How do you find out which app is causing a WAKE LOCK?
same question. If someone knows, please enlighten us.
Thanks
There are a few apps that are available in the market to single it down if it's not obvious like facebook
Better battery stats is one off my head, you can single it down by seeing what's using battery usually by going to settings > battery and seeing what's at the top... If it's not display then you've got a wake lock usually.
.. unless you're doing standby battery tests
sent from my googletron
The best way to check if you even have any wakelocks is to check the battery graph under settings and see if your phone's awake time is greater than it's screen time (I attached an example of my phone's graph while asleep a few nights ago)
If it's like mine you obviously have some wake locks...and to find out what services are waking up your phone, already recommended Better Battery Stats shows you what woke your phone via partial and kernel wakelocks...partial wake locks are what you're really looking for since kernel wake locks are obviously at the kernel level and if you're using a halfway decent one it shouldn't really be a problem
From here you just need to track down what services are initiating the partial wake locks (the service name is listed) and either turn it off or uninstall the associated app
EDIT: The Galaxy Nexus (for me at least) has been causing issues with wakelocks at least on 4.0.3 (see my stats attachment) but it's looking like a core OS thing and since 4.0.3 hasn't even been pushed out OTA yet it would make sense that they're ironing a few things out. Though I still am trying to troubleshoot what the services are specifically

Anyone know of a good battery saver app that actually work? Right now I'm using juice defender ultimate and it is OK and I'm sure most of the problem is the rom I'm using (simonsimons34's cm9 for marvelc, great rom) I just charged my phone to 86% and 15 minutes later its at 61%. Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated, thank you.
Sent from my Wildfire S A510c using XDA
Is deep sleep working on that ROM cause that's an awful lot of battery usage... Or were you doing something battery-expensive at the time?
I personally don't believe in battery saving apps. All they do is manage your phone's hardware (wifi,Bluetooth etc.) They are always running in the background so they use even more battery. Apps like BetterBatteryStats help you track your battery usage so you see what's using your battery the most and cut down it's usage

I agree, it's much better to do it yourself via a notification drawer power widget.
Make sure bluetooth and wifi isn't left on all day, turn off gps (gps is still on, albeit in a power saving mode, even if the icon isn't showing) when you aren't using it. Lower your screen brightness. Turn off sync and data if they're not needed, and go into aeroplane mode if you don't have any signal (because your phone will drain the battery desperately trying to find a network tower).
I don't think deep sleep is being used on this rom, and its still in beta so Bluetooth and wifi aren't working right now. I have easy task killer to stop running un needed apps and juice defender helps a little. I have had battery issues before but I seriously want to just throw it sometimes, I feel like I am always at the charger with my phone. But thank you guys for the help.

