S-Pen Replacement Features on AOSP Roms - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I would like to keep this thread updated with apps people use to replace certain s-pen features such as drawing on screenshots and quick-notes when using AOSP based roms.
So, please, let me know what works for you and I will list the feature and the app!

If I want to draw on screen shots I use Skitch.
Since, as far as I know, we can't access or raise the pen-out event in AOSP I don't have a "quick" note solution. But I do use Papyrus Beta to jot things down.

Do we have to use touchwiz to benefit from the S pen features?

Or will they still work in nova launcher? (obviously still on a Sammy rom, not aosp)
Thanks
You obviously still can use all the features with another launcher, you just have to use stock apps (video player, email, gallery, dialer ... etc)
To make use of spen features, you only need those tw frameworks. You may use spen features on any launcher provided you have those frameworks.
And as you said,it will work on Sammy based roms only.It won't work on AOSP,AOKP roms as they lack tw frameworks.....

As others have mentioned before, you can use any launcher.
But for the S-Pen functionality, you need to use the stock apps provided by Samsung.
You "might" lose out on some of the functionality, if you change the launcher. This is just my guess.

I just thought of quick command, I think it only works on TW's home screens and app drawer.
Thanks, to be honest I doubt I'll use the s pen too much anyway, just want the big screen - I find my s3 too small!
So it means no SPen apps on custom roms??? I love changing my roms. Its kind of a deal breaker for me.

It will work on TW-based custom roms but on AOSP/AOKP it will behave just like your finger, no pressure sensitivity and such.

No... There is an App called *G-Note* ( Just like the stock S-Memo app ) that comes with the CM10 PA Based Hybrid JB Rom that I run.. works great!
You obviously still can use all the features with another launcher, you just have to use stock apps

For apps that support pressure sensitivity it will work just fine (take a look at the note 10.1 forum for some examples), but I THINK you still need to be on a TW based rom. I'm not sure though, too bad I no longer have my Note 1 to check it.
i ordinarily flash straight to pure aosp from whatever manufacturer paint job the phone comes with (sense, touchwiz, blur), but after watching the hands on video i may actually stay stock with the note 2, my only reason for switching from stock on my gs3 was ICS/big red not pushing out JB, but the s-pen functions look so good.

I've not found any apps on the market that support pressure with my Flyer.

Is there such a thing as a stable touch wiz ROM that's themed to look like aosp?

Hey guys. New to the note 2 forums. I've been using a nexus for the last 4 years and one thing I really dislike about the note is the way touch wiz looks. However I would rather not go to cm10 and lose out on the s pen functionality.
Is there a middle ground somewhere?

I found a great combination of Frosty JB and Foreverloco's AOSP theme work great. It truly gets rid of all the things annoying about the TW Theme. Links are below.

Thanks! I don't seem to see that rom listed under the list. Is there a specific version of the theme I should download?

Not trying to be that guy... But what do you use it for? I can swype a note faster and more readable with my finger. With Carbon I get AOSP 4.2.2, Voodoo sound, 2GHZ over clock. I can still use the stupid pen just not the Spen app.

The first link is for the rom, the second link is for the theme to be flashed on top of the rom. Make sure you follow the directions to a T.
I love airview, had an Ascend with a trackball and used it religiously viewing webpages, making selections (if you think our phone is to big for one handed use, try comjng from a scroll ball phone where my hand was usually always near the bottom of the screen), and correcting text, etc.
Im currently in the process of retraining myself just to use screen taps for full functionality, but airview is nice

You can also flash jelly beans 9 that's found ink the Verizon section then flash the T Mobile modem back after. Works like a charm!

I don't use the pen very much, but I found the touchwiz camera app so much better than stock android that I had to stick with tw.

AOSP ROM and S-Pen apps

Hi, I will get my Note 2 in the next days and before I get it I'm reading a lot about how to flash ROMs, I've always had Motorola phones so Samsung flashing is a completely new world for me. I've read that if you flash an AOSP based ROM you will lose all the S-Pen apps and stuff, obviously I will test all those apps before I flash, but I really don't like the TouchWiz interface so in the near future I will change it to AOSP, is there a way to install all those S-Pen/Samsung apps in a fresh AOSP ROM?
Thanks!
No. But you can download papyrus from the play store. Its a note taking app. Its mentioned tons of times in tons of posts that spen apps will not work or be in aosp ROMs because they are touch wiz based.

