Greetings,
First humble apologies to those out there who have all the knowledge in the world, and to whom this seems like a question too simple to ask; alas I have very little technical knowledge on this subject and must seek help
OK ... I have a Wildfire S which I believe is UNLOCKED and S-ON:
***UNLOCKED***
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT - 1.09.0099
MICROP - 0451
RADIO - 7.57.39.10M
RUU 2.26.401.3
I have had the phone 'debranded' so it doesn't have any of the service providers nonsense on it ... but, I'm only running one or two apps on the phone and the darn Facebook built-in app is always trying to update and keeps popping up in the background as a running apps no matter how many times I 'kill' it.
I was told that there is a way of getting access to the root of the phone to delete/kill these pieces of pre-installed junk so that I can actually run the apps I want without the phone constantly reporting that it 'can't do this or that' because of low memory ... so perhaps one of you kind souls 'could spell it out', so to speak in simple terms so that I can try and find someone local who can doe these things ??
All I want is to have my phone unbranded, running a couple of apps of my choice without any interference from Junk like the Facebook app and other stuff that's been pre-installed before I got the phone ???
Many thanks

your phone is s-on so you need to root your phone.
when you bought your phone? if its 2012 model you need to use modded recovery and all.
and as your phone is unlocked you just need to use htcsupertool to add root permissions(if your phone is before 2012)
for rooting and all of 2012 wildfire s model follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997465
good luck.
after root you can add custom roms, delete junk apps and all what you want.
Cheers

Thanks ... but I've just had a look over at the instructional and I think I'll pass. The 'shorthand' is a bit ... imprecise for those of us who don't have the hands on experience; seems to be written by those who 'know' for those who 'know'.
I need to dig out some more basic stuff I think before I dive in.
Thanks again.

Many thanks for the input ...
I did the bootloader unlock via HTCDev ... or at least I followed the online instructions with the 'token' etc and ended up with what I posted in the first/original post ... UNLOCKED with S-ON etc etc
As far as I remember, the phone was supplied as a replacement for my original phone sometime in 2012 hence the RUU 2.26.401.3 ... but as far as flashing ROMS etc is concerned I am absolutely at a total loss to understand the intricacies and requirements of just what is and what is not needed in order to get my phone to where I want it to be. If you can spell it out for me that would be great, if not, then I understand.

What I now need to know is exactly what I need to do in order to be able to get rid of the built-in Facebook piece of junk and some of the other pieces of c**p that are embedded in the phone (apps which I can't uninstall) so that I can simply run the phone as a phone along with one or two apps of my choice.

Hi There,
I wish to flash a radio update. Currently I have ENG S-OFF. I did run the One Click Radio S-OFF tool. It succeeded. It still says ENG S-OFF. not Radio S-OFF or something. Can I still flash a radio?
Thanks in advance.
greetz, Haru
Hi,
If you flashed ENG HBOOT then that will still remain. Check your CID, Power off, Power On + Volume Down, System Info. If CID has a load of 1's, your good to go. If it says HTC_...... then the easy radio S-OFF didn't work.

No problem. I take it your are Radio S-OFF?
Hi,
I wasn't aware of ENG S-OFF but I already did Radio S-OFF with this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537). Installed Visionary+ and gain permanent root (check in terminal with 'su'). I'm just wondering I can do ENG S-OFF. I like to flash Revolution ROM. I have the earliest Radio version and I like to update one of the two radio version as recommended by Revolution ROM. Please advise.
HTC Desire HD Stock ROM perm-rooted.
You can do ENG S-OFF using my tool, check link in my signature

If you read the OP you will see what they were trying to ask. Not everyone that uses these forums has English as there first language, you're question therefore could be taken offensively.
Your question is also therefore off topic but I do concede that plenty of people will find this thread looking for the same information that you ask for.
With that in mind and put simply...
Radio S-OFF is a way of switching of a security feature that allows you to flash radio's not meant for your ROM or network.
ENG S-OFF is a replacement HBOOT (ENGineering) allowing you to flash different ROM's and Kernels. And provides a means to rescue the phone from a lot of "almost bricked" states.
For more detailed answer please search as there are dozens of threads already about this.

