I have been using PDAnet for a couple of years now and never had a problem with the USB tether until I got an update a week or so ago and now it just gets stuck on "connecting to your phone....". I have been emailing the website for PDAnet and they seem to think the update screwed up a driver or something so I reinstalled everything on the phone and PC including the phone drivers. I preferr stock since I am too lazy and too old to keep up with the speed at which changes come so has anyone else had this problem? If so is there a fix? If theres no fix how hard is it to roll back this last update?
Tethering is important to me so all options are on the table even if I have to get back into rooting (though I preferr not to since you guys would get sick of my dumb questions).
Now this has me bothered. Ive never posted a question in here that didn't get some kind of assistance. That would ordinarily make me think my problem was unique except for I have found others with the same issue posting in the PDAnet and PDAnet plus feedback on the Play store.
I'll take any attempt at something I haven't tried from one of you smarter folks. I did a factory reset and it did nothing to help the problem.
Then complain to PDAnet as they probably need to update their app to work with 4.2.2
I have and they are being quite useless. I've just always had good luck here on XDA. Oh well maybe it isnt meant to be.
On another note does anyone have any suggestions on another app to try for tethering without root?
It's not hard to roll back, except that you'll have to unlock the device's bootloader, which wipes its data. Also, you'll have to find a factory image of 4.2.1 for your device, unless you roll back to 4.1.2, then get an update to 4.2.1 and figure out how to disable it for the 4.2.2 update. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
When new versions of Android are released its normal for apps to require an update to work properly.
Koush has that no root usb tethering app. Can't remember the name, search the play store fore more apps from the Rom Manager dev and you will see it. Never used it but that's the one I know of.
Just about any custom firmware will have any tethering block or tracker disabled so you can just tether natively with a ROM.
Solved with jTether (root needed).

** O.K. So I went back and downloaded the PRE 8 wifi tether installer from google code and it worked like a charm. In the event anyone else encounters the same issue I had, then this might lead you in the right direction.**
I used REGAW's guide to root my OTA Froyo'ed EVO. I installed the Wifi tether app, and all super user permissions are in place. The tether shows up on my laptops available wireless networks, but I'm unable to get connection to the internet once connected to the Evo access point. Is there a particular radio, kernal or some kind of special setup I'm overlooking. I searched these forums thoroughly and didn't find anything, so forgive me if there's a posting somewhere I might have missed. Any help is appreciated.
Just to note I'm using the wireless tether app from the android marketplace.
why cant people post info when they ask a REALLY vague question like this
-which rom did you flash
-which wifi tether app are you using.
there really is only one to be using - 'wifi tether for root users' is the name.
-does your laptop actually connect?
-how do you know its connected (yes this is a trick question to see if you even know what you're doing)
With the very limited info given , pre 7 should be the one to try and try access control. As is documented in many threads for Wifi tether. I have never taken the one from the market always went ot site dirct. We'll see if we get more info of rom, kenal????

newer builds are nice but frankly i use the one from the market and it works fine.
especially on a stock rooted rom.
I didn't post more info as I suddenly decided to try the pre8 install and it worked. So don't worry your pretty little head now there buddy. To anyone else who posted w/out the 'tude, thanks anyhow. I'd be happy to post my specific details for anyone who might need them. Thanks again!
I'm having the same problem.
I did the 2.2 OTA, unlocked by the guide and flashed Unrevoked-Forever. When in the stock 2.1 build (rooted) Wireless for root works great. As soon as I flash a 2.2 ROM (so far I have tried VirusXrom, Fresh, EVO.Zone, a plain 2.2 ROM, BakedSnack, AVA, and a few others) wireless for root stops functioning correctly. My laptop and desktop can see the AP, just not connect to it. This is the case for ROMs that ship with WFR and versions downloaded from the market.
If I flash back to my nandroid save of 2.1, WFR from the market works great.
I have also tried Kings #6 kernel and updated to the latest radio/wimax versions. I thought that I might be losing root some how, but if I open a terminal and type su I get dropped to the proper # prompt.
Any ideas?
Try going to code.google.com and then to the android wireless tether section. Hit the download tab and download the pre8 build of the tether. I used Android Sideload Wonder Machine to push the .apk to the phone, and after that my devices (laptop, psp, other mobile phones) connect to my EVO Android Tether access point w/out problem.
Sweet. That seems to have worked. I guess I just needed pre-pre8 versions are just, for some reson, incompatable with some aspect of our configurations.
Posting over my tether for proof-positive.
Awesome! Glad to hear that worked for u! Have fun..

