[Q] 4.1.2 update missing premium suite and more - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I just got the 4.1.2 update on my galaxy s3 today and well its really not an update the only thing i got was the Group Play App..No premium suite, no split screen multitasking, or any of the other things that were supposed to be in this update. Has anyone else had this problem? I called Sprint and they said they couldnt help me...(no shock there). I dont know whether or not I should hard reset my phone or what. Any suggestions or what not would be greatly appreciated.
Sprint Galaxy S 3
Model # SPH-L710
Android Version 4.1.2
Baseband L710VPBMA6

The 4.1.2 update for Sprint does not include the Premium Suite update. I think I read somewher that they don't plan on realeasing the update in the US until after the S4 comes out. But take that with a grain of salt.

This update is 4.1.2 it's just an update of the current 4.1 JB. It is not 4.2 what your thinking of is 4.2 JB which is what Google has released already for the Nexus devices in its AOSP version. I'm sure as stated previously Samsung is holding off and working on that for a future S4 device. What this update is a bug fixer, and some ground work for when actual 4.2 is updated to the S3.

He is referring to the 4.1.2 update that was released in Europe with the Premium Suite (multi-window.. other things I didn't care to remember LOL). Who knows when we'll get 4.2.. My estimate is probably end of summer or beginning of fall so hopefully like sometime in September

Build number?

I have read that the k at the end of a build number means its updated by Samsung. My build number is IMM76K. The question I have my system update button only says check now. My gf Samsung SIII has Samsung update check and firmware update check button, so is mine updated by Sprint, Samsung, or Google?

The K doesn't have anything to do with Samsung. However, your official update will come through Sprint, as they do not release the binaries to Google so they can update "their" device like the GSM version.

Thanks for clarifying. One thing I read is the binaries for the Nexus S 4g were released will this eventually help / lead to the Nexus?

different phones.. how can it help?
We "have" fully functional AOSP 4.1.1 through custom ROMs. We don't need anything to help. If you want a great pure stock experience and have the Sprint version (Toroplus), then grab the newly released version of Purely AOSP. Completely stock based build of AOSP 4.1.1 JRO03H. Runs flawless, no broken features, no bugs.

I understand what you're saying. Binaries are only useful to the device they were released for. That aside, if we were talking about Nexus S/GB, it would be a different story, since binaries source was released. Several samsung devices (like i9000) had CM support because of this.

We just had a leak for ICS. So if anything it will be ICS. And don't expect official jb for about 2-3 months after international gets it. At&t is really slow with it.

Here's a quick Youtube video of the new Galaxy S3 update that will trickle out eventually for US carriers. This should answer most of your questions. It's only available for International as of now:

Any ETA of 4.2.2 or 5.0.0

I tried looking around but couldn't find anything, maybe searched google with the wrong keywords or IDK. Thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else knew any better.
No...
We have no ETA for either official version.
Rest assured if leaks are released, or official versions drop, you will see a flurry of activity regarding those builds.
Meanwhile...enjoy the fine builds we do have....IMHO....g

Ahh okay must've been one of the blog articles I got it confused in thinking KLP would be released for the Note 2.

4.2.2 can pop up any day now for s3 and note2. 5.0 wont be available for a long time (probably will see 4.3 first, and 5.0 will be the last update for note 2).

Isn't the latest official release 4.1.2? What happened to 4.2.1? I'm sure I'm out of the loop on this.
They'll skip over 4.2.1 because it's unnecessary now that 4.2.2 is out

The real trick, is to watch for international release leaks...
Our friends on the other side of the pond will get new releases first, every time. And those builds are generally leaked.
If you see an international note 2 leak that boasts a 4.2.2 build number or higher, then you have cause to celebrate. And only hours later our devs will post the findings.
This info is of course, subject to change without notice...LOL....g

[Q] Samsung galaxy nexus update to 4.3 and 5.0?

Do you think that the galaxy nexus will still be updated to android 4.3 and 5.0?
Definitely get 4.3 with gnex as its still jellybean an its not exactly a major update just a couple of tweaks here an there, why would they discontinue the jellybean updates with the gnex while we are already on jellybean that's just stupid as for android 5 i seriously doubt we will get it.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
i think we will get 5.0 also since majority of the phones in the market are still on gb and ics and single core phones, ours is still dual core and i feel its got enough juice to run the future os versions
I think the nexus 4 and 7 will get the 5.0 update, for the galaxy nexus probably only 4.3 hopefully also 5.0

Will the s3 ever see android 4.4?

I'm sure there's great features to come with it, but will we need newer devices?

I highly doubt we will see an official OTA
Unless it can't be done someone's bound to try

4.3 I'm pretty sure we'll get

Our hardware becomes older and older day by day so is there any point to Android 4.4 on our S3's?

I had replied to Cnexus 2 above your response in that thread. I actually posted in another thread beating on when it would be asked if we would get it.
My 4 year old OG epic 4g has CM10 running on it, a phone that stopped receiving updates at gingerbread... So hardware while it is a factor can still run latest android versions. It's all up the creative minds of developers.
Have a great day!
I have cm 10 but it won't update because I need to reflash md4 bootloads

I refuse to call it KitKat, Damn google and their marketing schemes. 4.4 forever, and OG Epic for the win!!

The galaxy S3 will be getting 4.3 in October
But I don't think it will officially get 4.4. However does officially really matter, when you can just get it unofficially?
Also by the time carriers actually start releasing 4.4 the gs3 will be a third or even fourth tier phone in the series
Also I like the idea of KitKat it was Google one upping all those people who thought they could predict them in a creative way that also set up more advertising ect...
Eh, not holding my breath. I would rather get it unofficially IMO. Nice to brag to my friends or others
"here look, I'm running the latest of android"......and your not:laugh:

The Galaxy S3 will but ours won't. Always always always when they announce updates forthcoming they are talking about the international versions. It is then up to Samsung and the carriers to invest resources to put them on US phones. Typically this takes several months IF the carrier is interested. AT&T just got 4.1.2 and it is not a pushed update.
As for 4.4 I have no doubts about the S3 getting that version but you will be asking the same hypothetical question then about 5.0.
I could see the s3 getting Kitkat, but not for a while after all of the other phones. Just because the s3 was a very successful phone and they're still being sold like crazy. Anyways, I hope I'll have Kitkat on my s5 on release .

Galaxy S phones have always had two major updates (Galaxy S1 got Froyo and Gingerbread, S2 got ICS and JB. Since Android has had multiple versions of Jelly Bean, it is hard to say whether or not they think of Jelly Bean 4.1 and Jelly Bean 4.3 as two major updates for the Galaxy S3, but if not, then it is likely we will get Android 4.4 KitKat.

Since we don't even have a clue about a release date for 4.4 I would not venture a guess.
