[SIZE=+3]Frequently Asked Questions[/SIZE]
[SIZE=+2] Sprint Galaxy S3[/SIZE]
[SIZE=+1]This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. [/SIZE]
[SIZE=+1]Q1: How do I root the Sprint galaxy s3?[/SIZE]
All things root can be found in the link below, including all files (including the drivers) you will need and a step by step video! Make sure to visit the sticky in development and thank qbking77 for his root thread (this method works with 4.1.1 and 4.1.2)
ROOTING GUIDE WITH VIDEO
[SIZE=+1]Q2: I have bricked my device/my phone won't boot, what is the best way to fix it? (Use the Odin method for bringing your phone back to unrooted stock to bring in for repair)[/SIZE]
First, if you can get into recovery or download mode, you are not bricked, just sponged! If you can get into recovery, download and transfer a rom to your sd card and flash in recovery. If You can get into download mode you will need a stock .tar and Odin to "unbrick". The easiest way is to follow the link below for qbking77 guide on how to unroot/unbrick. Again, make sure you go to development and thank qbking77
unroot/unbricking guide with files and how to video
[SIZE=+1]Q3: What is a custom recovery?[/SIZE]
A custom recovery takes the place of Samsung's stock recovery once you root your phone. There are two custom recoveries (team win recovery project), The other is CWMR (ClockworkMod Recovery). When choosing which recovery to use, read the ROM/kernel op that you want to flash, most of the time they will tell you which recovery is sorted for their project. In most cases both recoveries work just fine, so ultimately the choice is up to you, but if you decide to go with a recovery that the developer did not recommend, you still not receive support within that developers thread!
Link to Both custom recoveries and stock recovery can be found here
[SIZE=+1]Q4: What is the best/most stable Rom/Kernel (question that should never be asked)[/SIZE]
This is simple, there is no best/most stable Rom/Kernel for this device! They are all excellent and the devs have spent countless hours trying to perfect them all. The only way to decide what is best/most stable for you is to try them all out until you find one that suits your needs. In post #2 and 3 of this thread I have included links to all Roms and kernels on xda! Happy flashing!
[SIZE=+1]Q5: Which Rom/Kernel will give me the best performance/battery life (this is another question that should never EVER be asked)?[/SIZE]
Please don't ever ask this in the forum, there is no best. Things like battery life and performance largely depend on the end users interaction with the phone. No two people use their phone in exactly the same way, so nobody can tell you which Rom/Kernel will work best for your needs. Many things affect battery life, including but not limited to, what and how often you sync things, signal, apps installed, widgets running, just to name a few. This is largely an opinion and for every 50 answers you receive you're likely to receive at least 30 different answers, so please, just don't ask it, it's a waste of everyone's time, including yours because you still never receive a straight answer
[SIZE=+1]Q6: What is the proper way to install a Rom?[/SIZE]
In almost every case the proper instructions for flashing a custom Rom will be posted in the Rom threads 1st post. Some roms will say dirty flashing is fine, I avoid this to minimize problems. Download Rom, transfer to external storage (sd card). Boot into recovery, factory reset (which wipes data and cache) and wipe dalvik cache. Go to install, find the Rom you've downloaded and flash. Please remember that if you choose to format data (you'll see this option in twrp (completely unnecessary in most situations) ) will erase things on your internal memory, so make sure your music, photos, backups, and everything else important is on your external storage! DO NOT POST BUG REPORTS IF YOU HAVE DONE A DIRTY FLASH, start clean and if the bug persists after a clean flash then you may report the bug. Be prepared to provide a log cat and to be able to explain how to reproduce said bug if necessary (log cats explained later in this FAQ) just to clarify, factory reset and wrong dalvik cache is what's necessary for a clean install of a Rom!
