[Q] [Viper ROM] Software update problem - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, guys. I'm still quite a noob about rooting and stuff, so I'm not sure is it problem in me or there is something really wrong I have ViperDHD v2.0.0 rom and it has updates.
How to update software? In notification bar jumps message that i can download and install it but when I wanna install it my phone goes to recovery mode and there is a message that installation of update is aborted. Then I find it (install zip...) on SD Card in CWM, and there is again the same issue.
The second problem is with my messages. Font size is getting bigger and bigger all the time and when I minimize size (sliding two fingers to each other, minimum size is bigger than minimum size before last increment ?! Wtf 0.o

go to 4ext.net and download 4ext recovery updater. Install it and change your recovery. it will work

To fix messages issue you have to update your rom to ver 2.1.2 and for rom update, update your recovery to 4ext recovery. Install that apk in your phone run it and it will ask for update or install 4ext recovery select it and it will replace CWM with 4EXT then do a rom update

I have another dumb question
If I install 4EXT now (on my phone will only exist 4EXT, CWM won't?) and will also installed rom be deleted?

It wont make any harm to your rom or anything else, it will just replace ur recovery from CWM to 4EXT

Ty so much! Just to inform you, installation of 4EXT and updateing rom went successfully!

So of course here is another problem. Now, my version is 2.1.0 but there exist OTA (does it mean i can update it not going in recovery mode and stuff) 2.1.1 and when I download it and wanna install it with same procedure it install again the 2.1.0 version. Why?
But the version 2.1.2 is full rom. How to install that? I guess i don't need to do a 2.1.1 update cause 2.1.2 is full rom and it has inside it? To install 2.1.2 is the procedure to copy .zip to SD card and install it in recovery mode by pressing the install zip from SD card? But then it's completely new rom? Do I have to again install all applications, check my setting and all that OR not?
Sry for being the pain in the ass with this noobishment but I really wanna do that and I don't have enough knowledge! If anyone has nerves to reply I would really appreciate it!!!

Yeah as hdorius said install without wipe but i will recommend you to do a clean install by wiping everythng except sd card ofcourse you will be more satisfied and chances of errors would be less

now i have a problem Can you help me with Hotspot Shield VPN, after connecting its not showing me thumbnails of videos on any web as I have shown in screenshot. I tried with stock browser and dolphin browser both but didn't work. It was working fine in ViperDHD v1.2.3 but not working in v2.1.3

I'm on 2.1.3. Many thanks guys!

Install CWM 3 from here and then flash the appropriate gingerbread Gapps from here (choose the latest gapps-gb-DATE-signed.zip).
Please take care to read all the installation instructions for new ROM's before proceeding as you may otherwise end up with an expensive brick

I have got Clockwork Recovery running and can flash any image onto the device and can get other gapps to install for 6.1.13 but on CM7 it does not install the gapps for some reason. Any ideas ?

And you are definitely using the gingerbread gapps? and you have cwm 3.x installed?
100% gingerbread gapps however I am not using cwm 3 but would that matter seen as though CM7 installs and runs perfectly fine ?

Yes, cwm 2.x cannot mount ext4 files systems, which gingerbread uses for /system so cwm 2.x cannot install the gapps although it will install the rom fine. If you want to flash the gapps you are going to have to bite the bullet and install CWM 3.x
I've been trying to install CWM 3 but however I keep getting "Remote:Not allowed" in fastboot. I have S-OFF but dont understand why this is happening
Thanks for your help much appreciated. Didnt realise that I actually need CWM 3x to get it to work however managed to get it installed. I was getting the "Remote:Not allowed" error because I did not have Engineering HBOOT.

It's probably because you didn't wipe. (i call it 'skidding')
Get full-wipe-1.3 zip file & put that on your sd card too.
Run this from recovery before a new rom.
wait what? im tring to find out how to flash a theme?

What do you mean by 'flash a new theme'?
To my knowledge, a 'theme' is just an appearance (layout, wallpaper, icons etc), which doesn't require flashing.
If you're just talking about flashing different roms (that might have a different look from one to the next), then yes, it is advisable that you wipe first.
i mean how do i put this on the phone? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951768

I see, learn something new everyday.
Appears more to it than actually flashing a rom; a lot to get right, but the instructions seem clear enough.
But, if you're having problems, i'd always advise wiping & start again.