Strange, I would recommend to read the author to get what is it all about, not the interpretator (who got it the way he liked answering the real problem, not the topic question, but read further for explanation).

As far as I can see (and I still can see even if my eyes are so tired programming...), his question covers the topic much more than the authors question or any answer but yours.
And as I promised - back to the topic and some explanations:

I think this answer is too simple to get the difference usable in any way. As far as I wasted two weeks to get the knowledge how and with what I do want do modify my phone, I still do not get this difference enough to say that I want ENG S-OFF or not. The author of this topic would answer to himself too if this would be clear enough. And no, there is no definitive description easily found by google when you use "difference eng s-off radio s-off" terms. First match links to this thread which is a mislead, and other won;t even link to XDA but still, no definitive clear answer.
It would be nice to have this answer here considering a fact that google "thinks" it should be here.
And thats why I argued with your opinion of being off-topic (and yes, I see that the guy was lil irritated but it has nothing to do with being off topic I assume).
So now, I kindly ask that anyone could write detailed description. For example which "almost bricked states" can be repaired (what actions could be done to cause those states too), what ROMs won't flash using only Radio S-OFF (since I've read that ROM Manager _will_ work without Eng S-OFF), why kernels could not be updated if ROMs can (or why I've found misleading information that ROMs can), and so on. As far as I've read, Radio S-OFF is a flag which HBOOT reads and sees that it should allow changes, and Eng S-OFF is a patch to HBOOT not to read this flag and just assume that it should allow changes so it should be basically almost the same thing, but I can imagine that at the early stages of booting it can matter. So... it's still a quite black magic for a noob as me even if I know what is happening coz I do not know the consequences not knowing the system (even if I'm a linux programmer).
So, I would be very happy to see answer here instead of complaining . Or at least a links to posts which will cover this topic really clearly, coz I could not find one.
PS. And sorry for advising while being noob, but as it seems, noobs are the group which needs such information and help, so I've put some effort to describe why it is important to answer real topic question... I hope it won't be considered as rude
Radio s-off: a security flag that allows/rejects you to write things permanently into the NAND. Also grants you the so called super-cid.
Eng hboot (eng s-off): an engineering bootloader with more funktions than the stock one (fastboot commands in our case)
If you look at the first line at the bootloader:
ace pvt ship s-on
Ship means stock hboot. If it says eng instead, you have an engineering hboot
S-on/off is only for the radio.
If you have radio s-off but shipped hboot it will say
Ace pvt ship s-off

i see, so the difference between ship and eng is that eng has more functions - thanks
Yep, and it allows you to do more. For example it allows you to flash images in fastboot (like a radio or splash).

Yup, thats what I supposed talking about "bricked states", but still... What is the difference for the user which does not harm his phone? I mean for example your kernel update tool (why doesn't it work on radio s-off? only reason is that it uses fastboot or is there other problem?)
If this all is only about a fastboot then it's obvious that Eng S-OFF is completely useless for normal user. Kernel can be upgraded in many ways - it's just a more work for tool developer (like ClockworkMod flashing for example). Am I right?
By the way, why can't "we" produce RUU or OTA or any other (if exists) updates like HTC or Google just to be downloaded and flashed - in the meaning of modded androids of course? Why not just omit S-ON like google does? Is it only a problem of cracking the place which will allow to download updates from for example different IP? We have root so... in theory it's just a matter of a good cracker job... (but this one is now not quite for this topic, i just winded up myself, sorry )
good thread guys i started one of these of my own in the sensation Q&A.
Im wondering if these eng s-off links for DHD will work for my sensation. Eng s-off seems to be the hot topic lately im trying to broaden my horizon in Customizing my device. thanks again for the info on the differences.
I downloaded the new version of Android Revolution Rom for my incredible S a few hours ago. It was also recommanded to update my radio to use with this custom ROM. It was written in help file of radio:
"Your phone must be ENG S-OFF. Radio S-OFF is also highly recommended."
If ENG S-OFF provides more functionality, why radio s-off is also highly recommanded? Or maybe radio s-off does'nt have anything to do with eng s-off. In my bootloader, it is written ship s-off and I am still confused if I can flash the radio or not. and still mixed up by the differences!
Hi guys,
I used sk8tr5955's tutorial, trying to get S-OFF for my HTC Wildfire S. In a nutshell, here's what I did
- Created a goldcard
- Put the DIAG files on the goldcard
- Turned of fastboot
- Rebooted into HBOOT
It then scans and find the zip, but it's stuck at the 'Jumping to DIAG' part. Does any of you know what im doing wrong?
Here my Wildfire info regarding HBOOT etc:
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.03.0000
MICROP-0451
RADIO-7.46.35.08