[SIZE=+1]Q7: What is ADB and how do I use it?[/SIZE]
Please see this thread for everything ADB
FULL ADB GUIDE
[SIZE=+1]Q8: How to do a logcat from ADB and what the heck is a logcat?[/SIZE]
For setting up ADB see Q7!
logcat allows us to log what the OS is doing, and possibly delve information for when things are not working
its quite simple Reading it is another.
To use logcat
Code:
adb shell
logcat
To logcat to a certain file do
Code:
adb shell
logcat -d > /sdcard/whatevertextfileyoulike.txt
Obviously using the name of a text file of your choice, not "whatever text file you like"
For further explanation follow the link in Q6
[SIZE=+1]Q9: Is there an app that will help me pull a logcat from the phone?[/SIZE]
Actually, yes, there is... but it does have its limitations, if you're stuck in a bootloop, the app will do you no good, you will have to use ADB for this, but if you're data is not connecting on a certain Rom, or something similar within the already booted OS this app can be rather handy and simpler for those who don't understand ADB. Link for app below
ALOGCAT APP
[SIZE=+1]Q10: Can I flash any modem on any ROM or do the versions have to match?[/SIZE]
Modems/basebands are completely independent of the roms, so you can run any modem on any ROM! (They do have to be for the device you are using though)
[SIZE=+1]Q11: Method to update prl without flashing back to a TOUCHWIZ ROM. Also how to enable baseband diagnostic mode. How to acquire MSL. (Not yet working on 3.4 kernels, which includes most updated aosp roms) [/SIZE]
Despite the common misconception that you have all probably heard, you have to be on a TOUCHWIZ ROM to update your prl, that is actually not true. The thread linked below will explain how and will also show you how to aquire your MSL and how to enable baseband diagnostics mode
See this thread for everything above
[SIZE=+1]Q12: How do I backup my IMEI and do I have to do it?[/SIZE]
The thread linked below will explain everything IMEI, along with how and why you should do it!
click here for all the needed info
[SIZE=+1]Q13: I have seen better battery stats (BBS for short) mentioned everywhere, what is this and why do I need it?[/SIZE]
BBS is an app made by an awesome XDA member that will help you identify what is keeping your phone from entering deep sleep (or wakelocks, which are explained below)
Thread for BBS
[SIZE=+1]Q14: What is a wakelock and how do I get rid of them?[/SIZE]
This is the most involved and comprehensive guide I have ever seen on XDA involving wakelocks, if you're having problems with wakelocks, please go here and read posts 1-3 it will help you tremendously! Make sure you thank this guy as he obviously spent tons of time on this guide
T.J. BENDERS FULL GUIDE TO WAKELOCKS
[SIZE=+1]Q15:I'm sure I'm following all the guides correctly, why does Odin still fail on me?[/SIZE]
The most common explanation for this is your data cable! Always, I repeat ALWAYS use a heavy duty data cable when Odin is at use. BlackBerry cables seen to be the most popular to use among Odin users and are very cheap online, save yourself some headaches and frustration in the future and pick one up!
[SIZE=+1]Q16: I am rooted and just received an OTA update message, should I accept it and if I do will I lose root?[/SIZE]
Cnexus has wrote a great FAQ for all things OTA please read his FAQ for everything you need to know Cnexus OTA FAQ To kill the update notification for good you can also refer to this thread how to stop the update notification by Galaxys3man30
[SIZE=+1]Q17:Is there a reference somewhere to explain all the different kernel governors and I/O schedulers?[/SIZE]
why, yes, yes there is! This is the best reference that I have found on xda Governors, I/O Schedulers and more reference
[SIZE=+1]Q18:??????..............................................[/SIZE]
Replace this block of text with a short answer for the above question. If the answer is complicated or otherwise lengthy, avoid the temptation to provide a full answer here. If the answer is truly that involved, this should be answered in another thread outside of this document. The answer then should provide a brief summary or overview and direct the reader to the document providing a full coverage of the topic

