[Q] Htc desire hd radio and ril confirmation - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hy geeks!
I know I know... this post is suitable for htc desire hd radio thread post...
however I can' t post there yet because I' ve less than 10 posts.
I have a rooted and s-off htc desire hd with IceColdSandwitch 8.8 AOKP rom (based on android 4.0.3)
I' ve read a lot of posts about radio and ril but I still have some doubts.
I' ve installed and run GetRIL app from market to see if ril version matches radio drivers version, here results:
-------------------------
RIL -> 2.2.0018G
Baseband (Actual radio) -> 12.56.60.25U_26.10.04.03_M
Suggested radio -> 12.65.60.29P_26.14.04.28_M
RiL and baseband don' t match
-------------------------
I haven' t a sense based rom and so I can' t flash rils (is it correct?)
Thant' s why the button 'Download and install ril' in GetRIL app is unclickable (grey colour) ?
I downloaded from htc desire hd radio thread 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M radio file,
I smoothly flashed it through fastboot on Ubuntu 12.10.
The phone works correctly and it seems better with this new radio.
Then I re-run GetRIL app and the result is:
-------------------------
RIL -> 2.2.0018G
Baseband (Actual radio) -> 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
Suggested radio -> 12.65.60.29P_26.14.04.28_M
RiL and baseband don' t match
-------------------------
I have checked under settings->info and the radio actual version is
the same detected by GetRIL (12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M)
So why after flash does 'U' appear at the end of baseband version?
Since GetRIL still stay that radio and ril don' t match I should download
12.65.60.29P_26.14.04.28_M and flash it?
What do these fu___ng letters ('U' and 'P') mean?

I have my own doubts about flashing radios and rils but from what I read in your thread...it seems to me that you are trying to flash a ril for that cm9 rom your using and its not working correct ? I came from a LG optimus one, where it was v10 for froyo and v20 for gb and above if you wanted better signal. That was called basebands and I had to use a program called lgdmp tool to switch basebands but it was a one time occurrence...I wish I could help but maybe a more advanced user for this device will be able to shine some light for us...
Ps...so you say your getting better signal with that 65 radio, correct ?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium

As long as the phone works well, don't worry about GetRIL. You should only flash RILs on GB/Froyo ROMs.

Yes, wifi signal is far better than before and battery seems to last longer
I noticed also a little improvement with 3g/2g

Ok, I won' t touch the ril!
Someone says that cooked roms don' t use RIL. Is it true?
If so is it a good idea to flash latest radio driver ? ( July 2012: Radio 12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M - AT&T Inspire 4G 3.20.502.52 (Latest) )

Do you have a link for the 65 radio .. I can't seem to find the thread on xda premium...all I have to do is rename the downloaded zip to pd98img and flash in hboot? Am I correct?

Here is the official radio thread for desire hd.
I downloaded 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M
Yes you can do so, but I suggest you flashing radio through fastboot because it' s safer.
Install fastboot and adb, in your dhd turn on usb debugging mode in settings -> development
Connect with usb, boot dhd in bootloader (power button + vol down).
Open consolle (with admin privileges) and type 'fastboot devices'.
It must display the dhd' s id.
Then type fastboot flash radio /path/to/radiofile/radio.img
Normal reboot and verify in setting-> info radio version
Before doing that install GetRIL in dhd and run it to see
suggested radio for your ril

Unfortunately I don't have a computer....well I'm using a sense rom right now, from what I heard rils aren't needed for cm9, cm10, etc....

Yes I discovered you' re right, ril just has to be flashed with sense based froyo and gingerbread roms! If you will flash a ril let me know how it works
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app

I don't think I'll ever need to flash a ril... I'm not a huge fan of sense type roms, ironic right ? I only got the i4g because someone sold me one for 80 bucks and the specs were descent. I however do want to flash a radio but not right now, I'm using T-Mobile prepaid so I only get edge/2g..I don't really think switching my radio while using T-Mobile prepaid will do me much justice so I'll just wait til next week when I get on straight talk at&t. I'll finally be getting 4g speeds

