I hope this is an appropriate place to ask this. I'm trying to do a simple mod to the Google Quick Search widget pictured at the top in the screenshot. I'm just not sure where the widget is located in the file system. All I am looking to do is make the frame thinner. I thought the widget was in system/app/quicksearchbox.apk, but I'm not sure that's the one. I have Nova Launcher Prime installed (I'm on CM 10.1 nightly), and believe this widget is part of it. Where are Nova Launcher widgets located?
Can someone clarify where this widget is located in the file system, and what file exactly (in the res folder) I should be looking to modify to make the frame thinner.
I found this guide on the whole process of modifying a widget's graphics. Is there one specifically for Mac users, and for rooted phones. I'm assuming I can skip the Android SDK part. Pardon my ignorance when it comes to this stuff.
Thanks for your help!

I don't use Nova myself but I believe the Quick Search bar has different layout. I know in ADW Ex I can change them so it could be something to look into before trying to mod the widget.

hi all,
I am new on Android, so please excuse my stupid question
I installed the ADW launcher and the paperless theme.
The problem is that not all icons have been changed to the paperless icons, e.g. the phone, contact icons still are the standard icons.
Does someone has an idea how to solve this?
(My galaxy is not rooted yet)
Thanks.

Press the menu button when on the home screen, go in to adw setti
ngs, select themes and there is a check box at the top about which icons to use.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I already tried this. The thing is, that some icons are from the theme, but not all.
Then they are not implemented... write an email to the developers and keep us up to date if you hear anything
Hmmm... As I wrote in my 1st post, the icons for phone and contacts are missing. And these icons are on the screenshots showing the theme,so I assume they are already implemented.
hmm, I don't use ADW anymore, I am on LauncherPro now, but try this:
When I tap the contacts icon for 1 sec I can select a new app to put there... select the contacts app again and then select the right icon.. This is how it works on LauncherPro, maybe there is a similar way on ADW
hth
unfortunately this is not working in ADW

I noticed this too, seems to happen on non standard dialer/contact apps. I think the theme writers need to fix this, not sure ?
Almost made the switch from LP to ADW if it wasn't for this. I <3 BuuF
This is a problem to do with samsung replacing the phone, messaging and related icons. Where do I find the icons once the theme is installed? I can then go about replacing them.
If someone tells me where the icons are I can tell you how to replace them. I have looked everywhere and don't know where the theme is located.. Do they stay inside the apk in /system/app? Anyone know how I extract the apk
I am also creating a few custom backgrounds and icons for this theme. Any requests please let me know, I will be drawing icons for most of the apps.
I've re-packaged the APK with the proper Samsung Galaxy S icons. If there's still interest let me know and I can post it. All credits to the developer, all I did was rename some files.
Fixes:
Calendar
Calculator
Camera
Clock?
Contacts
Dialer (Phone)
I noticed this problem before too. A workaround that I use is to create a custom shortcut to phone and contacts with ADW and then you can choose a custom icon for it. Then you can choose an icon for your phone and contacts.
Hi merrimax,
I would be interested in the theme for Galaxy.
I just updated (today) ADW and the Main Dock center icon (Apps) is no longer in Paperlss style.

the new update to ADW had a large number of UI changes. I think with that he changed the name of the app drawer picture which is why most of the themes lost their app drawer picture. You just have to wait til the themer updates to the latest ADW. A lot have already, but I know some still arent yet (e.g. BuuF )
Hi merrimax, I'm still interested in the renamed icons.
Where can I find them in the Galaxy?
hi everyone,
is there a way to change the icons of the apps in the dock on my GN? i tried installing Go Launcher EX and i found that it wasn't very fluid. I would much rather stay with the stock launcher. i just wish there was an easy way to change the icons in the dock so they could match the style of my home screen!
dialer, gmail. handcent and web browser are what i'm trying to trick out.
any help is very appreciated!
thank you
chris
As far as I know, it's not possible to modify app icons in the dock of the stock launcher.
^ seconded...I'm not sure that it can be done without a) changing the files in the framework on the Stock Rom, or using another launcher.
crud ok then, which launchers have worked the best for you on the GN? I'm really looking for one that will be as fluid as the stock launcher and not hog too many resources
ADW Ex is updated for ICS and is very quick/smooth and resource friendly.
You can do it with "Desktop Visualizer". Just create a new shortcut with the app, apply any icon you want, assign it to the application you want to open and drag it down to the dock.