I like those, except there is no such thing as best or most stable Rom, that is an opinion and will not be touched in this FAQ... I will have links to all roms and kernels available for this device though... thanks for the suggestions... I also will not include what features roms have, it is up to the end user to read the roms op to figure out and understand all the features of roms

Hey all, you may remember me from back on the cdma hero. Well, I decided to pick up dev'ing again, and have been pushing source up to my github for working code for ice cream sandwich on our Epic 4G touches. It's my pleasure to say it's mostly functional, with just a few bugs remaining, of which i'll post at the end of my thread here. If I didn't list some functionality you're looking for in the bugs list, either it already works, or i forgot about it. Chances are high that it already works, though . Once I get nightlies to run, i'll make another thread for that.
Please, follow the instructions listed below for flashing, to prevent any damage to your phone
Follow me on twitter and github for updates, and what's going on right as it happens.
I think i already mentioned this once, but please, follow the instructions below when flashing this rom, for your phone's sake!
Here is my build from 03-15-12
And a mirror
MD5 checksum: 3ca7871541bf1fb5ecba70fd9661baef
Google Apps: HERE
Kernel: FC14
Recovery: Stock
What works
- GPS
- Camera
- SMS/MMS
- YouTube
- External SD mounted to /emmc
- Pretty much everything else
Bugs
- apps2sd doesn't work for EXTERNAL SD... unless you unmount the internal storage
- Video recording doesn't decode the files properly to mp4, so the output is unusable
- Music occasionally FCs. Feel free to post some logcats (pastebin'd only) if this happens to you
Once again, follow the instructions below, for flashing this ROM!!!
Installation Instructions
*WARNING* There have been a number of people over the past 6 weeks experiencing HARD BRICKS of their E4GT when flashing ICS from ROGUE 1.2.1 on FB15 AND NEWER KERNELS. Please see THIS THREAD for more information. As such, I am STRONGLY recommending that ALL FLASHING of this ROM be done ONLY from the STOCK CWM EL26 RECOVERY (download) EDIT: As an update to this, we're fairly certain this issue is sporadically occurring whenever a partition is being formatted by the recovery. this led us to believe that the problem lies in the kernel samsung has been putting out in the leaks. Please, for your sake, use, a recovery with a gingerbread kernel when flashing this rom, or doing nandroids, or even doing data or cache wipes.
First install of CM9
BACKUP your existing ROM
Did you backup your existing ROM? No? BACK IT UP, GENIUS
Reboot to DOWNLOAD mode (power+vol-down)
Using ODIN (link) flash to StockCWM EL26. Flashing CM9 from another recovery, such as Rogue, MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Reboot to recovery (power+vol-up)
WIPE DATA
Flash CM9
Flash GAPPS
Reboot to system
After rebooting, if you go BACK to recovery, you'll be on Rogue 1.2.2
Upgrading CM9
This build will upgrade from any CyanogenMod rom just fine. Just, be sure you're using the EL26-CWM recovery when flashing this rom. read my Edit up above for further details.
Reboot to DOWNLOAD mode (power+vol-down)
Using ODIN (link) flash to StockCWM EL26. Flashing CM9 from another recovery, such as Rogue, MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Reboot to recovery (power+vol-up)
Flash CM9
The newest update changes the way backuptools work for the install script. it reads custom user scripts in /system/add.d. Since the first rom i put out didn't have that, you'll need to reflash google apps after flashing cyanogenmod. after flashing this latest update, subsequent updates won't need you to reflash Google Apps
Wipe cache
Reboot to system
Here's a README in my github, that has thanks and whatever comes with a README
Enjoy!
EDIT: I updated the OP with the link to the rom. This is using some better coding for mms and sms receiving, and the LOS bug was fixed by the epiccm group, and pushed to mainstream cyanogenmod, so we we're benefiting from this. also, added in were sprint visual voicemail and sprint updates. There's surely other stuff i'm missing to add to what's working and what's not . Note that Cyanogenmod doesn't normally use stock kernel, rather it uses cm-kernel. the issue is that we don't have source for the kernel in ics, so we can't merge our board-files, etc into it just yet. But this isn't an issue, as far as functionality. It's just not the full CyanogenMod experience .
EDIT2: I had jerdog change the thread title to unofficial, because we aren't really in CM just yet. It's more because of my discrepancy, with not wanting the device tree to be pulled, because i'm still doing work on it.
EDIT3: Guys, don't be flashing any themes over this rom, reason being because i changed the framework files a bit in my source, and it hasn't been pulled into mainstream cyanogenmod yet.
EDIT4: Hey, i updated the OP with the build from yesterday, that i built. wasn't really planning on giving it out, but it appears that everyone is already using it, so might as well post the link in the OP. Please, don't ask what's changed, because not much has really changed: for this i wasn't planning on posting it... but oh well, it's out . Enjoy
Unacceptable
There seems to be a significant amount of animosity that permeates throughout the Android related forums. I'm not certain as to why this is, nor do I want to hear any reason for justification; what I do know is that it is unacceptable.
As moderators, we spend more time cleaning up flame & troll posts than working on our own community contributions. Unfounded accusations such as KANG'ing serve to drive away those valued members who try to contribute to XDA ... further lowering the quality of threads and posts on this forum.
XDA is about bringing together folks who have similar passions about mobile technology. I would have expected more maturity and professionalism. Instead, I find a thread full of inflammatory posts ... it is not constructive and serves no purpose.
While the Forum Moderator(s) take time from their busy schedule to effect cleanup and "damage control"; further detracting of this thread once it is re-opened will result in permanent holidays for those involved, rest assured that appeals will be non-negotiable. I would encourage members who have posted in this thread to reacquaint themselves with the forum rules - the best moderation is self-moderation.
Forum rules, please read!
To make sure this is clear from the beginning, and since I had to close the previous thread due to trolling and abuse, there is no kanging go on.
sbrissen and darchstar are and have been collaborating for awhile on this, helping each other out in the true spirit of the community. This thread will remain closed until darchstar is ready to have it opened.

If you look at the github and commit log you'll see the collaboration going on between the two. darchstar is publishing the builds per an agreement between the two. This is open source and community involvement at it's finest.
Any trolling will not be tolerated.