Never surrender! After looking for the meaning of last letter in baseband version
I finally discovered it thanks to a Russian android blog
In /system partition there' s a file called build.prop
This file holds a lot (perhaps all?) of variables used by kernel
Each line is in the format variable = value
There' s a variable called ro.ril.hsxpa
Depending on which value you assign to this variable you will
see a different capital letter as the last letter in basaband version number
For exemple if I set it to '2' I will have 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M
If I set it to '3' I will have 12.65.60.29P_26.14.04.28_M
Possible values:
'0' -> UMTS only (NO HSPA)
'1' -> HSDPA (but no HSUPA)
'2' -> HSDPA + HSUPA
There are also other values but nobody seems to know what they do!
I set ro.ril.hsxpa = 3 and GetRil app congratulates saying ril and baseband match!
However I find my htc faster with ro.ril.hsxpa = 2
If you need to edit buid.prop remember you must have root permissions!
The easiest way it' s to use adb
On Linux:
Code:
sudo su
adb pull /system/build.prop /path/in/your/pc
adb shell // Start adb shell
su
remount // Unmount /system partition and remount it with read-write permissions
adb push /path/of/build.prop/in/your/pc /system/build.prop.bak
Now that you have saved a backup copy
you can edit build.prop in your pc and
overwrite it in your phone
Code:
adb push /path/of/build.prop/in/your/pc /system
If you don' t like adb so much I think you can do
everything in your htc with terminal and nano editor
with root permissions

Enjoy!
What`s the difference to this?
RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.2_Radio_12.28e.60.140f _26.04.02.17_M2_release
I think htc changed something in radio part, but I'm not sure about that...
Interesting, we have an extra "R" and "SF" in the name of the ROM. Wonder what those stand for, a carrier perhaps ?
Some one brave needs to flash the radio to a G2.... thas what I am interested in.

Hmm. I'll try this when I get home. Though I wonder what the difference is from the other one.

Just flashed it. Nothing seems to have changed at all. Hmm.
Do you mean that the radio is listed the same in the phone info in settings before and after you flashed?

Yeah it's the same thing as the other 1.72. That's why I'm wondering what changed in this one.
Baseband version
12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
Kernel version
2.6.32.21-g540976a
[email protected] #1
Wed Dec 1 13:30:31 CST 2010
Build number
1.72.405.2 CL296256 release-keys
ok for desire z singapore?
Well that's weird. I am still waiting for a better radio..... don't know about you but my signal is horrible at work with my new G2.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I extracted the files and the only two files changed from the other 1.72.405.2 ROM are the system and userdata images - the size is the same (figures, since it's the same partitioning scheme), but the checksums differ.
Has anyone got unyaffs working with these newer images?

unyaffs is not going to work anymore. Newer ROMs are using ext3 and ext4.
Huh... Didn't know that How would I go about extracting it? Or can it be mounted as a loop device?
I have mounted system and userdata as loop devices and used md5deep to make md5sums for all the files. ALL CHECKSUMS ARE IDENTICAL!
The android-info.txt file is a bit changed - the last two lines are reversed.
Also, the radio has a different md5sum, but the size and filename are the same. Also, the date is different (this release's radio was last changed on Dec 20th, as opposed to Dec 2nd for the release ending with M2).
All in all, I really can't see any differences outside of the radio partition. Those with S-OFF and radio issues could try flashing this one from fastboot and letting us know if there is an improvement.
Hi think this must have some improvements because i'm using the first version and i think that have some bugs, like when i set some music like ring tone, it only works at the same day, than returns to the HTC official ring tone. When i'm at an application like settings if the phone goes into sleep then when i resume it goes directly to home screen. It appens some times when the phone is not fully charged when I put in the pocket it turns off.
I think this Rom RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.2_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_160660_signed has some problems
I can't download! Has enyone tried?
Try getting it from http://kaiserroms.blogspot.com/ - thank hjlow for it.

[Q] Desire Z A7272 features

hello
I ve found a desire Z A7272 on ebay at a good price.
I wanno if it is a clone ?
What are the difference betwen this model and the other one ?
Is it possible to flash with a custom ROM ?
My goal is to buy it and then install ICS. I ve never installed customs roms but i have some experience in flashing other stuff.
Is there a stable customs roms, which one and how to install it ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546915 ??)
I ve took a look to other thread but my lack of experience in this area brings me to ask the questions for confirmation because i think that everything is ok.
Thx.
The A7272 is the main model, there is also the A7275 which is the North AMerican version, only difference are the radio bands it operates on.
G2 - Band I (2100) and Band IV (1700/2100)
Desire Z - Band I (2100) and Band VIII (900)
NAM Desire Z (Bell) - Band II (1900) and Band V (850)
Any rom will work on all models (G2's need the DZ hboot for sense3+ roms though)
Here is a good guide for flashing/backing up, etc
-Nipqer
I have the latest andromadus mimicry installed
Running good

