New owner question about back cover - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I bought the samsung flip cover with the note 2, as I noticed on the white back cover there are two metal tabs. Do these have some purpose? My first instinct was inductive charging, but as I've read this is not a feature. Sorry if this has been answered, I quick search didn't turn up anything.

The two metal tabs on the inside of the back cover are the contacts for the NFC antenna.

Excellent thank you for the quick response

A civil answer for once!
It is nice to know a question that could have been answered with a little research was answered by someone without pointing out that the person do a little research in one rude form or another. Thanks for being so civil Skripka! These forums could use more folks like you!

Can you post a link to any of the ones you've seen on eBay? I don't see any at all right now... just searched for HTC Gratia.

Don't think I'd buy one of the above.. look, no antennae contacts!
The hd mini must use a different antennae design than the aria.
Here's one from a top rated seller on ebay.
It says it's for the Aria but there aren't any photos of the inside to show the antenae prongs so can't be sure.

Sorry, fail on my part.
I must have gotten this thread confused with another asking about replacing the back cover for a phone that someone recently purchased.
Im looking to replace the battery door on my aria as well. After using for little over a month it seems the oem back has become a little loose and is no longer as rigid as when first purchased. Ideally I'd like to find something carbon fiber with a high modulus of elasticity and shear modulus that is also light weight. I'm looking for functionality over aesthetics; I just want the thing to be stiff as a brick, literal, though the added benifit of a flashy weave would be nice as well. This seems like wishful thinking but if anyone knows of anything along these lines please let me know.

I'd like to find something transparent to show off that awesome ferrari yellow.
Possibility?
The guy at Icy Cell has made a mold of his Evo and
then made several colors of clear cases. My thought
is that if we could get 20-30 people who wanted a
clear back at ~$15 a pop plus shipping it might be worth
his while, know what I mean.
just google Icy Cell....
Hope I didn't break any rules in my post, haven't seen a group buy
on here before but thought this was a perfect opportunity
Of course we'd have to figure out how to make an antenna
This was posted in the General Aria section, but it doesn't specify if the cover includes the antenna or not. I have sent a question to the seller asking and will post back with results.

I posted this in another thread. but it doesnt look like the antenna is included.

Dear XXX,
ARIA Battery cover's are to include a built in Antenna and Volume Rocker.
The cover will not work without an antenna, and seems to be an issue with
many of these covers.
Does this cover include an antenna?

Dear dexmix,
not include.
thanks

Other than a few mentions of the Aria, I'm not sure what your point was with that link... the covers they are talking about are for the EVO.

Well, it does two things.
Firstly, it mentions the Aria a few times, which you already figured out. Secondly, it provides an easy-to-click link for others to see what they were talking about in the previous post about Icy Cell.
When I first read the icy cell post I was thinking "Gee, why didn't he just include the link? After all, this is the first tangible reference we've had to a clear back for the phone, or one of its siblings." It'd be pretty neat if we could convince the icy cell guy to make a clear back for it. I think it's a great idea!
Okay, I see... does anyone know if the EVO has its antenna in the back cover like the Aria does? I'm thinking we are pretty unlikely to see any aftermarket covers for the Aria since it will be too difficult for most companies to manufacture inexpensively.
HTC Aria back cover
i just received a battery cover for my aria from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-cover-H...ccessories&hash=item45f704e1ec#ht_1676wt_1048
and I can confirm that this does not have the antenna, nor the volume rockers. It also has a few protruding pieces of plastic which prevent the cover from being flush with the phone
in other words, don't bother getting one of these

(Question) NFC Transmission Distance

Really sorry if this post offends anyone. I have checked this section of the forum plus google search to answer my query without any luck.
My question is: Is there any way to extend the NFC Transmission Range? I have recently bought a battery case for my HTC One X and it adds half a centimeter to the phone which NFC can't transmit through (I understand this could be interference with battery if the battery if located behind NFC Sensor. I only need an extra centimeter (maybe even half a centimeter. I've looked in app market and can't find any NFC signal/transmission/booster app. Don't even know if possible. But just thought I would ask my good friends at XDA. If not no big loss.
Thanks
As far as I'm aware, there would be no way to extend the range other than adding your own antenna extension. This would obviously require taking apart your One X.
OK, thank you very much for your answer.