Sure, but i don't really want everybody to go on about the same issue over and over again. It really makes the thread really hard to look through, and find actual bug reports, with someone actually following proper protocol, and attaching as many log files as they can. i really do look at every post, btw. So yea please everyone be kind and help me out in this aspect here

cool, did you happen to see my post/everyone else commenting about the volume issue of playing music & receiving a notification of sorts (sms etc) where the volume gets really low until you toggle the levels

Thanks so much, been running great, and I could not be happier having darch, sbrissen, steady, and all the other greats on our team working together! Thanks again guys.
I'm not sure if this is a CM9 issue or a xda app issue but I just now noticed it with CM9 (since it's worked in the past with AOKP/Samsung leaks) Taking a screenshot and trying to upload it to any thread the app gives/says that the file is not a valid format. However I can upload it via the web without issues.

meh that's lame. Oh well guess it's time for a bug report to xda for the app then
everything for me is working decently well using it as daily so i love it
only issue that irks me is the very weak signal
Love it! Better than any Sammy ics leak, and prefer it over anything official even!? Everything looks great and is smooth. Unable to install sprint NBA mobile though as unable to install on any storage seems like. Also, mms is funky sometimes. Have to toggle 4g to fix.
Anybody notice super heavy battery drain between 14%-4%?

FAQ (A work in progress)
Where can I download this awesome ROM?
http://code.google.com/p/jellytime/downloads/list
What's so awesome about this ROM?
http://code.google.com/p/jellytime/wiki/Changelog
Is a full wipe needed?
No, it is not required, but it is strongly recommended. If you choose to do a "dirty" flash, please do NOT post bug reports or issues you are having, as something from an earlier release might be causing the issue.
I flashed this awesome ROM but I don't have (insert Google app here) why?
Gapps were removed from the ROM back on Alpha 7. You simply have to download the gapps from HERE and flash via recovery.
Is Project Butter working on this ROM?
vsync was implemented in Beta 9 and triple buffering in Beta 10. So, yes, Project Butter in included.
I'm having an issue and want to report it but I don't know how.
First, check the Issue Tracker to see if someone else has reported the same issue. If no one has reported the issue then start a new issue and follow the provided template to describe your issue. Don't forget to attach your logcat.
I keep posting an issue to the Issue Tracker but it keeps getting deleted?
First, did you click the continue button on the page before the Issue Tracker? Yes? Are you sure you read that page and filed your report as explained on that page? No? Then there's your answer. Read the page that tells you how to properly submit a bug report and submit your issue properly. It will be marked as Invalid until it is properly filed after a day or two if is not filed correctly it will be deleted. For more information on how to file a log read below.
I keep reading about this "logcat" what is it and how do I make on?
"The Android logging system provides a mechanism for collecting and viewing system debug output. Logs from various applications and portions of the system are collected in a series of circular buffers, which then can be viewed and filtered."1 To learn more about logcats and how to create them please read both of these threads, they are very informative;
Adrynalyne's Guide
Lanternslight456's Guide
Is Jellytime better/faster then (insert your favorite ROM here)?
Its all a matter of opinion. You'll get 10 different answers from 10 different people. The reason for this is different people use their phones for different things, so what may be an awesome experience for one might be terrible and full of bugs for another. The best way to choose is to just flash Jellytime and find out for yourself.
How's battery life?
This is also a matter of opinion. Like the previous question you'll get 10 different answers from 10 different users. People use their phones for different things. The only true answer is to find out for yourself. If you are having battery issues however, there are a few things you can do. First, find out which apps are causing the most drain. Kill them and see if that helps. Second you can re-calibrate your battery (check THIS out). You can also read the post I made that has a few more suggestions HERE.
I can not flash this ROM why?
Ok, Jellytime is a ROM with a 3.0 based Kernel. For whatever reason (don't ask me why) but for some first time flashers the 3.0 based Kernel doesn't play nice. Have no fear, there is a "fix' for this. All you have to do is flash an up-to-date stock, sense based ROM. LIKE THIS ONE HERE. After you've flashed that you can flash whatever ROM with a 3.0 based Kernel to your hearts content.

The purpose of this thread is to help those of you who aren't sure of something and to help find answers. All credits go to randomblame and his team for all their hard work and dedication. This will hopefully keep the dev thread clear of clutter so they can work more efficiently. Feel free to ask questions pertaining to his rom!
Over time I will be building a FAQ section (based on the questions asked here) that will be added here, to the Project Page Wiki, and hopefully to the thread page. Please keep this thread clear from flaming, there are no stupid questions. I ask that you read all posts here, the OP found above, and the Project Page before posting. Thanks
If you have a Question you would like answered please use this format;
Q: blah blah blah
If you are Answering a question please use this format;
"Quote question you are answering"
A: blah blah blah
If you are answering questions please provide any links to useful information about the question. If you are answering multiple questions please multi-quote them and answer them as above (quote then answer, quote then answer, etc). Absolutely no flaming. Any flaming will not be tolerated and will be reported directly to the mod.
I think the most important question for new users to Jellytime is:
Q: Is project butter implemented in this rom? If not will it be implemented? If not why it won't be implemented?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Ignore
Q: Does using V6 Supercharger break anything when using this ROM? I'm on RC 5.1, while it doesn't seem that V6 improves anything (JellyTime is already super fast!), I'm not quite sure if it breaks anything
Q: Is it safe to remove the stock launcher, nova launcher, and the news and weather apps?
Thanks

