Desire. Tried many roms.. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
Im using HTC Desire, i really love the phone, but i have problems with it.
i tried like thousands of roms, gingerbread, jelly bean, ics..
and EVERY rom is so fkn bad at perormance.
even doodle jump have low fps on my Desire.
i have other phone, ZTE Blade, it has 600 mhz processor, same resolution as desire and its playing smooth angry birds, hill climb racing and so on.
even little minigames have low fps.
I clocked my desire, min clock was like 500-700 mhz, max 1100 something.
still bad fps.
600 mhz is 2x faster than my 1ghz?
what the hell?

maybe its sd card problem or what?
i went to recovery, partition sd card, then 1gb, swap memory or whatever it was to 0.
apps open very slowly, and when i download from google play and first time open it, it always crashes.
even simple game (happy jump) opens like 10 sec.

I just went to recovery, and then partitioned it there, as i said.
Chosed 1 gb for apps, swap memory 0.
I did something wrong?
I dont really know anything about partitioning

what class is your sdcard? do you use script which transfers data also on sdext? did you try changing sd?

Yes u can download it from the market its the best recovery for the desire, u can use it to partition your SD card, you should make a 1gb ext 4 partition rest fat32, there is a excellent guide on here to show exactly how to do it, read that to make sure you do it properly and make sure you backup all ur data to a computer, just search for the guide

Okay. I flashed ext4.
i partitioned 2gb for apps.
So i flashed rom, went to storage and i saw that internal memory is 148mb.
It shows that my SD Card total space is 6 out of 8.
(i typed this su, a2sd install in terminal)

You won't see your partition but its there doing its job, you can get an app called free space from the market and then you can see your extension

Hmm 2gb ext. Bit much. 1.5gb is usually the most recommended. Anything bigger sometimes can cause issues. If u ask me 1gb is perfect, i mean how many apps u planning on installing? 1000? Haha

I hope I get better performance now.
1 thing more, what rom do you prefer for games and browsing web?
ICS have really smooth browsing, but browsing with gingerbread is horrible.
Dunno about gaymz
/Okay, i tried to download angry birds space, cool game tho, but it tells me "Sorry, there's not enough space to install this item".
//I think i give up. I have ext4, 1gb (changed from 2).
Still bad fps at games..

Still same problem! Please help!!!

I tried another sd card, still same problem!!!

[Q] Low On space...argh!

OK, all the threads I've found about this are quite old.
I've been pretty good at managing the storage on my Desire, but now I have this warning permanently on and I can't bin any more apps.
When I list them, all the big ones are on SD, so what is munching my space?
I have my mail set to only carry the last 30 days. At this rate I'll be getting my XDA Serra out of the attic...
Browser cache or contracts if you have a lot of them. If not probably data associated with your apps.

And cache cleaner.
Better still, why not root the phone and install a custom rom as suggested. You can then run everything from a larger internal memory space, meaning a faster phone and no low memory warnings!
Root!
Data2Ext, A2SD+, CM7 H-Boot table, etc.
There are plenty solution for low on memory problem, and they are the main reason why I rooted my phone.
I just tried Data 2 Ext and partitioned my SD card as was told by the RCMixHD ROM thread, but after installing that ROM I get a Low On Space warning! Getting really annoyed with the badly tested roms out there. I mean really, so much for using the data2ext script when it doesn't even work!
I'm back to Redux. Only ROM that's actually STABLE. Too bad not having a HTC Sense keyboard on that rom.

Reduce internal mem usage

Phone gets real slow when int mem gets low. So how do I release mem? I've realised that moving apps to SD does reduce it but not all will move. I've moved what I can so far but would still like more free int mem.

Root it or buy a new phone.
Several topics above yours you could find HTC Desire memory issues, at the 4th page I have described what one can do to increase available memory. And yeah, root + custom rom is probably the best thing you can do.
Edit
Ah I didn't saw that you are already rooted, so get a rom with more space for apps
Thx. Hmmmm yeah rooted with large SD. 2g ext4. Isn't there a method to use some SD space as internal or extention too?

