I clean flashed the 4.2.1 build on my fiancee's phone last week and she has been saying that everyone has mentioned to her an echo/robotic/underwater sound on her calls?
I see loads of threads that have said that the CM10.1 and the AOKP 4.2.1 have this remedied but hers doesn't seem to be any better.
Is there a kernel suggestion like with the All-Star kernel that fixed the call echo?
Is it just me or is there any suggestions? I'm using the S3 so the Hercules is a little foreign to me as far as the ins and outs of these roms.
When I get a little time with her phone I'm going to update to the newest 4.2.2 nightly that AOKP just released.

Try this, this might fix it: go to the Dialer, go on settings,go down and look for Noise Suppression and make sure it's checked, should be right below TTY. Hope that helps! :good::laugh:

Thanks for the tip. I'll have her try that tomorrow when I see her.
Still going to flash 4.2.2 but I'd like to take care of this before I do.
It probably won't work though... I recommend touchwiz roms. Especially embryo 6.3. I have not had call echo at all, and I had it on all aosp roms.

What about echo at the other end of a call? Does the other person hear echo on their side?

Hey fellas. I'm running the new AOKP build by whitehawkx and noticed the last two times I flashed I am told on the other end it sounds like I'm under water. But not everyone is reporting this but I have seen a few. Any ideas what I can do or what causes this? It didn't happen on TDJ ucle2 beta6 rom. So it shouldn't be a hardware issue... And I don't have call echo either. Thanks!

this is a buy with AOKP thats why i am not using it at the moment. whitehawkx said it has something to do with switching to the hercules kernel..it will be fixed after june 11th
PS. if you had read the AOKP thread you would have seen others report this same bug and whitehawkx confirm it
Check with T-Mobile if you have the latest card. If not, ask them for the new one. That may fix the issue.

lol the bugs for AOKP and CM9 always make me laugh they are very selective.. like i had both echo and the underwater call sound on Build 0531 and 0531-2.. like i always say these bugs seem to be there for some and others dont have them. the only build that didnt have echo for me was 0519 but it had other bugs that i made impossible for me to use it as DD
I'm currently running KonstantinKeller's CM9 6/3 nightly and I have the "underwater/faraway" bug. Before that, I used one5mod's AOSP and had the echo bug. Before that, I ran whitehawkx's AOKP build and had super bad echo with the sound on my end cutting out. So, yeah, all of these have issues along the same lines.

yeah from what whitehawkx said its due to the kernel being from a leak..so when official ics drops the audio issues will be fixed
I've been having this problem with all ROMS except for the stock ROM from 4.0.3. My noise is heard distorted to others like a synthesizer (robot) and when I switch off noise suppression they can hear themselves echo. What am I doing wrong? Already tried clearing cache, dalvik cache and fixed permissions to not avail. I love this ROM more than any ROM I've ever used...but people are having difficulties hearing me.
Edit : before flaming I already checked but none of the answers helped me unfortunately.
Edit #2 : Upgrading to #5 and reverting back to stock 4.0.4 kernel and sound changes Jovy added COMPLETELY ELIMINATED the problem.

I think it might only be with roms that are based off of skyrocket roms. Apparently the position of the microphone on the skyrocket is slightly different, causing echo. (Saw this posted somewhere else on the forums.)
You already posted a thread about this issue.. Read my friend take your time and search...

you need to go to your dialer then settings and enable noise suppression!!!!
and if it still have a problem do it again, mute and unmute

I have the same issue. No amount of noise suppression enable/disable or mute/unmute toggling will fix it. I even odined back to stock and it persisted. The fact that Samsung doesn't acknowledge this as a defect is laughable.
Now, I'm just waiting for tmo to process my exchange and send it out.
I love the Samsung hardware, but so far, I am 2 for 2 on phones with hardware issues that were not considered defects. (a vibrant with a wonky GPS, and now a hercules with a piss poor mic design.)