Honestly, the best way to find out is to try it yourself. Nandroid your current ROM and install the other one. If you don't like it, just restore your backup. The differences between them are slight, and it comes down to personal preference.
Q: is there a faster way of getting screenshots? The only method I know for this rom is Power + Menu then choose screenshot. In sense roms I used to do Power + Home and a screenshot is taken right away. I also checked Settings > System > Hardware keys and there is no option for screenshots for custom actions

AFAIK holding the Power and VOL Down button at the same time and holding until the screenshot is taken is the other way without doing the menu option. It takes a bit of getting used to and the timing has to be pretty close or it'll just activate either the power menu or the volume will go down. I'm not aware of another method, but if anyone has any suggestions, all are welcome.

I'm sure there's probably a blog or thread on XDA somewhere for this, if so please just throw a link up, but I am curious about the differences in the CPU Governors that are available. Other than just trying them all to see how my DHD performs, it would be nice to know about the subtle differences that make one operate different from the other.

A: well i moved from cwm to 4EXT and to tell You frankly, i just hope that 4EXT will support all android phones in the future!!! all though still on RC version it is just a pleasure working in, both the .apk and the recovery touch it self. Besides the touch function 4EXT also has a much better, wider interface, no need to do jump in and out of dirs, the dev has made it so that You can for example choose if You wanna wipe cache and dalvik in one instance, and in tools You find all kinds of different and helpful combinations. 4EXT has everything + allot more then cwm. And not forgetting the .apk, from in there You can plan how You wanna for example wipe, install and so on, and by just pressing the button, it reboots and does the task You planed, reboots and that is that. Especially now when all the time wiping and re installing, it was tiresome and time consuming with cwm, but now....it is just quickly dun by the 4EXT.apk, just using half the time of what i used on cwm. As they say.....4EXT is the future recovery and i have been hearing that the dev. is also experimenting implementing rooting features, so You just install the .apk and it then roots a stock phone......that would just be great!!!

It also seems that people are having fewer issues with things not showing up using 4ext rather than CWM, or maybe that was ROM manager. But you are right - 4ext works wonders in multitasking like flashing wipe rom, rom, fix, fix, gapps, TiBu all at once.

So you got yourself a brand new, shining, awesome-as-hell HTC One X. And you want to root it. Good choice. Now, here's what you must read before you post in any thread, because this is your key to not getting flamed, or be subjected to the "roll eyes" emoticon.
So, let's get started-
A. Unlock your phone!
Go to
www.htcdev.com

, and unless your a noob to the web as well, the rest should be easy.
B. Root your phone and install a custom recovery-

D. Your friends probably told you about this, or you've done it on windows. Overclocking. In my opinion, only one stable kernel supports it and it is Faux123's kernel.
There is no other kernel like it and you have got to try it out. But first, some fun facts-
1. You can find all of faux's latest kernels at http://faux.androidro.ms/ His thread title may be outdated, but that's because the ones not in the thread are betas
2. When you try out a beta you agree to post feedback with catlogs and last_ksmgs
3. Use only System tuner For undervolting or underclocking- Yes, it helps improve battery life. Only do it till -100uV or things will start bootlooping.
4. Use an app like acatlog to extract a catlog. to get a last_ksmg, use the following command in Command prompt- cat /proc/last_ksmg > /sdcard/last_ksmg.log or the following in terminal-
cat /proc/last_ksmg > /sdcard/last_ksmg.log (thanks owain94)
5. Immediately after flashing faux's kernel, Open this file using root explorer- /sys/kernel/debug/t3_variant
If your cpu_process_id=
"0"- Sorry, but your in for a world of hurt. I'd recommend only trying out his mainline edition, nothing else.
"1"- Well, you''ll do just fine, but it still sorta shaky. Don't think about overclocking though, unless you're on a beta or VF version
"2"- Knock yourself Out! ;p
"3"- Lock that phone in Fort Knox and, if you see faux lurking around your house, then just run . Jokes aside, your phone can do ANYTHING.

Now, for underclocking. It is a known bug that underclocked frequencies don't stick. However, n3ocort3x made a breakthrough and, using his kernel from here, you can underclock, undervolt, and set the number of cores the cpu should run on. Yes, it leads to MASSIVE battery life. Kudos, n3o.
Same rules apply- Provide a logcat and last_ksmg in case of a random reboot and be sure to provide tons of feedback! n3o spends a lot of time on these kernels and you gotta appreciate that.
Note: sense, AOSP versions are separate and have different downloads, so no need to repack.