[Q] Some questions

I've been reading this forum for about a week or so. I was wondering what that "partition" means. I have cm 7.2 but haven't done that.
Other question is that when I use SetCPU to overclock my gio then when I reach to about 900 MHz, my Gio freezes and I have to take out my battery to reboot. It happens always I try to overclock.
If you need more information then ask
P.S. I have Galaxy Gio S5660 CM 7.2 RC-1 Patch 4
Partition is a part wich you can create via an program on computr to crrate a partitioon on your sd card..
Then data and caches can be moved there using root acces and special app..
So you get more internal memory free.
Only thing; it slows down apps because of the cache and data is moved where it isnt normally.
Thats why im not using it any more

Well if you run out of memory it is, I got 40 MB free, all apps on Sd, data and cache on intrnal.
Howeverrrr you can delete some apps in /system wich frees up space, I got rid of all unneeded CM7 apps.
I dont need it to run cm7 with much apps and games

Can you make a list for me what apps to delete?
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda premium
Im using an app called system app remover, can be found free if you seatch google....
You can set assist for it, wich gives green, red or yellow colors, what users thought about removing it.
I only remove green ones, back up them, and yellow ones If I know what app it is, like google search or voice dialer wich I both dont use.

You can use Simple2Ext with CM7.2 i am also using it. It will make your internal memory free i managed to get 172mb free from 178mb total.
First you have to make an ext4 partition from the pc by putting the sdcard in the sdcard reader. remember NEVER use the phone or usb cable to make the partition.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cygl0qZnbaM
This video will help you make it and afterwards you can follow the instructions of enabling simple2ext from the CM 7.2 thread.
and you dont have to use SetCPU to overclock. Just go to cyanogenmod settings and then go into performance, there you can set the minimum and maximum speed. Different models of gio can clock sometimes higher sometimes lower.
Well yes I know about cm being able to overclock from settings but the problem is freezing. It freezes even when I overclock from settings. And ty for the material on partition.

Freezing must be because your gio wont support that much overclock, try something lower than that. and welcome you can always press the thanks button

It totally depends upon your needs. If you do need some apps but can't have them because of space issues then sd-ext partition would definitely help you. Otherwise, you don't really need it. I went as high as 107 apps installed and still had 57MB or so free. Also, the slowing down of apps is not noticeable (not talking about games etc.)
You should define your needs first and then proceed. Plus, you can always undo that so no harm in trying.

Try installing a different kernel......

Here is cyanogen kernel, maybe that helps

Nah, he already has CM installed. That must be hardware problem.
From what I read that other users post our Gio vary in hardware part - somebody says their CPU runs smooth at 950 MHz, and somebody says "hey, mine freezes at 845 MHz".
So it's just a matter of experiments that would allow you to find maximum stable frequency (just like in a world of "big computers" - different chips could be OC'ed to different frequency even if they were initially labelled the same)
As for external SD partition... I certainly recommend SD class 6 as minimal to do this (and 10 would be much better). I think internal memory is something around 10 class (that are my observations, no tests neither official publications to back this up).
To find out what SD class is read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating

[Q] Phone/SD storage speed

Hi.
Is there any disadvantage moving apps from "phone storage" to "SD storage" in One X? Is there any write/read speed difference?
Thanks
Both memory is the same, just partitioned as "internal" and another part as "sd card".
So no, there is no speed diference.

Other than using less space on the "internal"
Yeah, but the op already knows that
Tbh i dont know why apps still dont install themselfs on sdcard by default if sdcard is present.. or at least ask where to be installed, like symbian did 6 years ago.. oh well, maybe we'll see that in android 6.0

Big games already do that automatically. Try installing Asphalt or NFSMW, the APK stays in the internal partition while the game files are on the SD partition.
Sure those do, probably because there is not enough space on internal or 2 games would fill it.. but still would be nice to be asked for the <200mb games too.. oh well, one day maybe

Can anyone explain me how we can use swap on buzz since our recoveries dont have that option?
What are the advantages?
Does it really burn sdcard or it is similar to overclocking burns processor chip?

As said above it certainly degrades SD card life.I didnt loose any but mine 8gb class 6 sd card became so slow that copying a 70mb file used to take about 20mins to copy!
So I had to buy a new one,but yes there is a noticeable change in performance using swap. But just to get that bit of performance boost, you might end up being frustrated the other way,so not recommended.
Well i used swap Nothing strange happen with SD card... i used only 256 mb which is more than enough.
I used it with "system control pro" app, as it let you set swapiness, vf cache preasure and drop caches.
If you experiment with those values you can get something good. And also if you dont do it right you will get random reboot 1 times a day, or freeze sometime when it full that swap but does not drop cache... depending how you set it, you can get multitasking improved
If you have time try it. Sure kernel must support swap as you know it alrdy i guess...
Good luck :good:
