 6.1.A.2.50 kernel, then root, then flash again 6.1.A.2.55 kernel.
Curious also, I've got the 6.1.A.2.45 stock firmware myself, with a kernel stamp of July 30th.

You could either unlock the bootloader and flash a custom kernel and/or firmware which is pre-rooted, or try using this tool to root your SL.

Hi!
Can you provide us with the .ftf file of your firmware that came with the xperia SL? I tried searching in XDA and couldn't find stock ROMs for the SL. I just want it in case I need it to revert back to stock for warranty purposes. I flashed an Xperia S ROM without doing a backup. Although everything works fine, the Sony Bridge for Mac is detecting my phone as an xperia S. I know I can root and edit build.prop but flashing a stock ROM of the SL is easier as I don't need to root.

so these are the steps to ROOT
1) Download flash tool and firmware LT26ii_4.0.4_DE_6.1.A.2.45.ftf
2) Make sure you have drivers install for your mobile
3) Flash LT26ii_4.0.4_DE_6.1.A.2.45.ftf using flashtool
4) Now use root_with_restore_by_bin4ry_v18 for rooting your device

This guy seems like you just rooted 2.45 not 2.55.

Given it's a ftf, and I have 6.2.B.0.200 (leaked with root) already installed, I should be able to use flashtool on my Win7 PC and just flash the ftf onto my XPERIA S.
I'm guessing I'll lose root access.
If I then have a non-rooted 6.2.B.0.200 build, what is the 'preferred' way to restore/gain root access again?
Should I hang ten awaiting a pre-rooted build which one would installed via CWM/xRecovery and a /mnt/sdcard/ located ZIP ROM. (reset, clear caches and etc)
Just thinking I should really start with a clean build to reduce any oddities and move on from the 'leaked' version(s).

Thought to share the FTF I just created for my Z3+. It doesn't have any customization or root or anything of that sort, just straight FTF creation using FlashTool from files downloaded from XperiFirm.

Yes, it works. I am working on a debloated deodexed/zipaligned FW.
If you want I can upload the zip after I've done stability testings

are you sure it is for Z3+ dual ? bcos you are giving the E6553_DS_32.2.A.0.224_MY.ftf and (E6553) is the model of Z3+ single sim version. Pls ensure that. other wise phone will get bootloop.

Hi First of all sorry if I take same mistake in english. Second 2 weeks ago I was bought Sony Xperia Z3+ and I'm happy because this phone is amazing but unfortunally appear some bugs for example if I connected my wifi I can't use google play and another google application and I think I try to fix my phone and I would like to upgrade a newer Rom. But I affraid if I upgrade my phone this rom I lose guarantee. So I would like to ask for help on this topic. I look forward to your response.

The name of the ftf file is actually correct to contrary believe. Sony Github sources like to call it the E6553-DS. As you can tell, the DS Stands for 'Dual Sim'. Don't be too scared of flashing anything that mentions DS beside its file name as its still a legitimate file

Pls boss help me, i got loader.sin error when flashing. Pls help me out. flashtool ver 9.22.2 and Z3+ Dual (E6533) stock 32.1.... (6.0 marshmallow). How to flash without error. I am getting mad.

SideSense feature just only in Xperia XZ3 and u can use it now to your xperia device

- install from recovery menu
New Zip file uploaded u can install it without problem.

what is the error ?
u can install manual with Root Explorer move SideSenseApp Folder to system/priv-app set permission ( rwxr-xr-x )
and set permission for SideSenseApp.apk file in the folder ( rw-r--r-- )
then reboot your device.
i upload fixed zip file you can install it Thank you for informing.

How did you root your phone? And how did you install Recover menu? O don't want to unlock bootloader

I flashed the fixed zip on my Z5 (E6683) and appropriate menu item or settings item found no where. How to activate or make it usable?
Device rooted with stock ROM and, Zach's kernel. Super user mod and deodexed.
I think sidesense won't work on older Z series'.
