In some roms, developers put in a special mms.apk that has an option at the top of the settings called something like "Appearance Settings" that allows you to change pretty much all of the colors in the app, and add bubbles to the conversations.
I know one rom that had this was PACman rom 4.1.2. Once it went to 4.2.1 it was gone.
I tried the one from this ROM - Vanilla Rootbox 4.2.2. Since it and the rom I am using are both 4.2.2 I figured it would work, but it just crashes at startup.
I'm using the latest CM10.1 4.2.2. Does a compatible version of this exist out there? And if not yet, is there a thread or something that I can keep checking on its development? I simply don't even know the name of it, even though I have searched quite a bit for it.
Thanks

I was wondering if its possible to pull the CM settings from CM 6 and use it in another rom (obviously not a stock sense based rom). I know there is an apk in /system named CM parts which apparently has all the settings, but just pulling the apk and putting it in /system on new rom doesnt work. and no, im not trying to rip off the settings to use in a rom build to release. strictly personal use.
I wish, give it a try, that's what nandroid is for
personally though if you using ASOP. CM is the only way to go...
I'm a new Android user and I'm using Android Revolution HD 9.4.0.
I've been looking through the 'What does your Home Page look like' Thread and I'm interested in trying out other ROMs and have some questions.
1. Is there a poll at XDA that I can't find, that shows how popular certain ROMs are?
2. Is there a general opinion that one ROM is better or more stable than another? (this is my daily phone, so it needs to work reliably)
3. If I install another ROM, can I somehow keep my settings, apps and data, by restoring from a backup, or does that not work?
4. I would like to have 4x5 menu layout on the home screen, which ROM would I need to install to get that?
5. Should I just use ARHD and be patient until Jelly Bean comes out and see what happens then?

1. No polls as far as I know. There are modified stock roms, source built aosp type roms and people all have their preferences. It really comes down to what kind of functions/style/performance you want.
2. Roms built on stock HTC roms tend to have the least problems or issues because they can use original drivers etc.
3. In MOST cases you can restore apps and app data but system settings and data might interfere with roms depending which kernel etc. they have.
4. You can do this with most 3rd party launchers such as Go Launcher Ex, Nova Launcher etc. No need to flash roms to be able to edit home screen layout.
5. You could yes. But if you are thinking of flashing another custom rom anyway, why not try a few of them and see for yourself what you like most. You might be surprised Plus there are Jelly Bean roms already out there.
XDA Roms are solid and stable, i'd say read and compare each roms to suit your liking and go for it! owning a HOX is half the fun until your running one of the custom roms
If you love Customizations then definitely try ViperX ROM, full of customizations
If you want JB ROM try either CM10, AOKP or Paranoid ROM{ tablet mode feature}
or try Domination ROMwith all features of AOKP, CM10 & Paranoid.
Hi,
i recently upgraded ICS to JB and tried two custom rom (Revolution/Insertcoin). It seems compare with ICS, JB custom rom doesn't really have any customization (e.g. quick settings, app drawer, tweak, etc)? what was a reason? (i think i read a post about something like permission or source code related, but can't find it anymore)
thanks

Well, Jelly Bean kernel source isn't out yet, which prevents some mods and custom kernels.
Also, I think that some of the other tweaks just haven't been ported to Jelly Bean yet.
It will happen in time...
Final kernel isn't out yet or mybe - they haven't had a final base yet ait tight its going to be back soon

I'm looking to root/rom my OneX shortly. I normally try out loads of different roms and settle on the one I have installed when I get bored of faffing around anymore, but this time I would like to just go for the one/two that i'm after.
Would like the most stable rom that closely resembles the Nexus 4 / JB 4.2. Are the roms there yet? or are they still missing features or buggy?
Which rom would best match what im after?