I remember that lack of GPS on the Vibrant, and the lag on the Vibrant 4G cause of less memory and ram. And now the S2 with the mics problems. I havent search on the S3 to see what kind of defect it has yet but I am thinking on getting one and before I do I'm gonna do a lot of research on it
Me again.
I posted a few hours ago about a problem with my SMS and text messages not being sent if they were over 160 characters. After receiving help about that and since I'm trying to hit my 10 post mark, I figured I'd make another thread about the other problem I'm having.
So I'm running LiquidSmooth JellyBean 4.2.1 Beta 2 on my Sprint Galaxy S3 and I love it. The only problem I am having is that my headset, a basic Skull Candy headset with the button to stop/play music, mute/unmute calls and also fast forward and rewind music does not seem to be working. I mean I can hear music through them fine and the mic works fine for calls, but the button no longer works on this custom ROM. It was working fine on 4.1.1 stock.
Anyone else have this issue? Any help would be appreciated. It's not a big deal but it is nice being able to cut off my music without even taking out my phone.
Its most likely because JB 4.2 is still in development and doesn't have all the hardware features of the stock ROM built in yet
Definitely sounds like this is the issue since you said you had no problems on a TW rom

I've decided to give carbon a try and in all honesty I don't see any benefit of it vs jedi/tw roms. Camera has no low light option, and its rather important to me; call audio is just terrible, scratchy. Besides, i like all that Samsung "crap".

Well I tried flashing them all. And to my dismay, there is a BIG problem. I can't download any apps until I clear the play store and download manager. Then I have to download them all manually. Which I would do, but then it doesn't tlet me re download my purchased apps for free... Deal breaker. Which sucks because I prefer their rom features. Don't care for the s pen or Samsung stuff

I love carbon, aokp and paranoid android for asthetics but the leck of solid bluetooth connectivity coupled with my preference for the default samsung keyborad has made me go back to jedi roms. If they manage to iron out the bluetooth issues ill flash those and never look back. but since i use bluetooth ALOT for calls and music, not so much

Different strokes. I like being on the latest version of Android and Wolfson audio is better than anything out there. I have no call issues. I have had 3 Nexus devices b4 this one. I prefer AOSP.
If I want a new theme I have a choice of hundreds and I don't have to flash it. Don't have to flash every little UI mod.

I think there is a modded playstore out there that does not have the issues.

Im looking for a solid dd for my phone but don't have the time to flash ROMs all day. The only builds I've been trying are the official cyanogenmod builds.. and there awesome except the call quality on the opposite end is unusable in the real world. I heard aokp is better and we now have slim and pac. I have tried the cerux kernel along with cm10.1 but the call quality wasn't any better.. what you guys think?

how do you define best? your best dd for your phone might not be best for me. Its really subjective to personal preference.
If I wanted to recommend a setup that I personally like the best with good call quality, I recommend pac+cerux.

Try slimstar with cerux kernel and recheck noise suppression, I havnt had any problems with it plus good call quality IMO. Also don't download it yet because the dev said he's updating it tonight so get the updated version
You guys are all pointing to the wrong direction. The ROMs aren't what make the quality of calls even with kernals that tweek settings. Try flashing the most current radio for your android version. After installing the 4.2 radio released last month I haven't experienced a lot of call sound quality related issues. Try flashing a more current radio. Everyone complains on call quality in ROMs but never update their outdated radio. Since I've updated people say they hear me clear when before they used to tell me get a new phone. This might be your fix, especially if youve never updated it

Personally I am digging onlychevys slimbean unofficial 4.2.2, with the newest blaze radio. As suggested, go to phone settings and uncheck, recheck noise suppression, that seems to solve the poor call quality issues most of the time.
T769UVMB1 radio gives me the best user experience here in ne fla. It may be different where you live, you may have to try different radios to find one that works best for you.
Hope that helps
Sent from my big pimpin-T989 using Tapatalk 2
None of the ROM's will help you if they are all using the same radio. You need to flash a new radio. Go to the link there is a really nice list made of all Hercules compatible radios. Pick one, boot to recovery and install the .zip file. Many people like using the galaxy Note radio. I found T989UVLI4 worked best in my area. Make sure noise suppression in phone settings is checked.