I hope you guys can tell me how to succesfully S OFF my Wildfire. I really want to try a custom rom , internal memory is full after installing like 5 apps.
~ EvertorN
S-Off can only be done using the XTC-Clip
Wish people would LEARN TO READ!
Learn to read? The title of the tutorial clearly states 'WITHOUT Xtc-clip' and some people in that thread confirmed the method works.
If you have a CDMA phone. AKA a phone without a sim card slot.
Ah sorry, I missed that. Without s off, its impossible to install a custom rom right? Im running out of space for my apps, so I wanted to install a small, aosp rom.
No custom roms, no root. Can't do much to free up space.
You can try installing one of those ROMS.
I only had 22mb used for the European rom
Hi there!
Info about my wildfire s:
Virgin mobile Canada
Marvel PVT Ship S-On RL
Hboot-0.90.0000
Microp-0451
Radio-7.53.39.03M
Android 2.3.5
Guess that's the last resort before i totally give up on that phone.
Here's my situation:
can't seem to unlock my bootloader using Htcdev method whatsoever.
When i type fastboot oem get_identifier_token, i always get:
(Bootloader) [ERR] Command error !!!
From what i have heard and guessed, it means my Hboot is not up-to-date.
(I was stock 2.3.3 btw)
Tried to flash some roms from the "Shipped Marvel roms collection" thread, and i get all sort of errors during the update, basically that the rom is older than mine.
I then resorted to that thread:
"[HBOOT] HBOOT update for EU users who's having problem with RUU":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432474
It worked...except it only updated the radio, not the Hboot... for the hboot part is only says "bypass", and then offer me to reboot the phone.
I also created a goldcard at some point.
While i can see its virtues, It did absolutely nothing for me.
Of course, i've been reading a lot of threads with problems simillar to mine, but didn't get any working solution out of it.
Here i am, and i sincerely hope someone can help me, because it's one good little phone, i like it, but we all know a device you can't root is a device you can't do much with, sadly.
Thanks a lot for the help!
You have not updated your bootloader to either 1.08.0099 or 1.09.0099 which are HTCdev unlockable.

have you tried to take the hboot from a htcdev ruu, making a pg**img.zip with it inside and an androidinfo.txt and boot to bootloader to see if it will update? i cannot see why it wont, it shouldnt affect your rom (which will be carrier related) and IS htc signed. you might just get away from with ^^ after that, if it works use simonsimons unlock tool
Thanks Gloris and Heavy_Metal_Man, i'll try both, see how it turns out and report the results.
Didn't work.
To hell with this phone, i've been wasting to much time on this, that's the first time i have so much trouble unlocking/rooting a phone.
I'm done with HTC i believe, that locked bootloader really is a cheap shot from them.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the help, guys.
Hello all. I am a complete novice at Android phones. I have a Desire HD which I bought from a friend about 18 months ago who had installed CyanogenMod on the phone. I am now moving to Giffgaff and need to unlock the phone. I got an unlock code based on the IMEI and when I enter it, despite it saying network lock successful, the sim continues as unregistered and each time I reset the phone it asks me for the Network Unlock code again. I am told it is because of Cyanogen and I need to go back to the start.
Here is all the info I have:
Android Version : 2.3.7
Kernel Version : [email protected] #1
Mod Version : CyanogenMod 7.1.0-DesireHD
Build Number: GWK74
I have tried to follow a number of guides on this site but something always goes wrong and if I am honest I don't really get what I'm doing. I downloaded an .exe from StockRoms and that looked like it was going well but then died at the end with no specific errors.
Can anybody point me in the right directions as to how to achieve this?
Thanks!