I guess you could flash ARHD and then use ROM Cleaner to get rid of Sense.
Check the threads out

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589949 (ROM Cleaner)

This is what you want
ROM cleaner does not get rid of sense at all. Sense is not only launcher or lockscreen, it's the whole framework. To remove it you need to flash AOSP ROM.
Also, OP wanted Android 4.2.
The closest to absolutely stock Android you'll get is pabx's AOSP ROM. It is like it's pulled straight from n4 with no extra mods or tweaks.

If you want tweaks go for ICJ above.

Just thought I'd let you guys know I went ICJ on a whim, at install time. Thoroughly pleased. Great recommendation guys. Really appreciate it.

Tell everyone which Rom you're running and what you do or don't like about it. I figured the thread would be nice for people looking for roms to try and hear personal experiences with them instead of just a description.
I tried pacman last night but screwed something up (there is an insane amount of options) and went back to stock for now. I know how to change what I did no so I'll probably reflash later. Happy flashing!!
Nothing yet, but definitely Venom/Viper when available for Verizon One. I had the HTC One for a bit and was able to try many. This one just plain out rocks. You can see a thread about it just a few down from this. Watch the video about it as well. So many mods, tweaks etc and just plain out runs...
I'm currently running v2 of hawknest ' EclipticONE. It is based off the stock rom so it runs 4.2.2 and sense 5 with tweaks. It is *inverted sense*. I love it there because of the dark colors of everything. It is very stable with only slight issues so far with the play store but nothing that can't be fixed!

Currently running CM10.2 and I like it a lot. I've used AOSP on my previous 3 smartphones. Everything is working great for me except I cannot get a GPS lock whatsoever. The fix according to some forum posts would be to flash a Sense ROM to get a lock and reflash CM. I'm going to flash GPE to play around and see how that is.
running CM10.2 until Liquid can gett calls working on that rom. I much prefer liquid (a couple more tweaks) but I need my phone to be a phone

I really like some of the features from Paranoid, and this is the closest to getting them. Plus I have a soft spot for the mix type of Roms, having a similar one on my HP Touchpad.
I just installed and am setting up VanirAOSP. So far, so good. I tried CM 10.2 yesterday but it was a little flaky. I'm looking forward to trying Venom.
Also running EclipticONE. Love the inverted sense and I really wanted to keep the stock camera since I'm crazy about the zoe feature. Using Apex Launcher anyway so blinkfeed is not an issue for me. The ROM has been zippy and bug free.
VanirAOSP because it has PIE, Halo, and IR blaster support. I absolutely love this ROM. Plus, Sonic is the dev behind it and he is quite awesome!

I flashed that last night and titanium didn't want to restore my apps for some reason. I'll flash it again when I have more time to mess with it. Great posts people!!
I'm running BoneStock v1.1 by andybones. Cuz I'm cool like that. I tend to flash Roms like a madman but BoneStock is my daily driver.

You have to change the backup folder first in Settings > General > Preferences to /storage/sdcard0/TitaniumBackup.

Hmm. They restored fine on pacman last night. Any idea why it would restore on pacman and not vanir?

No clue. Maybe because Vanir is built off AOSP while PAC is built off CM? That's a stretch though.
I'm running Vanir at the moment. Very simple, great customization options and everything works well without any major hitches.
Looking forward to trying out Carbon soon; loved the ROM on my DNA and would love to see how it fares on the One.

Titanium backed up fine on stock ROM, and Bonestock, but also would not backup on Vanir's ROM for me either.

Vanir is going to be different than stock ROM and Bonestock in regards to TiBu. Vanir is on 4.3 AND it is built off AOSP. You need to change the backup folder for those ROMs otherwise it will not work. I just cant remember if changing the backup folder is because of 4.3 or because its built off AOSP. Its one of those (or both).
As I posted in the CM10 thread:
FYI - I learned that there's an issue with restoring apps with Titanium Backup and Android 4.3. You have to change your backup location to: /storage/emulated/legacy/TitaniumBackup from /storage/emulated/0/TitaniumBackup otherwise your restore will get stuck at 0%.

/storage/sdcard0/titaniumbackup works too.