A task killer will only drain battery, trust me. Leaving these apps in RAM won't use up any more battery, but having them relaunch after you kill them will.
If deep sleep isn't working, you would benefit from setting a lower minimum CPU clock. You might suffer a slight performance loss when you unlock. Or otherwise, you can try setting different CPU settings for on and off state. I believe setCPU allows this but you'll need to check.
Helped me slightly with modpunks alpha 0 which didn't have deep sleep.
Without deep sleep, I'm afraid most of the other battery saving methods won't work much...
Sent from my Wildfire S A510e using XDA
I dont think that setcpu will help completely, the mentioned drain of battery is a huge amount..and yes the best battery saver is yourself ..maybe your time time change the battery has come up?
I had the same issue a little while ago. when I checked in the battery section of the menu I found that "media server" was running ALOT. often it was using more battery than the screen. after reading a few posts and downloading watchdog lite to see when the process was running, I heard that it could be that the SD card needed formatting (and partitioning as I use INT2EXT). So I formatted my SD, made a new partition reflashed the ROM, gapps and script and BINGO. no more "media server", no more problem.
don't know if this helps but thought id mention it, it was driving me mad.
I have done pretty extensive testing in the last few days and this is what I found.
TOUCHWIZZ USERS ONLY, uninstall and delete data for the app my uploads. It syncs your gallery with picasa and uses a load ofdata and battery. It won't break anything. turn off instant upload in Google+. Turn off smart stay and motion actions. they use about every sensor in your phone. Turn off the wake up phrase in s-voice. If its on it is always listening for that phrase. I'll keep looking for other things but I got fairly good battery life just doing those things right there.
When uninstalling an app, wipe cache and data first. This will clear any background processes that could stay after the app is gone.
Install es task manager and kill everything you don't need to run on startup to preserve boot time/battery usage. Also it will keep the processors a lot lower.
All accelerometer and other hardware functions use a significant portion of your battery. If you don't use landscape mode turn auto rotate off because it uses that precious battery life.
Weather bar in notification drop down and on your lockscreen will destroy your battery life. Weather widgets also use quite a bit of battery.
Facebook app also kills your battery because its always connected to the internet. Syncing Facebook account to your phone further wears down your battery. Any game or other app that connects to facebook will also do the same.
Look in data usage under settings. Anything on that list uses more battery because its connected to the internet.
If your not in an lte area turn lte mode off because your device will be searching for a signal it will never get.
Low signal strength kills your battery because your phone has to use more energy to hold connection to the network. If you have WiFi at home and bad cell service (or anywhere) use WiFi because its easier it is for your phone to hold good wifi signal than bad cell signal. also turn off your NFC. It uses more battery than Bluetooth does.
Get better battery stats app and look for wake locks because without deep sleep you will never get more than 12 hours battery life.
Widgets, live wallpapers, lock screen ripples and other things that move use battery also. If you don't use it then remove it to save a couple percent a day.
Remember that when charging through a computer USB port or things like that charge a lot slower than an outlet. Slow charging is better than fast charging because your battery stays cooler and that means your batteries total life will be longer.
Finally before you go in a ROM thread and start complaining about battery life, go at least three charge cycles after flashing to optimize your battery.
There are many things that cause battery drain so beware when you download that next app. It could be a battery sucker. If you don't need or don't use an app. Uninstall it because it may have background processes that are using up battery and RAM.

You can uninstall the facebook app, go to facebook on your browser, create a bookmark, and then place a widget on your homescreen for that bookmark. The site is actually faster than the app.
In my opinion maximizing battery life is all about watching out for the things on your phone that you don't care much about but are using a lot of battery life versus keeping the features you like that make your phone a smart phone.
I leave GPS on all the time, use auto brightness, have fb and fb messenger installed, use Google talk all the time, push my work email, etc. and accept the fact that this will cost me about 2% per hour when my phone is idle. I'm also using the latest ktoonsez kernel & task/kt jellybean rom and those help tremendously on battery life (1h45m since unplugging today, 51m of screen time and I'm at 89%). I have definitely been diligent about turning off the things I don't care about, like latitude, location in Facebook, rom weather, etc. and that helps quite a bit. My biggest problem has been maps running for no reason and draining lots of battery, but that sends to be a lot better with the latest rom and kernel.

ii.Mediaserver. This system process is tricky when it comes to battery. What happens is that whenever you access any sort of media on your external SD card (playing music, gallery, what have you), this process kicks off. Luckily though (but hard to catch), sometimes, this process uses more process time than it should due to corrupted contents on your external SD card. In order to catch this culprit: try clearing your battery stats (for example, restarting your device or coming off AC power), playing some music and/or checking out pictures on your SD card for a few hours. Then, check your processes. If Mediaserver is high up there in usage, you may want to consider cleaning up your SD card. Naturally, we would expect that the process is higher when media contents are in use. I can’t give you a specific guideline such as, "something is up if Mediaserver consumes over 25% battery." This is another example of where you should look up other user stats for system processes based on your specific phone and OS version. If you think your SD card may be corrupted, backup your data, format the device, and slowly, add back files and repeating your media tests. Finding a corrupted file isn’t a guarantee, but this doesn’t hurt if you suspect data corruption.[/QUOTE]