E. The ROMs:-
1. In my opinion, if you want Stability, Speed, and Smoothness without any tweaks, etc. then try out OrdroidX ROM
2.If customization (huge loads of it) is what you want, then try out ViperX ROM
3. For sense with AOSP look and feel- Renovate
4. Skinned sense- Coredroid
5. For the AOSP Experience-
CyanogenMod 10- Team EndeavorU
AOKP- LordClockan (try out the two to see the difference, it won't kill your phone!)
ParanoidAndroid- Floatshow- Tablet/Hybrid mode Android on your phone.
Domination- Owain94- A mixture of all of the above- Real Awesome ROM.Doesn't mean you don't try out the others, they got their specialities as well.
MIUI-dekkyy
4. Known bugs with all of these, don't post unless it's not according to changelog or Dev asks to know-
a. your keyboard will reset when you reboot your phone ie. swiftkey, swype, etc. will not stay default.
solution- Restore the keyboard via titanium backup, don't re-download it from the market
b. Status bar will be laggy only on the homescreen.
c. scrolling in Google Chrome may not be elastic.

The above is far from the actual number of roms out there and is only to simplify things for you. For a full list, please visit this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832891
F. Miscellaneous things-
1. You don't need to repack Faux's, Franco's or N30cort3x kernels for sense based ROMs. REMEMBER THIS.
2. You need to repack the above for AOSP based ROMs (unless they have a specific version for AOSP like NCX).
3. Repack them yourself from here- www.nibble.cc/repack
4. Feel free to share your repacked kernels on the respective threads, but don't ask for any.
5. Don't post anything unrelated to Android Development here. This post itself is actually a great example of What shoudn't be here, but times are tough.
6. For those who previously owned an HTC, We don't yet have S-OFF. (yeah, Suckage majoris)
7. It is currently not possible to have beats audio or sense camera app on AOSP ROMs.
8. Do not ask for ETA's. I will personally destroy you.
9. Benchmarks do not indicate anything. If you think yours is impressive, then go aheaad and post it. But, do not judge the ROM based on it.
10. This forum is only for the INTERNATIONAL QUAD-CORE TEGRA 3 HTC One X.
11. Software cannot damage hardware. If your speaker is blown, screen has yellow spots, etc. HTC is who must contact. In the case of zero infinity's xloud mod, he did warn you and give a disclaimer.
12. If you don't see a download link, that's because it's not uploaded yet!

There are atleast 3 times as many kernels and ROMs than those I've Posted here, and each is unique in it's own way, so check them out when you can and provide feedback. You don't become a senior member by being a silent flasher. Devs, please don't be offended I didn't post your work here, I just want it to be as simple as possible
May the force be with you :good::highfive: could someone post the last_ksmg command pls so I can addit.
MOD EDIT: SUGGESTIONS HERE ARE BASED ON THE OP EXPERIENCE, YOU MAY WANT TO TRY OTHER ROM´S OR KERNELS BY YOURSELF.
here you go buddy
from the computer in the terminal
adb shell cat /proc/last_ksmg > /sdcard/last_ksmg.log
from the temrinal on the phone
cat /proc/last_ksmg > /sdcard/last_ksmg.log
also mod please sticky this
.
Stickied for the time being, please stay on topic and with respect to others.
Thanks,

Nice idea and your intentions are good but i don't think the sections D and E are complete and I don't want to be a pain but I
think it's wiser to leave your own opinion out.
There are many more kernel and rom Developers and they all deserve respect for there hard work.
About these 2 sections people should make there own choices I think,
you can't describe them in a sticky as everyone has a different opinion/experience about roms and kernels.

JellyBean - 4.2.2 - TouchWiz ROMs are 4.2.2 and there's a few CM10.1 ROMs out there still.