Thank you! I Will try that app when I get the phone.
You can also stay on a tw rom and just use a different launcher. Then you are not stuck with the tw interface, but can still use the s pen apps

[Q] Can you get "Samsung" hand gestures on TW?

Running ParanoidKangDroid v.2.30 ROM. I'd like to have the hand gestures that come with TouchWiz. Is there a possible way to have this on my ROM?

you should try to keep all your questions in 1 post. you'll actually get better help that way.
you are on an AOSP rom. you want TW features which are woven into the stock firmware's framework. its essentially a choice: a few TW features vs custom AOSP optimizations. both can share some similar customizations, but not everything is interchangeable.
Any of the feature on TW WILL NOT WORK ON ANYTHING BESIDES TW.....
None!
They're dependant on touchwiz and won't work on anything else.

As long as source code for TW stays unreleased its impossible to port. That's why no devs bother to try and port. Its going in blindfolded. Same with Sense and other UI overlays. So when Samsung releases source code it'll be possible.

What features exactly? There's apps like Wave Control that do similar things...
Ya, there are a lot of apps that allow TouchWiz like features. There is a MMS apk for AOSP roms that has the while in messaging put phone to ear for Direct Dial. Just search in the playstore TouchWiz or galaxy s III things like that.

Well for that particular feature, I recently discovered that Liquidsmooth (and quite possibly CM, as well as JellyBam and others) have this feature in the settings for the stock messaging application. It's the last setting, labelled as "Direct Dial", but it's pretty inconsistent with the auto-dialing. I've noticed that when I'm laying down and attempt to call it won't work because if I put the phone to my ear the screen just flips to landscape view, and stays on. When I'm up right it tends to work, however I haven't had many opportunities to test this out yet.
That would be sweet if someone got two working with aosp, they need to release the code...

Help with halo for note 2

Hey guys, I am not from around here. But I need your help. My friend has a Galaxy Note 2 with Android Revolution HD 11.2. I am the one who does all the mods for him. He is happy with it, but after seeing PA Halo he really wants it. But a note 2 without touchwiz s pen features is no good. So what I need help with is, is there any touchwiz based ROM that has Halo already implemented or planning to be implemented soon. Also, can it or will it ever be implemented? The threads are too confusing for me as I am not used to bring in the Galaxy Note 2 thread. Please help me.
Thanks in advance.

If he really needs the SPen features, but really wants to use PA, then you can install GMD SPen control and Papyrus. GMD allows you to set up triggers for pen out/in actions as well as SPen gestures and floating quicklaunch bars for common SPen apps and actions. Papyrus is, IMO, the best SPen app on the market. Both apps will cost a couple dollars, but well worth it for gaining back 90% of the SPen functionality on an AOSP ROM.
Also, with PA, you can add permanent apps to HALO that you find convenient for opening in a floating window.
The only feature I haven't found a suitable replacement for is the cut/copy feature of the SPen's side button.
Unrelated sidebar, speaking of cut/copy, Cut Copy is a great band. You should check them out.

Thank you jallenhayslett, I'll look into that. But, I am from India and debit card support here is a hit an miss in Google play store. Most of can't pay in the play store and credit cards are rather rare. I also refuse to download cracked stuff. No piracy policy.
Do any of the touchwiz based ROM developers plan to add Halo? I am willing to wait a few weeks.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I doubt its going to happen. Halo is a PA development, AOSP, and beta at that. The closest thing I've seen that exists for TouchWiz is an app/service called Floating Notifications. It's in the Play Store, but I'm quite certain its a paid app.
---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:12 PM ----------
You could also consider something I saw on XDA's front page a couple weeks ago. Its called Bubble Launcher. I haven't messed with it, but it looks capable and promising.
Floating Notification is pretty similar to PA Halo
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I agree that Halo is a PA feature. But from what I got to know off of the nexus 4 thread, its now open source and all are allowed to implement it. That's why I asked if any developers are planning on it
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
It might be possible, but based on my limited knowledge of the systems, implementing it into Samsungs system would be more trouble than most devs are willing to tackle. That doesn't mean its impossible, though. Stock Sammy ROMs are now implementing floating windows and such. So, given enough time, and a curious enough dev, it could happen.
Hopefully that curious developer doesn't have to be me. I already have enough coding work at college as it is.

Thanks etecdailey, please give me some feed back after a few days of usage. My friend isn't very skilled at troubleshooting. So.... I have to make sure that its stable before flashing it for him. And I also thank all the others for making me feel at home.
