Can you flash a MA5 rom Running on MA7 Firmware? Will H2O MA5 rom work on a rooted MA7 phone ?
How did you root your MA7 firmware....im stuck

I used Billard's back-to-stock LJC zip, installed rwilco's MA7 update zip using stock recovery, rooted using Chainfire's auto-root, installed TWRP with Goomanager, flashed deodexed MA7 and everything works! VERY smooth and fast. I copied this from another user.
Several ways. What I did was use odin to flash twrp. Tgen used twrp to flash a root zip.
The only glitch I ran into that I don't see explained anywhere was one step along the way to actually flash twrp successfully. In odin you click PDA and select the openrecovery*.tar and it flashes fine but then reboots into the regular OS. When you reboot into recovery it's still the stock recovery.
I had to un-check the auto-reboot checkbox in odin and flash twrp again, then pull the battery, then get all three voldown-home-power buttons pressed and while holding them use your foot or your chin or your girlfriend or something to put the battery back in. Then it boots into twrp and you never have a problem after that. It's a one-time problem.
Once I had twrp I used that to flash a root.zip which was just a recovery flashable packaging of supersu. After that everything else you can get from market. Busybox titanium etc.
There are other instructions that go the other way where you use odin to flash a root.zip and then just use goo manager to install twrp.
Cf auto root still works on ma7 too, which is just a little more automated way to do the same things I just described.

Well I don't know about MA5 ROM on MA7 but I just flashed Whomp 2.6 which is LJC on MA7 and no issues to report so far. Didn't do anything special just flash as normal.

I'm totally boggled here, I've never had problems like this. I've rooted my T-999, no problems there, but when I install CWM, either the non-touch or touch versions, it doesn't boot into that recovery. When you recovery boot, either manual or through ROM Manager, it just boots to the stock recovery. I've tried re-installing through ROM Manager and through Odin, to no avail. I'm pulling my hair out...help!
Just use the the root 66 method and then use goomanager to install twrp recovery. Did this process for my brothers S III last night over the phone.
I had the same problem before. Tried multiple ways but the cwm recovery will not stick, even though it appears working in Odin. Only way I got cwm recovery to install is by going back to an earlier version os.
You need to find an earlier version of factory stock jelly bean or better yet ics and flash it with Odin. Make sure it's a factory image. After that just root and install cwm recovery with Galaxy s3 toolkit. Then just install whatever rom you like.

Ok, trying out these methods and will report back. Thanks.

Why do all that when you can flash the latest through ODIN; and get the correct partition tables setup, and that has root, and then install the recovery via an app? Seems more logical to me.

I was not aware you can install the recovery through an app. I'm not familiar with the process so maybe you can talk the op through it.
When I had my problem with the cwm recovery not sticking from Odin, it was when the jelly bean update was just release for T-Mobile. Just letting the op know that I had the same problem and how I got it working.

Okay I thought I was missing something. Ya the new update surprised me as well last night with ODIN not working to flash a recovery. It's available in CWM app ROM manager I prefer TWRP though which is available in GooManager via menu>Install OpenRecoveryScript>yes> so long as it says "2.4.1.0" and "D2TMO" then yes and boot recovery to install from there.
I followed mt3g's advice and did the root66 method and then installed via ROM Manager and I had success. Flashing a new ROM now. Thanks!
Cool bro.
My phone won't charge due to battery to cold prompt and my back lite buttons stopped working so I need tar file to restore ma7 to flash counter reset.zip from billard412 to go to sprint. I tried to Odin back but I brain farted and knowing ma7 won't work that way.

You are correct, download that file to your external SDcard. If you want to keep root, make sure both files are on the card.
Reboot to custom recovery, do a full wipe and install the ma&stock-w-count-reset.zip.
If you want to keep root, before rebooting from recovery, flash the root.zip file also.
Your phone will reboot into a special TRWP screen briefly.
I've used that process twice and it works great.

Funny how stuff works. I tried to Odin flash twrp Cuz the only file I could flash in Odin was an ma5 restore I had which put me on ma5 restore stock build but ljc broadband. And everything after would fail or suspend me in download via odin So I read in another post somewhere flash twrp in Odin and then flash billard412 ma7 restore. Problem was I had to do quick batt pull right after Odin rebooted phone after flashing twrp, it wouldn't take. But yes, ma7 worked great and I get new phone tomorrow via sprint. Did 5 mins after I posted thread. Wish I saw 1st, haha

Have you tried to flash a custom recovery using Odin for PC? If you can then you should try to install Billards back to stock counter reset mc2 ROM. You may have to reroot and I recommend CF Auto Root. Heres zip file for Odin. A flashable tar file to use in Odin
When running Odin make sure ONLY thing checked is Auto reboot. You are in download mode on phone...(vol down-home-then power..holding all three till it boots into download mode). Make sure com port is lit on Odin.Click on PDA and locate the cwm file and click on it. Should put it into the PDA slot, hit start. If it fails change usb input slots with cable, hit reset and try again. Make sure you have the Billard 412 Rom on external/internal before doing tthis. Once the recovery is flashed try to install the Rom.
Let me know how it goes and by the way is been awhile since Ive seen you from the OG EVO days!