Okay, I see.. but I don't quite understand what flashing, nandroiding, tweaking, etc. mean?
* - anything and everything possible. A good example would be "All my friends live at 10* Croxley Street." This is saying that they are all live at 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108 and 109.
Dev - See developer.
Developer - A man or woman who has created (developed) software.
ROM - 1. A modified version of the Android operating system operating system. 2. Read Only Memory, a place where information is stored and can not be destroyed, modified or written to.
AOSP - "Android open source project" a project by Google Inc. to give android to developers and manufactures for free (see open-source)
Open-source - (not to be confussed with free) A peice of software that is free to edit, use, distribute and share with no charge.
CM - See cyanogenmod
Cyanogenmod - A free open-source project based on the AOSP. It is a modded (see modded) version of the Android firmware
Firmware - see ROM (1)
Stock - An unchanged version of something. Example: I just flashed stock sense
OTA - "Over the air" a term used to indicate software that was sent to phones directly through the internet to their phones.
FOTA - "Firmware over the air" this normally refers to ROM's but can refer to radio firmware (see OTA)
Firmware - a piece of software to make hardware function correctly. This can refer to Radio Firmware, but is normally used as another name for ROM (1)
Radio - (not to be confused with Radio Firmware) A piece of hardware that allows communication. There are 3 main radios in your phone. Bluetooth, WiFi and GSM/CDMA.
Radio Firmware - (see firmware) a type of software that allows correct communication with the radio and the operating system. A newer firmware would normally improve battery life and call quality. The radio firmware only applies to the CDMA/GSM radio.
CDMA/GSM - A type of network communication between phones and carriers. GSM phones normally are included with SIM Cards that authorize them onto the network. CDMA have this authorization built in and do not need a sim card.
Kernel - An important part of all operating systems that handles the CPU and other vital components. A modded kernel may be used for overclocking.
Overclock - (not to be confused with underclock) to exced the default maximum CPU speed. This could make a phone more powerful but may cause damage. Although no damaged has been reported so far it could still drain battery life.
Underclock - to change your phones maximum frequency to LOWER than the default to attempt to extend the phones lifespan and battery.
Mod - A modification to a part of the phones software. It is also POSSIBLE to mod the phones hardware but is not recommended.
Modding - To perform a mod
Modded - to have included mods
Modification - see mod
Governor - a system embedded into the kernel to automatically change the current working CPU frequency depending on the workload. It would only go up to what it is overclocked (or underclocked) to, this is called the maximum frequency. It would not drop bellow the (just as eaisly configurable) minimum frequency.
Library's/Libs - a set of instructions for applications to use to function. A functioning camera lib would allow the camera to be used.
WFS - "Wildfire S" an armv6 device made by HTC in 2011.
Logcat - A logging system built into the ADB

Okay, I think I'm ready to begin! Where do I start?
You have a few ways to go here..
But before we continue, let me explain something to you. Our phones have this 'flash counter' built in.
There is a way to reset it after you've triggered it, so don't be alarmed.
Flash counter? What's that?
The flash counter is a binary counter built in Samsung phones that is used by Samsung to basically help identify if you have been tampering with your firmware and flashing unofficial software.
Each time you flash unofficial firmware via Odin, your binary flash counter goes up by 1.

Ah, okay.. is there anyway to bypass that?
Yes and no.
How to get root easier and faster, triggering the counter:
Chainfire has developed an way to flash a custom recovery and root your phone.
Visit this thread to download and see the many features it has: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294005

NOTE: You CAN reset your flash counter to 0 using an application developed by Chainfire called Triangle Away which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
What can I do now that I have root?
You can backup your apps using Titanium Backup found in the Google Play store.
Use apps that require root.
Etc.

What can I do now that I have a custom recovery?
Make a NANDROID backup of your current setup and restore that backup!
Flash ROMs, modems, kernels, themes, etc.
Wipe data, clear cache, etc.

whats the truth?
I was looking around at various sources when I updated to MK2_4.3 from 4.2.2 and I read that once you've Flashed MK2, updated 4.3 that there is no way to go back down to 4.2 . . . is this true? Also is it possible and/or stable to flash 4.2.2 Roms from MK2?

That is only true if you have done one of these three thing:
#1: Allowed OTA update to 4.3
#2: Updated to 4.3 using Kies
#3: Odin flashed the official stock 4.3 firmware from http://SamMobile (or elsewhere)
If you have not done any of those three things you can go back and forth between 4.2.2 and 4.3.
Good Luck!

How would I know if I were able to flash 4.2.2 Rom or not? Just give it a try and if it works then im good and if not it will say error or what (I am just asking so I don't try something and screw things up)
Also kinda off topic but Ive been trying to Flash a jfltexx Rom which is the GT-9505 int variant, I tend to use alot of their Roms and never have problems but latley when flashing aosp based roms like omni it says that i could only use jfltetmo builds, I was thinking that I could flash a TW based build like Foxhound or something then factory reset and flash from there and maybe it would register as a jfltexx but so far no luck. Thanks again

Personally I stay away from roms like that, I just stick to the
M919 Samsung Jellybean Touchwiz based custom roms.
Don't get me wrong I tried basically all of those AOSP/AOKP/CM/GE/KitCat and the Ported roms
but found that they all have one thing in common, they are basically stripped bare from all the niceties
and the bells and whistles which make the M919 Tmobile Jellybean Touchwiz based roms so excellent.
Since I am really not too much into those other roms, I would hate to guess at giving you or anyone
else any suggestions as to how to fix any issues you are having with those other roms.
As far as trying to go back to the M919 4.2.2 Jellybean Touchwiz based custom roms go it's easy,
just make a nandroid backup of your existing rom and see for yourself, if you don't get any errors
or other unusual issues trying to flash those roms then then you are Ok and need not worry about
the KNOX pox.
Remember there are only three ways to get KNOX on your phone as you saw in my previous post.
Good luck!

