Multiple roms installed at the same time? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey im new to the s3 coming from droid 3 and it had this thing called safestrap and hou could install 4 diffetent roms and kernels to and itd take 10 seconds to just switch it to another. I wad wondering if there was somryhing similar for the s3. Thanks if anyone replies to this

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Only thing you can do would be to switch between your nandroid backups

I have multirom installed on my nexus 7 and have 4 roms running. Not sure if multirom can be ported to s3.

While I am sure it can be done Orbison really no different then keeping a few nandroid backups of other roms and restoring them. Not the wisest idea but fun at times

Not exactly called multirom. what im talking about is safestrap for the droid 3. yeah backing up and restoring nandroid might be the same but this is alot faster and more convenient. I wish I new how to develop lol

Start by porting another carriers ROM for fun. Not a whole lot of steps but its a nice sense of accomplishment
http://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=37948039

boot manager doesn't work apparently. found a tutorial on how to dual bot stock with cyan mod. it says to install siyahs kernel. would i brick my phone if i experimented with other ones to? and what would the steps be to port safestrap to s3? I know I would have to get the developers permission and stuff if i wanted to attempt doing so. its basically a whole new bootloader I think lol.

Well let me put it this way: It depends if you have a good warranty :silly:
Playing with bootloaders is a very dangerous thing and probably shouldn't be the first Dev project you take on.

that's a good point haha. have you anyone tried dual booting? It says in the tut to post the tutorial on any forum. would it be unfair to do post it on here just to see what people say without trying it myself? lol

I never tried it myself as it's not a feature I need. I enjoy a ROM that works and don't look back once I've settled on one. I will though be entertained by others.
Posting the tutorial here probably isn't the best idea as it could cause some people to brick their phones. Imo, you could look for a Dev who's willing to look at it.

yeah i didn't do it cause i had the feeling not to I backed up my stock rom and installed galaxy mod discovering that My imei was corrupted and didn't back my efs. i restored stck and it was back and I had data back. If I go back to galaxy mod and backup my efs how would i be able to restore it back so i have my imei number on galaxy mod or was that not a usual case?

It's unusual but can happen. Replacing your efs folder with your backed up one should fix it.
As another option, there's a thread specificaly for it. Let's your fix your IMEI without a backup (of course, backup is better/easier).

yeah. really dont want to risk having to get a new phone. i restored a nandroid backup and its working fine for now.

Intimidating compared to X

I am trying to get my read on here to catch up to ROOTING and ROMs for the INC. I am used to z4root and loading .zips through clockwork. This seems a little more intense on the INC.
There any good one stop shop guides Im not finding searching this forum? I've found Unrevoked (which I need to make sure I will read to understand) and it looks like most are just using rom manager. Is it also easy to FLASH back to stock in case I mess up?
Thanks guys
I remember when I was in you shoes!! Everything you need to know is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=638 in the stickies. And yes returning to stock is very simple.

Yeah I just did revoked and noticed this is clockwork just like the X. I can go ahead and just install the zip file for the ROM I want?
yup, easy as that. Make sure you have a good nandroid back up and wipe your data / catch / dalvik catch if your switching between roms.
good luck and nandroid nandroid nandroid!
Uh oh I only did a backup in clockwork after root =(
That's ok. The main thing is that you have a working back up (stock or not) to flash back to if something goes wrong.

[Q] question about installing roms

Hi all, this is my first post and i hope to take advantage from it.
I've done a lot of research in the android development forums. The first thing i did to my phone was to get it rooted. So far so good, i followed the instructions and everything went ok.
Now i want to install a ROM. Thing is there is a lot of terminology i do not quite understand and i want to know for sure how this process is done correctly. In theory i know how to install a ROM but some disclaimers keeps me from doing it.
The main question here is, my phone has to meet some prerequisites in order to install a ROM? I mean, the android version of my phone, baseband version, kernel version and build number necessarily need to have the same characteristics from the ROM i will be flashing? For example, Team Kang's Juggernaut base band version is T989VKID mine is T989UVKL1, the android version is 2.3.5, mine is 2.3.6 and so on. That basically is it. I do not want to mess up my phone but at the same time i wanna enjoy those great roms.
Thanks in advance and i wish a happy valentine's day to all
Download ROM manager. Pick install from sd card. Wipe data and cache. Pick the ROM you downloaded. Just make sure you only install roms from this forum
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
The answer to your question is basically no. Roms don't change your baseband. So that doesn't matter. If your on 2.36 and you install a 2.35 ROM you'll just be on 2.35. But in the case of a kickass ROM that would be just fine.

instead of using rom manager, I would suggest doing everything from the CWM recovery itself. The manual way is always better and you encounter less problems along the way..
i.e. backup/restore isn't complete. didn't wipe everything clean... etc.

