Service menu apk - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi folks,
There is a hidden Service menu acessible by dialing *#*#197328640#*#*, on SGS SIII (it seems to be part of towchwiz).
This secret code launches an apk but I do not know what it is, and this apk, shows a lot of information, one of these is the frequency (In MHz) that is in use by the device.
I need this information, to buy an gsm repeater/amplifier, to my house because the signal strength is very weak, and my carrier, have licences to operate in two frequencies in my region.
So, can someone discover that apk, extract it, and post it here, so I can try to install it on my Galaxy Nexus?
It could ensure that I will buy the correct repeater.
Thanks

Doesn't work on intergalactic or AeonFluxx ROMs.

As I said before, it's part of touchwiz, so it will be available only in stock sgs s3.
Has someone one stock to try to extract?

And because of this, it will not work on a ROM that does not have the TouchWiz framework. I'm pretty sure it would not work on your Galaxy Nexus, as it does not use TouchWiz UI.

I believe it is serviceModeApp.apk. I can't be 100% sure if it's it only app you would need, particularly because it is tied to TouchWiz framework. You can extract it from one of the numerous stock or a stock-based ROM, available in the Android Development section.

[DEV][MOD][JB] T-Mobile Wi-fi Calling

A while ago, I downloaded a nandroid someone posted from their T-Mobile Galaxy Note II to see if I could pick it apart for wi-fi calling, but I don't use it so I can't really test it and I lost interest. Now, I've packaged up the Wifi Calling app with all of the libs it came with and added in the build.prop from the zip. It might be a lot more than what is needed, but I don't want to have to keep uploading bits and pieces. If you think you have an idea of what you're doing and want to try it out, go for it. I don't really know much about wi-fi calling at all so unless you have some sort of logcat, I'll be of little to no use to you at all. I guess that's about it...
You can use the ics wi-fi calling package to help you out by possibly using it as a reference/using parts/etc.
FOUND HERE
And here is what I've extracted from that 1GB+ package.

Let us know what you find and good luck
If you feel you might need more files from the original nandroid just let me know.

Hm... by the looks of it, it would seem that these are only settings for Wi-Fi calling. So it would seem that you'd have to mod the settings apk to have the option for WiFi calling settings. :/ I'll look into elgins (CM10) source sometime to see if I can add it in. If I can at least get the app starting somewhere, it will be easier for everyone else to debug/fix it up. If anyone has messed with the note 2 and can confirm that WiFi calling is accessed via settings and not launcher (app) that would be helpful as well.

This is gr8 news !Hopefiully someone can get going on this ,it can benefit not just the Glacier, but other devices as well that already have a fully working JB minus wifi calling.
From what I have seen and read on my HTC One S it is built into the frame work on JB so way above what I know good luck.

I'm thinking the setting could be added in way that is similar to this:
https://github.com/SyNtheticNightma...mmit/bfac7c05daab9f6294f7419ea6173c4a1c569092
Though I don't know the exact name of the package for the wi-fi calling settings... I'd need to decompile it to find that out (unless you know another way, I'm not too familiar with apks). I could also try whipping up an icon for this if you need one.

Sorry for a late reply (haven't had the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-T889) so long...
Wifi Calling settings are located under Settings / More settings /
And includes two items: Wi-Fi Calling (this is to enable/disable with a check box), and, Wi-Fi Calling Settings (This offers Connection Preferences [Wi-Fi Preferred / Wi-Fi Only / Cellular Preferred}, and, Help)
For reference, the above menu structure/selections are based on Stock F/W 4.1.1, Build Number JRO03C.T889UVALL4
Is this still a work in progress or has it died?
it sure died.. adding wifi calling to JB has been a task for over a year..no dev has been able ot make this work...so sad.

[Q] NEW VM Samsung Galaxy S2 ROm ICS

Hi I know that virgin mobile just released the Galaxy S2 4g, but is that rom ICS 4 available to download anywhere?
I've been looking for it. Also can anyone comment on whether it would be compatible with the Sprint Epic 4g Touch?
Thanks in advance.
I'm fairly sure sprint, boost, and virgin roms are interchangeable I know sprint and boost are and am 99% sure virgin is as well

I installed a sprint rom on my vm gs2 and now mms is not working, if you find a link to the original virgin mobile rom please let me know!
They are interchangeable but you have to change the MMS setting to match their respective carriers
Plus on vm and boost roms there is no roaming option or automatic rather

I guess I'm chickenshlt compared to you, you don't mess around, jump right in the water. What's the worse that could happen, right.
I suppose someone will eventually release it or leak it.
Exactly why I'm looking for it, sorry to hear your about your predicament.
From one of the threads on this forum, To have mms working, you need a patch that is available for the cm9 and cm7 roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491189
Virgin mobile uses some type of proprietary framework for the mms.
Too bad you didn't backup your phone with AGAT Recovery.