You're flashing roms so i assume you've got s-off etc, & you're using a 2.2.1 (1.72) sense based rom for this theme (+ all the other things you need to do, like uninstalling launcher pro etc)
What i'd do is...
put full-wipe-1.3, the rom (+ gapps if needed) & the theme on your sd card
reboot into recovery via rom manager
Install zip file via sd card
full wipe 1.3
then
the rom
then
gapps (if needed)
then
reboot...
then do all the things needed to allow the theme to work properly
& finally, reboot into recovery via rom manager again
install the theme (zip file from sd card)
reboot...
thanks alot fr the help but i think ill leave it as it is lol :/ ty nyway though
After flashing a rom normally, just reboot, go to clockworkmod again and flash the theme from SD. Just go to install zip from SD. No biggie

problem
Hi, I'm new and also noob, so sorry
I have same or similar problem...
I made update from A2.2 to A2.3.3 official ROM from HTC for HTC Desire and than I found custom ROM with Sense 3.0 - Cool Sensation v7.
I made S-Off and I have HBOOT 6.93.1002 now. Tried to instal custom ROM, everything installed good, but after rebooting system is still in boot-loop and a can not instal boot-fix because I still get error regarding some error about edify...
Some like this:
"amend script(update-script) is no longer supported
amend scripting was depreceated by google and android 1.5
it was neccacery to remove it when upgrading to clockwork mod 3.0 gingerbread based recovery.
please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted."
Can someone help me? Thx.
Clockworkmod uses a new script since version three. Sometimes this script is newer than the rom's one. So you get this error. You have to flash another recovery which uses the older script (older cwm release, 4ext, amonra_ra or rmd). I recommend to do this via fastboot.
MatDrOiD I assume your reply is for me... thx for reply
After no possibilities to instal boot-fix I made this (your reply I read after that):
1. downgrade to RUU froyo 2.2
2. ROOT with unreworked
3. made 1GB ext3 partiotion
4. tried install LeeDrOiD via Rom manager
...and it works!
Now i'm try installing again Cool sensation but v8
- installed fine but with boot-loop in the end
- also instaled boot-fix but phone is still in boot-loop
I should work on it harder
Make sure you followed installation instructions for leedroid correctly.
TouchPaled from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
No, No... leedroid installed fine and works
I tried install cool sensation v8. And yes I know, it's not stable and final version
I meant the instructions for cool sensation. My bad!
SwiftKeyed from Oxygen with Transparent XDA App
I installed ROM and than boot-fix because of boot-loop (I see just boot logo ANDROID from cool sense v8 in loop) and than weatherpack. Phone was still in boot-loop, so I tried again install boot-fix. It still wasn't helpful. May be is error somewhere between chair and keyboard btw. for instalation I used Rom manager and before installation made full wipe dalvik and ext3

[Q] Help! Stuck on white HTC screen after installing root!

So I installed CWM recovery, and installed the rmk root setup zip. Before I installed it, I wiped the cache but not the Dalvik cache. When I rebooted, it hung on the white HTC screen. I went back into recovery and wiped dalvik cache, cache and even data and settings, then installed the zip again and it still hangs. can somebody help me? Honestly at this point I just want to be able to use my phone again.
Thanks in advance
Did you install the root zip that included the froyo stock kernel? I made the same mistake. Just have to adb a compatible 2.3 kernel into your sdcard and flash it.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
i'm pretty sure this is the zip i used. if thats what you're talking about, then how do I fix it?
You cant use that .zip because it uses the Froyo kernal which is incompatible. You have to push jcase's GB kernal to your sd card then flash that.
I'm sorry for the stupid question, and thank you so much for your help, but where can i find that? and what commands do I use to push the kernel to the phone?
Have no fear as long as you can get into CWM then you are still good.
How long does it hang, sometimes it takes a few minutes for that HTC screen to go away, especially if you wiped data. you might want to wait, a little bit.
You can always download a stock rom(jcase plainjane rom), get into CWM, and then mount your USB to be able to install from your computer, and then flash the new rom.
Did you make a backup before you flashed the update, you can always recover.

If you can get into CWM, look for Mounts/Storage and mount your USB so you can access your Phones SD card from your computer, then transfer the file from your computer to your phone.
or use adb if you are familiar with that.
you did get S-Off first right?
yes i have s-off, no i did not make a recovery (i wasnt aware i could do that before i rooted but i have come to terms with the fact that I lost a bunch of data).
okay, so i put the file on my sd card and... what? is it a zip file? where can i find it?
just so i understand, once I get this rooted kernel, i will be rooted and i will be able to install the cwm app and go from there?
and i don't necessarily want the stock rooted... i guess i could go from there but for right now could i download a 2.3 kernel with a different rom? are kernels bundled with roms or do i need to install them separately?
sorry, i'm a new user so i keep having to wait 5 minutes...
Kernels, can be rom specific or bundled but currently for the dinc2 there arent a lot so make sure it doesnt say it belongs to a specific rom otherwise it might not work.
Jcase has a stock kernel and rom he put up a while back for gingerbread.
They will be a .zip file and all you have to do is using recovery choose zip file and run it, since you already deleted everything.
When you install a rom, it will add su and busybox, and root your phone. You need your phone rooted to be able to do anything, after S-off.
if you have recovery installed then you have CWM and really what you want is Rom Manager to do backups.