I could be wrong but I think the last version of CWM wont let you make backups to the internal but you can flash from the internal. But the newest touch version that just came out a few weeks ago does have internal suppoert for backups so you have to flash the latest one. And I would listen to them when they say not to use rom manager there are far too many problems with it. Also the latest version of juggs is 4.1 and that is 2.3.6. I would use that one. Good luck

Chk out this site (galaxys2root.com) it gives me a lots of EASY TO UNDERSTAND info when i started playing with ROMs.Currently i am on my fifth ROM .
Yes do full wipe, Clear caches and do a nandroid back up first thou and make sure after flashing and re booting to let it sit for 10min

Dumbest Question Ever!!

Hello all,
I have had a couple of smartphones and I've asked a couple of questions on xda about various things regarding those phones. I just recently upgraded my work phone to the ET4G and I love the phone but hate the battery life and hotspot restrictions. I have no clue how to flash roms but I'm not totally clueless, I can follow directions. Can someone tell me or point me in the right direction as to how I install a custom rom on my phone. I want to install Calk N Venums Stock Rom but I manually installed ICS 4.0.4 because Sprint took forever to roll out the update. Not sure if the process was similar to me going into bootloader and unziping the file, etc. Long story short, I need to know what I need to have preinstalled on the phone so that I don't brick it (Clockwork Recovery, etc.). The devs have done a great jump with these roms and I am very interested in trying some out given I know the proper steps. Thanks for any and all advice.

Man, you guys are awesome with the quick responses. Thank you guys so very much. I'll revert back to this thread if I run into any hiccups.
This is the most helpfull video out there will teach you how to get to el26 and cwm

Follow the video up to the point were he reboots in cwm
The rom you wants recommends el26 cwm there are different ways to get cwm but to mee this is the easies for noobs but please read don't brick
"preferably in stock el26 cwm if possible"
Then just follow the rom recomended instruction
Flashing instructions:
Full wipe recommended, that means....
Wipe cache
Wipe data
Wipe dalvik cache
Calks format all(you can find this in any of his actual threads)
Flash rom
Enjoy
Thank all you gents again. I'll look at the threads and the videos and I'll pay with this tonight. I'll reply back with my questions. Thanks peeps.

Secondly, can I go back to my stock ROM if I don't like the custom ROM like nothing ever happened? Or will my phone be deflowered and never the same again? Just wanna make sure before I try this.

Stuck on edge even after injecting IMEI

I know there's been multiple threads on this topic but I can't figure out how to solve it after reading each one. Here's my story. I rooted it and then flashed CM10 via cwm recovery and everything was working fine. One day later without doing anything my 4g started slowing down and eventually I can't get anything but edge. I looked around xda and found out that i might be missing my IMEI. Sure enough my IMEI was a 0. I tried recovering to a back up but that didn't fix it so I injected it back in via Peoplearmy's method. The IMEI is now in place but I still wasn't getting anything but edge. I tried using odin to flash it back to stock which worked but I still wasn't getting anything but edge. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix this? I have contacted Peoplearmy but he hasn't replied yet and i need this fixed asap so it would be great if someone could help me out. This is the T-mobile version of the s3. If you need any more information please ask. Thanks. I would post this in another place but I don't have enough posts. Relatively new here.
Another victim... Listen man, it's hard to say how to fix this issue. Nobody really knows how people are losing their imei although I think there is a ****ty cwm recovery floating around. If you read through the imei recovery thread there is a ton of people with the same issue as you.

Oh, didnt realize he took it down temporarily. Did you make the backup required by it though? Once you have that just pm peoplearmy. Hes been extremely helpful to a lot of people.
Read through his threads while you are waiting for his reply as there is most likely a way to do it manually anyway.
I know its a long one so try searching the thread for qcn restore or backup or anything related.

Yeah, he just posted stating that people without data should do a backup and pm him. That's what I just did
Right on! Good luck with it!

[Q] Anything i should do before i root?

I'm planing to root my Sprint S3 today using QBking77 video then i'm thinking to stay with stock rom but remove bloatware using Titanium backup.
But is there anything i should do before i start rooting? i mean do i need to backup the stock rom or anything like that just in case i mess up something? i saw a lot of threads about people looking for sprint stock roms to put it back to their phones.
Please let me know before i root my phone.
Thanks in advance.
You won't be able to do a backup until after you root.
Do anything before rooting. Yes. READ.
THEN, READ SOME MORE.
and don't try installing an international ROM.

READ, and when you have read it all READ it again. Make sure you know everything. Once you root, go back into custom recovery (CWM) and do a nandroid backup. Then you can start messing with it, if you screw up your can always restore that stock nandroid you have.
Then READ some more.

I would suggest going through at least the "user" section of xda-university. Its a really great resource

Couldnt have said it better than the first two posts.
Oh p.s. once you root you won't stay stock lol I guarantee you end up flashing a ROM.
