Pop up ads everywhere, please help - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Pretty shocked, all of a sudden a million ads on most websites I go to.
I have been using adaway, and before that used to use adfree, but found adaway did a better job. Anyways, it was working bulletproof perfect until this weekend. Going to Chicago Tribune news site, and some tech forums, and ads were back. Top of screen banner, bottom of screen, floating ads. Ugh
I try to update adaway today, it said something strange, never seen before, something about my APN settings in mobile network. "APN Proxy Set", won't enable adaway fully. WTF is that ?

Try the airpush detector app from the play store. More than likely an app you download is causing it. Hope this helps

Thanks, tried that, said no bad ads installed.

I have paid for Roam Control for a past phone. I'm trying to install it now and when I hit install and it just spins and won't install.
Edit- I just restarted my phone and it installed....
Not seeing nova 2 either which as stated seems very odd.

Yeah quite a few apps are listed as incompatible. But if you get the apk and install manually they work fine.
EDIT: This is where downloading apk's from somewhere else and loading into the phone manually comes in handy if you trust the source.
U might want to edit your post linking or anything about warez is an infraction on xda believe me I got one

Spyware/ malware

I installed adfree. To my phone ...
Then hours later 4 new apps showed up.
There not in play store so I can uninstall them... there not in settings app to uninstall
And I even went as far as to look in root explorer... nothing there either. On the net it says there real apps but I DID NOT PUT THEM THERE! I don't know if adblock is the root cause or what to do I really don't want to do a fresh install.. but it looks like I may have to.... here a pic the apps at the top just appeared ... lookout detected nothing....
Edit: its hard to see but there all like catch a chearter... GPS a cheater... extra.

Adfree altered my host file.... I could try titanium but would that pull out the root changes and unhost the changes in the file?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Wipe Data, Format SD Card, Reflash Rom, do not reinstall apps from Titanium Bakcup, do fresh installs.
The only way to be sure that the malware/spyware is gone.
I have been running adfree for months now and this has not happened to me. There is no way you got this from adfree. You either got it from web browsing on your phone or there is another application you installed that put them there.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
That is caused by a already installed app. Uninstall the app before you started to get these ads and they will not show again

For a solid YouTube downloader, try Tubemate. You can't get it from the Play Store but you can get it in the Amazon Market or the app's website I believe. No adds or spam, the only problem is it can only download videos for which there are mobile versions. About one in 10 videos doesn't have a mobile version, in my experience.

Ad-free android doesn't work after JB update?

I installed the new root66 JB and it seems that ad-free android doesn't actually block ads anymore. It says my host file is up to date, and and I restarted but I still get ads in places that I didn't get before the update. Xda, Pandora, ect. Is anyone else having this problem?

I just had to go and find Ad Free again and install it. Cannot find it on google anymore, had to use dogpile. This app just disappeared from my tablet, I think google playstore had something to do with that. Now that it is reinstalled and working, is there anyway to protect this app from google trying to purge it again? Like with Titanium Backup or something? Thanks.
Google didn't purge it. Well they did, but only from their store.

Why not use what everyone else uses to remove ads, here is the link for "Adaway.apk" and it works just as well on JB or
any other versions of roms.
Here is the direct download link: http://www48.zippyshare.com/v/60362249/file.html
The play store no longer supports any add-blocking apps that's why you will not find it there.
Good Luck!

Data has sporadic freezes

It happens a lot on the xda app, and noticing it alot on instagram. I see no data activity for 10 seconds then it will animate and data will load whatever im browsing. Dont use facebook or twitter. Infact I never used instagram till yesterday and its doing same thing as xda, which is what I browse with the most. I thought it was just the xda site but I guess not. My wife hasnt noticed it in hers but i will be trying her phone out now that I know its the phone.
Surprised I havent found other complaing. Maybe I need to swap this thing out

Iam gettting that on xda too. I am using dagr8 rom.

Is there any apps that can run a ping test or something so I dont keep eating up massive amounts of data testing this thing when im having outages
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Try fing
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
*#*#4636#*#* will get you a ping test - choose "Info," then "Device information," which is actually telephone information. You can also get an app "Hidden Menus" from the Market which will save you the effort of keying all that in
*#0*# works to get into the Service Menu to test the rest of the phone out.
I am wondering if it's a modem issue. Any ideas if we have any other modems and can we flash modems from the first Note? I saw dagr8's thread on modems but no Att modems available to download. They are all bad links. I think they were having issues with them. I also saw someone posted a newer modem but it needs to be packaged in a zip.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
I need multi view so I can watch and run ping the same time as browsing. I have to switch over to pinging app when I see no activity and buy the time I switch over its pinging away. It stops pinging when I am switched over on another app

Ad Blockers removed

Now that ad blockers have been removed from Play, are there any good alternatives?
UPDATE: I have found an alternative for AdFree Android. I am now using AdAway thanks to F-Droid and I have found I like it much better. Thank you to all who assisted in giving answers.
Uh.. You can still use adblockers legally you just have to download them from the devs website instead of the play store.

Yep...a quick search now lands the same info over and over. It also lands a lot of speculation in which direction google is heading.
Just to clarify, I will state that I am not necessarily against ads as it helps independent developers. If I like the app enough i will support the developer if they will allow for a purchase that is ad free. I have purchased around 20 or so apps (some I no longer use) so I have no qualms doing this. However, I have experienced some apps in which the ads are overly instrusive and actually hinder some of the functions of the app temporarily due to being in the way. These "few" are the reason I have resorted to ad blockers.
For now I have installed F-Droid and I am using AdAway and I like it a lot. I am now content.
I've been using AdAway too but the last app update (March 7th I believe) actually allows ads. Are you having this problem as well?

I have had no such issue. Still blocking ads. In fact AdAway is working even better than AdFree Android did. There were a couple of apps that I still got ads in before and now they are even ad free.
Are ads coming through all of your apps that support ads, or just some of them? If all ad supported software is showing ads then you need to update your hosts file via AdAway.

I updated the hosts file beginning of March and then started getting ads. Before that I was getting none. Today they updated the hosts files again and ads are once again gone. yay!
