So I'm gonna have to cancel my sprint account an go to boost. I seen a tutorial on how to flash the epic to boost and I guess if I follow the steps ill figure my way thru, but I have just one question. If I flashed to boost mobile will I still be able to flash any rom I want? I understand I may not be able to switch modems, but at least will I still be able to use any ROM and kernel?

Yes you will be able to flash any ROM/kernel that works with the Epic. You should be able to use the NS4G modem as well. You will NOT get 4G service unless you use a 4G capable "donor" and move the WiMax info over as well.
The only "catch" is that it's always best to start with a stock ROM, make sure everything is working properly (calls, text, data, etc) and then root the phone for modding.

yeah it will, since sprint and boost use pretty much the same thing... sprint just has roaming you will need to change your apn though back to mm.myboostmobile.com through ##data# or *#*#data#*#* depending on your rom, or open voice dialer and say open apn and change sprint mmsc url to above
I have an S3 that's flashed to MetroPCS.
Will flashing custom roms remove my carrier settings?
I'm just curious how "am I safe" related to your question haha. But flashing a custom rom made for sprint phones and service is very risky and not a good idea.

neither of the above users are correct.
It doesn't matter what carrier it is made for, you can use it with MetroPCS. you might want to remove the Sprint specific apks from /system/app, but other than that, it will continue to work with MetroPCS.
I am running Jelly Bomb 7.0 and my wife is running Freeza's LJ7 leak. we both have 3g speeds, internet, mms in/out, voicemail notifications, etc.
If you are missing any of the above, check out my guide on how to get it done on the S3.

Thanks for the informative reply. What about the Sprint JellyBean update?
Sent from my SprintroPCS Samsung GS3.
You said custom roms. If you get the Sprint OTA you will lose root.
Understand that the settings that make your phone connect to MetroPCS,
Send and receive text messages and get 3g access can not be affected or overwritten by flashing any kind of rom or by receiving an ota.
However, mms requires modification to the APN, which requires root access.

BUUUUT I can root Jellybean once I get it.
The reason I asked is because I had an Evo 3D before this, and for some reason, when I would flash an AOSP ROM, my phone would lose its carrier settings and go back to Sprint. I think the phone had a modified or repaired ESN.
I can not believe how mean you guys are. Would you feel good if your Cat got killed just because of a careless ROM flash?

Nevermind I took a shot at it and I am happily on CM10 right now. Also, I did the update through ODIN and that worked.
Also on a side note to the rest of you, Don't give me smart ass replies to a simple question. I don't need that. Thanks.
Have any VM US users installed the official update from Kies for their "Samsung Galaxy II" (Epic 4G Touch) yet? Have you had any problems? Has anything improved? The two problems that I read about so far are:
- Google Now closing quickly. Seems there is a fix by clearing cache or reset.
- BT not stable for some audio devices.
How is your battery life, has it improved, I read one report on the Sprint device that it did.
Please let me know of your experience with the official VM Jelly Bean, id GB28 US update from Kies, good or bad, thanks.

Hi wizard, this thread is about the official Samsung update via Kies. I am not sure about VM-specific ROMs as I am not rooted.
Currently on stock ICS, Virgin has visual voice mail but it only seems to work sometimes for me. I am not sure how it will work on JB or if it will even exist on the official JB. I am pretty sure some vendor-specific features like Sprint ID and Virgin Mobile ID are lost in the official JB release.

I guess I miss understood the thread. The title implied there was a E4gT with a Virgin Mobile GB28 based rom in existence.
I am looking for a phone.apk, that used the non-visual voice mail system, which is comparable with the E4GT. I was hopping I might be able to get it from this rom.

Flashing Instructions:
This will NOT flash a modem. If you are coming from stock MD7, you will keep MD7. Same goes for whatever baseband you have right now!
1. Download zip to your sdcard
2. Reboot into CWM, TWRP, or other compatible recovery(I used CWM 6.0.3.1 Touch)
3. Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot

I do not claim to be the expert on anything, especially development issues. If you notice issues, please let me know. And if you have a solution to one of the issues I've found, please, by all means, post it and you'll get the credit. Enjoy
Note: It seems when rebuilding this to fix the issues above, I've lost the "rising orange Bs" boot animation. There's still boot-up sound, and the blue Samsung animation, but no Boost-specific. If you want it, you can get it from the previous build If I get time, I'll add it back in manually, but frankly, I like not having it there, it seems to boot a little faster

Actually, it'll work just fine. It'll just have Boost signature and mmsc url. Just like Boost and VM users have to change mmsc url, you would have to as well, I think. I say that, because if you check mmsc urlv on this rom, it actually reads "not set." I would be interested to see if mms would send and receive on other carriers with it saying "not set."