Boot in hboot and find it out....power off the device and then boot by pressing power + volume down
Sorry I could have googled how to do that before posting - my apologies!
It says this:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0027
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot
Am guessing this means I am not S-OFF?
I did see this screen before when I tried to use the Simlock feature. It says this when runs:
FAT32 init OK
OPEN MCCMNC file fail
Open CID file fail
Process done, reboot device?
Of course the process is not done.

With an unlocked bootloader you won't be able to flash a RUU. Besides you need a RUU for your device and not any RUU. If not, you will need a goldcard.

Is it possible to lock my bootloader? Is that a stupid question?
I have found the "right" RUU here:

Yes, it is possible to lock your bootloader. S-Off is no longer available; AAHK, the tool to get it, was retired this morning.
Thanks all, I sense that this could be tricky overall.
Perhaps a different approach is needed - is there another way to Sim Unlock the phone?

yes, but you gotta be patient. I am working on that..
HI TO ALL,
WE BRIEFLY EXPOSE MY PROBLEM.
IN JANUARY I BOUGHT A DHD FROM ALIBABA WEBSITE FROM CHINA,
THE PHONE TO ALL APPEARANCE LOOKED LIKE IN THE DESCRIPTION,
ONLY WHEN OPERATORS VERIFICATION HTC I DISCOVER THAT THE DHD
It's BRANDED UK, and that in ANY CASE it was UNLOCKED, so much is that I USE HERE IN ITALY with 3 CARD.
INFORMATION SOFTWARE is WRITTEN that I MOUNT a ROM 2.3.3
SENSE 2.1 SOFTWARE NUMBER 2.50.405.2
THE PROBLEM ARISES HERE.
To USE the HTC'S OFFICIAL GUIDE to UNLOCKING the BOOTLOADER I NEED the VERSION NUMBER 2.50.61.3
BUT I DO NOT UPDATE Correctly, and ACCORDING to HTC OPERATORS THIS HAPPENS because the PHONE is unlocked and HAS an UNOFFICIAL VERSION of the 2.50.405.2 SOFTWARE.
YOU UNDERSTAND THAT IS NOT OFFICIAL?
AND THE OTHER THING THAT I DID NOT UNDERSTAND IS THIS: HOW DO I AT THIS POINT TO USE THE HTC OR ANY OTHER GUIDE WHICH REQUIRES FROM ME A VERSION THAT I DON'T HAVE?
THE FACT THAT IT HAS BEEN UNLOCKED, WHICH I DO NOT KNOW HOW IT WAS DONE, I HAVE TO PERFORM CERTAIN PRELIMINARY STEPS BEFORE RUNNING A ROOT RELEASE?
Thank you.
THESE ARE THE INFORMATION MEETING IN BOOTLOADER:

HBOOT - 0.85.0024

RADIO - 26.09.04.11_M2

First, your all-caps style is difficult to read. Second, you are already S-Off; you don't need to unlock anything because you've already got something better. Just flash a recovery image from fastboot and flash a ROM from that recovery. If you don't know how to do that, look at the Ace Think Tank in my signature.
it's ok..but
I realized that the phone is already in s-off.
in another Italian forum have advised me to use advance tool kit to take root.
for you is an intuitive program? can I use so I not expert?
Another question: where can I download it?
This program does not block the phone and only serves to unlock the root?
thank