It might be coming from Cell Broadcast.. I'm not sure if Wicked has it or not but I remember getting amber alerts from the cell broadcast that was on the cm rom and there was settings on there to turn it on & off or if you wanted it keep it on you were able to control the types of emergency's to get alerts from like weather emergency's like hurricanes etc or amber alerts

Yeah I know what you mean... I agree with you about touchwiz ROMs compared with aosp/aokp/cm/pa/...
I was just asking because I've had this problem before and some how it went away and I never thought of it again until this last week went trying to flash Omni Rom...
What is your favorite Rom or some of your favorites... Like do you use several different roms or do you stay with a particular rom update to update?? Just wondering

Doctor ketan's PORTED Custom Rom v2
===============================
Dr.ketan's PORTED Custom Rom v2 is based on the Samsung
Galaxy Note 4 N910F 4.4.4 NK4 Touchwiz Kitkat firmware.
Please Note: This is a snapdragon PORT from the international
Note 4 forum and this is an ODEX rom.
For best results please be sure to read the following
important instructions and do a full and "complete"
wipe before flashing.
==========================
If you don't, please blame yourself for any issues you might have like bootloops,
fc's and getting stuck on the boot up screen if you do a dirty flash
or if you don't follow the following instructions.
-------------------------
Here are some important instructions to follow after flashing this rom
#1:Once you are done flashing and you see the initial setup screen wait until you see
a dr.ketan small rectangle popup on bottom of screen saying "thanks for using this rom".
#2: Once you see the popup reboot and wait a couple minutes to let the rom settle down.
#3: Now you can start the normal initial setup just like any other roms you have flashed.
#4: After you have flashed the rom DON'T install or flash anything for an hour or more so you
will know if the rom is working properly before you install or flash any mods, addons or games.
(Especially Exposed Framework and it's modules)
#5: Don't flash any firmware, modems, bootloaders or kernels which are not designed for N910T.
If you have any rom related questions please visit Dr.ketan's link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/n910f-custom-rom-t2941006
There you'll find a lot of very detailed, useful and interesting information about this rom.
All of your questions will be answered in dr.ketan's thread if you read the OP thoroughly.

Awhile back there was a special tool for porting roms, it was a windows applications.
I think I still have the old windows tool somewhere which more or less made porting
easy, wish I could recall the exact name of the tool...
Of course it's obsolete now and would not work on any of the current roms or phones.
It must have been about three to five years ago when I first used that porting tool...
I think it was in the old Samsung Infuse, Captivate or GS2 days when I used it.
Perhaps you can recall the exact name of that windows android porting tool?.

That's why you don't see it. But you can see the little speaker icon right?

Yeah I recall that tool also, definitely wouldn't be of any use for us now unfortunately. Was made for older devices and file system partions etc. Definitely would have been nice tho. Maybe @soloilmeglio just did not understand you, after all he has a very foreign name LOL
Perhaps one of these days one of the developers who knows how to create windows
applications will come up with a similar porting tool.
What really surprises me is that in the Note Edge developer's thread
the developer already has a rom with the Aroma installer working.

Since the note edge is so similar to our firmware I wonder why none
of the devs here in the note 4 forum has gotten aroma installer to work.

Here is the link this is directly pulled from @turilo post on the x-note thread https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwM9Hz1V4I9dZi01Q2tJak5wbWs/edit?usp=docslist_api
I am similarly having issues seeing the captcha. I have tried Chrome dolphin and the built-in browser for the note 4, I've tried changing it to desktop mode nothing works.
my assumption is that it is a mediafire problem but unsure.

Got it working; but what's the md5? My download got interrupted part way through by a rebooting CM12 build
I continued where it left off so want to make sure md5 is good.
First ,i want to say thank you for your hard work in porting this new rom for us. Downloading now and will coming back with some feedback. I wish you all a very nice day and enjoy this rom. :good:

Excellent work Misterjunky, I'll be doing some ports myself soon enough also with the data fix I created for these international roms. I used to port for the note 2 and 3 forgotten to mention that to you when I gave you the fix ☺

A couple hours ago I added the signal/data fix to the Xnote rom and even
though it flashed successfully it just bootlooped at the startup screen so
I had to pull the battery.
So I would guess that the signal/data fix was only designed for dr.ketan's rom.