Please use your brain when following these postings / guides. Especially make sure that you use a PC10IMG.zip for your device!
The phone will be in Android 2.2.
I don't understand why i have to downgrade ! And i do not even know what 1.XX and 2.XX means.
Sorry for the silly questions, i am a real noob
Up
I have no idea if the phone will work in France or not, I don't know what carriers are in France and which frequencies they operate on. You could surely find one carrier who will support the same frequencies.
The 1.xx and 2.xx refer to the current software version (not android version).
If the phone id on froyo (Android 2.2) it will be a 1.xx build, so you have to follow those instructions (unless you're already on build 1.3x)
You (might) have to downgrade as gfree (which does the actual unlocking) only works on certain exploitable radio and kernel versions. Newer ones are patched against it.

i have just noticed that i have an issue with the sd card !
it is not recognized, i have the message "Sd card blank or has unsupported file system"
The sd works on other phone, i tried 2 other sd same issue
I try to format from the phone, nothing happens
i start thinking i bought a phone that is a clone or something
SD slot could be bad, try and format it in a PC
Also, in case you missed it, the files needed should not be put on sdcard rather on PC. Then either change the path in environmental variables for adb or place the files needed (extracted) in the same folder as adb.exe
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I tried to format in fat32 from my laptop : still does not work
I thought that the sd was mandatory to root and then install a custom rom !
If i read well, adb push su /sdcard/ means it will write something on the sd ?
From now i did
adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp/
> adb push gfree /data/local/tmp/
> adb push busybox /data/local/tmp/
> adb push hboot-eng.img /data/local/tmp/
> adb push root_psn /data/local/tmp/
but adb push su /sdcard/ does not work
( adb devices can be launched from everywhere but adb push ... msut be launched from c:\platform-tools)
Any ideas to know if my sd sslot is broken or not active or something ?

man you cant upgrade radio with cwm..
follow this link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018511use
and yeah might first universal method wont work so you need to use second one.
steps:
download latest radio ruu from post
download bl-tool from post
then use bl-tool to lock your bootloader and set supervision
then make goldcard
extract latest ruu on computer and see steps to copy rom.zip from temp(see advanced method)
rename zip to PG76IMG
put on sdcard and boot to hboot menu(remove battery and hold power button plus volume down)
then your phone will detect ruu and tell flash it self.
then you will see firsst hboot and radio will upgraded and when you see recovery screen again pull out battery.(keep in mind this step or you have to unlocked your bootloader again and root again and also flash recovery again because ruu will unrooted your phone)
this is only method because s-on only allowed to flash radio when your upgrading it with ruu, nothing else.
for goldcard:
you can find goldcard zip in mentioned post.
then download it and open it with administrator, put your sdcard in card reader and format it.
now put sdcard in phone and keep usb debugging on.
now use mmc0 or mmc1 which option works for you.(only one will work)
then copy CID to website mentioned in that tool download goldcard.img and patch your goldcard.
now your sdcard is goldcard.
put PG76IMG.zip on it and boot to hboot menu.else phone will do it.
keep in mind in flashing ruu first it ll ask and use volume button to yes or no. and then first ruu will flash radio and hboot then it ll show recovery screen again.there you can see hboot and radio is upgraded..now you can pull out battery if you dont wana loose your data, root, recovery.
CAUTION: do it your own risk

[Q] HTC One X no signal problem/can't upgrade Hboot

Dear all,
I really need some serious help here. I have a HTC One X (International version) purchased from the UK and I am presently in India. The phone is rooted and here are the vital stats:
Hboot: 1.12
CID: HTC_001
Android: 4.0.4
HTC Sense: 4.1
Software: Renovate
HTC SDk API: 4.23
HTC Extension version: HTCExtension_403_1_GA_20
Kernel version: [email protected] #33 SMP PREEMPT
Radio/Baseband: 2.1204.135.20
Build: 2.17.401.2
So, the issue is that i receive no network...no service. The SIM card is working fine and I tried different cards with the same result. I get a decent signal in areas with a strong signal but receive NO signal in areas with a relatively weak signal (not all that weak, my iPhone works just fine). I guess it must be something to do with radio/baseband. I tried to flash some other radios (for India) but nothing helps. Some one advised to use a stable ROM with a newer baseband but for doing so, I need to upgrade my hboot, which refuses to move from the current 1.12 (to 1.39 as advised by mike of ADR in his thread). FYI, when I flash a new hboot, the cmd prompt remains at 'sending file' for a really long time without any response.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! I am willing to use any ROM to get my phone working properly!
Regards,
Aviram
PS: I've researched and researched before asking this question. My research paid off in a way that I am not a NOOB anymore!
Have you tried to change usb cable?
And, are you sure that your phone is sim lock?

