WIFI Tether for root users settings JB - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

This may be old news, but I got WiFi Tether for Root Users to work on our T989 running JB 4.2.1. Change the default device to "generic ics/jelly bean wlan01" and set the network settings to "auto". Set the channel to "xxxWlan01" and force the driver updates.

You set these parameters in the apps settings menu. As for not working on CM10...is that Jelly Bean 4.2.1? Or 4.1.2? I am guessing that may make a difference. Wait never mind you did say 10.1 nightly...therein may lie the kicker...being a nightly and all. I am posting some screenshots.

Possible fix for wifi tethering in cm10.1
How to have it working : Stop the Wifi, go on internet and look at your IP. In adb, do netcfg.
It will show you a line like that : vsnet0 UP 10.95.95.175/32 0x000010d1 00:00:00:
So, here, [vsnet0] is the [INTERFACE]. <----
Just after, do su -c "iptables -tnat -A natctrl_nat_POSTROUTING -s 192.168.0.0/16 -o [INTERFACE] -j MASQUERADE"
Oh, use Terminal Emulator.

Thanks for your helpful and informative participation.

I followed a thread posted by Agentfour20 on the galaxy s3 for tethering. I also got it working on the hercules by following all the directions, but i had to uncheck the "Send Netd Max Client Cmd" for the laptop to pickup the internet. I tried this mod on cm10 and cm10.1 and could not get it to work. I am running infamous 3.1 final now and everything works great. I would post a link to the thread but I don't think i can yet. Good luck, hope this helps. Here's the link, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063043 This is a very easy setup method and it hides your IP

I did the $1.99 one month subscription to hot spot shield, and then it let me have full speed. I double checked with speedtest on the comp. Also with the subscription you don't get all the popup ads on your phone. You have to use the trevemods wifi app. Hits thanks if I helped

I have a quick question, though this might not be the place to ask. I just acquired this sweet little device and haven't had the opportunity to root yet so I'm stock. I have my s2 prepaid on the$70 monthly plan. I have this app called foxfi to use as my mobile hotspot. It works fine when I connect to my PC however after while the Web pages will pull up to t mobiles Web page saying some BS about paying for hotspot. Now on my account app its says that my data plan is null but my data works fine. Any thoughts?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

I'm not sure about the prepaid plan, but with the method I'm using you have to be rooted. So far it's the only way around the upsell pages with full internet that I have found for our phones. No changing u.a. strings or anything like that.

There is no tether option under settings>more>tethering?
You can also use wifi tether or barnacle.

Barnacle works on everything so far (Even XboxJ's new CM7/Crespo) I use on PA 1.9.8 currently. Have used on CM10. GO into settings and check Skip SPA supplicant. May have to hit Associate if it doesn't give IP address at first. But has been tested and works (Connected Windows 7 Laptop, ipod and kindle to it)

[Q] Tethering only works sporadically...?

Hey Peepz,
I rooted my GS3 and installed WiFi tether. Selected the Samsung Galaxy Nexus profile and the general ICS/JB profile.
The problem is that WiFi tether only works sometimes, so I enable it. work with it. turn it off and maybe 2 or 3 hrs later turn it on again - it says "press to stop tethering" but no WiFi hot spot is visible to my devices (iPad, Laptops, etc). Then i turn tether off, on, off, let it sit there, restart the phone and once ever other try (dozens and dozens of trys) it works.
Is there something I am missing? Btw I have two GS3s and the same happens to the other one as well...
Yeah same here. I have to start stop a few times then I see the wifi network.

Have you seen a pattern? I haven't had much time with the phones yet (approx. 2 to 3 days). I tried turning off WiFi before tethering but have not found a solution yet. are there any other apps I should try? is WiFi tether the only one? It seems like thats the one people are using...
Are you running any custom roms? Native tether works perfect for me. Other than that i think the Wi-Fi tether for root users 3.2 beta is the best after that

I got the same problem with my USB tethering. I plug in my CPU, it's working perfectly for 5 minutes, after that, everything stop. Same with my WIFI Hot Spot. Dunno what's the problem ?!? Maybe it will work fine with Jelly B ! Hope it comes fast for videotron.

I was asking the guy i quoted
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Mine works, however after a few minutes, the data craps out. Any suggestions? I'm using the auto profile. If I leave it for a few hours, turn it back on, then it usually works again for a few minutes. Is this something Wind is doing to stop you from using lots of data? I have an unlimited plan.
Do you mine sharing your settings. If I use wifi tether straight out of the box, default everything I'm getting redirected to the Tmob page which says my cost will be $14.95 per. When I change profiles to say Generic Ics/JB and change to channel 6 I still connected to the phone but I get no "internet connection". I've checked ipconfig and of course it shows I've connected to the phone and dhcp has assign me an ip, 192.168. something but I got nothing. Right now I'm fu***ed. I so wanted to call comcast and tell them... well you know!
I still may just pay the $14.95 to Tmob instead of $70 to Comcastm makes sense. Before tmob shut me down I was getting 8-10 down and 1-1.5 up on my lappy thru the GS3!
Any tips or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
If you get the upsell page then change the user agents. What Rom are you using... why don't you use native tethering? When it says no internet connection... just wait awhile until it reconnects you should get internet after that.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I'm using cm10 nightly and I did use the hotspot option thru the phone to test the speed. I knew Tmob would get wise and block me which they did hence the sell thru page. So I down loaded Wifi Tethering and installed but wasn't too sure about the setting? I also installed the user agent pluggin for Chrome. Then I selected "Chrome on Windows" as my common user agent and here we are.

A Little Advice.
This app would appeal to folks living in newbie Nirvana. There's one born every minute...I hear.
For those who insist on using unsecured wi-fi hotspots (e.g., coffee shops) and/or accessing sites that don't employ (at a minimum) HTTPS ,you can easily cloak your activities from this tool with a simple OpenVPN client. See 'simple Internet Access' up on Play Store. An encrypted OpenVPN tunnel will keep your activities cloaked and data unreadable
Pretty crazy. I saw my wife's iPhone on our network and used the password sniffer- it immediately told me her Hotmail username and password!
I already knew it of course, but the implications are frightening!

You can try out different breather apps from the market. I believe there is one from kush (dude who invented clock work recovery) that uses a client on your comp and one the phone that won't get caught by Tmo. Also if you use Google chrome on your computer get the user agent switcher add on. You can make your chrome browser look like its the android browser.

I use wifi tether from the market and it works great. You have to be rooted and select your phone model in settings to get it to work. It bypasses the tmobile hotspot.