tiamat kernel is an AOSP kernel. for CM7/MIUI/OM(F)GB
you'll get bootloops if you flash it on a sense rom.
so should i flash that, then flash something like MIUI? can i do that? and do i have to wipe data/cache/dalvik before the kernel AND before i install MIUI?
thanks

anyways i want to upgrade to jellybean im sick of waiting like everyone else.
cm10 seems like a good rom , ive read a lot on this forum, could some one tell me what the first step is do i flash cwm first on the rogers stock or do i have to put ATT stock on it
thanks

Hi!
Welcome to the site! You'll really love the community here!
Here are some simple instructions I found for you: http://www.androidauthority.com/gal...elly-bean-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-preview-104742/
Just make sure you download the latest CWM from here (6.0.1.2 currently): http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-d2att.img
And flash it to your device.
Then follow those steps, wipe/format data partition, as it says there. CAREFUL make sure you download the latest CyanogenMod version from here too, the top one on the list is always newest, latest version came out today actually: http://get.cm/?device=d2att
Let me know how it goes and if you're enjoying it! Tried leaked version of JB on my S3 with Telus in Canada and didn't like the bugs in there...so let me know if the 'CM Finishing Touch' on there is really better than stock!
Michael

should i take off auto reboot then take out battery... i remember doing this when i rooted the phone . i think...
oh and for rom manager i cannot find my phone on the list , there isn't any galaxy s3 on it weird?

If you get the SGS3 All-in-one toolkit from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 , you can install CWM from it just make sure you have drivers installed, it can help you with that if you don't have them, and enable USB Debugging.
If that doesn't work, which I think it should, try to use this link a bit. Download the version they have it should be pretty recent.

Oh so now you have CWM? Well as long as you have it, you'll only need it once or twice to erase all data, then install CM and GApps.
Ill try it with the cwm from the superuser one but I remember doing that it said error 9 or something

Quick question, I flashed CWM recovery using the terminal, and I see it when I boot into recovery, but when I go to ROM Manager to flash CM10, it says to flash CWM Recovery, and won't let me access the list. I would've flashed CWM from ROM Manager, but the S3 wasn't on the list of devices. Is there anyway to get around this?

Hi there!
Basically you must first but the CWM ZIP file on your internal sdcard then boot into CWM, from there go to install zip file or something like that, then select from SD Card, find the zip, you're done!
Don't forget to do a factory reset through CWM before the CM10 update and maybe after too.
Let me how it goes,
Michael
Never liked CWM, I personally love TWRP as a recovery. Go to the app store and download GooManager.

But don't I already have CWM? Or is CWM and CWM Recovery two different things? Where would I get the CWM .zip for my rogers phone? I backed up my phone from recovery mode, does that mean I backed up my current ROM (stock rooted ROM)? And I backed up a few apps using Titanium Backup, if I use factory reset, would all my backups get erased? Thanks for your help!

Hi,
CWM = CWM Recovery; same thing just shorter .
The ZIP file for your rogers phone can be found here: http://get.cm/?device=d2att
Click the one at the top of the list as it is the newest.
Don't worry about the ROM because worst case scenario if you want to downgrade to stock, you can re-download it online and re-root.
For the apps, it depends where your backups are, usually, in TitBak, the backups are stored in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup which will be safe as formatting to factory settings and data partition in CWM doesn't format the internal or external SD Card. But I am not responsable if it does so be careful!
Michael
Also, I just got a notification to update SuperUser, which takes me to the Playstore, but on I remember seeing not to update SuperUser on the thread where I was told how to root my phone. So do I update it or not?

You can update it, I don't see what could go wrong because an update will only help fix things if there were bugs you had.
Okay, thanks! I'm going to use this <http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587607> guide to flash the cm ROM. But say afterwords, I want to unroot and remove the 'Modified' status of my phone, and return back to the stock ROM like nothing happened, and remove the flash counter. How would I do that?

That would be with Odin you would redownload the Stock ROM for Rogers and then flash it. To reset counter, you can download the app TriangleAway for free from the Play Store and with root, it resets the counter. Then you can unroot.