Turn off GPS when not in need. Turn off WiFi when not near wifi. All the stuff in the op. And undervolted by 100+ mv on every CPU setting. And my phone is absolutely lag free accept when I hit the unlock button it takes like half a second for the screen to come on instead of instantly (160mv undervolted on 192 which is sleep speed I set)

Is this the kind of battery life I should be expecting? Completely stock and running Juice Defender. Thanks!
It looks like you need to apply the "Cell standby" fix. That won't help your actual battery life, but it will help your reporting.
Everyone is going to be different depending on usage and signal strength.
Your battery usage isn't that bad, but when I was running ICS I would be able to get over 3 hours screen time and someimtes 20-24 hours total life.
It really varies based on your data usage. To extend battery life, then turn off unused data connections. Adjust your sync frequency, and limit push notifications. Network data coverage also impacts battery life, so in areas that have bad coverage, your phone is going to be searching for signal more often.
Use CPUspy as well and see if you phone is going to Deep Sleep when it should.

Your phone is not going into Deep Sleep as it should which is causing the higher drain you're seeing. Post what is using battery stats. Also, try to reboot. You said you were stock, so it could just be a random program that didn't close and is running in the background.
I would check your sync settings too.

You have a rogue app that is prevention your cpu from sleeping.

If your screen on time is not around 4+ hours then you most probably are not getting good battery life.
Post a screen shot from betterbattery with Processes and Since Unplugged as your parameters. Wakelocks are not the problem. You have an app constantly running that will prevent DS, so a Wakelock is irrelavent at this point.

Ya no dice on that one. Just charge it up and run it for a few hours and then pull a screenie of Processes and Since Unplugged. I wanna set what it shows for your Android System as that is your main culprit.
Some things right off that I see with this last screen shot. First, I don't think that your JuiceDefender is working properly. Usually there is a Red, Green or Blue dot in the upper right corner of the shield. This is an indicator of your radio state. Second, that Revamped Nexus S live wallpaper will munch your battery. It's cool and I own it too, but it does cause some issues with battery, not neccessarily wakelocks though. Third, that Battery Monitoring widget is eating it up too. Not sure if the icon on the top-left is for that or not, but if it is in the notification area, then it is polling and is not caching causing drainage.
Those are just what I am seeing from this last screen. I am more interested in the Processes/Since Unplugged screen shot. Charge up and go get some lunch/dinner (depending on where you are) and come back later on after and post it up.

Can an expert scheme in which is better method and why?
I removed lots of bloats apps from here and feel like my phone drain faster than live them on or disable them. Any experts?
disabling an app disables it so the system knows not to use it. uninstalling an app gets rid of it so it's not physically on the phone. If you want more space on your internal memory uninstall the apps. If your noticing more drain check your battery stats and your data states in system settings. There has to be an app or something doing it. The disabled apps shouldn't because they're disabled.

I use CPUSpy to keep an eye on if my phone is doing odd things. For example the other day my battery was draining like I was constantly using the phone. CPUSpy confirmed that to be the case ... my phone was not going in to deep sleep.
BetterBatteryStats will give you an idea of why your phone isn't sleeping properly (assuming that's your problem). In my case, it turned out to be the Google+ Camera Upload service. It was constantly holding a wakelock, so my phone wouldn't sleep. I hadn't even configured Google+ so I'm not sure WTF it was doing. I froze the app in Titanium Backup and haven't had a problem since.
Also... just IMHO - I don't remove stock apps. Freeze them in Titanium Backup. That way if something goes bad after freezing an app, you can just defrost it and resolve the issue.
I have Cpuspy check for 2 conditions. Both went to deep sleep fine. The difference is stanby time. Even phone is in deep sleep, the % battery goes down faster for Rom with all bloat s removed