The battery case (which has metal in it) is likely acting as a shield.
NFC transmission distance is highly variable. When reading smartcards it's only a centimeter or so. When in card emulation mode it depends on the reader - most payment terminals only have 1-2cm range. However, a larger reader (such as the ones at the gates where I work) have 1-2 foot range.
I thought that it could be because of the battery but wasn't completely sure. Great piece of information though. Thanks
@Irish.iolar I'm pretty clued up with many things technology wise, but there are still millions if not billions of things I'm either totally clueless about or unsure off. And everything I have learned has been through reading, searching (self-taught) or thanks to the great people on this forum. I have tried searching the usual places for this bit of information and was surprised to find so little on it to be honest. The reason I usual start when asking such a question like the one in this topic is because I have seen countless people being flamed etc for similar questions. And I'm not talking about "billy" I no nothing about tech but got my new device and I'm gonna just ask something we deem silly. I'm talking about other guy/gals with some experience getting slammed. "But if you don't ask?"
I would have thought the top of the phone would have been a better place for the NFC chip but maybe space re-straights. Will just have to take phone out of case when I need to NFC something.
Thanks for all your help and useful comments.
Your friendly XDA member.
Phil
On the HTC One X, where are the antennas? Are they built into the battery, the phone, or the back phone cover? On my Nexus S, they're in the phone's back cover. If you buy an extended battery for the Nexus S, you have to make sure the battery cover has NFC antennas, or your range is really, really bad.
You can use nfc on the screen side of the phone

[Q] New-ish Galaxy Note 2 user.

Hello everyone!
I've been using Android now for roughly about 4 years or so, been rooting, using custom ROMs and all sorts of stuff accross multiple carriers, including Virgin Mobile, Sprint, and now T-Mobile.
Anyway, recently I got a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to replace my old Sprint HTC Evo 3D (both phone and service changes heh), because, well, it was beyond time.
Pretty good stuff, actually! Loving TouchWiz over Sense, I never liked Sense at all, ended up always replacing it with another launcher, but with TouchWiz, I'm actually rather quite enjoying it overall.
I do actually have a curious question for people here though.
The case I decided to go with for my Galaxy Note 2 is the Spigen Valentinus wallet case which has a nice button snap and 4-slots for card holding, but it seems to close REALLY tight when it's actually got 4 cards in it. My Evo 3D I had used a hip-holstered Siedio ACTIVE case which lasted a couple months short of 2 years (for the holster part, the case actually lasted the whole time otherwise). I didn't go with Siedio this time because I just couldn't picture myself having a 5.5" screened device on my hip, and a rubberized case is rather hard to get in and out of my pockets.
My screen protector I went with is what I've been using since my HTC Evo 3D, which is the Zagg brand invisibleShield, their "HD" model, but with this particular wallet case, I've noticed a couple issues. If I actually do fully fill the wallet with cards, primarily plastic credit-card sized cards, including 4 actual credit/debit cards, it's so tight that it presses hard against the screen which in turn, for the Zagg invisibleShield causes a rainbow effect to appear on the middle of the screen, where the thickest point of the wallet becomes with all the cards in.
This "heals" after having it open for about 20 minutes or so, but it's really frustrating to see it. Also, with the GN2's S-Pen, I've used it to write things down, take screenshots of sections of screen, you know, playing around mostly, but even to this day, ~2 weeks after getting the phone, i still see the indents of where I drew with the S-Pen... As in, they are not going away, ever.
I was wondering what people might actually suggest here. I've contacted Spigen about the issue and asked them what they feel the issue could be, and they actually gave me a rather technical and seemingly accurate reason why the insivibleShield does what it does, due to the type of plastic used.
So I'm thinking about the Spigen Steinhall Crystal Clear screen protector as a replacement for it.
Appreciate any suggestions or comments on this,
Psi-Jack
Question did you buy this phone new in the box. . (From t mobile).... As for the screen protector I would suggest getting a glass one

[Q] Change Color of Body?

From what people have posted here, the Verizon HTC One will only come in Silver.
I was wondering if there was a way change the body color of the phone after I purchase it? I was thinking I might be able to purchase the black case of the phone, take apart the Silver HTC One and then put it back together with the black parts, creating a black Verizon HTC One. Is this something that could work?
I would say, based on the iFixIt reparability score of 1 out of 10, no
from what i've read, the speaker grilles on the front of the phone are glued on pretty tough- so those would be hard to get off. there is a breakdown from an XDA member in either the TMobile One or the One General forums, and i believe that he said it isn't too hard to take the back off.

I will be getting a skin for the HTC from dbrands (you can also try smartskins from ebay). I've already ordered some, plus if you don't like it you can always remove it.

Back cover question?

Hi guys. I seem to be having gps issues on my note 3.
I read through many threads but I had a different color note 3 before this and remember (at least I think so) the back cover having metal contacts on it?
My current one does not have any and I wonder if this could be the culprit? It makes sense that there would be contacts for wireless charging but there's two more where I though I saw them on my previous phone.
Please someone let me know if your back cover has those metal contacts.(The thin plastic one that comes off)
Thanks guys. If not I will try to get it fixed under warranty. Gps is awful.

Unless you purchased the optional wireless charging back for your phone, there are no contacts on the back cover of the SM-900T. It is just plastic with no metal in it at all.