You don't need a framework from an aosp ROM to use mms unless you're running aosp. Trying to combine aosp framework on a touchwiz ROM is brick city.
You just need to know the mmsc url for the carrier you're on and change it on your device to run any number of the various custom roms on this device.
Giving out potentially dangerous information is risky anyhow, especially when that information is wrong. It's a very bad idea, it could cause someone to lose their device.
Please be sure you know the information you're giving out is correct.

You're right I don't know what the hell I'm talking about most of the time, Agreed.
But I never said to use a aosp patch on the touchwiz rom as you mentioned. simply stating that cm9 has a patch.
That the touchwiz roms don't have.
I personally don't like CM9 or CM7. But using the gingerbread,ICS,jellybean or whatever I never was able to get my mms to work properly.
Probably cause I flashed a sprint phone to virgin mobile and it was missing some vital info from the Rom somewhere may be the 1192 file or other that holds something that the mms relies on. (only guessing don't scold me please!!!)
Anyway I basically had enough of virgin mobile/sprint spotty coverage where I live and switched to T-mobile and the T889 phone which is a million times better for me.
So Good Luck to all and best wishes.

You do it by changing the DPI. Unfortunately in JB, tablet mode kicks in at 160dpi, but that makes the text super tiny and tough to read. Phablet mode is supposed to kick in at 213dpi, but when I tried it hasn't worked. I believe DAGr8 said he's working on getting multi-dpi settings in the works so we'll have to wait.
BTW, to change dpi either download ROM toolbox and edit the build.prop, or use a root explorer and modify the build.prop manually
Gotcha thank you very much.

Wifi calling discovery

Ive been looking around and researching on how to get wifi calling on AOSP roms. I have made what I believe to be a big discovery. T-mobile now uses IMS for newer android phones, which is UMA/sip etc. I decompiled the ims-service.apk from the stock DLJA rom. I found an XML that contains the settings to use the service! You can get the IMS installer from here http://code.google.com/p/the-ims-open-source-project-for-android/
I put the settings into the app and tried connecting but it came up with ER05, invalid SIM card. I googled that and it I get leads to saying that the sim isn't authenticated for WIFI calling. I know that it is, because it works fine on stock roms. I've also attached a logcat of me attempting to connect. I've attempted to change some of the info of the strings to reflect my personal phone number but that did not change anything.

So I took part in a survey this morning sent from T-Mobile. They had some very interesting questions pertaining to Wi-Fi Calling and AOSP ROMS, specifically if I was running on a rooted device, and if I was able to get Wi-Fi calling enabled on whatever ROM I was using. They had other questions about Wi-Fi Calling and how much I would use it, etc...Apparently they're recognizing the community and are starting to ask the right questions. I like this line of thinking!

Let us not assume they are asking these questions to try and help us.. Everything T-Mobile has ever demonstrated toward the hacking community was finding ways to prevent or patch and progress made.. like they're going to assist us with tethering or wifi calling on custom ROMs.. not going to happen.. They are probably asking so they can investigate how it is working on an AOSP ROM and patch the exploit..

[Q] ROM that allows Phone Network Selection?

Does anyone know of any other ROMS that allow one to select the phone network operator? On stock, and the other ROMs I've look at, it is greyed out...

You won't find it on any of the AT&T based ROMs.
When you say "AT&T based" are you referring to touchjiz or ANY rom on the AT&T S3. Just to clarify for anyone who may be reading this.
Any ROM that runs on the AT&T GS3, is OK with me!
And I have found one so far, so its obviously not 'won't find any.'

JellyBam is not based on the AT&T stock ROM. It is based on AOKP and CyanogenMod.
I have not tested enough ROMs to be a 100% sure, but I think AT&T disables this option in its stock ROM. If so, you probably won't find any AT&T-based ROM with this capability.
But you might want to look at Canadian-based ROMs (those that as Rogers-based, Telus-based or Bell-based). The mobile network operator setting isn't grayed out on my Rogers stock ROM (but I have a Canadian phone, this may or may not have something to do with that). Examples of ROMs you may want to try that are Touchwiz-based but not based on stock AT&T:
- Dandroid
- i747z
- I747MVLDLK4_DJJOHNNYBLAZE_MODV1
- Bertiespeed