Just got this tablet a couple days ago.
Zeki Tablet TBDG874. It has 4.2.2 Jelly bean. I have been trying to find a way to root it. Have tried several different ways to root(including the update.zip, and crystalroot.zip) and they fail which a expected considering it is a different version of Android OS. Also cant even seem to find a usb driver that works for it either. If i could find a usb driver could dig further in but can't seem to find one anywhere. Called Zeki customer support and they informed me the tablet is very new and they don't have any drivers for it either. Was rather surprised by it, and was also notified they didn't know what rooting was even though i tried to explain it, that was in vain.
Anywho, I am wondering if somebody could send me perhaps there working drivers for usb and maybe they might work on it, or if any other ideas i'm open to try them If you need more info let me know. . If this is in the wrong place, please move accordingly. I have been lingering on here for quite some time but never needed to post before due to great people on here always having a answer for nearly every problem i have had with any android device.

Well finally found drivers for this tablet. If anyone needs them send me a message and i will try and send it. Cant post things yet or i would put them here. However have not found a way to root it yet. Have tried many tools and methods so far to no avail. If anyone has any ideas i'm willing to try anything. I really dont want to have to send it back but it may be looking like i have to. It keeps locking up and have to reset it alot to make it usable again.

King root was the only way I could root mine, but the tablet went crazy after about 2 months and quit booting.
The only other way I could think of that I didn't try was to push /system/xbin through adb.
Another useful tool was called Uberizer, but it requires full adb access to push superuser.
Lmk how you make out...

If the driver is recommended you use Android tablet Multi Tools v1.02b will serve to remove the screen lock or wipe cache, etc ...
I know this is super old... but...
hey this prob sounds stupid but would the"drivers" you speak of fix my tablet that won't boot fully? it won't factory reset either. I've never tried rooting or anything.. it just stopped booting past where it says "Android" back in like 2012 or something & I just decided to pull it outa the closet and see if I could find a solution. thx!
Hey xda!
I rooted my phone 2-3 months ago, and regretted every day since!
I tried the guide on the forum, but i may have done something wrong.
Because it is still rooted, not with SuperSU, tho with TWRP.
Its not that the fact that my phone is rooted irritates me, its more that, i cannot update from kitkat 4.4.2 to kitkat 4.4.4.
and my Phonenetwork Signal & 3g/4g network connection is lost every 20-30 minutes.
When i am trying to Unroot, it is necessary to find my model number with the CMD. This worked for me the first time, but at that time, i couldnt find the right stock recovery backup. But now i cannot even see which model i have, because my device is never found using the developer kit tool.
I dont know how to do it, and i am very sad that i spent so many money on such a good phone, and then i "corrupted" it.
I dont know if somebody has an Easy Fix for me. i dont think so.
But if somebody knows how to do this, i would happily send it to the person who have courage to try Unroot my phone!
I will pay a fair wage for the process. Tho, HTC repair center offered me to change my internal storage and motherboard for bout 200euros.
I hope there is a superHero out there! :good::good::good:
best regards
szEIgo
First off, your understanding of what root does and means seems shaky at best. Root is just a permission change. Nothing more, nothing less. Root does not affect signal strength. Something else is going on there, that has nothing to do with root. Updating the phone might help, might not. I don't expect a drastic change in signal issues from OTA updates.
Root will also not effect the USB connectivity to your computer. This may be due to USB ports or cables; or very frequently just an issue with drivers. It too has nothing to do with being rooted.
Root in itself will not prevent OTA, although having custom recovery installed and/or any system files altered by root will prevent OTA from installing. But neither will prevent OTA notification and download from occurring. The more pressing issue, is that if you did not receive and/or able to install the 4.4.3 OTA, you won't received the 4.4.4 OTA either, as they need to be installed in sequence.
My advice is to troubleshoot the USB connectivity issue. Once you have that figured out, get CID and restore the stock nandroid and recovery. This will hopefully force the 4.4.3 OTA, then the 4.4.4 OTA.
Ty for your reply - but its not exactly what i meant in all ways.
Its not that the USB connectivity isnt working.
My pc can transfer, edit and read files from and to the HTC phone.
Its just that it cant seem to find the CID, because i did something wrong in the unrooting process.
I dont know much about all of this rooting, as you said.
Tho, I did not have any problems about my phones network connectivity, until i rooted my phone!
Im almost hundred procent sure, that this is some kind of software bug, because it has perfectly signal strength everywhere, its just that, some settings, makes it reset my phones 3g and network connection every 20 minutes or so.
Its like its going on airplane-mode, and then shortly comes back to normal.
to begin i thought i made some stupid settings on it, but then i looked all settings on the phone thru, 600 times, and couldnt find nothing!
Thank you for your reply.
I hope somebody is familiar with both of my problems:
1. cant find CID, because im stuck on some step of the unrooting process.
2. Resetting my network settings automatically every 20 minutes or so. (in short)

That doesn't prove anything. You can have MTP connectivity (internal storage access) but broken fastboot and/or adb connectivity. I've seen this many times here before.
adb/fastboot not finding the device is almost always a matter of connectivity (usually a driver issue).
If you have HTC Sync and/or HTC drivers installed, try to uninstall them and see if this fixes adb/fastboot connectivity.

