[Q] Going from CM Stable to Nightly? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Do I need to a full flash or a dirty flash?
Dirty flash as in wipe cache and install rom.
I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.0.0-Hercules and I want to upgrade to this nightly: http://get.cm/get/6id
I was told not to use CM's built in updates system.

You need to do a Full flash.
Reboot to Clockworkmod Recovery
1. Backup Current ROM.
2. Go to Wipe data/factory reset, then Do a Wipe Cache.
3. Go to Mounts and Storage, then Format /system -> Format /data & Format /cache.
4. Go to Advanced, then Do a Wipe dalvik cache.
5. Flash the ROM & Install New GApps for CM10.1.
6. Reboot and Let the ROM settle for 5-10 minutes.

[Q] CWM Wipe

I'm wondering if these are the correct procedure..
1. Wipe data / factory reset
2. Wipe cache
3. Advanced > wipe dalvik cache
4. Format /System
Anyone ?
really all you need to do is wipe data and cache (factory reset)
i prefer to format system just in case the rom does not include the script to format system, but most rom installs have a script that formats system

Yes it is...
This is ofcourse if you are installing complete ROM. However, if you are just installing an update I don't think your mobile will ever boot.
Otherwise, as suggested by some other members, all you need is just 1,2 and 3.

I've been following these steps since I had my Incredible years and still use of my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7. Try out CWM for a little, if you don't like try TWRP, I just switched over to it.

[Q] Rom updating w/o losing data?

Updating aokp for example, the aokp updater told me about the update but is it the same process as installing for the first time? Will I lose my apps and everything or does it only wipe cache? What step in roms delete everything, format data or factory reset or both?
Cheers.
No wipe needed if updating.I recommend wiping cache and dalvik-cache for good measure tho. And you have to reinstall gapps after the rom as well.
When a wipe is needed you want to select factory reset. Never select wipe/format data as it'll wipe the internal storage too.
Then what about...
If you are already on AOKP and doing an update:
1. Make a nandroid (backup in CWM)
2. Format /system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Install new ROM zip
6. Install gapps
If you end up with issue or coming from another ROM, do this:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Format /system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Install new ROM zip
6. Install gapps

Isn't a Format/system wiping the apps? Or does that not affect the apps? By format on my recovery it says formatting the sd card deletes everything (on TWRP).
Cheers.

problem with Xperia Z [CM 10.1]

(sorry for my bad english xd)
edit:
if I wipe my dalvik cache and then I would like to restore my previous rom (backed up 1week ago)... would be everything okay? without bugs?
i'm asking about it, because I dont know what is 'wipe dalvik cache' xd
Try this method.
1. Boot into recovery
2. Wipe data
3. Wipe cache
4. Install zip from sd-card and wait till it flashes
5. Wipe data again
6. Wipe cache again
7. Install gapps from sd-card
8. Wipe cache after flash
9. Wipe dalvik cache now
10. Hit reboot and enjoy

How to Flash a ROM Properly?
I recommend the following procedures because it is safe and recommended by CyanogenMod and also I recommend the users of Clockworkmod Recovery v5.0.2.7, to update for v6.0.2.9 which is Pretty Good & Working Perfectly.
How to Flash a ROM Properly using Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.9 ?
For Clockworkmod Recovery v6.0.2.9, DarkSide Super Wipe & DarkSide Cache Wipe Zips are not necessary
5. Install the ROM Zip from the SD Card or Internal Memory & then Install New GApps for CM10.1.
6. Reboot and Let the ROM settle for 5-10 minutes.
Note: Restore apps without data if your are using any backup tools such as TitaniumBackup etc., Restoring Apps with data cause Problems
How to Update ROM Properly?
After Installing CM10.1, If you want to update to new Nightly or Stable, a full wipe is not required.
We can do a Dirty Flash as Follows. This will not erase data & its Safe.
1. Reboot to Clockworkmod Recovery
2. Do a Wipe cache partition
3. Go to Advanced, then Do a Wipe dalvik cache
4. Install the ROM Zip from the SD Card or Internal Memory & Reboot.

Hello all,
can you help me with installation this ROM?? Because, i don´t know, how precisely install this rom. I have first time flash kernel, which has in zip? Then go the CWM and
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- mounts and storage - Format Cach/Data/System
- advanced - wipe dalvik cache
and then install rom, gapps?? It´s all?
Thank you very much.
Martin.

Please READ the installation instructions on the first post.
And no point telling anyone you don't know how to do it, Google is right in front of you.
To answer your question:
- flash the kernel
- boot into CWM
- flash the ROM.zip
- wipe data
Mount and format = wipe
You just repeated the wiping process for data and dalvik
In my experience it is not compulsory to wipe cache and dalvik when installing new ROM.