UPDATE:
Managed to update the hboot to 1.39 and installed a new rom ARHD 18 (Jellybean) with a new baseband: 5.1204.162.29 but the network problem still persists. As I said, I receive a signal where the coverage is very strong but get zero signal where the coverage is relatively weak.
The same SIM works in an iPhone 5 and an S3 where as a different operator's SIM that works with the S3 gives me the same problem in my One X.
Go back to full stock,if the problem won't go away you have to 2 options, or a hardware default or you need a new simcard . I had it replaced once and never had any problems anymore

Thanks for your response. Replacing the SIM card doesn't help as I have already tried different SIM cards. I'll try and figure out on how to go back to full stock. I haven't been able to find the correct RUU (isn't that what is needed?) for my device.
Regards.
If the main version is correct in your OP ? Then you need this ruu

Thanks again for your quick response Mr Hofs. How do I check if the main version is correct in my OP (what is an OP?)? My build number reads '3.14.401.31 CL128187 release-keys'; does this confirm that the RUU file that you directed me to should work fine with my phone and take it back to stock?
As you probably know, the factory phone came with ICS where as this RUU looks like a JB one. I am assuming that this is the latest and the greatest official RUU.
Really appreciate your help.
Regards

Update:
Successfully applied the stock RUU as you suggested Mr.Hofs. The problem still persists. I tried using a couple of other SIM cards too, but face the same problem. I get a normal signal in an area with very strong signal coverage.
Edit :
Nice that the ruu worked.
So you are on full stock jellybean now....could be hardware related, but i really should test it with a new simcard from your provider. I dont know about the costs of a simcard. I asked for a new one back in the day and got it for free ....
Ow and with OP i mean Opening Post (the first one you made in this thread )

Yeah thanks to you for pointing me to the correct RUU! As I said, the problem hasn't been solved but I've learnt so much about Android!
I tried at least three SIMs including a different one for my carrier as well as ones for other carriers...same issue So don't really think getting another SIM will help.
Another question. My bootloader now says 'relocked'...and I am back to stock JB now...will the HTC service center entertain me if I go to them? (They sent me away the last time i went there because I was on a custom ROM and an unlocked bootloader...but 'relocked' clearly indicates that it was unlocked in the past!)
Yes and we cant do anything about the relocked bootloader, this is as stock as you can get.

[Q] please help - Upgrading RADIO because no signal

Hi all
My HTC ONE X has a famous problem: stuck in airplane mode, though Wifi and BT do work. I cannot make calls however, and baseband version is uknown. I thought of updating RADIO and I hope/think it will solve something.
I am on S-ON but with custom ROM installed (Lollipop, AICP). Another ROM does not solve the problem.
Which RADIO could I try? I searched all over the internet, with many already asked if RADIO is country dependent but almost no-one replying to that. So: could I try one?
I already downloaded the last one of this site: http: //w ww.soulfly-rulz. de/HTC-One-X/Radio/ without the spaces because I cannot post links until 10 posts. It is mentioned in the Radio thread.
I live in Holland, using Android 5 and have the Tegra 3 CPU. Could I install it or do I have to choose another RADIO?
Thanks

just flash boot.img from rom zip using this command(from pc)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Well, I did of course. Does the boot.img contain the same files as the radio zip? I will try to flash the boot.img again if you think it helps, it is a common problem for the ONE X though, even with stock roms.

i think boot.img does not contain same file as radio zip.
boot.img contains ramdisk files which loads essential files into memory in order run an OS.
Either way it has not helped...
Luckily I found some more things I could try, as loading a RUU or other special boot files.

Hi, I'm facing the same problem... Did you have any success recovering your IMEI?
Nope... im sorry. Seems a hardware problem.
Same here. No way to fix it for IMEI unknown. I don't understand why any dev still hasn't found a fix as this is a Major issue for any htc what S-on