I ended up flashing Philz recovery thru odin then i was able to fix my phone. Thanks for the help.

I was able to install custom recovery the first time i rooted my new 4.1.2 device, now after trying dn3 rom and reflashing between different FACTORY firmware flashes from 4.1.1 back to 4.1.2 several times i am unable to install any custom recovery through odin. Also tried using goo manager method for twrp.
Triangle away does not work for me.
I used stock recovery wipe /delete /wipe cache after every single time, with no luck to fix. Every time I try installing cwm or twrp(goo manager) it reboots as if everything is fine but still goes back to stock recovery. My binary count is around 12 now.
Am i doing something wrong?
This is the first time i encountered this. I have a t-mobile t889.
thanks
Do you get error message using odin, are you using the latest odin

Slow down.
Flashing FACTORY Firmwares UN-roots your device.
So you'll need to re-root it. The easier method, since youre using Odin, is to grab one of the Root Injected Firmwares found in the Developmet thread (its pinned. Find Mr.Robinsons Thread)
Once its successful you can flash the recovery and clear your counts.

Trying to update my old E4GT to KitKat (CM11) for use as an MP3 player. I believe it was on OI23 before. I tried EL26 CWM, Agat, and finally attempted installing Philz Touch before it gave up this screen. Kies cannot connect to it, even after making sure proper drivers are installed and doing the connection troubleshooter.
Am I screwed? Did I encounter the infamous "superbrick"?

You should still be able to flash stock firmware via Odin in that state. Connect it and flash, provided that the battery is charged.

Ok I've gotten ODIN to recognize it again. Now how can I get to CM11? My biggest problem is finding a recovery that will work to flash it.
Here is a stock rooted ROM for d710 with CWM included in it, flash it via Odin and you'll be restored, rooted and have CWM.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung%20Galaxy%20S2%20%28Sprint%29%20%28SPH-D710%29/Stock%20ROMs/GB/EL29/No%20Data%20Restore/Rooted
Then you'll need to flash an ICS modem or you won't be able to use Kit Kat custom ROMS(CM11), it is a .zip to be flashed in recovery the way a ROM is. Scroll to the bottom of the list and grab the last one. Flash it in recovery.
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p... Galaxy S2 (Sprint) (SPH-D710)/Modems/ICS/ZIP
Then you'll need to find a 4.3 custom ROM to flash to update the devices partition structure before flashing a 4.4+(CM11) ROM. The trick is going to be finding 4.3 and 4.4 ROMs, they are old ROMs and may not be available for download anymore. I'm trying to get the CWM that I used uploaded so you can use it, it flashed all of my 4.4 - 4.4.4 ROMs. I flashed everything with it. It's CWM 5.0.2.7 for sph-d710.

You flashed the file I linked? It is supposed to have CWM packaged with it. Go to rwilco12's android repository, at the top of the page you'll see a downloads tab. Click it then select the options on that menu until you get to Galaxy S2>Sprint SPH-D710>kernels and you'll find the Odin flashable recoveries for E4GT.

I had an AGAT GB27 v1.3 from rwilco that I flashed to get a custom recovery, just flashed the FL24 modem with it. So I have EL29 software with FL24 modem. Ready to flash something newer now.
EDIT: And now it doesn't boot.

To get to Kit Kat, you've got to flash a 4.3 ROM then flash a 4.4 ROM. I'm not sure where you'll find one or if their are any available anymore.
There is CWM 5 or CWM 6 at rwilcos repository, its probably better than Agats

I have a CWM 5.0.2.7 in zip that I'm trying to upload to my Android File Host for you but its giving me issues uploading. I'll find a place to put it so you can get it, then flash it in Agat recovery.
Flash Agat recovery again, then flash the CWM I give you in Agat, then go back to main menu and find the "reboot recovery" option somewhere, I can't remember where its at in Agat, reboot recovery will boot you into the new recovery, do not boot to system then boot to recovery, it will revert to Agat and you'll have to flash CWM again and boot to it correctly to keep it.