Rooting doesn't affect the phone's performance or signal. Period.
If its a software bug, it must be due to some mod your applied, or some app you installed. I assume you must have applied some mods, or using a root app, otherwise why did you root?
And are you sure it isn't just a carrier network issue?
I have a Samsung s4 4.4.4 which I just rooted for the first time yesterday. Now my wireless Internet does not work. Not just my house, but my job or anywhere I have tested. Google play stated no connection, browsers won't connect or any other programs. I can use 4g lte but I don't understand what happened. In my house all my other units connect with no issue to include my wife's Samsung s5 non rooted.
Can anyone help me?
I'm still stock, I only rooted.

How did you root?
I used Odin v3, then patched cf auto.
No one has a solution for this problem? If I unroot, would my wifi work again?
Rooting will not bork Wifi ,unless you used the wrong model auto root, maybe?
Pp.
Try reflashing firmware
Reflashing the firmware? Like 4.4.4 or what

Yes, you can download the firmware from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/firmwares-official-mdl-mk2-nb4-t2816508
Use Odin at least version 3.7.
Some people have found that you need to flash once, remove the battery without shutting down the phone, and then re-flash a second time for everything to take.
This should not remove any of your data, but you may want to make a Nandroid backup beforehand, since you have rooted and have a recovery installed.

Well I won't lie, for some reason I feel like lose after reading this. I am extremely out of the loop since my s2. I'll search the threads on how to do a nan backup. And I guess I'll also safe my apk n whatever else so I won't lose them. I hope this fixes my wireless issue.
Can someone be able to tell me why this happened if I only rooted?
Or should I just install a better rom than stock?

If you have TWRP or CWM recovery installed, you can boot into Recovery and there is an option is each of those to create a Backup. If you don't have either installed, and you are rooted, you can use TWRPManager or GooManager from the Play store to install them, or you can use ODIN to install them.
As to the why? If you installed the CF-Autoroot for your phone model, there should be no reason that WiFi would have stopped working. I have stock 4.4.4 on my phone and used it to root mine, and many many others have.
Also, you may want to verify your model. Use Samsung Phone Info from the Play store to verify the model, bootloader, baseband, etc.

I have a sprint note 4 with the OB7 rooted with odin and I used chainfire a long time ago, over a year and I can't remember
Where do I start to update my phone without having to reflash it?
Sorry I will continue to search and hope to find an answer..
Thank for your help and time.
No PC or just looking for alternate method?
You may persuade Best Buy or Sprint to update it if you claim the camera doesn't focus or Wi-Fi Calling is broken. (I carried my phone to Samsung Experience in BB twice early in its day with those actual complaints and both times they insisted on flashing the firmware. Rather inconvenient for a rooted phone but if you're looking to update, may work to your benefit).
If you're wanting Marshmallow on it, I'd suggest removing your fingerprints and factory reset. May help make the transition less buggy.
If you've never updated beyond OB7, know that doing so will mean that you can't go back to to OB7 or lower with Odin. The bootloader will prevent that once upgraded. Just be aware of that limitation.

Well, I didn't know there was any updates past the OB7, When I updated with chainfire it kept it from updating through OTA... I also wasn't worried about it because I hate playing games on my phone and flashing all the saves away..
I suppose that is a bit of a clarification on my part... I do want to update the software and not my phone especially since I like the IR blaster and removable battery other options that the Note 7 doesn't have... I almost was going to upgrade to a new Note 7 early but I think I will wait for something new and I am sure I can update the software on the 4 and make it just as good if not better...
You can upgrade fairly easy using Odin. This thread will get you started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63868221
I did find this post interesting but can't say I've ever tried it. I would at least remove my fingerprints, wipe cache and dalvik-cache before trying this. But I also prefer to also factory reset and wipe internal memory. But that's not required if you're close to stock touchwiz. The dalvik-cache would also get rebuilt, if needed, without bootlooping. So I DON'T doubt it worked, just that I've read posts saying factory reset and fingerprint removal cleared some issues for some users. (Post#24)

Interesting I used chainfire and odin I think to root my phone originally, the really strange part is I used the supersu app from chainfire and used the full unroot option and it says I am unrooted, I originally wanted to do this just so I can continue playing pokemon go, haha, but I cannot automatically update my phone itself, so I am going to look at the thread you posted and see if I can update that way... I might have to attempt to use magisk also so I can root and continue to use the pokemon game...
In reply to your original question, I have a PC and used it to root originally but I don't have that computer anymore so I need to find the correct stuff to download and I would feel more comfortable with a bit of a how-to as a refresher

You'll need Odin, stock tar and Samsung USB driver to update with the method I'm familiar with. Make sure that Samsung KIES and Smart Switch applications aren't running when using Odin. You should open Odin in administrator mode but that isn't required for Windows 10. Use your original Samsung USB cable or another cable with data lines included.
The Samsung driver can be downloaded from Samsung support for the Note 4's thread. You'll find all you need in the stock tar thread for a how-to tutorial.
I never used Samsung Switch on my Note 4 so I'm looking for confirmation that it works for upgrading a modified phone to latest OTA update (as posted in that quote).