Of course you can. I have.
Use Folder Organizer shortcuts, they work perfectly.
Edit: Nevermind. Misunderstood the question.
hello!
i'm not looking for info on how to edit apk's. google will help me about that. what i would like to know is, how much hassle is to edit apk?
the thing is, i'm running sense 3 rom which is a bit faster than sense 3.5 on my device, thus more pleasant to use. but sense 3 clock uses 4x2 grid and covers much of the homescreen in opposite to sense 3.5 4x1 clock widget. i found sense clock 4x1 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595236, but it doesn't show weather. i believe it's due to google weather being shut down. so i would like to edit this particular apk just to use different weather provider, like accuweather or maybe some croatian local service, whatever. so, how much of a work is it? i mean, setting up tools and finding the right line in code, compiling back, etc... if it's to much work for a complete noob in this area just to edit this one thing, then it's perhaps better for me to not dwell into these waters. for decompiling, editing and compiling back i'll refer to other topics and allmighty google. for now i just need this info...thx...
p.s. or if there's another 4x1 sense clock widget with working weather provider, feel free to point me in right direction. i've tried searching but came empty handed...thanks, all!
ok, to answer my own question, i've found "apk multitool" which turned to be pretty easy to setup with just a little bit of reading. now, i'm trying to find where should i change google weather api to something else, but looking to .xml files and weather forecast smali files i couldn't find anything. oh, i did found this value: "http://mw.weather.com/setloc?q=", which, when entered into firefox, brings me to weather.com webpage. and setloc part from the url brings me to believe it's purpose is to aquire location.
at this point i'm stuck. does anyone know where to look to change weather api?
I'm fairly new to zooper and am using nova prime. I use folders to make things tidy, while at the same time having access to all of my frequently used apps. I am wondering if it is possible, and if so, how would I create a widget (I want to create a text widget with transparency) that links or is the cover to a folder. Is this possible?
Thanks much and great app..

I'm also using Nova and still haven't been able to figure this out. In the mean time, I use simi widget but I would like to have Zooper support folders on its own. I can create them in the app drawer, but Zooper doesn't recognize them. Did you ever find a solution to this, or are you just using a third party app?
I was never able to get this to work with Nova. I also tried many of the other popular launchers including Apex, ADW, and Smart Launcher, but none of them worked either. What is required is a launcher that allows creation of a shortcut to a folder or group or something. To date, I've only found two launchers that do this: Themer and Lightning Launcher. Both are good, but for me, I really like the amount of configurability of Lightning Launcher. If you put in the time to work with it and combine it with Zooper, many of the "effects" that Themer tries to simulate, such as slide out drawers which have to be done with multiple screens a lot of widget duplication, can actually be made truly functional in Lightning Launcher. Check here to see a great example of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/themer/zooper-templates/one-theme-t2790386
Hi , I saw this layout on someone's iphone - http://i.imgur.com/cZBoGeA.png and I really liked it.
How can I achieve something similar?
easy with Zooper and if you could find the right iconpack!

I google the screen you show and what i can see the icons are called "Custom Gotham icons"..
You can achieve this pretty easily, with the exception of the extreme upper and extreme lower portions, for those you'd need to install a different launcher on Android like Nova Launcher.
I'm really not a fan of those though, so to achieve the other 90% of it, you'd just need the background wallpaper, then use Zooper to make the clock widget, and although you could use Zooper to make the icon layout(s), I would say that once you have the icon set and/or icon images, using an app called Quick Shortcut Maker is the best way to make/set/assign custom icons for every app on your phone.
However depending on how many icons you want in the rows/columns, Zooper maybe the only way to go if you want a configuration other than what your stock launcher offers.
